1环境规制约束下区域创新对碳压力水平的影响研究显示文摘以2000~2015年中国区域面板数据为样本,测算了碳压力水平,分析了其总体特征,讨论了区域创新、环境规制和碳压力水平之间的理论框架,并应用全局因子分析法从技术创新、产业创新和制度创新3个维度对区域创新能力进行了分解。运用面板门槛模型实证检验了区域创新对碳压力水平变化的影响,研究发现:中国碳压力水平从盈余转变成超载的状态,在区域之间存在较大差异,碳汇增长速度滞后;环境规制对区域创新存在门槛效应,在一定的门槛值区间内,区域创新对碳压力水平改善起到正向效应,即'波特假说'是有条件成立的;区域基础异质性会对碳压力水平的变化产生不同的影响。研究表明,必须实施差异化的环境规制政策引导区域创新方向,实现低碳化转型并减少社会福利损失。马歆 薛天天 WAQAS ALI 王继东 2019管理学报2019,16,1:14
2Pancreatic necrosis:Complications and changing trend of treatment显示文摘Incidence of acute pancreatitis seems to be increasing in the Western countries and has been associated with significantly increased morbidity. Nearly 80% of the patients with acute pancreatitis undergo resolution; some develop complications including pancreatic necrosis. Infection of pancreatic necrosis is the leading cause of death in these patients. A significant portion of these patients needs surgical interventions. Traditionally, the 'gold standard' procedure has been the open surgical necrosectomy, which is now being completed by the relatively lesser invasive interventions. Minimally invasive surgical(MIS) procedures include endoscopic drainage, percutaneous image-guided catheter drainage, and retroperitoneal drainage. 4Detailed investigation of optimized alkali catalyzed transesterification of Jatropha oil for biodiesel production显示文摘The non-edible oils are believed to be one of the major feedstock for the production of biodiesel in future.In the present study,we investigated the production of Jatropha oil methyl esters(JOMEs) via alkali-catalyzed transesterification route.The biophysical characteristics of Jatropha oil were found within the optimal range in accordance with ASTM standards as a substitute diesel fuel.The chemical composition and production yield of as-synthesized biodiesel were confirmed by various analytical techniques such as FT-IR,1H NMR,13 C NMR and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.A high percentage conversion,~96.09%,of fatty acids into esters was achieved under optimized transesterification conditions with 6 :1 oil to methanol ratio and 0.9 wt% Na OH for 50 min at ~60°C.Moreover,twelve fatty acids methyl esters(FAME) were quantified in the GC/MS analysis and it was interesting to note that the mass fragmentation pattern of saturated,monounsaturated and diunsaturated FAME was comparable with the literature reported values.Waqas Ahmed Muhammad Faizan Nazar Syed Danish Ali Usman Ali Rana Salah Ud-Din Khan 2015Journal of Energy Chemistry2015,24,3:5
5Interaction of soil microbial communities and phosphorus fractions under long-term fertilization in paddy soil显示文摘Understanding the impact of biological activities on the soil phosphorus(P)distribution under long-term fertilizer application can facilitate better soil P fertility management.Therefore,the primary objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of long-term(since 1981)fertilizer application on the soil P fractions and microbial community and to evaluate correlations between the microbial community structure and P distribution.The following treatments were implemented in a long-term field trial:no fertilization(CK),inorganic N and K(NK),inorganic P and K(PK),inorganic N,P and K(NPK)and manure+NPK(MNPK)fertilization.The study showed that the soil pH,soil organic carbon and total and available N and P concentrations were considerably higher in the MNPK treatment than in the CK treatment.The soil microbial biomass C,N and P concentrations were also significantly higher in the MNPK treatment than in the CK treatment.Among fertilization treatments,theβ-1,4-glucosidase,α-1,4-glucosidase,urease,acid phosphatase and phosphodiesterase activities were the highest in the MNPK treatment.Compared to inorganic fertilization,the MNPK treatment increased the labile soil P fractions and decreased the residual soil P concentration.Continuous fertilization significantly affected the soil microbial composition.The total phospholipid fatty acid(PLFA)concentrations in the NK,PK,NPK and MNPK treatments were 23.3,43.1,48.7 and 87.7%higher,respectively,than in the CK treatment.A significant correlation was observed between the microbial community and soil P fractions.Moreover,the aggregated boosted tree(ABT)model showed that among the various soil biochemical properties,the total PLFA concentration was the factor that most influenced the active P pool,accounting for 35.4%of the relative influence of all soil biochemical properties examined.These findings reveal that combined manure and inorganic fertilizer application is a better approach than applying inorganic fertilizer alone for sustaining long-term P fertility by mediating soil biological activity.Muhammad QASWAR Waqas AHMED HUANG Jing LIU Kai-lou ZHANG Lu HAN Tian-fu DU Jiang-xue Sehrish ALI Hafeez UR-RAHIM HUANG Qing-hai ZHANG Hui-min 2022Journal of Integrative Agriculture2022,21,7:2
6Metabolic investigations in patients with hepatitis B and C显示文摘AIM:To investigate the similarities and dissimilarities in patients with hepatitis B and hepatitis C,clinically and metabolically. METHODS:Fifty patients with hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus infection were included in this study, along with fifty healthy controls for comparison purposes.Intravenous blood(10 mL)samples from patients and healthy subjects were collected and made to clot before serum was separated and immediately levels of the enzymes,alkaline phosphatase(ALK),creatinine phosphokinase(CPK),lactate dehydrogenase (LDH),serum glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase(sGOT)and serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase(sGPT)were determined by a kit method.For total con-tent of each metal the serum samples were analyzed using atomic absorption spectrophotometry.Levels of cholesterol,triglycerides,urea,creatinine and uric acid were determined using a kit method on Microlab 300. RESULTS:Serum magnesium and copper levels remained unchanged,whereas the concentration of zinc decreased and iron increased significantly in both groups of patients.Total antioxidant activity was significantly decreased in both hepatitis B and C.Among the enzymes analyzed,ALK,s-GPT,LDH and s-GOT were all significantly increased in both patients with hepatitis B and C whereas CPK was significantly decreased in patients with hepatitis B and remained unchanged in patients with hepatitis C. 7Dynamics of organic carbon and nitrogen in deep soil profile and crop yields under long-term fertilization in wheat-maize cropping system显示文摘Soil organic carbon(SOC)and nitrogen(N)are two of the most important indicators for agricultural productivity.The primary objective of this study was to investigate the changes in SOC and N in the deep soil profile(up to 100 cm)and their relationships with crop productivity under the influence of long-term(since 1990)fertilization in the wheat-maize cropping system.Treatments included CK(control),NP(inorganic N and phosphorus(P)fertilizers),NPK(inorganic N,P and potassium fertilizers),NPKM(NPK plus manure),and M(manure).Crop yield and the properties of topsoil were measured yearly from 2001 to 2009.C and N contents were measured at five different depths in 2001 and 2009.The results showed that wheat and maize yields decreased between 2001 and 2009 under the inorganic fertilizer(NP and NPK)treatments.The average yield between 2001 and 2009 under the NP,NPK,NPKM,and M treatments(compared with the CK treatment)increased by 38,115,383,and 381%,respectively,for wheat and 348,891,2738,and 1845%,respectively,for maize.Different long-term fertilization treatments significantly changed coarse free particulate(cf POC),fine free particulate(ff POC),intramicroaggregate particulate(i POC),and mineral-associated(m SOC)organic carbon fractions.In the experimental years of 2001 and 2009,soil fractions occurred in the following order for all treatments:m SOC>cf POC>i POC>ff POC.All fractions were higher under the manure application treatments than under the inorganic fertilization treatments.Compared to the inorganic fertilization treatments,manure input enhanced the stocks of SOC and total N in the surface layer(0–20 cm)but decreased SOC and N in the deep soil layer(80–100 cm).This reveals the efficiency of manure in increasing yield productivity and decreasing risk of vertical loss of nutrients,especially N,compared to inorganic fertilization treatments.The findings provide opportunities for understanding deep soil C and N dynamics,which could help mitigate climate change impact on agricultural production and maintain soil health.Muhammad QASWAR LI Dong-chu HUANG Jing HAN Tian-fu Waqas AHMED Sehrish ALI Muhammad Numan KHAN Zulqarnain Haider KHAN XU Yong-mei LI Qian ZHANG Hui-min WANG Bo-ren Ahmad TAUQEER 2022Journal of Integrative Agriculture2022,21,3:2
8Boosting the electrochemical performance and reliability of conducting polyme microelectrode via intermediate graphene for on-chip asymmetric micro-supercapacitor显示文摘High-performance anode is hurdle for on-chip planar microsupercapacitor(MSC).Polypyrrole(PPy)is a highly attractive pseudocapacitive material,but its low cycling stability,and low adhesion with current collector hinder its practicability.Herein we propose one-prong generic strategy to boost the cycling stability of PPy.For our strategy,the electrochemical deposition of multilayered reduced graphene oxide(rGO)on micropatterned Au is utilized,and the resultant rGO@Au pattern is then used for growing highly porous PPy nanostructures by facile electrochemical polymerization.The fabricated PPy anode on rGO@Au has quasi rectangular cyclic voltammetry curves up to-0.7 V and exceptional cycling stability,retaining82%of capacitance after 10,000 charge/discharge cycles in 2 M KCl electrolyte.The outstanding reliability of PPy on rGO@Au is due to the flexibility of rGO,accommodating structural pulverization and providing a promising background for the nucleation of highly porous nanostructure.Further,an all-polymer based asymmetric aqueous MSC(AMSC)is constructed with PPy anode and PEDOT cathode,which exhibited excellent electrochemical performance compared with conventional symmetric MSCs based on conducting polymers.The constructed AMSC delivered a maximum areal capacitance of 15.9 m F cm^-2(99.3 F cm^-3),high specific energy and power densities of 4.3μWh cm^-2(27.03 mWh cm^-3)and 0.36 W cm^-2(0.68 W cm^-3)at 1.4 V,respectively.The enhanced electrochemical performances can be illustrated by nucleation mechanism,in which surface topology of r GO generates a promising background for nucleation and electrochemical growth of nanoporous pseudocapacitive conducting polymers with superior interfacial contact and improved surface area.Muhammad Tahir Liang He Wei Yang Xufeng Hong Waqas Ali Haider Hui Tang Zhe Zhu Kwadwo Asare Owusu Liqiang Mai 2020Journal of Energy Chemistry2020,29,10:1
9Thoracic impalement injury: A survivor with large metallic object in-situ显示文摘Impalement injuries, is a severe form of trauma, which are not common in civilian life. These injuries rarely occurs in major accidents. Abdomen, chest, limbs and perineum are often involved due to their large surface area. Thoracic impalement injury is usually a fatal injury, due to location of major vessels and heart in the thoracic cavity. These injuries are horrifying to site, but the patients who are lucky enough to make it to hospital, usually survive. Chances of survival are larger in right sided impalement injuries while central injuries are always died at the scene.Our patient, 25 years old male, was brought to the emergency room (ER) with large impaled metallic bar (about 2.5 feet long) in situ, in right sided chest. The patient was immediately shifted to operation room (OR) and was operated, his recovery was uneventful without any sequelae.Such patients should be treated and resuscitated according to advanced trauma life support (ATLS) protocols and operated without any delay for further investigations. Such operations are carried out by the most experienced surgeon team available. The impaled objects should not be processed if not necessary to avoid major hemorrhage and damage to vital structures, until the patient is in operation room. Large size and unusual position of impaled objects, makes the job difficult for surgeons/anesthetists.Although horrifying at scene, patients with thoracic impalement injuries are mostly young and healthy, and those who survive the pre-hospital phase are potentially manageable with proper resuscitation. 11Effects of left ventricular assist device on pulmonary functions and pulmonary hemodynamics:A meta-analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Given current evidence,the effect of left ventricular assist device(LVAD)implantation on pulmonary function tests remains controversial.AIM To better understand the factors contributing to the changes seen on pulmonary function testing and the correlation with pulmonary hemodynamics after LVAD implantation.METHODS Electronic databases were queried to identify relevant articles.The summary effect size was estimated as a difference of overall means and standard deviation on a random-effects model.RESULTS A total of four studies comprising 219 patients were included.The overall mean forced expiratory volume in one second(FEV1),forced vital capacity(FVC)and diffusion lung capacity of carbon monoxide(DLCO)after LVAD implantation were significantly lower by 0.23 L(95%CI:0.11-0.34,P=00002),0.18 L(95%CI:0.03-0.34,P=0.02),and 3.16 mmol/min(95%CI:2.17-4.14,P<0.00001),respectively.The net post-LVAD mean value of the cardiac index was significantly higher by 0.49 L/min/m2(95%CI:0.31-0.66,P<0.00001)compared to pre-LVAD value.The pulmonary capillary wedge pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance were significantly reduced after LVAD implantation by 8.56 mmHg(95%CI:3.78-13.35,P=0.0004),and 0.83 Woods U(95%CI:0.11-1.55,P=0.02),respectively.There was no significant difference observed in the right atrial pressure after LVAD implantation(0.61 mmHg,95%CI:-2.00 to 3.32,P=0.65).Overall findings appear to be driven by studies using HeartMateII devices.CONCLUSION LVAD implantation might be associated with a significant reduction of the spirometric measures,including FEV1,FVC,and DLCO,and an overall improvement of pulmonary hemodynamics.Waqas Ullah Casey Meizinger Zain Ali Ankur Panchal Rehan Saeed Donald C Haas Eduardo Rame 2020World Journal of Cardiology2020,12,11:0
12Medical therapy vs early revascularization in diabetics with chronic total occlusions:A meta-analysis and systematic review显示文摘BACKGROUND Management of chronic total occlusions(CTO)in diabetics is challenging,with a recent trend towards early revascularization[ER:Percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)and bypass grafting]instead of optimal medical therapy(OMT).We hypothesize that ER improves morbidity and mortality outcomes in diabetic patients with CTOs as compared to OMT.AIM To determine the long term clinical outcomes and to compare morbidity and mortality between OMT and ER in diabetic patients with CTOs.METHODS Potentially relevant published clinical trials were identified in Medline,Embase,chemical abstracts and Biosis(from start of the databases till date)and pooled hazard ratios(HR)computed using a random effects model,with significant P value<0.05.Primary outcome of interest was all-cause death.Secondary outcomes included cardiac death,prompt revascularization(ER)or repeat myocardial infarction(MI).Due to scarcity of data,both Randomized control trials and observational studies were included.4 eligible articles,containing 2248 patients were identified(1252 in OMT and 1196 in ER).Mean follow-up was 45-60 mo.RESULTS OMT was associated with a higher all-cause mortality[HR:1.70,95%confidence interval(CI):0.80-3.26,P=0.11]and cardiac mortality(HR:1.68,95%CI:0.96-2.96,P=0.07).Results were close to significance.The risk of repeat MI was almost the same in both groups(HR:0.97,95%CI:0.61-1.54,P=0.90).Similarly,patients assigned to OMT had a higher risk of repeat revascularization(HR:1.62,95%CI:1.36-1.94,P<0.00001).Sub-group analysis of OMT vs PCI demonstrated higher all-cause(HR:1.98,95%CI:1.36-2.87,P=0.0003)and cardiac mortality(HR:1.87,95%CI:0.96-3.62,P=0.06)in the OMT group.The risk of repeat MI was low in the OMT group vs PCI(HR:0.53,95%CI:0.31-0.91,P=0.02).Data on repeat revascularization revealed no difference between the two(HR:1.00,95%CI:0.52-1.93,P=1.00).CONCLUSION In diabetic patients with CTO,there was a trend for improved outcomes with ER regarding all-cause and cardiac death as compared to OMT.These findings were reinforced with statistical significance on subgroup analysis of OMT vs PCI.Muhammad Shayan Khan Farhad Sami Hemindermeet Singh Waqas Ullah Ma'en Al-Dabbas Khalid Hamid Changal Tanveer Mir Zain Ali Ameer Kabour 2020World Journal of Cardiology2020,12,11:0

16Evolutional AtHtude Based on Option Prioritization for Conflict Analysis of Urban Transport Planning in Pakistan显示文摘This paper constructs a dynamic conflict model that considers Decision Makers'(DMs)evolutional attitude using the option prioritization.The proposed evolutional attitude approach is based on the framework of the Graph Model for Conflict Resolution(GMCR).Compared with the existing state-based preference,the option prioritization is a more convenient and efficient approach to analyze larger models with consideration of the evolutional attitude,which exists broadly in the evolutional conflicts in reallife.This study reveals how the evolutional attitude of a DM succeeds in the overall evolution of conflict.The analysis unfolds that DMs change their attitude(s)consequent upon the changes in DMs and options available to them as conflict evolves from one level to the next.The changes in attitude of DMs during dynamic conflict situation have substantial effects on the equilibrium outcomes of a conflict.The proposed evaluation attitude-based approach is employed to analyze the conflict between the Punjab Government(G)and Heritage Campaigner and the Public(P)in Pakistan that appeared due to the inappropriate design,planning,and construction of an urban transport system project in Lahore,Pakistan.The present study demonstrates the modeling procedure of a two-level evolutional attitude-based conflict analysis.The results of the stability analysis reveal that improper(negative)attitude may result in undesirable and unexpected consequences,such as project temporalities and delays.This research provides a foundation for future research in urban project planning that employs strategic ways to avoid disputes caused by DMs'attitudes.Sharafat Ali Haiyan Xu Peng Xu Waqas Ahmed 2019Journal of Systems Science and Systems Engineering2019,28,3:0
17Morphological Variations,Distribution and Population Estimation of Indian Spiny Tailed Liza rd(Uromastyx hardwickii Gray,1827)from District Bahawalnagar,Punjab,Pakistan显示文摘This study was conducted in selected sites of District Bahawalnagar namely,Shaheed Chowk,Chak40/F,Chak 163/7 R and Fareedkot Tiba between March 2019 and August 2019.Sampling techniques included recording of burrows,flooding,burrow exaction,noose traps and pit fall traps were used to capture Uromast yx hardwickii.During this survey150 individuals were captured from study area for morphological measurement and population estimation.The average snout to vent length(SVL)of male,female and juveniles were(172.50±19.71)mm,(155.50±18.72)mm and(86.25±11.72)mm respectively.The average weight of male,female and juvenile was(93.06±8.56)g,(88.16±7.95)g and(40.16±4.30)g respectively.The relative abundance(Pi)of males,females and juveniles were 0.53,0.33 and 0.13.Indian spiny tailed lizard(U.hardwickii)has been listed in the IUCN Red list and CITES.Major threats to the species in the study area are increase in urbanization,habitat fragmentation,illegal hunting for meat and fat.In this regard strict implementation of the Wildlife act is needed to protect the wildlife of Punjab.Furthermore,comprehensive surveys are required in throughout Punjab to declare conservation status of U.hardwickii.Waqas ALI Arshad JAVID Saddam HUSSAIN Ali HUSSAIN Syed Mohsin BUKHARI 2020Asian Herpetological Research2020,11,3:0
18Multiscale engineering of microbial cell factories: A step forward towards sustainable natural products industry显示文摘Microbial cell factories(bacteria and fungi)are the leading producers of beneficial natural products such as lycopene,carotene,herbal medicine,and biodiesel etc.These microorganisms are considered efficient due to their effective bioprocessing strategy(monoculture-and consortial-based approach)under distinct processing conditions.Meanwhile,the advancement in genetic and process optimization techniques leads to enhanced biosynthesis of natural products that are known functional ingredients with numerous applications in the food,cosmetic and medical industries.Natural consortia and monoculture thrive in nature in a small proportion,such as wastewater,food products,and soils.In similitude to natural consortia,it is possible to engineer artificial microbial consortia and program their behaviours via synthetic biology tools.Therefore,this review summarizes the optimization of genetic and physicochemical parameters of the microbial system for improved production of natural products.Also,this review presents a brief history of natural consortium and describes the functional properties of monocultures.This review focuses on synthetic biology tools that enable new approaches to design synthetic consortia;and highlights the syntropic interactions that determine the performance and stability of synthetic consortia.In particular,the effect of processing conditions and advanced genetic techniques to improve the productibility of both monoculture and consortial based systems have been greatly emphasized.In this context,possible strategies are also discussed to give an insight into microbial engineering for improved pro-duction of natural products in the future.In summary,it is concluded that the coupling of genomic modifications with optimum physicochemical factors would be promising for producing a robust microbial cell factory that shall contribute to the increased production of natural products.Muhammad Hammad Hussain Muhammad Zubair Mohsin Waqas Qamar Zaman Junxiong Yu Xueli Zhao Yanlong Wei Yingping Zhuang Ali Mohsin Meijin Guo 2022Synthetic and Systems Biotechnology2022,7,1:0
19Techno-economic assessment of energy generation through municipal solid waste:a case study for small/medium size districts in Pakistan显示文摘There is an increase in annual waste generation due to urbanization,industrialization,and population growth.The waste management crisis in developing countries and its complexity from region to region has inspired extensive research work in this area.Poor management not only results in environmental hazards,but it also causes significant socio-economic losses.Due to the absence of comprehensive studies on waste to energy(WTE)assessment,this study assesses and reports the merits of alternative technologies for converting WTE in small and medium-size districts.Quantitative analysis for waste collection data in this study uses a pilot study approach to provide useful insights and waste classification.A cantonment district of Pakistan(Wah Cantt)has been used as a case study for performing a technological and economic assessment of energy generation through the use of thermal and biological treatment processes.A mathematical modeling approach has been adopted for generating an economic value of each technology through which this waste can be processed.Further,the levelized cost of energy(LCOE)based assessment has been performed to provide a methodological framework for selecting the most feasible WTE technology in a small or medium-size district.Based on the model results,anaerobic digestion appears to be the most sustainable technology due to the organic nature of waste in Wah Cantt,land legislation,and availability of area to install a waste plant.Considering all the waste collected,the district can generate approximately 14.4 MW of energy through thermal treatment,19,110 m^(3) of daily biogas through anaerobic digestion,and 5 million tons of fertilizer through composting.Hence,if a proper supply chain is established for converting a portion of Pakistan’s annual waste generation,a significant amount of waste energy potential can be restored.Ubaid Ur Rehman Zia Tanzeel ur Rashid Muzaffar Ali Waqas Nazir Awan 2020Waste Disposal and Sustainable Energy2020,2,4:0
20CFTR mutations causing congenital unilateral absence of the vas deferens(CUAVD)and congenital absence of the uterus(CAU)in a consanguineous family显示文摘Cystic fibrosis(CF)is one of the most common recessive genetic diseases,with a wide spectrum of phenotypes,ranging from infertility to severe pulmonary disease.Mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator(CFTR)gene are considered the main genetic cause for CF.In this study,we recruited a consanguineous Iranian pedigree with four male patients diagnosed with congenital unilateral absence of the vas deferens(CUAVD),and one female patient diagnosed with congenital absence of the uterus(CAU).Testicular biopsy of one patient was performed,and hematoxylin and eosin(H and E)staining of testis sections displayed the presence of germ cell types ranging from spermatogonia to mature spermatids,indicating obstructive azoospermia.To explore the underlying genetic factor in this familial disorder,we therefore performed whole-exome sequencing(WES)on all available family members.WES data filtration and CFTR haplotype analysis identified compound heterozygous mutations in CFTR among four patients(two CUAVD patients carried p.H949Y and p.L997F,and one CUAVD and the female CAU patient carried p.H949Y and p.I148T).All these mutations were predicted to be deleterious by at least half of the prediction software programs and were confirmed by Sanger sequencing.Our study reported that CFTR compound heterozygous mutations in a consanguineous Iranian family cause infertility in both sexes.Mahdieh Daliri Ghouchanatigh Ranjha Khan Majid Mojarrad Uzma Hameed Muhammad Zubair Ahmed Waqas Mohsen Jalali Mahmoudreza Kalantari Ali Shamsa Huan Zhang Qing-Hua Shi 2022Asian Journal of Andrology2022,24,4:0
