| 1 | Crustal and upper mantle structure and the deep seismogenic environment in the source regions of the Lushan earthquake and the Wenchuan earthquake显示文摘Following the M w 7.9 Wenchuan earthquake, the M w 6.6 Lushan earthquake is another devastating earthquake that struck the Longmenshan Fault Zone (LFZ) and caused severe damages. In this study, we collected continuous broadband ambient noise seismic data and earthquake event data from Chinese provincial digital seismic network, and then utilized ambient noise tomography method and receiver function method to obtain high resolution shear wave velocity structure, crustal thickness, and Poisson ratio in the earthquake source region and its surroundings. Based on the tomography images and the receiver function results, we further analyzed the deep seismogenic environment of the LFZ and its neighborhood. We reveal three main findings: (1) There is big contrast of the shear wave velocities across the LFZ. (2) Both the Lushan earthquake and the Wenchuan earthquake occurred in the regions where crustal shear wave velocity and crustal thickness change dramatically. The rupture faults and the aftershock zones are also concentrated in the areas where the lateral gradients of crustal seismic wave speed and crustal thickness change significantly, and the focal depths of the earthquakes are concentrated in the transitional depths where shear wave velocities change dramatically from laterally uniform to laterally non-uniform. (3) The Wenchuan earthquake and its aftershocks occurred in low Poisson ratio region, while the Lushan earthquake sequences are located in high Poisson ratio zone. We proposed that the effect of the dramatic lateral variation of shear wave velocity, and the gravity potential energy differences caused by the big contrast in the topography and the crustal thickness across the LFZ may constitute the seismogenic environment for the strong earthquakes in the LFZ, and the Poisson ratio difference between the rocks in the south and north segments of the Longmenshan Fault zone may explain the 5 years delay of the occurrence of the Lushan earthquake than the Wenchuan earthquake. | ZHENG Yong GE Can XIE ZuJun YANG YingJie XIONG Xiong HSU HouTze | 2013 | Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,7: | 37 |
| 2 | Additive manufacturing of metals:Microstructure evolution and multistage control显示文摘As a revolutionary industrial technology,additive manufacturing creates objects by adding materials layer by layer and hence can fabricate customized components with an unprecedented degree of freedom.For metallic materials,unique hierarchical microstructures are constructed during additive manufacturing,which endow them with numerous excellent properties.To take full advantage of additive manufacturing,an in-depth understanding of the microstructure evolution mechanism is required.To this end,this review explores the fundamental procedures of additive manufacturing,that is,the formation and binding of melt pools.A comprehensive processing map is proposed that integrates melt pool energy-and geometry-related process parameters together.Based on it,additively manufactured microstructures are developed during and after the solidification of constituent melt pool.The solidification structures are composed of primary columnar grains and fine secondary phases that form along the grain boundaries.The post-solidification structures include submicron scale dislocation cells stemming from internal residual stress and nanoscale precipitates induced by intrinsic heat treatment during cyclic heating of adjacent melt pool.Based on solidification and dislocation theories,the formation mechanisms of the multistage microstructures are thoroughly analyzed,and accordingly,multistage control methods are proposed.In addition,the underlying atomic scale structural features are briefly discussed.Furthermore,microstructure design for additive manufacturing through adjustment of process parameters and alloy composition is addressed to fulfill the great potential of the technique.This review not only builds a solid microstructural framework for metallic materials produced by additive manufacturing but also provides a promising guideline to adjust their mechanical properties. | Zhiyuan Liu Dandan Zhao Pei Wang Ming Yan Can Yang Zhangwei Chen Jian Lu Zhaoping Lu | 2022 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,5: | 27 |

| 4 | Current status of surgical treatment of rectal cancer in China显示文摘With the changing lifestyle and the acceleration of aging in the Chinese population,the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer(CRC)have risen in the last decades.On the contrary,the incidence and mortality of CRC have continued to decline in the USA since the 1980s,which is mainly attributed to early screening and standardized diagnosis and treatment.Rectal cancer accounts for the largest proportion of CRC in China,and its treatment regimens are complex.At present,surgical treatment is still the most important treatment for rectal cancer.Since the first Chinese guideline for diagnosis and treatment of CRC was issued in 2010,the fourth version has been revised in 2020.These guidelines have greatly promoted the standardization and internationalization of CRC diagnosis and treatment in China.And with the development of comprehensive treatment methods such as neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy,targeted therapy,and immunotherapy,the post-operative quality of life and prognosis of patients with rectal cancer have improved.We believe that the inflection point of the rising incidence and mortality of rectal cancer will appear in the near future in China.This article reviewed the current status and research progress on surgical therapy of rectal cancer in China. | Yong Yang Han-Yang Wang Yong-Kang Chen Jia-Jia Chen Can Song Jin Gu | 2020 | Chinese Medical Journal2020,,22: | 21 |

| 8 | Construction of recombinant attenuated Salmonella typhimurium DNA vaccine expressing H pylori ureB and IL-2显示文摘AIM: To construct a recombinant live attenuated Salm-onella typhimurium DNA vaccine encoding H pylori ureB gene and mouse IL-2 gene and to detect its immunogenicity in vitro and in vivo. METHODS: H pylori ureB and mouse IL-2 gene fragments were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and cloned into pUCmT vector. DNA sequence of the amplified ureB and IL-2 genes was assayed, then cloned into the eukaryotic expression vector pIRES through enzyme digestion and ligation reactions resulting in pIRES-ureB and pIRES-ureB-IL-2. The recombinant plasmids were used to transform competent E. coli DH5α, and the positive clones were screened by PCR and restriction enzyme digestion. Then, the recombinant pIRES-ureB and pIRES-ureB-IL-2 were used to transform LB5000 and the recombinant plasmids extracted from LB5000 were finally introduced into the final host SL7207. After that, recombinant strains were grown in vitro repeatedly. In order to detect the immunogenicity of the vaccine in vitro, pIRES-ureB and pIRES-ureB-IL-2 were transfected to COS-7 cells using LipofectamineTM2000, the immunogenicity of expressed UreB and IL-2 proteins was assayed with SDS-PAGE and Western blot. C57BL/6 mice were orally immunized with 1 × 108 recombinant attenuated Salmonella typhimurium DNA vaccine. Four weeks after vaccination, mice were challenged with 1 × 107 CFU of live H pylori SS1. Mice were sacrificed and the stomach was isolated for examination of H pylori 4 wk post-challenge. RESULTS: The 1700 base pair ureB gene fragment amplified from the genomic DNA was consistent with the sequence of H pylori ureB by sequence analysis. The amplified 510 base pair fragment was consistentwith the sequence of mouse IL-2 in gene bank. It was confirmed by PCR and restriction enzyme digestion that H pylori ureB and mouse IL-2 genes were inserted into the eukaryotic expression vector pIRES. The experiments in vitro showed that stable recombinant live attenuated Salmonella typhimurium DNA vaccine carrying ureB and IL-2 genes was successfully constructed and the specific strips of UreB and IL-2 expressed by recombinant plasmids were detected through Western blot. Study in vivo showed that the positive rate of rapid urease test of the immunized group including ureB and ureB-IL-2 was 37.5% and 12.5% respectively, and was significantly lower than that (100%) in the control group (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Recombinant attenuated Salmonella typhimurium DNA vaccine expressing UreB protein and IL-2 protein with immunogenicity can be constructed. | 11 | Multiphase Flow and Wear in the Cutting Head of Ultra-high Pressure Abrasive Water Jet显示文摘Abrasive water jet cutting technology is widely applied in the materials processing today and attracts great attention from scholars,but many phenomena concerned are not well understood,especially in the internal jet flow of the cutting head at the condition of ultra-high pressure.The multiphase flow in the cutting head is numerically simulated to study the abrasive motion mechanism and wear inside the cutting head at the pressure beyond 300 MPa.Visible predictions of the particles trajectories and wear rate in the cutting head are presented.The influences of the abrasive physical properties,size of the jewel orifice and the operating pressure on the trajectories are discussed.Based on the simulation,a wear experiment is carried out under the corresponding pressures.The simulation and experimental results show that the flow in the mixing chamber is composed of the jet core zone and the disturbance zone,both affect the particles trajectories.The mixing efficiency drops with the increase of the abrasive granularity.The abrasive density determines the response of particles to the effects of different flow zones,the abrasive with medium density gives the best general performance.Increasing the operating pressure or using the jewel with a smaller orifice improves the coherency of particles trajectories but increases the wear rate of the jewel holder at the same time.Walls of the jewel holder,the entrance of the mixing chamber and the convergence part of the mixing tube are subject to wear out.The computational and experimental results give a qualitative consistency which proves that this numerical method can provide a reliable and visible cognition of the flow characteristics of ultra-high pressure abrasive water jet.The investigation is benefit for improving the machining properties of water jet cutting systems and the optimization design of the cutting head. | YANG Minguan WANG Yuli KANG Can YU Feng | 2009 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2009,22,5: | 8 |
| 12 | Undifferentiated embryonal sarcoma of the liver:Clinical characteristics and outcomes显示文摘BACKGROUND Undifferentiated embryonal sarcoma of the liver(UESL)is a rare liver malignancy originating from primary mesenchymal tissue.The clinical manifestations,laboratory tests,and imaging examinations of the disease lack specificity and the preoperative misdiagnosis rate is high.The overall prognosis is poor and survival rate is low.AIM To investigate the diagnosis,treatment,and prognosis of UESL.METHODS We performed a retrospective,single-center cohort study in Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University,which is a central hospital in northeast China.From 2005 to 2017,we recruited 14 patients with pathologically confirmed UESL.We analyzed the clinical manifestations,laboratory tests,imaging examinations,pathological examinations,therapy,and prognosis of these patients.RESULTS There were nine males and five females aged 2-60 years old included in the study.The major initial symptoms were abdominal pain(71.43%)and fever(57.14%).Preoperative laboratory tests revealed that seven patients had increased leukocyte levels,four showed a decrease in hemoglobin levels,seven patients had increased glutamyl transpeptidase levels,nine had increased lactate dehydrogenase levels,and three showed an increase in carbohydrate antigen 199.There was no difference in the rate of misdiagnosis in preoperative imaging examinations of UESL between adults and children(6/6 vs 5/8,P=0.091).The survival rate after complete resection was 6/10,while that after incomplete resection was 0/4(P=0.040),suggesting that complete resection is important to improve survival rate.In total,five out of the eight children achieved survival.During the follow-up,the maximum survival time was shown to be 11 years and minimum survival time was 6 mo.Six adult patients relapsed late after surgery and all of them died.CONCLUSION Preoperative imaging examination for UESL has a high misdiagnosis rate.Multidisciplinary collaboration can improve the diagnostic accuracy of UESL.Complete surgical resection is the first choice for treatment of UESL. | Chong Zhang Chang-Jun Jia Can Xu Qiu-Ju Sheng Xiao-Guang Dou Yang Ding | 2020 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2020,8,20: | 8 |

| 14 | L-Carnitine protects against tacrolimus-induced renal injury by attenuating programmed cell death via PI3K/AKT/PTEN signaling显示文摘Reducing immunosuppressant-related complications using conventional drugs is an efficient therapeutic strategy.L-carnitine(LC)has been shown to protect against various types of renal injury.In this study,we investigated the renoprotective effects of LC in a rat model of chronic tacrolimus(TAC)nephropathy.SD rats were injected with TAC(1.5 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1),sc)for 4 weeks.Renoprotective effects of LC were assessed in terms of renal function,histopathology,oxidative stress,expression of inflammatory and fibrotic cytokines,programmed cell death(pyroptosis,apoptosis,and autophagy),mitochondrial function,and PI3K/AKT/PTEN signaling.Chronic TAC nephropathy was characterized by severe renal dysfunction and typical histological features of chronic nephropathy.At a molecular level,TAC markedly increased the expression of inflammatory and fibrotic cytokines in the kidney,induced oxidative stress,and led to mitochondrial dysfunction and programmed cell death through activation of PI3K/AKT and inhibition of PTEN.Coadministration of LC(200 mg·kg^(−1)·d^(−1),ip)caused a prominent improvement in renal function and ameliorated histological changes of kidneys in TAC-treated rats.Furthermore,LC exerted anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects,prevented mitochondrial dysfunction,and modulated the expression of a series of apoptosis-and autophagy-controlling genes to promote cell survival.Human kidney proximal tubular epithelial cells(HK-2 cells)were treated with TAC(50μg/mL)in vitro,which induced production of intracellular reactive oxygen species and expression of an array of genes controlling programmed cell death(pyroptosis,apoptosis,and autophagy)through interfering with PI3K/AKT/PTEN signaling.The harmful responses of HK-2 cells to TAC were significantly attenuated by cotreatment with LC and the PI3K inhibitor LY294002(25μM).In conclusion,LC treatment protects against chronic TAC nephropathy through interfering the PI3K/AKT/PTEN signaling. | Hai-lan Zheng Hai-yue Zhang Chun-lian Zhu Hui-ying Li Sheng Cui Jian Jin Shang-guo Piao Yu-ji Jiang Mei-ying Xuan Ji-zhe Jin Ying-shun Jin Jung-pyo Lee Byung-ha Chung Bum-soon Choi Chul-woo Yang Can Li | 2021 | Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2021,42,1: | 7 |

| 16 | Analysis of abnormal texture formation and strengthening mechanism in an extruded Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloy显示文摘A Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr magnesium alloy with different initial states was extruded under different extrusion parameters.The effect of solution treatment and extrusion parameters on the microstructure,texture and mechanical properties were analyzed in detail,and the abnormal texture formation and strengthening mechanism was revealed.When extruded at low temperature and small extrusion ratio,the bimodal microstructure consisting of fine dynamically recrystallized grains and coarse deformed grains occurred both in the as-cast alloy and solution-treated alloy.When the extrusion temperature and extrusion ratio were increased,the amount and size of dynamically recrystallized grains increased and the grain size of the solution-treated alloy showed higher growth rate.Furthermore,an abnormal texture with<0001>parallel with extrusion direction developed due to the occurrence of non-basal slip and continuous dynamic recrystallization.This could be enhanced by solution treatment,high temperature,and large extrusion ratio.Both the as-cast alloy and solution-treated alloy exhibited the highest tensile strength after extrusion at 300℃with an extrusion ratio of 9.Grain refinement was the main strengthening mechanism utilized in both the as-cast alloy and the solution-treated alloy.Work hardening played an important role in the sample extruded at low temperature and small extrusion ratio,with the highest contribution of about 33 MPa after extrusion at 300℃with an extrusion ratio of 9.Texture strengthening contributed more in the sample extruded at high temperature and large extrusion ratio,but no more than 24.1 MPa.Solution strengthening was another strengthening mechanism in the extruded as-cast alloy,especially at high temperature and large extrusion ratio(no more than 9 MPa). | Xueze Jin Wenchen Xu Zhongze Yang Can Yuan Debin Shan BugangTeng Bo Cheng Jin | 2020 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,42,10: | 7 |
| 17 | MicroRNA-132 in the Adult Dentate Gyrus is Involved in Opioid Addiction Via Modifying the Differentiation of Neural Stem Cells显示文摘MicroRNA-132(miR-132), a small RNA that regulates gene expression, is known to promote neurogenesis in the embryonic nervous system and adult brain.Although exposure to psychoactive substances can increase miR-132 expression in cultured neural stem cells(NSCs)and the adult brain of rodents, little is known about its role in opioid addiction. So, we set out to determine the effect of miR-132 on differentiation of the NSCs and whether this effect is involved in opioid addiction using the rat morphine self-administration(MSA) model. We found that miR-132 overexpression enhanced the differentiation of NSCs in vivo and in vitro. Similarly, speci?c overexpression of miR-132 in NSCs of the adult hippocampal dentate gyrus(DG) during the acquisition stage of MSA potentiated morphine-seeking behavior. | 18 | Nondestructive 3D Image Analysis Pipeline to Extract Rice Grain Traits Using X-Ray Computed Tomography显示文摘The traits of rice panicles play important roles in yield assessment,variety classification,rice breeding,and cultivation management.Most traditional grain phenotyping methods require threshing and thus are time-consuming and labor-intensive;moreover,these methods cannot obtain 3D grain traits.In this work,based on X-ray computed tomography,we proposed an image analysis method to extract twenty-two 3D grain traits.After 104 samples were tested,the R^(2) values between the extracted and manual measurements of the grain number and grain length were 0.980 and 0.960,respectively.We also found a high correlation between the total grain volume and weight.In addition,the extracted 3D grain traits were used to classify the rice varieties,and the support vector machine classifier had a higher recognition accuracy than the stepwise discriminant analysis and random forest classifiers.In conclusion,we developed a 3D image analysis pipeline to extract rice grain traits using X-ray computed tomography that can provide more 3D grain information and could benefit future research on rice functional genomics and rice breeding. | Weijuan Hu Can Zhang Yuqiang Jiang Chenglong Huang Qian Liu Lizhong Xiong Wanneng Yang Fan Chen | 2020 | Plant Phenomics2020,2,1: | 6 |
| 19 | Carbon Isotope Gradient of the Ediacaran Cap Carbonate in the Shennongjia Area and Its Implications for Ocean Stratification and Palaeogeography显示文摘The geochemistry and paleogeography of the Doushantuo succession in the Shennongjia area have been insufficiently studied. Here, we report on the carbon and oxygen isotope compositions of Ediacaran Doushantuo cap carbonates from four sections(Longxi, Muyu, Yazikou and Songluo) in the Shennongjia area. A large C-isotopic gradient(~5‰) between the Longxi and Songluo sections, here identified for the first time, is inferred to have been dynamically maintained by photosynthesis in surface waters and anaerobic oxidation of dissolved organic carbon(DOC) in deep waters. Spatial variation in C-isotope chemostratigraphy among the four sections was related to Marinoan post-glacial sea-level elevation changes. At Longxi, a positive δ^(13)C_(carb) shift below the horizon containing tepee-like structure resulted from intense photosynthesis during early regression. A negative δ^(13)C_(carb) shift within the tepee-horizon was triggered by sulfate reduction and freshwater mixing with ^(13)C-depleted dissolved inorganic carbon(DIC) during late regression. A positive δ^(13)C_(carb) excursion in the uppermost part of the cap carbonate was related to enhance primary productivity and organic matter burial during early transgression. At Muyu, the carbon isotopic variation tendency, which is similar to that at Longxi, may have been mildly influenced by the surface water environment. At Songluo, the positive δ^(13)C_(carb) excursion, up to-4‰ in the lower part of the cap carbonate, was probably associated with methanogenesis in deep waters during late transgression to early regression and subsequently disappeared due to decomposition of methane hydrate during late regression. At Yazikou, the consistently stable δ^(13)C_(carb) values around-4‰ indicate that the cap carbonate may have deposited at intermediate water depths.
