| 5 | Antioxidant activity and phenol and flavonoid contents of eight medicinal plants from Western Nepal显示文摘OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant activity, phenolic and flavonoids contents of selected medicinal plants form the Western region of Nepal.METHODS: The antioxidant activity of selected medicinal plants were determined by using 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity; total ferric ion reducing ability through spectroscopic analysis. The content of total phenols was determined using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, whereas Aluminum chloride colorimetric method was used for flavonoid determination.RESULTS: Extracts of Syzygium Operculatus(87%),Astilbe Rivularis(83%) and Mallotus Philippnensis(88%) showed significant free radical scavenging activity with effective concentration(EC50) close to that of ascorbic acid. Syzygium Operculatus(96%),Astilbe Rivularis(97%) and Mallotus Philippnensis(97%) had potent reducing power in concentration dependent fashion. Those plant extract with higher free radical scavenging and ferric reducing effect also showed the greater content of both phenols and flavonoids, suggesting the correlation between polyphenolic content and antioxidant activity. Those plant extracts which showed better antioxidant activity assays, also demonstrated higher total phenol and flavonoid contents. | 6 | Chemical composition,antioxidant and antibacterial activities of essential oil and methanol extract of Artemisia vulgaris and Gaultheria fragrantissima collected from Nepal显示文摘Objective: To identify the chemical constituents and biological activities of essential oil and crude methanol extract of Artemisia vulgaris(A.vulgaris) and Gaultheria fragrantissima(G.fragrantissima).Methods: Phytochemical screening, total phenolic and flavonoid content, antibacterial activities, anti-oxidant assay of the crude extract were carried out to identify the biological activities and phytonutrients present in the extract.Furthermore, the chemical constituents present in the essential oil and crude methanol extract were analyzed using gas chromatography mass spectroscopy and high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) analysis.Results: Gas chromatography mass spectroscopy analysis of essential oil from the aerial part of A.vulgaris revealed 24 different compounds in it.Sabinene(11.29%), b-thujone(19.19%), chrysanthenone(4.48%), camphor(11.89%), borneol(4.44%) and germacrene D(8.42%) were the major compounds.Similarly, leaves of G.fragrantissima contained methyl salicylate(95%) and asarone(4.64%).Furthermore, methanol extract of leaves of A.vulgaris and G.fragrantissima were found rich in the total flavonoids and phenolic content.HPLC analysis of the methanol extract of leaves A.vulgaris revealed the presence of morin and luteolin, whereas rutin was found as a major flavonoids compound in the leaves of G.fragrantissima.Further, methanol extract of the A.vulgaris and G.fragrantissima showed the highest antioxidant and antibacterial properties compared to the essential oil.Conclusions: The HPLC analysis of the methanol extract of A.vulgaris shows the presence of luteolin and morin, whereas G.fragrantissima reveals the presence of rutin and a glycosylated flavonoids.Results reveal that A.vulgaris oil is the rich source of monoterpene and sesquiterpene compounds.Furthermore, A.vulgaris and G.fragrantissima are the rich source of the phenolic and flavonoids compounds and show good antioxidant and antibacterial activity. | Bishnu Prasad Pandey Rupak Thapa Anil Upreti | 2017 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2017,10,10: | 8 |

| 8 | Carbon Dioxide and Nitrous Oxide Emissions from Naturally Occurring Sulfate-Based Saline Soils at Different Moisture Contents显示文摘Soil salinization may negatively affect microbial processes related to carbon dioxide(CO_2) and nitrous oxide(N_2O) emissions. A short-term laboratory incubation experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of soil electrical conductivity(EC) and moisture content on CO_2 and N_2O emissions from sulfate-based natural saline soils. Three separate 100-m long transects were established along the salinity gradient on a salt-affected agricultural field at Mooreton, North Dakota, USA. Surface soils were collected from four equally spaced sampling positions within each transect, at the depths of 0–15 and 15–30 cm. In the laboratory, artificial soil cores were formed combining soils from both the depths in each transect, and incubated at 60% and 90% water-filled pore space(WFPS) at 25?C. The measured depth-weighted EC of the saturated paste extract(EC_e) across the sampling positions ranged from 0.43 to 4.65 dS m^(-1). Potential nitrogen(N) mineralization rate and CO_2 emissions decreased with increasing soil EC_e, but the relative decline in soil CO_2 emissions with increasing ECe was smaller at 60% WFPS than at 90% WFPS. At 60% WFPS, soil N_2O emissions decreased from 133 μg N_2O-N kg^(-1) soil at EC_e < 0.50 dS m^(-1) to 72 μg N_2O-N kg^(-1) soil at EC_e = 4.65 dS m^(-1). In contrast, at 90% WFPS,soil N_2O emissions increased from 262 μg N_2O-N kg^(-1) soil at EC_e = 0.81 dS m^(-1) to 849 μg N_2O-N kg^(-1) soil at EC_e = 4.65 dS m^(-1), suggesting that N_2O emissions were linked to both soil ECe and moisture content. | 9 | Saline-Sodic Soils:Potential Sources of Nitrous Oxide and Carbon Dioxide Emissions?显示文摘Increasing salt-affected agricultural land due to low precipitation,high surface evaporation,irrigation with saline water,and poor cultural practices has triggered the interest to understand the influence of salt on nitrous oxide(N_2O) and carbon dioxide(CO_2)emissions from soil.Three soils with varying electrical conductivity of saturated paste extract(EC_e)(0.44-7.20 dS m^(-1)) and sodium adsorption ratio of saturated paste extract(SARe)(1.0-27.7),two saline-sodic soils(S2 and S3) and a non-saline,non-sodic soil(S1),were incubated at moisture levels of 40%,60%,and 80%water-filled pore space(WFPS) for 30 d,with or without nitrogen(N)fertilizer addition(urea at 525 μg g^(-1) soil).Evolving CO_2 and N2 O were estimated by analyzing the collected gas samples during the incubation period.Across all moisture and N levels,the cumulative N_2O emissions increased significantly by 39.8%and 42.4%in S2 and S3,respectively,compared to S1.The cumulative CO_2 emission from the three soils did not differ significantly as a result of the complex interactions of salinity and sodicity.Moisture had no significant effect on N_2O emissions,but cumulative CO_2 emissions increased significantly with an increase in moisture.Addition of N significantly increased cumulative N_2O and CO_2 emissions.These showed that saline-sodic soils can be a significant contributor of N_2O to the environment compared to non-saline,non-sodic soils.The application of N fertilizer,irrigation,and precipitation may potentially increase greenhouse gas(N2O and CO_2) releases from saline-sodic soils. | Upasana GHOSH Resham THAPA Thomas DESUTTER HE Yangbo Amitava CHATTERJEE | 2017 | Pedosphere2017,27,1: | 5 |

| 14 | Is laser photocoagulation still effective in diabetic macular edema? Assessment with optical coherence tomography in Nepal显示文摘AIM: To find out the outcome of laser photocoagulation in clinically significant macular edema (CSME) by optical coherence tomography (OCT). · METHODS: It was a prospective, non-controlled, case series study enrolling 81 eyes of 64 patients with CSME between August 2008 and January 2010. All patients received modified grid photocoagulation with frequency doubled Nd: YAG laser. Each patient was evaluated in terms of best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and regression or progression of maculopathy after laser therapy at 1, 3 and 6 months. Spearman's correlation test was used to show the correlation between BCVA and total macular volume (TMV). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare among groups and independent t-test was used to compare in each group. · RESULTS: There is high correlation between BCVA and TMV (P ≤0.001). BCVA improved in 50.6%, remained static in 39.5 % and deteriorated in 9.9% patients after 6 month of treatment. The Baseline TMV (mean and SD) were 9.26±1.83, 10.4±2.38, 11.5±3.05, 8.89±0.75 and 9.47±1.98 mm3 for different OCT patterns, ST (sponge like thickening), CMO (cystoid macular edema), SFD (subfoveal detachment), VMIA (Vitreo macular interface abnormality) and average TMV respectively (P =0.04). After 6 months of laser treatment, the mean TMV decreased from 9.47±1.98mm3 to 8.77±1.31mm3(P =0.01). In ST there was significant decrease in TMV, P =0.01, Further within these groups at 6 months, they were significantly different, P =0.01. · CONCLUSION: OCT showed the different morphological variant of CSME while the response of treatment is different. TMV decreased the most and hence showed the improvement in vision after 6 months of laser treatment. | 19 | Probabilistic seismic hazard analysis in Nepal显示文摘The seismic ground motion hazard for Nepal has been estimated using a probabilistic approach.A catalogue of earthquakes has been compiled for Nepal and the surrounding region(latitude 26°N and 31.7°N and longitude 79°E and 90°E)from 1255 to 2011.The distribution of catalogued earthquakes,together with available geological and tectonic information were used to delineate twenty-three seismic source zones in Nepal and the surrounding region.By using the seismic source information and probabilistic earthquake hazard parameters in conjunction with a selected ground motion prediction relationship,peak ground accelerations(PGAs)have been calculated at bedrock level with 63%,10%,and 2%probability of exceedance in 50 years.The estimated PGA values are in the range of 0.07–0.16 g,0.21–0.62 g,and 0.38–1.1 g for 63%,10%,and 2%probability of exceedance in 50 years,respectively.The resulting ground motion maps show different characteristics of PGA distribution,i.e.,high hazard in the far-western and eastern sections,and low hazard in southern Nepal.The quantified PGA values at bedrock level provide information for microzonation studies in different parts of the country. | Thapa Dilli Ram Wang Guoxin | 2013 | Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2013,12,4: | 2 |
| 20 | 3D与2D腹腔镜胃旁路手术的手术时间与术者主观评价比较显示文摘背景与目的:肥胖发病率正在以'令人担忧'的速度快速增长,已成为严重威胁人类健康的重大问题。腹腔镜胃旁路手术是最常见的减肥手术之一。随着技术与设备的发展,3D腹腔镜成像系统逐步踏入普外科手术领域,三维立体图像弥补了传统2D腹腔镜成像系统缺乏纵深感、立体解剖描述不足的劣势,为主刀医师提供更加清晰的手术视野,使手术变得更加精细,一定程度上降低了难度。3D腹腔镜作为腹腔镜技术的重大革新,在胃旁路手术方面的应用却鲜有报道,与2D腹腔镜比较的优劣情况尚不明了。本研究通过单中心随机对照研究,探讨3D腹腔镜在胃旁路手术中的优势及应用价值。方法:选择中国医科大学附属第四医院2017年8月—2019年3月减重患者60例,随机分为两组,每组各30例,分别行2D腹腔镜胃旁路手术(2D组)与3D腹腔镜胃旁路手术(3D组)。比较两组完成各手术步骤(建立胃小囊、胃肠吻合及肠肠吻合)的用时及总体用时,采用调查问卷方式就术者对两组手术的镜下可操作性及舒适度行主观问卷评分。结果:两组患者术前一般资料无统计学差异(均P>0.05)。与2D组比较,3D组除胃小囊建立时间上无统计学差异外(P=0.120),胃肠吻合时间(P=0.015)、肠肠吻合时间(P=0.012)及手术总用时(P=0.023)均明显缩短。术者对3D腹腔镜下的精准性、层面感、纵深感主观评分以及眼部疲乏感、颈部疲乏感的主观评分均明显优于2D腹腔镜(均P<0.05)。结论:与2D腹腔镜比较,3D腹腔镜可显著缩短胃旁路手术的手术用时,有效的提高了术者操作的舒适度,具有良好的应用前景。 | Thapa Dil Momin 王墨飞 周勇 王勇 刘金钢 | 2020 | 中国普通外科杂志2020,29,6: | 2 |
