| 1 | Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. | 3 | Effects of land use change on the spatiotemporal variability of soil organic carbon in an urban-rural ecotone of Beijing,China显示文摘Understanding the effects of land use changes on the spatiotemporal variation of soil organic carbon(SOC)can provide guidance for low carbon and sustainable agriculture.In this paper,based on the large-scale datasets of soil surveys in 1982 and 2009 for Pinggu District—an urban-rural ecotone of Beijing,China,the effects of land use and land use changes on both temporal variation and spatial variation of SOC were analyzed.Results showed that from 1982 to 2009in Pinggu District,the following land use change mainly occurred:Grain cropland converted to orchard or vegetable land,and grassland converted to forestland.The SOC content decreased in region where the land use type changed to grain cropland(e.g.,vegetable land to grain cropland decreased by 0.7 g kg^(-1);orchard to grain cropland decreased by 0.2 g kg^(-1)).In contrast,the SOC content increased in region where the land use type changed to either orchard(excluding forestland)or forestland(e.g.,grain cropland to orchard and forestland increased by 2.7 and 2.4 g kg^(-1),respectively;grassland to orchard and forestland increased by 4.8 and 4.9 g kg^(-1),respectively).The organic carbon accumulation capacity per unit mass of the soil increased in the following order:grain cropland soikvegetable land/grassland soikorchard soikforestland soil.Therefore,to both secure supply of agricultural products and develop low carbon agriculture in a modern city,orchard has proven to be a good choice for land using. | YE Hui-chun HUANG Yuan-fang CHEN Peng-fei HUANG Wen-jiang ZHANG Shi-wen HUANGShan-yu HOU Sen | 2016 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2016,15,4: | 4 |
| 4 | Late Mesozoic Tectonic Evolution of Southwestern Fujian Province,South China:Constraints from Magnetic Fabric,Zircon U-Pb Geochronology and Structural Deformation显示文摘A combined study of magnetic fabrics, zircon U-Pb geochronology and structural deformation was carried out for Late Paleozoic sedimentary and Mesozoic magmatic rocks in the southwestern Fujian rift basin, South China, aiming at deciphering the tectonic evolution during Late Mesozoic. Field observations showed that the Late Mesozoic structure deformations in southwestern Fujian were categorized into four phases: NW-SE compression, ENE-WSW extension, NNE-SSW compression and NNW-SSE extension, sequentially. Zircons picked out from Juzhou granite and WNW-trending diabase dykes showed complete crystal shapes and clear oscillatory zonings on their edges, and the U-Pb dating yielded ages of 132 and 141 Ma, respectively. The susceptibility ellipsoid magnitude parameters of the Juzhou granite are characterized by flaser type strain ellipsoid, with pole density center of K3 falling into the first and the third quadrants, these features revealed that the Juzhou granite formed in ENE-WSW compressional stress field, indicating the early stage of Early Cretaceous extrusion in southwestern Fujian. The late stage of Early Cretaceous NNE-SSW extension was limited by the widespread WNW-trending diabase dykes, which were usually regarded as important indications for a regional extensional setting. | 5 | Improved production of docosahexaenoic acid in batch fermentation by newly-isolated strains of Schizochytrium sp.and Thraustochytriidae sp.through bioprocess optimization显示文摘Thraustochytrids,rich in docosahexaenoic acid(DHA,C22:6u3),represent a potential source of dietary fatty acids.Yet,the effect of culture conditions on growth and fatty acid composition vary widely among different thraustochytrid strains.Two different thraustochytrid strains,Schizochytrium sp.PKU#Mn4 and Thraustochytriidae sp.PKU#Mn16 were studied for their growth and DHA production characteristics under various culture conditions.Although they exhibited similar fatty acid profiles,PKU#Mn4 seemed a good candidate for industrial DHA fermentation while PKU#Mn16 displayed growth tolerance to a wide range of process conditions.Relative DHA content of 48.5%and 49.2%(relative to total fatty acids),respectively,were achieved on glycerol under their optimal flask culture conditions.Maximum DHA yield(Yp/x)of 21.0%and 18.9%and productivity of 27.6 mg/L-h and 31.9 mg/L-h were obtained,respectively,in 5-L bioreactor fermentation operated with optimal conditions and dual oxygen control strategy.A 3.4-and 2.8-fold improvement of DHA production(g/L),respectively,was achieved in this study.Overall,our study provides the potential of two thraustochytrid strains and their culture conditions for efficient production of DHA-rich oil. | Qiuzhen Wang Huike Ye Biswarup Sen Yunxuan Xie Yaodong He Sunghoon Park Guangyi Wang | 2018 | Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2018,3,2: | 4 |
| 6 | NLRP3 Deficiency Attenuates Secondary Degeneration of Visual Cortical Neurons Following Optic Nerve Injury显示文摘In the visual pathway, optic nerve(ON) injury may cause secondary degeneration of neurons in distal regions, such as the visual cortex. However, the role of the neuroinflammatory response in regulating secondary impairment in the visual cortex after ON injury remains unclear. The NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3(NLRP3) is an important regulator of neuroinflammation. In this study, we established a mouse model of unilateral ON crush(ONC) and showed that the expression of NLRP3 was significantly increased in the primary visual cortex(V1) as a response to ONC and that the NLRP3 inflammasome was activated in the contralateral V1 1 days–14 days after ONC. Ablation of the NLRP3 gene significantly decreased the trans-neuronal degeneration within 14 days. Visual electrophysiological function was improved in NLRP3-/- mice. | 7 | Real-time recognition of human lower-limb locomotion based on exponential coordinates of relative rotations显示文摘This paper proposes a data-driven method using a parametric representation of relative rotations to classify human lower-limb locomotion, which is designed for wearable robots. Three Inertial measurement units(IMUs) are mounted on the subject's waist,left knee, and right knee, respectively. Features for classification comprise relative rotations, angular velocities, and waist acceleration. Those relative rotations are represented by the exponential coordinates. The rotation matrices are normalized by Karcher mean and then the Support Vector Machine(SVM) method is used to train the data. Experiments are conducted with a time-window size of less than 40 ms. Three SVM classifiers telling 3, 5 and 6 rough lower-limb locomotion types respectively are trained, and the average accuracies are all over 98%.
