| 1 | Resveratrol inhibits matrix metalloproteinases to attenuate neuronal damage in cerebral ischemia:a molecular docking study exploring possible neuroprotection显示文摘The main pathophysiology of cerebral ischemia is the structural alteration in the neurovascular unit, coinciding with neurovascular matrix degradation. Resveratrol has been reported to be one of the most potent chemopreventive agents that can inhibit cellular processes associated with ischemic stroke. Matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs) has been considered as a potential drug target for the treatment of cerebral ischemia. To explore this, we tried to investigate the interaction of resveratrol with MMPs through molecular docking studies. At 30 minutes before and 2 hours after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion induced by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery, 40 mg/kg resveratrol was intraperitoneally administered. After resveratrol administration, neurological function and brain edema were significantly alleviated, cerebral infarct volume was significantly reduced, and nitrite and malondialdehyde levels in the cortical and striatal regions were significantly decreased. The molecular docking study of resveratrol and MMPs revealed that resveratrol occupied the active site of MMP-2 and MMP-9. The binding energy of the complexes was –37.848672 k J/mol and –36.6345 k J/mol for MMP-2 and MMP-9, respectively. In case of MMP-2, Leu 164, Ala 165 and Thr 227 were engaged in H-Bonding with resveratrol and in case of MMP-9, H-bonding was found with Glu 402, Ala 417 and Arg 424 residues. | 4 | Comparative performance analysis of combinedcycle pulse detonation turbofan engines (PDTEs)显示文摘Combined-cycle pulse detonation engines are promising contenders for hypersonic propulsion systems.In the present study,design and propulsive performance analysis of combined-cycle pulse detonation turbofan engines(PDTEs)is presented.Analysis is done with respect to Mach number at two consecutive modes of operation:(1)Combined-cycle PDTE using a pulse detonation afterburner mode(PDA-mode)and(2)combined-cycle PDTE in pulse detonation ramjet engine mode(PDRE-mode).The performance of combined-cycle PDTEs is compared with baseline afterbuming turbofan and ramjet engines.The comparison of afterburning modes is done for Mach numbers from 0 to 3 at 15.24 km altitude conditions,while that of pulse detonation ramjet engine(PDRE)is done for Mach 1.5 to Mach 6 at 18.3 km altitude conditions.The analysis shows that the propulsive performance of a tubine engine can be greatly improved by replacing the conventional afterbumer with a pulse detonation afterburner(PDA).The PDRE also outperforms its ramjet counterpart at all flight conditions considered herein.The gains obtained are outstanding for both the combined-cycle PDTE modes compared to baseline turbofan and ramjet engines. | Sudip Bhattrai Hao Tangn | 2013 | Propulsion and Power Research2013,2,3: | 7 |

| 7 | Effect of pouring temperature on cooling slope casting of semi-solid Al-Si-Mg alloy显示文摘Present trend of semi-solid processing is directed towards rheocasting route which allows manufacturing of near-net-shape cast components directly from the prepared semi-solid slurry. Generation of globular equi-axed grains during solidification of rheocast components, compared to the columnar dendritic structure of conventional casting routes, facilitates the manufacturing of components with improved mechanical properties and structural integrity. In the present investigation, a cooling slope has been designed and indigenously fabricated to produce semi solid slurry of Al-Si-Mg (A356) alloy and successively cast in a metallic mould. The scope of the present work discusses about development of a numerical model to simulate the liquid metal flow through cooling slope using Eulerian two-phase flow approach and to investigate the effect of pouring temperature on cooling slope semi-solid slurry generation process. The two phases considered in the present model are liquid metal and air. Solid fraction evolution of the solidifying melt is tracked at different locations of the cooling slope, following Schiel s equation. The continuity equation, momentum equation and energy equation are solved considering thin wall boundary condition approach. During solidification of the liquid metal, a modified temperature recovery scheme has been employed taking care of the latent heat release and change of fraction of liquid. | 9 | Piroxicam-mediated modulatory action of 5-hydroxytryptamine serves as a “brake” on neuronal excitability in ischemic stroke显示文摘Our previous studies indicated an increase in extracellular γ-aminobutyric acid(GABA) in rodent's ischemic brain after Piroxicam administration, leading to alleviation of glutamate mediated excitotoxicity through activation of type A GABA receptor(GABAA). This study was to investigate if GABAA activation by Piroxicam affects extracellular 5-hydroxytryptamine or not. High performance liquid chromatography revealed that there was a significant decrease in extracellular 5-hydroxytryptamine release in ischemic cerebral cortex and striatum in Piroxicam pre-treated rat brains. | 10 | Effect of pioglitazone on nerve conduction velocity of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel in type 2 diabetes patients显示文摘AIM To evaluate the impact of pioglitazone pharmacotherapy in median nerve electrophysiology in the carpal tunnel among type 2 diabetes patients.METHODS The study was executed in patients with type 2 diabetes, treated with oral drugs, categorized under pioglitazone or non-pioglitazone group(14 in each group), and who received electrophysiological evaluation by nerve conduction velocity at baseline and 3 mo.RESULTS At 3 mo, pioglitazone-category had inferior amplitude in sensory median nerve [8.5 interquartile range(IQR) = 6.5 to 11.5) vs non-pioglitazone 14.5(IQR 10.5 to 18.75)](P = 0.002). Non-pioglitazone category displayed amelioration in amplitude in the sensory median nerve [baseline 13(IQR = 9 to 16.25) vs 3 mo 8.5(IQR = 6.5 to 11.5)](P = 0.01) and amplitude in motor median nerve [baseline 9(IQR = 4.75 to 11) vs 3 mo 6.75(IQR = 4.75 to 10.25)](P = 0.049); and deterioration of terminal latency of in motor ulnar nerve [baseline 2.07(IQR = 1.92 to 2.25) vs 3 mo 2.16(IQR = 1.97 to 2.325)](P = 0.043). There was amelioration of terminal latency in sensory ulnar nerve [baseline 2.45(IQR = 2.315 to 2.88) vs 3 mo 2.37(IQR = 2.275 to 2.445) for pioglitazone group(P = 0.038).CONCLUSION Treatment with pioglitazone accentuates probability of compressive neuropathy. In spite of comparable glycemic control over 3 mo, patients treated with pioglitazone showed superior electrophysiological parameters for the ulnar nerve. | 11 | Molecular dynamics study on growth of carbon dioxide and methane hydrate from a seed crystal显示文摘In the current work,molecular dynamics simulation is employed to understand the intrinsic growth of carbon dioxide and methane hydrate starting from a seed crystal of methane and carbon dioxide respectively.This comparison was carried out because it has relevance to the recovery of methane gas from natural gas hydrate reservoirs by simultaneously sequestering a greenhouse gas like CO2.The seed crystal of carbon dioxide and methane hydrate was allowed to grow from a super-saturated mixture of carbon dioxide or methane molecules in water respectively.Two different concentrations(1:6 and 1:8.5)of CO2/CH4 molecules per water molecule were chosen based on gas–water composition in hydrate phase.The molecular level growth as a function of time was investigated by all atomistic molecular dynamics simulation under suitable temperature and pressure range which was well above the hydrate stability zone to ensure significantly faster growth kinetics.The concentration of CO2 molecules in water played a significant role in growth kinetics,and it was observed that maximizing the CO2 concentration in the aqueous phase may not result in faster growth of CO2 hydrate.On the contrary,methane hydrate growth was independent of methane molecule concentration in the aqueous phase.We have validated our results by performing experimental work on carbon dioxide hydrate where it was seen that under conditions appropriate for liquid CO2,the growth for carbon dioxide hydrate was very slow in the beginning. | Prajakta Nakate Bappa Ghosh Subhadip Das Sudip Roy Rajnish Kumar | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2019,27,9: | 2 |

| 13 | Evaluation of rapid molecular diagnostics for differentiating medicinal Kaempferia species from its adulterants显示文摘Accurate detection of unique herbs is crucial for herbal medicine preparation. Zingiberaceae species, which are important in Ayurvedic medicine of India, are often misidentified in Northeast (NE) Indian herbal markets. Kaempferia galanga (Zingiberaceae) is one of the major components of popular Ayurvedic drugs used for rheumatic diseases (i.e.,“Gandha Thailam” and “Rasnairandadi Kashayam”), contusions, fractures, and sprains. In NE India, herbal healers often misidentify plants from the Marantaceae family (e.g., Calathea bachemiana and Maranta leuconeura) as Kaempferia, which leads to adulteration of the medicinal herb. This misidentification of herbs occurs in NE India because Zingiberaceae plant barcoding information is inadequate. As a consequence, herbal medicine is not only therapeutically less effective but may also cause adverse reactions that range from mild to life-threatening. In this study, we used eight barcoding loci to develop “fingerprints” for four Kaempferia species and two species frequently mistaken for Kaempferia. The PCR and sequencing success of the loci matK, rbcL and trnH-psbA were found to be 100%;the combination of matK, rbcL, and trnH-psbA proved to be the ideal locus for discriminating the Kaempferia species from their adulterants because the combined loci showed greater variability than individual loci. | 14 | Nitration of Jharia basin coals,India:a study of structural modifications by XRD and FTIR techniques显示文摘Four coal samples from Jharia basin,India are treated with nitric acid in glacial acetic acid and aqueous media to find out the chemical,petrographic and spatial structure of the organic mass by X-ray diffraction(XRD)and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR)techniques.X-ray parameters of coal like interlayer spacing(d_(002)),crystallite size(L_(c)),aroamticity(f_(a)),average number of aromatic layers(N_(c)),and coal rank(I_(26)/I_(20))have been determined using profilefitting software.Considerable variation is observed in treated coals in comparison to the demineralized coals.The d_(002)values of treated coals have increased in both the media showing increase in disordering of organic moieties.A linear relationship has been observed between d_(002)values with the volatile matter of the coals.Similarly,the d_(002)values show linear relationship with C_(dmf) contents for demineralized as well as for the treated coals in both the media.The L_(c) and N_(c) values have decreased in treated coals corresponding to demineralized coals.The present study shows that nitration in both the media is capable of removing the aliphatic side chains from the coals and aromaticity(f_(a))increases with increase in rank and shows a linear relationship with the vitrinite reflectance.The corresponding I_(26)/I_(20)values are least for treated coals in glacial acetic acid medium followed by raw and then to treated coals in aqueous medium.FTIR studies show that coal arenes of the raw coals are converted into nitro-arenes in structurally modified coals(SMCs)in both the media,the corresponding bands at 1550-1490 and 1355-1315 cm^(-1) respectively.FTIR study confirms that nitration is the predominant phenomenon,though,oxidation and nitration phenomena takes place simultaneously during treatment with nitric acid to form SMCs.In comparison to raw coals,the SMCs show higher aromaticity and may be easily converted to coal derived products like activated carbon and specialty carbon materials. | Prabal Boral Atul K.Varma Sudip Maity | 2021 | International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2021,8,5: | 2 |
| 15 | Timing of metamorphism and deformation in the Swat valley, northern Pakistan:Insight into garnet-monazite HREE partitioning显示文摘New metamorphic petrology and geochronology from the Loe Sar dome in the Swat region of northern Pakistan place refined constraints on the pressure, temperature and timing of metamorphism and deformation in that part of the Himalayan orogen. Thermodynamic modelling and monazite petrochronology indicate that metamorphism in the area followed a prograde evolution from ~525 ± 25 ℃and 6 士 0.5 kbar to ~610 ± 25 ℃ and 9 士 0.5 kbar, between ca. 39 Ma and 28 Ma. Partitioning of heavy rare earth elements between garnet rims and 30-28 Ma monazite are interpreted to indicate coeval crystallization at peak conditions. Microtextural relationships indicate that garnet rim growth post-dated the development of the main foliation in the area. The regional foliation is folded about large-scale N-S trending fold axes and overprinting E-W trending folds to form km-scale domal culminations. The textural relationships observed indicate that final dome development must be younger than the 30-28 Ma monazite that grew with garnet rims post-regional foliation development, but pre-doming-related deformation. This new timing constraint helps resolve discrepancy between previous interpretations,which have alternately suggested that N-S trending regional folds must be either pre-or post-early Oligocene.
