| 1 | Analyzing machine learning models to accelerate generation of fundamental materials insights显示文摘Machine learning for materials science envisions the acceleration of basic science research through automated identification of key data relationships to augment human interpretation and gain scientific understanding.A primary role of scientists is extraction of fundamental knowledge from data,and we demonstrate that this extraction can be accelerated using neural networks via analysis of the trained data model itself rather than its application as a prediction tool.Convolutional neural networks excel at modeling complex data relationships in multi-dimensional parameter spaces,such as that mapped by a combinatorial materials science experiment.Measuring a performance metric in a given materials space provides direct information about(locally)optimal materials but not the underlying materials science that gives rise to the variation in performance.By building a model that predicts performance(in this case photoelectrochemical power generation of a solar fuels photoanode)from materials parameters(in this case composition and Raman signal),subsequent analysis of gradients in the trained model reveals key data relationships that are not readily identified by human inspection or traditional statistical analyses.Human interpretation of these key relationships produces the desired fundamental understanding,demonstrating a framework in which machine learning accelerates data interpretation by leveraging the expertize of the human scientist.We also demonstrate the use of neural network gradient analysis to automate prediction of the directions in parameter space,such as the addition of specific alloying elements,that may increase performance by moving beyond the confines of existing data. | Mitsutaro Umehara Helge S.Stein Dan Guevarra Paul F.Newhouse David A.Boyd John M.Gregoire | 2019 | npj Computational Materials2019,,1: | 7 |

| 4 | Endoscopic findings can predict the efficacy of leukocytapheresis for steroid-naive patients with moderately active ulcerative colitis显示文摘AIM:To investigate the therapeutic usefulness of leukocytapheresis (LCAP; Cellsoba) in steroid-naive patients with moderately active ulcerative colitis (UC). METHODS: Eighteen steroid-naive patients with moderately active UC received one LCAP session every week for fi ve consecutive weeks. RESULTS: The remission rate 8 weeks after the last LCAP session was 61.1% (11/18). All three patients with deep ulcers showed worsening after LCAP. For the remaining 15 patients, who had erosions or geographic ulcers, the average clinical activity index (CAI) score dropped significantly from 9.4 to 3.8 eight weeks after the last LCAP session (t = 4.89, P = 0.001). The average C-reactive protein (CRP) levels before and after LCAP were 1.2 mg/dL and 1.0 mg/dL, respectively. Of the patients with erosions, geographic ulcers, and deep ulcers, 100% (9/9), 33.3% (2/6), and 0% (0/3) were in remission 8 weeks after the last LCAP session, respectively (χ2 = 7.65, P < 0.005). Forty- eight weeks after the last LCAP session, the remission rates for patients with erosions and geographic ulcers were 44.4% (4/9) and 16.7% (1/6), respectively. Only one patient suffered a mild adverse event after LCAP (nausea). CONCLUSION: LCAP is a useful and safe therapyfor steroid-naive UC patients with moderate disease activity. | 5 | Update on classification,diagnosis,and management of immunoglobulin G4-related disease显示文摘Immunoglobulin G4-related disease(IgG4-RD)is a newly recognized chronic fibro-inflammatory autoimmune disease,and its recognition has been constantly increasing worldwide over the last few years.A correct and timely recognition,as well as appropriate intervention,is crucial for the treatment of IgG4-RD.For certain subtypes of IgG4-RD,organ-specific criteria are formulated to make the diagnosis more accurate.New biomarkers have emerged in the recent years to aid the disease diagnosis,its prognosis prediction,as well as therapy response monitoring.Although recurrence is very common in IgG4-RD,glucocorticoid is still the first-line treatment for the majority of patients.The factors that affect the likelihood of disease relapse are multifaceted.The selection strategy of various steroid-sparing agents is still being explored.Besides,when patients have special sites involvement leading to severe clinical conditions,surgical operation or interventional therapy should also be considered.An update on classification,diagnosis,and management of IgG4-RD is provided in the current study to fully elucidate the recommended clinical practice of this mysterious disease. | Yu Chen Shaozhe Cai Lingli Dong Hisanori Umehara | 2022 | Chinese Medical Journal2022,,4: | 2 |
