| 1 | Paracrine and endocrine actions of bone——the functions of secretory proteins from osteoblasts, osteocytes, and osteoclasts显示文摘The skeleton is a dynamic organ that is constantly remodeled. Proteins secreted from bone cells, namely osteoblasts, osteocytes,and osteoclasts exert regulation on osteoblastogenesis, osteclastogenesis, and angiogenesis in a paracrine manner. Osteoblasts secrete a range of different molecules including RANKL/OPG, M-CSF, SEMA3A, WNT5A, and WNT16 that regulate osteoclastogenesis. Osteoblasts also produce VEGFA that stimulates osteoblastogenesis and angiogenesis. Osteocytes produce sclerostin(SOST) that inhibits osteoblast differentiation and promotes osteoclast differentiation. Osteoclasts secrete factors including BMP6, CTHRC1, EFNB2, S1P, WNT10B, SEMA4D, and CT-1 that act on osteoblasts and osteocytes, and thereby influencea A osteogenesis. Osteoclast precursors produce the angiogenic factor PDGF-BB to promote the formation of Type H vessels, which then stimulate osteoblastogenesis. Besides, the evidences over the past decades show that at least three hormones or 'osteokines'from bone cells have endocrine functions. FGF23 is produced by osteoblasts and osteocytes and can regulate phosphate metabolism. Osteocalcin(OCN) secreted by osteoblasts regulates systemic glucose and energy metabolism, reproduction, and cognition. | 3 | Formaldehyde up-regulates TRPV1 through MAPK and PI3K signaling pathways in a rat model of bone cancer pain显示文摘Objective Our previous study showed that tumor tissue-derived formaldehyde at low concentrations plays an important role in bone cancer pain through activating transient receptor potential vanilloid subfamily member 1 (TRPV1). The present study further explored whether this tumor tissue-derived endogenous formaldehyde regulates TRPV1 expression in a rat model of bone cancer pain, and if so, what the possible signal pathways are during the development of this type of pain. Methods A rat model of bone cancer pain was established by injecting living MRMT-1 tumor cells into the tibia. The formaldehyde levels were determined by high performance liquid chromatography, and the expression of TRPV1 was examined with Western blot and RT-PCR. In primary cultured dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons, the expression of TRPV1 was assessed after treatment with 100 μmol/L formaldehyde with or without pre-addition of PD98059 [an inhibitor for extracellular signal-regulated kinase], SB203580 (a p38 inhibitor), SP600125 [an inhibitor for c-Jun N-terminal kinase], BIM [a protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor] or LY294002 [a phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitor]. Results In the rat model of bone cancer pain, formaldehyde concentration increased in blood plasma, bone marrow and the spinal cord. TRPV1 protein expression was also increased in the DRG. In primary cultured DRG neurons, 100 μmol/L formaldehyde significantly increased the TRPV1 expression level. Pre-incubation with PD98059, SB203580, SP600125 or LY294002, but not BIM, inhibited the formaldehyde-induced increase of TRPV1 expression. Conclusion Formaldehyde at a very low concentration up-regulates TRPV1 expression through mitogen-activated protein kinase and PI3K, but not PKC, signaling pathways. | 4 | Minimally invasive surgery alone compared with intensity-modulated radiotherapy for primary stage I nasopharyngeal carcinoma显示文摘Background:The National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines recommend intensity-modulated radiotherapy(IMRT)as the primary curative treatment for newly diagnosed nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC),but the radiation-related complications and relatively high medical costs remain a consequential burden for the patients.Endoscopic nasopharyngectomy(ENPG)was successfully applied in recurrent NPC with radiation free and relatively low medical costs.In this study,we examined whether ENPG could be an effective treatment for localized stage I NPC.Methods:Ten newly diagnosed localized stage I NPC patients voluntarily received ENPG alone from June 2007 to September 2017 in Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center.Simultaneously,the data of 329 stage I NPC patients treated with IMRT were collected and used as a reference cohort.The survival outcomes,quality of life(QOL),and medical costs between two groups were compared.Results:After a median follow-up of 59.0 months(95%CI 53.4-64.6),no death,locoregional recurrence,or distant metastasis was observed in the 10 patients treated with ENPG.The 5-year overall survival,local relapse-free survival,regional relapse-free survival,and distant metastasis-free survival among the ENPG-treated patients was similar to that among the IMRT-treated patients(100%vs.99.1%,100%vs.97.7%,100%vs.99.0%,100%vs.97.4%,respectively,P>0.05).In addition,compared with IMRT,ENPG was associated with decreased total medical costs($4090.42±1502.65 vs.$12620.88±4242.65,P<0.001)and improved QOL scores including dry mouth(3.3±10.5 vs.34.4±25.8,P<0.001)and sticky saliva(3.3±10.5 vs.32.6±23.3,P<0.001).Conclusions:ENPG alone was associated with promising long-term survival outcomes,low medical costs,and satisfactory QOL and might therefore be an alternative strategy for treating newly diagnosed localized stage I NPC patients who refused radiotherapy.However,the application of ENPG should be prudent,and prospective clinical tri-als were needed to further verify the results. | You-Ping Liu Xing Lv Xiong Zou Yi-Jun Hua Rui You Qi Yang Le Xia Shao-Yan Guo Wen Hu Meng-Xia Zhang Si-Yuan Chen Mei Lin Yu-Long Xie Li-Zhi Liu Rui Sun Pei-Yu Huang Wei Fan Xiang Guo Ming-Huang Hong Ming-Yuan Chen | 2019 | Cancer Communications2019,39,1: | 17 |

| 12 | Tunable and multichannel terahertz perfect absorber due to Tamm surface plasmons with graphene显示文摘In this paper, we have shown that perfect absorption at terahertz frequencies can be achieved by using a composite structure where graphene is coated on one-dimensional photonic crystal(1 DPC) separated by a dielectric. Due to the excitation of optical Tamm states(OTSs) at the interface between the graphene and 1 DPC, a strong absorption phenomenon occurs induced by the coupling of the incident light and OTSs. Although the perfect absorption produced by a metal–distributed Bragg reflector structure has been researched extensively, it is generally at a fixed frequency and not tunable. Here, we show that the perfect absorption at terahertz frequency not only can be tuned to different frequencies but also exhibits a high absorption over a wide angle range. | 14 | Study of high-precision earth sensor with triple-FOV显示文摘Earth sensors are widely used in spacecraft for attitude determination. They need to have a very large field of view(FOV)( > 120°) and relatively low accuracy while being used in the aircrafts around orbit. A triple-FOV infrared earth sensor is proposed in this paper. It uses three pieces of standard infrared detectors with a wavelength range of 14;16μm,to sense the horizontal circle by detecting the infrared light emitted from the earth. From which,the geocentric vector can be obtained. A mathematic model is established and a validation model is set up to provide input parameters for the mathematic model. The simulation results of the two models show that the output of the mathematic model coincides with the known parameters. Based on the above analysis,a prototype has been built and tested. | 17 | Structure,Orientation and Finite Element Analysis of the Tail Club of Mamenchisaurus hochuanensis显示文摘The structure and orientation of the posterior extremity (tail club) of the caudal vertebrae of Mamenchisaurus hochuanensis Young and Chao, 1972 from the Upper Jurassic Shangshaximiao Formation has been analyzed to determine the tail club function using Finite Element Analysis. Of the four caudal vertebrae composing the tail club, the second largest (C'1') was probably the most proximal, and is fixed with the preceding sequence of the caudal vertebrae, whereas the smallest (C'4') is free and forms the termination of the tail club. Our analysis also suggests that the tail club is more efficient in lateral swinging rather than up-and-down motion, and that the best region for the tail club to impact is at the spine of the largest of the four caudals (C'2'), with a maximum load for impact at about 450 N. | 20 | Lipid-associated membrane proteins of Mycoplasma penetrans induce production of proinflammatory cytokines in human monocytic cells显示文摘The aim of this study is to explore potential pathogenicity of Mycoplasma penetrans, and to investigate whether M.penetrans lipid-associated membrane proteins (LAMPs) could induce human monocytic cell line (THP-1) to produce some proinflammatory cytokines in vitro, including interleukin-1β(IL-1β) , tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) , and IL-8. THP-1 was stimulated with different concentrations of M .penetrans LAMPs and at different time to analyze the production of human IL-1β, TNF-αand IL-8. The protein levels of human IL-1β, TNF-αand IL-8 were measured by enzyme-linked immunoadsorbent assay (ELISA) and the mRNA levels of these proinflamrnatory cytokines were detected by reverse transcriptase -PCR (RT-PCR). It was demonstrated in the present study that the production of IL-1β, TNF-αand IL-8 increased in dose- and time-dependent manner after stimulation with M. penetrans LAMPs in THP-1 cells. M.penetrans LAMPs also induced the expression of IL-1β, TNF-αand IL-8 mRNA. The production of IL-1β, TNF-αand IL-8 and the expression of mRNA were down-regulated by pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC).
