| 2 | Tuning the particle size and morphology of high energetic material nanocrystals显示文摘Morphology controlled synthesis of nanoparticles of powerful high energetic compounds(HECs) such as l,3,5-trinitro-l,3,5-triazinane(RDX) and 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-l,3,5,7-tetrazocane(HMX) were achieved by a simple solvent—antisolvent interaction(SAI) method at 70 ℃.The effects of different solvents on particle size and morphology of the prepared nano-HECs were studied systematically.Particle size and morphology of the nano-HECs was characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) imaging.X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy studies revealed that RDX and HMX were precipitated in their most stable polymorphic forms,i.e.a and P,respectively.Thermogravimetric analysis coupled with differential scanning calorimetry(TGA-DSC) studies showed that the thermal response of the nanoparticles was similar to the respective raw-HECs.HEC nanoparticles with spherical and rod shaped morphology were observed under different solvent conditions.The mean particle size also varied considerably with the use of different solvents. | Raj KUMAR Prem Felix SIRIL Pramod SONI | 2015 | Defence Technology(防务技术)2015，11，4： | 7 |
| 3 | Treatment-related gastrointestinal toxicities and advanced colorectal or pancreatic cancer:A critical update显示文摘Gastrointestinal toxicities(GIT), including oral mucositis,nausea and vomiting, and diarrhea, are common side effects of chemotherapy and targeted agents in patients with advanced colorectal cancer and pancreatic cancer. Being often underreported, it is still difficult to precisely establish their burden in terms of both patient's quality of life and cancer care costs. Moreover, with the use of more intensive upfront combination regimens, the frequency of these toxicities is rapidly growing with a potential negative effect also on patient's outcome, as a result of dose reductions, delays or even discontinuation of active treatments. Thus, identifying patients at higher risk of developing GIT as well as an optimal management are paramount in order to improve patient's compliance and outcome. After the description of the main treatment-induced GIT, we discuss the current knowledge on the pathophysiology of these side effects and comment the scales commonly used to assess and grade them. | 5 | Microscopic colitis:A large retrospective analysis from a health maintenance organization experience显示文摘AIM:To examine the demographic data on a large multi-ethnic population of patients with microscopic colitis (MC) in Southern California and to determine the association of MC with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer.METHODS: All patients diagnosed with MC by colonic biopsy from 1996-2005 were identified utilizing a pathology database. All biopsies were reviewed by experienced pathologists utilizing standard histologic criteria. Patients' medical records were reviewed and data regarding patient age, co-morbidities, sex, ethnicity, and medications were analyzed. An age-and sexmatched standard control group was also generated. Chi-square test was used to evaluate the associations of co-morbidities between lymphocytic colitis (LC), collagenous colitis (CC) and the control group.RESULTS: A total of 547 cases of MC were identif ied,376 patients with LC and 171 patients with CC. The female/male ratio was 3:1 in CC and 2.7:1 in LC patients. Celiac disease (P<0.001), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) (P<0.001), and thyroid diseases (P<0.001) were found to have a higher occurrence in MC compared to the control group. No statistical differences in the occurrence of colorectal cancer, diabetes and IBD were found between the MC group and the control group.CONCLUSION: This is the largest group of patients with MC known to the authors that has been studied to date. Conditions such as celiac disease, IBS, and thyroid diseases were found to be related to MC. Upconversion as well as downconversion luminescence studies were performed by using near infrared(980 nm) and ultraviolet(380 nm) excitations. Energy level diagram, pump power dependence and colour coordinate study were utilized to describe the multicolor upconversion emission properties. Under single 980 nm diode laser excitation the dual mode sensing behaviour is realized via Stark sublevels and thermally coupled energy levels of the Tm3+ and Er^(3+) ions in the prepared tri-doped phosphors. A comparative fluorescence intensity ratio analysis for integrated emission intensities arising from the Stark sublevels {~1 G_(4(a)) and ~1 G_(4(b))} and thermally coupled energy levels {~2 H_(11/2) and 4 S3/2} of the Tm3+ and Er3+ ions, respectively was carried out in the prepared tri-doped BaMoO_4 phosphors. The maximum sensitivity for thermally coupled energy levels of the Er3+ and Stark sublevels of the Tm3+ ion was reported. | 9 | Florid reactive periostitis ossificans of the humerus: Case report and differential diagnosis of periosteal lesions of long bones显示文摘A case of florid reactive periostitis ossificans(RPO) arising in a long bone is presented. This is a rare bone proliferation with a pronounced periosteal reaction. Less than 100 cases have been described in the literature with far fewer outside the bones of the hand, feet, fingers, and toes. Although the etiology is unknown, a relationship to preceding trauma is suggested. The imaging and histologic features show an overlap with other bone lesions including bizarre parosteal osteochondromatous proliferation, subungual exostosis, and malignant surface tumors of bone and cartilage which include, periosteal and parosteal osteosarcoma. It is important to recognize the clinical presentation and diagnostic features of RPO as a benign entity so that it is not mistaken for a more aggressive neoplasm. We present a case of a right distal humeral lesion that on histopathological review revealed florid RPO. This diagnosis was not suspected on imaging studies, but was made on open biopsy of the mass. The patient remains disease free, years postoperatively. | 14 | Phytochemical, Anti-oxidant, Larvicidal, and Antimicrobial Activities of Castor(Ricinus communis) Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles显示文摘Objective Castor possesses the medicinal properties. Hence, castor extract has the reducing power agent was used in nanoparticles synthesis. Extract of castor also produces secondary metabolites(phenolics, reducing agent) and exhibits anti-oxidant property, which was used as larvicide and antimicrobial agent. In the present study the silver nanoparticles(Ag NPs) were synthesized using aqueous leaf extract of castor. Methods The synthesized Ag NPs were characterized with UV-visible spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy(TEM). The phenolics, reducing sugar and total sugar were evaluated performing Folin-Ciocalteu reagent method, DNS method and Phenol-sulphuric acid method. Anti-oxidant activity of synthesized nanoparticles was evaluated using DPPH assay. The larvicidal activity of synthesized Ag NPs was evaluated against the third instar of Anopheles stephensi and Aedes aegypti. The mortality was observed after 24 h by probit analysis. Further, the antimicrobial activity was reported against Staphylococcus aureus(Gram positive) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa(Gram negative). Results The UV spectra showed maximum absorbance at 445 nm and TEM analysis indicated spherical shape of nanoparticles with average size of 8.96 nm. The synthesized nanoparticles also possessed anti-oxidant potentials. Thus, it could be used as potential free radical scavenger. The larvae of A. stephensi were found more susceptible to Ag NPs than larvae of A. aegypti.
