1Flood Resilience Building in Thailand: Assessing Progress and the Effect of Leadership显示文摘Disaster risk reduction has become a global strategy for making cities more resilient since the establishment of the Hyogo Framework for Action in 2005. The question that still challenges emergency management scholars and professionals, however, is what contributes to the progress of resilience building. Previous literature suggests that disaster resilience can be attributable to multiple factors, including leadership. But the specific abilities that help leaders promote resilience have not yet been examined empirically. To address this problem, using the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction 10 Essentials for Making Cities Resilient as guidelines, we assessed the progress of flood resilience building in Thailand and its relationship to local government leaders' abilities. Our research showed that, since the flood disaster in 2011, municipalities in Thailand have made moderate progress in flood resilience building. The results of a multiple regression analysis revealed that disaster resilience leadership abilities have had a statistically significant, positive effect on the progress of flood resilience building. Our findings underscore the role of leadership in making cities more resilient and shed light on how local government leaders can contribute to the progress ofdisaster risk reduction. 8Microbial contamination of multiple-dose preservative-free hospital ophthalmic preparations in a tertiary care hospital显示文摘Background:It is possible that preservative-free eye drops can be contaminated.The aim of this study was to assess the incidence of microbial contamination of preservative-free hospital-prepared anti-infective eye drops and investigate factors that contribute to contamination.This finding may help to raise awareness of this problem to medical healthcare staff and patients in order to prevent the transmission of microorganisms from eye drops to the patients through treatment of pre-existing eye diseases.Methods:Two hundred and ninety-five eye drop bottles were collected from patients attending Rajavithi Hospital Ophthalmologic outpatient and inpatient department,including both those used by patients at home and those administered in the hospital by medical staff.Samples were taken from the tips of droppers and bottles,and the residual fluid inside the bottles was then cultivated onto different culture plates.The culture results were identified and analyzed according to various factors related to both individual users and the bottles.Results:Seven different types of eye drops were collected and 71(24.06%)of the 295 bottles were contaminated.Vancomycin eye drops were the most contaminated.Twenty-six different types of pathogens were identified,most frequently mold(42.98%),and the amount of contamination was higher in tips than in residual fluid inside the bottle.There was no statistically significant difference in contamination between patients used eye drops collected in outpatient units(32.14%)and medical staff used eye drops collected in inpatient settings(23.22%).The only factor that was statistically significant was the number of eye drops used per person.We found that samples from patients who used only up to 2 eye drops suffered contamination(42.8%)more than those from their counterparts who used at least 3(22.18%),P¼0.02.Conclusions:Of these preservative-free hospital preparations anti-infective eye drops,24.06%were contaminated.The number of eye drops used per person was statistically significant in triggering contamination.There is a possibility of number of eyedrops use person may trigger contamination.Somporn Chantra Pinyada Hathaisaard Andrzej Grzybowski Paisan Ruamviboonsuk 2022Advances in Ophthalmology Practice and Research2022,2,1:1

15Contrasting compositions of PM_(2.5)in Northern Thailand during La Nina(2017)and El Nino(2019)years显示文摘There have been a very limited number of systematic studies on PM_(2.5)compositions and their source contribution in Southeast Asia.This study aims to explore the characteristics of PM_(2.5)composition collected in Chiang Mai(Thailand)during La Nina and El Nino years and to apportion their sources during smoke haze and non-haze periods.The average PM_(2.5)concentration of smoke haze episode in 2019(El Nino)was much higher than in 2017(La Nina).The ratios of organic carbon(OC)to elemental carbon(EC),as well as K(biomass burning(BB)tracer)to PM_(2.5),were higher during smoke haze episodes in 2019 than in 2017 indicating a significant influence from BB.The ratios of secondary organic carbon(SOC)levels to primary organic carbon(POC)levels during smoke haze episodes were higher than those in non-haze period,which indicated greater SOC contributions or more photo-oxidation of precursors in haze episodes with high ambient temperatures.However,the ratios of soil markers(Ca and Mg)during non-haze period were high implying that soil source contributed more to PM_(2.5)concentrations when there less BB occurred.The positive Matrix Factorization(PMF)model revealed that the source of BB,characterized by high K fractions,was the largest contributor during smoke haze episodes accounting for 50%(2017)and 79%(2019).Climate conditions influence meteorological patterns,particularly during incidences of extreme weather such as droughts,which affect the scale and frequency of open burning and thus air pollution levels.Pavidarin Kraisitnitikul Duangduean Thepnuan Sarana Chansuebsri Nuttipon Yabueng Wan Wiriya Supattarachai Saksakulkrai Zongbo Shi Somporn Chantara 2024Journal of Environmental Sciences2024,,1:0
