2Highly active zigzag-like Pt-Zn alloy nanowires with high-index facets for alcohol electrooxidation显示文摘The development of highly efficient Pt-based alloy nanocatalysts is important but remains challenging for fuel cells commercialization.Here,a new class of zigzag-like platinum-zinc (Pt-Zn) alloy nanowires (NWs) with rough surface and controllable composition is reported.The merits of anisotropic one-dimensional nanostructure,stable high-index facets and coordinatively unsaturated Pt sites endow the composition-optimal Pt94Zn6 NWs with a mass activity of 7.2 and 6.2 times higher than that of commercial Pt black catalysts toward methanol/ethanol oxidation,respectively.Alloying-induced d-band electron modulation and lattice strain effects weaken the adsorption strength of poisoning species,which originally enhances the catalytic activity of Pt-Zn NWs.This study provides a new perspective of Pt-Zn electrocatalysts with intrinsic mechanism for enhanced catalytic performance.Yanchao Xu Xiaoqiang Cui Shuting Wei Qinghua Zhang Lin Gu Fanqi Meng Jinchang Fan Weitao Zheng 2019Nano Research2019,12,5:7
3Microcavity top-emission perovskite light-emitting diodes显示文摘Light-emitting diodes(LEDs)based on perovskites show great potential in lighting and display applications.However,although perovskite films with high photoluminescence quantum efficiencies are commonly achieved,the efficiencies of perovskite LEDs are largely limited by the low light out-coupling efficiency.Here,we show that high-efficiency perovskite LEDs with a high external quantum efficiency of 20.2% and an ultrahigh radiant exitance up to 114.9mWcm^(−2) can be achieved by employing the microcavity effect to enhance light extraction.The enhanced microcavity effect and light outcoupling efficiency are confirmed by the study of angle-dependent emission profiles.Our results show that both the optical and electrical properties of the device need to be optimized to achieve high-performance perovskite LEDs.Yanfeng Miao Lu Cheng Wei Zou Lianghui Gu Ju Zhang Qiang Guo Qiming Peng Mengmeng Xu Yarong He Shuting Zhang Yu Cao Renzhi Li Nana Wang Wei Huang Jianpu Wang 2020Light(Science & Applications)2020,9,1:4

6Isogeometric topology optimization based on energy penalization for symmetric structure显示文摘We present an energy penalization method for isogeometric topology optimization using moving morphable components(ITO–MMC),propose an ITO–MMC with an additional bilateral or periodic symmetric constraint for symmetric structures,and then extend the proposed energy penalization method to an ITO–MMC with a symmetric constraint.The energy penalization method can solve the problems of numerical instability and convergence for the ITO–MMC and the ITO–MMC subjected to the structural symmetric constraint with asymmetric loads.Topology optimization problems of asymmetric,bilateral symmetric,and periodic symmetric structures are discussed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed energy penalization approach.Compared with the conventional ITO–MMC,the energy penalization method for the ITO–MMC can improve the convergence rate from 18.6%to 44.5%for the optimization of the asymmetric structure.For the ITO–MMC under a bilateral symmetric constraint,the proposed method can reduce the objective value by 5.6%and obtain a final optimized topology that has a clear boundary with decreased iterations.For the ITO–MMC under a periodic symmetric constraint,the proposed energy penalization method can dramatically reduce the number of iterations and obtain a speedup of more than 2.Xianda XIE Shuting WANG Ming YE Zhaohui XIA Wei ZHAO Ning JIANG Manman XU 2020Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering2020,15,1:3
7Small interfering RNA delivery to the neurons near the amyloid plaques for improved treatment of Alzheimer’s disease显示文摘Gene therapy represents a promising treatment for the Alzheimer’s disease(AD). However,gene delivery specific to brain lesions through systemic administration remains big challenge. In our previous work, we have developed an siRNA nanocomplex able to be specifically delivered to the amyloid plaques through surface modification with both CGN peptide for the blood–brain barrier(BBB)penetration and QSH peptide for β-amyloid binding. But, whether the as-designed nanocomplex could indeed improve the gene accumulation in the impaired neuron cells and ameliorate AD-associated symptoms remains further study. Herein, we prepared the nanocomplexes with an siRNA against β-site amyloid precursor protein-cleaving enzyme 1(BACE1), the rate-limiting enzyme of Aβ production, as the therapeutic siRNA of AD. The nanocomplexes exhibited high distribution in the Aβ deposits-enriched hippocampus, especially in the neurons near the amyloid plaques after intravenous administration. In APP/PS1 transgenic mice, the nanocomplexes down-regulated BACE1 in both mRNA and protein levels,as well as Aβ and amyloid plaques to the level of wild-type mice. Moreover, the nanocomplexes significantly increased the level of synaptophysin and rescued memory loss of the AD transgenic mice without hematological or histological toxicity. 9Nlrc3-like is required for microglia maintenance in zebrafish显示文摘Microglia are tissue-resident macrophages residing in the central nervous system (CNS) and play critical roles in removing cellular debris and infectious agents as well as regulating neurogenesis and neuronal activities. Yet, the molecular basis underlying the establishment of microglia pool and the maintenance of their homeostasis in the CNS remain largely undefined. Here we report the identification and characterization of a mutant zebrafish, which harbors a point mutation in the nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD) like receptor gene nlrc3-like, resulting in the loss of microglia in a temperature sensitive manner. Temperature shift assay reveals that the late onset of nlrc3-like deficiency leads to excessive microglia cell death. Further analysis shows that the excessive microglia death in nlrc3-like deficient mutants is attributed, at least in part, to aberrant activation of canonical inflammasome pathway. 10Manipulations of micro/nanoparticles using gigahertz acoustic streaming tweezers显示文摘Contactless acoustic manipulation of micro/nanoscale particles has attracted considerable attention owing to its near independence of the physical and chemical properties of the targets,making it universally applicable to almost all biological systems.Thin-film bulk acoustic wave(BAW)resonators operating at gigahertz(GHz)frequencies have been demonstrated to generate localized high-speed microvortices through acoustic streaming effects.Benefitting from the strong drag forces of the high-speed vortices,BAW-enabled GHz acoustic streaming tweezers(AST)have been applied to the trapping and enrichment of particles ranging in size from micrometers to less than 100 nm.However,the behavior of particles in such 3D microvortex systems is still largely unknown.In this work,the particle behavior(trapping,enrichment,and separation)in GHz AST is studied by theoretical analyses,3D simulations,and microparticle tracking experiments.It is found that the particle motion in the vortices is determined mainly by the balance between the acoustic streaming drag force and the acoustic radiation force.This work can provide basic design principles for AST-based lab-on-a-chip systems for a variety of applications.Hang Wu Zifan Tang Rui You Shuting Pan Wenpeng Liu Hongxiang Zhang Tiechuan Li Yang Yang Chongling Sun Wei Pang Xuexin Duan 2022Nanotechnology and Precision Engineering2022,5,2:1

12Development of pretreatment protocol for DNA extraction from biofilm attached to biologic activated carbon(BAC)granules显示文摘The biologic activated carbon(BAC)process is widely used in drinking water treatments.A comprehensive molecular analysis of the microbial community structure provides very helpful data to improve the reactor performance.However,the bottleneck of deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA)extraction from BAC attached biofilm has to be solved since the conventional procedure was unsuccessful due to firm biomass attachment and adsorption capacity of the BAC granules.In this study,five pretreatments were compared,and adding skim milk followed by ultrasonic vibration was proven to be the optimal choice.This protocol was further tested using the vertical BAC samples from the full-scale biofilter of Pinghu Water Plant.The results showed the DNAyielded a range of 40μg·g^(-1) BAC(dry weight)to over 100μg·g^(-1) BAC(dry weight),which were consistent with the biomass distribution.All results suggested that the final protocol could produce qualified genomic DNA as a template from the BAC filter for downstream molecular biology researches.Shuting ZHANG Bo WEI Xin YU Bing LIU Zhuoying WU Li GU 2010Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2010,4,4:1

15Primary assessment of the diversity of Omicron sublineages and the epidemiologic features of autumn/winter 2022 COVID-19 wave in Chinese mainland显示文摘With the recent ongoing autumn/winter 2022 COVID-19 wave and the adjustment of public health control measures,there have been widespread SARS-CoV-2 infections in Chinese mainland.Here we have analyzed 369 viral genomes from recently diagnosed COVID-19 patients in Shanghai,identifying a large number of sublineages of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron family.Phylogenetic analysis,coupled with contact history tracing,revealed simultaneous community transmission of two Omicron sublineages dominating the infections in some areas of China(BA.5.2 mainly in Guangzhou and Shanghai,and BF.7 mainly in Beijing)and two highly infectious sublineages recently imported from abroad(XBB and BQ.1).Publicly available data from August 31 to November 29,2022 indicated an overall severe/critical case rate of 0.035%nationwide,while analysis of 5706 symptomatic patients treated at the Shanghai Public Health Center between September 1 and December 26,2022 showed that 20 cases(0.35%)without comorbidities progressed into severe/critical conditions and 153 cases(2.68%)with COVID-19-exacerbated comorbidities progressed into severe/critical conditions.These observations shall alert healthcare providers to place more resources for the treatment of severe/critical cases.Furthermore,mathematical modeling predicts this autumn/winter wave might pass through major cities in China by the end of the year,whereas some middle and western provinces and rural areas would be hit by the upcoming infection wave in mid-to-late January 2023,and the duration and magnitude of upcoming outbreak could be dramatically enhanced by the extensive travels during the Spring Festival(January 21,2023).Altogether,these preliminary data highlight the needs to allocate resources to early diagnosis and effective treatment of severe cases and the protection of vulnerable population,especially in the rural areas,to ensure the country’s smooth exit from the ongoing pandemic and accelerate socio-economic recovery.Gang Lu Yun Ling Minghao Jiang Yun Tan Dong Wei Lu Jiang Shuting Yu Fangying Jiang Shuai Wang Yao Dai Jinzeng Wang Geng Wu Xinxin Zhang Guoyu Meng Shengyue Wang Feng Liu Xiaohong Fan Saijuan Chen 2023Frontiers of Medicine2023,17,4:1

17Host protection against Omicron BA.2.2 sublineages by prior vaccination in spring 2022 COVID-19 outbreak in Shanghai显示文摘The Omicron family of SARS-CoV-2 variants are currently driving the COVID-19 pandemic.Here we analyzed the clinical laboratory test results of 9911 Omicron BA.2.2 sublineages-infected symptomatic patients without earlier infection histories during a SARS-CoV-2 outbreak in Shanghai in spring 2022.Compared to an earlier patient cohort infected by SARS-CoV-2 prototype strains in 2020,BA.2.2 infection led to distinct fluctuations of pathophysiological markers in the peripheral blood.In particular,severe/critical cases of COVID19 post BA.2.2 infection were associated with less pro-inflammatory macrophage activation and stronger interferon alpha response in the bronchoalveolar microenvironment.Importantly,the abnormal biomarkers were significantly subdued in individuals who had been immunized by 2 or 3 doses of SARS-CoV-2 prototypeinactivated vaccines,supporting the estimation of an overall 96.02% of protection rate against severe/critical disease in the 4854 cases in our BA.2.2 patient cohort with traceable vaccination records.Furthermore,even though age was a critical risk factor of the severity of COVID-19 post BA.2.2 infection,vaccination-elicited protection against severe/critical COVID-19 reached 90.15% in patients aged≥60 years old.Together,our study delineates the pathophysiological features of Omicron BA.2.2 sublineages and demonstrates significant protection conferred by prior prototype-based inactivated vaccines.Ziyu Fu Dongguo Liang Wei Zhang Dongling Shi Yuhua Ma Dong Wei Junxiang Xi Sizhe Yang Xiaoguang Xu Di Tian Zhaoqing Zhu Mingquan Guo Lu Jiang Shuting Yu Shuai Wang Fangyin Jiang Yun Ling Shengyue Wang Saijuan Chen Feng Liu Yun Tan Xiaohong Fan 2023Frontiers of Medicine2023,17,3:1

20Spatial-temporal heterogeneity and determinants of HIV prevalence in the Mano River Union countries显示文摘Background:Utilizing population-based survey data in epidemiological research with a spatial perspective can integrate valuable context into the dynamics of HIV prevalence in West Africa.However,the situation in the Mano River Union(MRU)countries is largely unknown.This research aims to perform an ecological study to determine the HIV prevalence patterns in MRU.Methods:We analyzed Demographic and Health Survey(DHS)and AIDS Indicator Survey(AIS)data on HIV prevalence in MRU from 2005 to 2020.We examined the country-specifc,regional-specifc and sex-specifc ratios of respondents to profle the spatial–temporal heterogeneity of HIV prevalence and determine HIV hot spots.We employed Geodetector to measure the spatial stratifed heterogeneity(SSH)of HIV prevalence for adult women and men.We assessed the comprehensive correct knowledge(CCK)about HIV/AIDS and HIV testing uptake by employing the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator(LASSO)regression to predict which combinations of CCKs can scale up the ratio of HIV testing uptake with sex-specifc needs.Results:In our analysis,we leveraged data for 158,408 respondents from 11 surveys in the MRU.From 2005–2015,Cote d’Ivoire was the hot spot for HIV prevalence with a Gi_Bin score of 3,Z-Score 8.0–10.1 and P<0.001.From 2016 to 2020,Guinea and Sierra Leone were hot spots for HIV prevalence with a Gi_Bin score of 2,Z-Score of 3.17 and P<0.01.The SSH confrmed the signifcant diferences in HIV prevalence at the national level strata,with a higher level for Cote d’Ivoire compared to other countries in both sexes with q-values of 0.61 and 0.40,respectively.Our LASSO model predicted diferent combinations of CCKs with sex-specifc needs to improve HIV testing uptake.Conclusions:The spatial distribution of HIV prevalence in the MRU is skewed and the CCK about HIV/AIDS and HIV testing uptake are far below the threshold target set by UNAIDS for ending the epidemic in the sub-region.Geodetector detected statistically signifcant SSH within and between countries in the MRU.Our LASSO model predicted that diferent emphases should be implemented when popularizing the CCK about HIV/AIDS for adult women and men.Idrissa Laybohr Kamara Liang Wang Yaxin Guo Shuting Huo Yuanyuan Guo Chengdong Xu Yilan Liao William J.Liu Wei Ma George F.Gao 2022Infectious Diseases of Poverty2022,11,6:0
