| 7 | Modulation format identification in fiber communications using single dynamical node-based photonic reservoir computing显示文摘We present a simple approach based on photonic reservoir computing(P-RC)for modulation format identification(MFI)in optical fiber communications.Here an optically injected semiconductor laser with self-delay feedback is trained with the representative features from the asynchronous amplitude histograms of modulation signals.Numerical simulations are conducted for three widely used modulation formats(on–off keying,differential phase-shift keying,and quadrature amplitude modulation)for various transmission situations where the optical signal-to-noise ratio varies from 12 to 26 d B,the chromatic dispersion varies from-500 to 500 ps/nm,and the differential group delay varies from 0 to 20 ps.Under these situations,final simulation results demonstrate that this technique can efficiently identify all those modulation formats with an accuracy of>95%after optimizing the control parameters of the P-RC layer such as the injection strength,feedback strength,bias current,and frequency detuning.The proposed technique utilizes very simple devices and thus offers a resource-efficient alternative approach to MFI. | QIANG CAI YA GUO PU LI ADONIS BOGRIS KALAN SHORE YAMEI ZHANG YUNCAI WANG | 2021 | Photonics Research2021，9，1： | 2 |

| 10 | Treatment repurposing for inflammatory bowel disease using literature-related discovery and innovation显示文摘Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)incidence has been increasing steadily,most dramatically in the Western developed countries.Treatment often includes lifelong immunosuppressive therapy and surgery.There is a critical need to reduce the burden of IBD and to discover medical therapies with better efficacy and fewer potential side-effects.Repurposing of treatments originally studied in other diseases with similar pathogenesis is less costly and time intensive than de novo drug discovery.This study used a treatment repurposing methodology,the literature-related discovery and innovation(LRDI)text mining system,to identify potential treatments(developed for non-IBD diseases)with sufficient promise for extrapolation to treatment of IBD.By searching for desirable patterns of twenty key biomarkers relevant to IBD(e.g.,inflammation,reactive oxygen species,autophagy,barrier function),the LRDI-based query retrieved approximately 9500 records from Medline.The most recent 350 records were further analyzed for proof-of-concept.Approximately 18%(64/350)met the criteria for discovery(not previously studied in IBD human or animal models)and relevance for application to IBD treatment.Many of the treatments were compounds derived from herbal remedies,and the majority of treatments were being studied in cancer,diabetes,and central nervous system disease,such as depression and dementia.As further validation of the search strategy,the query identified ten treatments that have just recently begun testing in IBD models in the last three years.Literature-related discovery and innovation text mining contains a unique search strategy with tremendous potential to identify treatments for repurposing.A more comprehensive query with additional key biomarkers would have retrieved many thousands more records,further increasing the yield of IBD treatment repurposing discovery. | Ronald Neil Kostoff Michael Brandon Briggs Darla Roye Shores | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020，26，33： | 2 |

| 12 | Ultrafast and real-time physical random bit extraction with all-optical quantization显示文摘Optical chaos generated by perturbing semiconductor lasers has been viewed,over recent decades,as an excellent entropy source for fast physical random bit generation(RBG)owing to its high bandwidth and large random fluctuations.However,most optical-chaos-based random bit generators perform their quantization process in the electrical domain using electrical analog-to-digital converters,so their real-time rates in a single channel are severely limited at the level of Gb/s due to the electronic bottleneck.Here,we propose and experimentally demonstrate an all-optical method for RBG where chaotic pulses are quantized into a physical random bit stream in the all-optical domain by means of a length of highly nonlinear fiber.In our proof-of-concept experiment,a 10-Gb/s random bit stream is successfully generated on-line using our method.Note that the single-channel real-time rate is limited only by the chaos bandwidth.Considering that the Kerr nonlinearity of silica fiber with an ultrafast response of few femtoseconds is exploited for composing the key part of quantizing laser chaos,this scheme thus may operate potentially at much higher real-time rates than 100 Gb/s provided that a chaotic entropy source of sufficient bandwidth is available. | Ya Guo Qiang Cai Pu Li Ruonan Zhang Bingjie Xu K.Alan Shore Yuncai Wang | 2022 | Advanced Photonics2022，4，3： | 2 |
