| 1 | Effects of natural covers on soil evaporation of the shelterbelt along the Tarim Desert Highway显示文摘The control of soil evaporation is one of important approaches to save water. The artificially simulated evaporation experiments have been conducted in the hinterland of the Taklimakan Desert to reveal the effects of the natural covers on the soil evaporation of the Tarim Desert Highway shelterbelt as well as provide some insights in the efficient utilization of water resources and optimization of irrigation systems. The results showed that (1) All the covers, including the sand deposit, the salt crust, the litter, the sand-litter mixed layer and so on, can significantly inhibit the soil water evaporation. Specifically, the daily evaporation, the total evaporation, and the evaporation rate in covered sands were much smaller than that of sands without cover. The cover inhibition effects increased with the cover thickness. Particularly, the soil evaporation of the covered sands was less affected by external and internal factors than that of the bare sands. Moreover, the variation of daily evaporation of covered sands was smaller than that of bare sands. The cumulative evaporation varied linearly with time in the covered sands whereas it varied logarithmically in the bare sands. In addition, the soil evaporation in the bare sands showed significantly different characteristics in the early and late stages of the evaporation. (2) All the covers exhibited the significant inhibiting effect on the soil evaporation, and the inhibition efficiency increased logarithmically with the cover thickness. However, as the cover thickness was above a certain value, the increase in the inhibition efficiency was slow. Particularly, at a cover thickness of 2 cm, there was no obvious difference in the inhibition efficiency among all kinds of covers. | 2 | Detached-eddy Simulation for Time-dependent Turbulent Cavitating Flows显示文摘The Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS),such as the original k-ω two-equation closures,have been very popular in providing good prediction for a wide variety of flows with presently available computational resource.But for cavitating flows,the above equations noticeably over-predict turbulent production and hence effective viscosity.In this paper,the detached eddy simulation(DES) method for time-dependent turbulent cavitating flows is investigated.To assess the state-of-the-art of computational capabilities,different turbulence models including the widely used RANS model and DES model are conducted.Firstly,in order to investigate the grid dependency in computations,different grid sizes are adopted in the computation.Furthermore,the credibility of DES model is supported by the unsteady cavitating flows over a 2D hydrofoil.The results show that the DES model can effectively reduce the eddy viscosities.From the experimental validations regarding the force analysis,frequency and the unsteady cavity visualizations,more favorable agreement with experimental visualizations and measurements are obtained by DES model.DES model is better able to capture unsteady phenomena including cavity length and the resulting hydrodynamic characteristics,reproduces the time-averaged velocity quantitatively around the hydrofoil,and yields more acceptable and unsteady dynamics features.The DES model has shown to be effective in improving the overall predictive capability of unsteady cavitating flows. | HUANG Biao WANG Guoyu YU Zhiyi SHI Shuguo | 2012 | Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2012,25,3: | 10 |
| 3 | The salt accumulation at the shifting aeolian sandy soil surface with high salinity groundwater drip irrigation in the hinterland of the Taklimakan Desert显示文摘The EC analysis and water serial sampling was performed in the Tarim Desert Highway shelterbelt to explore the water and salt dynamics of the shallow aeolian sandy soil ( 0-30cm) under high salinity groundwater drip irrigation. It was found that in one irrigation cycle, the EC of the shallow shifting aeolian sandy soil ( 0-30cm) increased while the water content decreased. The EC of the surface aeolian sandy soil at the wetting front was far greater than that of the wetting area or the outside of the wetting area. During the irrigation cycle, the EC of the wetting front and the wetting area changed at a significant magnitude, whereas the EC of the outside of the wetting area remained largely steady. The horizontal influence distance of drip irrigation on the salt accumulation at the soil surface was about 100 cm, and the vertical influence depth was 5 cm. The three most abundant ions in the accumulated salt at the aeolian sandy soil surface were Na+, Cl- and SO42-. | 4 | Leaf choice in black-and-white snub-nosed monkeys Rhinopithecus bieti is related to the physical and chemical properties of leaves显示文摘To understand the effects of the chemical and physical properties of plant leaves on food choice in Rhinopithecus bieti,we collected mature leaves of nine food and five non-food plant species at the southernmost part of the species's range.Chemical properties such as fat, ash, crude protein (CP), total phenolics (TP), and fiber content including neutral detergent fiber(NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), lignin, celluloses and hemicelluloses, and physical toughness were measured. R. bieti tendedto choose leaves with lower fiber content, higher ash, a higher ratio of CP/ADF, and lower toughness. No difference was foundfor fat, crude protein, total phenolics, hemicelluloses and lignin between food and non-food leaves. Even though the ratio ofCP/ADF is generally regarded as a good indicator for colobine food choice, the difference in the ratio of CP/ADF between foodand non-food leaves was only the result of differences in ADF. | 6 | Effect of the shelterbelt along the Tarim Desert Highway on air temperature and humidity显示文摘The temperature and humidity of the shelterbelt micro-climate on both horizontal and vertical scales in the extremely drought area were measured with multiple HOBO temperature and humidity automatic observation equipments in the hinterland of the Taklimakan Desert. The results show that the shelterbelt ecosystem of the desert highway plays typical micro-climate adjustment rolesin stabilizing surface air temperature and increasing air humidity, and so on. Solar radiation significantly affects both temperature and humidity of surface layers, and it has a positive correlation with the temperature but a negative correlation with the air humidity. When it is cloudy, the weather has a great impact on keeping temperature and humidity in the shelterbelt. The shelterbelt also significantly influences the environment, and the micro-climate in the belt has an obvious characteristic of cooling and humidification: compared with the original sand area, the temperature in the shelterbelt is always lower and the humidity is always higher. Moreover, the temperature range at the shelterbelt edge is greater than that in the sand area, but the humidity is always higher. | 8 | Method for Caution Values Calculation of Dissolved Gases in Transformers Based on Statistical Distribution and Correlation Analysis显示文摘Before diagnosed by DGA (dissolved gas analysis) methods, gas caution values, which index the level of gas formation, must be used to evaluate the possibility of incipient faults to reduce the misdiagnosis in the normal state. However, the calculation of these values is now only based on cumulative percentile method without taking into account operating conditions. To overcome this disadvantage, a new approach to calculate the transformer caution values is presented. This approach is based on statistical distribution and correlation analysis, and it takes the individual variation and fluctuation caused by internal and external factors into consideration. Then 6550 transformer DGA data collected from North China Power Grid are analyzed in this paper. The results show that the volume fraction of TH (total hydrocarbon) approximately obeys normal distribution when the 3-sigma rule is used to calculate its caution value. The volume fraction of CO has a strong positive correlation with oil temperature. For H2, the negative correlation with oil temperature is significant when the volume fraction is not very low. The caution value curves for CO and H2 are obtained by regression analyses. Thus, the gas caution values/curves obtained using the new method are not always constant, but vary with oil temperature, which is an advantage of the proposed method compared with cumulative percentile method. Third order simplified Volterra model is adopted to analyze receiver EMS. A general criterion for EMS is proposed according to EMS response characteristics in frequency domain, and then the simulation flow charts for calculating susceptibility thresholds are given. This approach is superior to the previous EMS analysis method on receiver, which mainly relies on experiments but lack simulation analysis.
