| 1 | Fast acceleration of “killer” electrons and energetic ions by interplanetary shock stimulated ULF waves in the inner magnetosphere显示文摘Energetic electrons and ions in the Van Allen radiation belt are the number one space weather threat. Understanding how these energetic particles are accelerated within the Van Allen radiation belt is one of the major challenges in space physics. This paper reviews the recent progress on the fast acceleration of 'killer' electrons and energetic ions by ultralow frequency (ULF) waves stimulated by the interplanetary shock in the inner magnetosphere. Very low frequency (VLF) wave-particle interaction is considered to be one of the primary electron acceleration mechanisms because electron cyclotron resonances can easily occur in the VLF frequency range. Recently, using four Cluster spacecraft observations, we have found that, after interplanetary shocks impact the Earth’s magnetosphere, energetic electrons in the radiation belt are accelerated almost immediately and continue to accelerate for a few hours. The time scale (a few days) for traditional acceleration mechanisms, based on VLF wave-particle interactions to accelerate electrons to relativistic energies, is too long to explain our observations. Furthermore, we have found that interplanetary shocks or solar wind pressure pulses, with even small dynamic pressure changes, can play a non-negligible role in radiation belt dynamics. Interplanetary shocks interaction with the Earth’s magnetosphere manifests many fundamental space physics phenomena including energetic particle acceleration. The mechanism of fast acceleration of energetic electrons in the radiation belt responding to interplanetary shock impacts consists of three contributing parts: (1) the initial adiabatic acceleration due to strong shock-related magnetic field compression; (2) followed by the drift-resonant acceleration with poloidal ULF waves excited at different L-shells; and (3) particle acceleration due to the quickly damping electric fields associated with ULF waves. Particles end up with a net acceleration because they gain more energy in the first half of this cycle than they lose in the second. The results reported in this paper cast a new light on understanding the acceleration of energetic particles in the Earth’s Van Allen radiation belt. | 3 | Applications of Electrical Capacitance Tomography in Two Phase Flow Visualization显示文摘The successful application of Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) depends heavily on the image reconstruction speed and quality. The two requirements usually cannot be satisfied simultaneously. Also, for a large number of acquired 2D ECT images, a 3D presentation of them is much desired to track the variations of the material distribution in a third dimension. To facilitate ECT for practical flow analyses in process engineering, the authors have recently developed algorithms for 3D image presentation and for online iterative image reconstruction that only takes the same time as a linear back projection method but yields good image qualities as the Landweber iterative method does. The new methods have been successfully applied to visualize several classes of two phase flows, namely fluidization, cyclone separation, circulating rate determination in circulating fluidized beds, pneumatic conveying, rotating drum mixing. | 4 | Numerical simulation of magnetospheric ULF waves excited by positive and negative impulses of solar wind dynamic pressure显示文摘The sources of ultra low frequency (ULF) waves in the magnetosphere are generally believed to be either the external solar wind perturbations or the internal plasma instabilities. When a sudden impulse of the solar wind dynamic pressure impinges on the magnetopause, ULF waves might be excited and thus the solar wind energy is transported into the earth's magnetosphere. In this paper, we study the ULF waves excited by different kinds of sudden solar wind pressure impulses through an MHD simulation. We primarily focus on the responses of the earth's magnetosphere to positive/negative impulses of solar wind dynamic pressure, and positive-negative impulse pairs. The simulation results show that the ULF waves excited by positive and negative impulse have the same amplitude and frequency, with 180° difference in phase, if the amplitude and durations of the input impulses are the same. In addition, it is found that field line resonances (FLRs) occur at certain L-shell regions of the earth's magneto-sphere after the impact of different positive-negative impulse pairs, which appear to be related to the duration of the impulses and the time interval between the sequential impulses. Another result is that the energy from the solar wind could be transported deeper into the inner magnetosphere by an impulse pair than by a single pulse impact. The results presented in this paper could help us to better understand how energy is transported from solar wind to the earth's magnetosphere via ULF waves. | 10 | The Deep Geophysical Structure of the Middle Section of the Longmen Mountains Tectonic Belt and its Relation to the Wenchuan Earthquake显示文摘Investigation of the deep geophysical structure of the Longmen Mountains tectonic belt and its relation to the Wenchuan Earthquake is important for the study of earthquakes. By using magnetotelluric sounding profiles of the Luqu–Zhongjiang and Anxian–Suining; seismic sounding profiles of the Sichuan Maowen–Chongqing Gongtan, the Qinghai Huashi Gorge–Sichuan Jianyang, and the Batang–Zizhong; and magnetogravimetric data of the Longmen Mountains region, the deep geophysical structure of the Songpan–Ganzi block, the western Sichuan foreland basin, and the Longmen Mountains tectonic belt and their relation was discussed. The eastward extrusion of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau thrusts the Songpan–Ganzi block upon the Yangtze block, which obstructs the eastward movement of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. The Maoxian–Wenchuan, Beichuan–Yingxiu, and Anxian–Guanxian faults of the Longmen Mountains fault belt dip to northwest with different dip angles and gradually converge in the deeper parts. Geophysical structure suggests that an intracrustal low-velocity, low-resistivity, and high-conductivity layer is common between the middle and upper crust west of the Longmen Mountains tectonic belt but not in the upper Yangtze block. The Sichuan Basin has a thick low-resistance sedimentary layer on a stable high-resistance basement; moreover, there are secondary paleohighs and depression structures at the lower part of the western Sichuan foreland basin with characteristic of high magnetic anomalies, whereas the Songpan–Ganzi block has a high resisitivity cover of upper crust and continues to a low-resistance layer. Considering the Longmen Mountains tectonic belt as the boundary, there are Bouguer gravity anomalies of 'one belt between two zones.' Thus, we infer that there is a corresponding relation between the inferred crystalline basement of the Songpan block and the underlying basin basement of the Longmen Mountains fault belt. Furthermore, there may be an extensive ancient Yangtze block, which is west of the Ruoergai block. In addition, the crust–mantle ductile shear zone under the Longmen Mountains tectonic belt is the main fault, whereas the Beichuan–Yingxiu and Anxian–Guanxian faults at the surface are earthquake faults. The Wenchuan Ms 8.0 earthquake might be attributed to the collision of the Yangtze block and the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. | 14 | Refinement of the crystal structure for a new mineral──antimonselite显示文摘The crystal structure of a new mineral of the stibnite group, Sb-2Se-3, has been determined. The cell constants, obtained by least-squares calculation from direct θ -value’s measurements on the diffractometer are: a =1.158 8(5), b =1.174 4(4), c =0.395 5(2) nm; orthorhombic; V =0.538 23 nm+3; Z =4. The space group is Pbnm. X-ray single crystal data, using Mo K α radiation, were measured on a RIGAKU RASA-5RP automated diffractometer and refined to a final R index of 0.048 1. Sb-2Se-3 is isostructural with Sb-2S-3 and Bi-2S-3. Each Sb(1) atom is six-coordinated by 3 Se(1), 1 Se(2) and 2 Se(3) atoms at distances 0.266 0-0.323 6 nm. Each Sb(2) atom is seven-coordinated by 2 Se(1), 2 Se(2) and 3 Se(3) atoms at distances of 0.258 1- 0.346 7 nm. The crystal structure consists of chains parallel to c or needle axis. The strongest bonds (shortest separations) are within the chains. | 15 | Chinese Teachers’Professional Identity and Beliefs about the Teacher-Student Relationships in an Intercultural Context显示文摘This paper presents a qualitative study of immigrant Chinese teachers’professional identity and beliefs about the teacher-student relationship in an intercultural context.Theoretically,this study takes its departure from a sociocultural perspective on understanding professional identity.The empirical analysis in the study drew mainly upon ethnographic interviews with a group of Chinese language teachers in Denmark concerning their life experiences,perceptions,and beliefs.The results of this study suggest that teachers’beliefs about their roles as teachers and about student-teacher relationships are shaped by both their prior experiences and backgrounds and the current social and cultural contexts in which they are situated.Changes of context(e.g.,from China to Denmark)often lead to a transformation of their professional identity and beliefs.Being a teacher in an intercultural context often exposes them to the confrontation of diverse challenges and dilemmas.On one hand,teachers in this study generally experienced a transformation from being a moral role model,subject expert,authority and parental role to being a learning facilitator and culture worker.On the other hand,they developed diverse individualized coping strategies to handle student-teacher interactions and other aspects of teachers’professional identity. | Li WANG Xiangyun DU | 2014 | Frontiers of Education in China2014,9,3: | 2 |
| 16 | Human health ambient water quality criteria for 13 heavy metals and health risk assessment in Taihu Lake显示文摘Heavy metals are widely concerning because of their toxicity,persistence,non-degradation and bioaccumulation ability.Iluman health ambient water quality criteria(AWQC)are specific levels of chemicals that can occur in water without harming human health.At present,most countries do not consider the effects of aquatic vegetables in deriving human health AWQC.Therefore,the intake of aquatic vegetables(Brasenia schreberi)was added to the derivation of human health AWQC and a health risk assessment for 13 heavy metals in Taihu Lake.The human health AWQC(consumption of water,fish and aquatic vegetables)values of 13 heavy metals ranged from 0.04(Cd)to 710.87μg/L(Sn),and the intake of B.schreberi had a very significant effect on the human health AWQC for Cu,with a more than 62-fold difference.The hazard quotients of As(2.8),Cd(1.6),Cr(1.4)and Cu(4.86)were higher than the safe level(HQ=1),indicating that As,Cd,Cr and Cu in Taihu Lake posed a significant health risk.Sensitivity analysis showed that the contribution rate of B.schreberi intake to the human health risk from Cu was 91.6%,and all results indicated that the risk of Cu in B.schreberi to human health should be of particular concern.This study adds the consideration of aquatic vegetable consumption to the traditional method of human health AWQC derivation and risk assessments for the first time,and this approach can promote the development of risk assessments and water quality criteria. | Liang Cui Ji Li Xiangyun Gao Biao Tian Jiawen Zhang Xiaonan Wang Zhengtao Liu | 2022 | Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2022,16,4: | 2 |
| 17 | Research of an SHPB Device in Two-by-Two Form for Impact Experiments of Concrete-Like Heterogeneous Materials显示文摘A split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)device in two-by-two form,including the bar bundle form and the single cylindrical bar form,was designed in response to the demand for the dynamic mechanical experiments for brittle materials such as concrete,rock,etc.The stress waveforms generated through a projectile impacting two different types of incident bars have been studied based on the one-dimensional stress wave theory and numerical simulation method.At last,based on the established two types of mesoscale concrete models with random convex polyhedral aggregates,we performed comparison analysis of SHPB numerical simulations for concrete materials with bar bundle and single cylindrical bar separately,so as to provide technical support for the manufacture and development of this experimental device.The results showed that the introduced two-by-two form SHPB device expanded the scope of practical application,and the wave dispersion effect existing in a large-diameter bar can be evidently reduced when we employed the bar bundle form,indicating its applicability to the dynamic mechanical experiments of concrete-like heterogeneous materials. | Ruiqi Guo Huiqi Ren Lei Zhang Zhilin Long Xiangyun Wu Hailu Wang | 2021 | Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2021,34,4: | 2 |
| 18 | Application of ERS-1 scatterometer data to studying land surfaces ──Distributive characteristic of backscattering coefficient over China land surfaces显示文摘ERS 1 WSC data were obtained by international cooperation. The distributive characteristics of radar backscattering coefficient image of China land surface are analyzed and the research results are presented. The capability of ERS 1 WSC data for monitoring land surfaces is investigated. The results show that the radar backscattering coefficient images can reveal the natural landform features of China land. Using the WSC data can discriminate six types of major land coverage, including evergreen vegetation and snow covered region, vegetation and crops, mountains, grassland, desert and grassland, desert. On the whole, the radar backscattering coefficient image of China land is the synthesis of the vegetation map and terrain map. Statistical study of the typical terrain shows that the radar backscatter coefficients of China land range from -29 dB to -5 dB. The lowest value corresponds to the deserts of Badain Jaran, Takla Makan, and Tengger.
