| 2 | Effect of ladle outlet geometry on internal porosity in gravity casting automotive brackets: An experimental investigation显示文摘This study investigated whether the pouring ladle's outlet shape could reduce the porosity of aluminum alloy casting products and whether it could be applied to mass production of automotive brackets based on computer simulations and experiment.The filling behaviors of the melt were simulated to compare the flow characteristics of the molten metal poured from the conventional ladle and the proposed ladle.Results show that for the conventional ladle,the pouring metal is V-shaped,while it is relatively circular and poured at a more constant rate in the proposed ladle.CT scans reveal that the proposed ladle reduces the porosity of the cast product.The proposed ladle resulted in an average of 30 fewer pores,a 299.56 mm3 smaller average total pore volume,and a 0.041% lower difference in average porosity.It is concludes that the proposed ladle can be used in the gravity casting process.By changing the ladle outlet shape can reduce the casting failure rate of massproduced automobile bracket. | Jaehoon Choi Hoyoung Hwang Shinill Kang | 2020 | China Foundry2020,17,1: | 2 |
| 3 | Novel technique for anastomotic salvage using transanal minimally invasive surgery:A case report显示文摘Anastomotic leak(AL)after low anterior resection(LAR)can be a highly morbid complication.The incidence of AL ranges from 5%to 20%depending on patient characteristics and the distance of the anastomosis from the anal verge.Low anastomoses and leaks pose technical challenges for endoscopic treatment.The aim of this report was to describe the use of a commercially available laparoscopic energy device through a transanal minimally invasive surgery(TAMIS)port for the management of a symptomatic leak not requiring relaparotomy(grade B)after a LAR with diverting loop ileostomy.CASE SUMMARY A TAMIS GelPOINT Path port was inserted into the anus to access the distal rectum.Pneumorectum was achieved with AirSeal insufflation and a 30 degree laparoscope was introduced through a trocar.A LigaSureTM Retractable L-Hook device was then used to perform a septotomy of the chronic sinus tract identified posterior to the coloproctostomy.The procedure was then repeated twice in three weeks intervals with ultimate resolution of the chronic leak cavity.Several months after serial TAMIS septotomies,barium enema demonstrated a patent anastomosis with no evidence of persistent leak or stricture.The patient subsequently underwent ileostomy reversal and has had no significant postoperative issues.CONCLUSION TAMIS septotomy with the LigaSureTM Retractable L-Hook is a feasible and effective,minimally invasive salvage technique for the treatment of grade B ALs.Larger studies are needed to assess the generalizability and long-term results of this technique. | Oscar A Olavarria Robert L Kress Shinil K Shah Amit K Agarwal | 2019 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2019,11,5: | 2 |

| 12 | A metallic anti-biofouling surface with a hierarchical topography containing nanostructures on curved micro-riblets显示文摘Metallic surface finishes have been used in the anti-biofouling,but it is very difficult to produce surfaces with hierarchically ordered structures.In the present study,anti-biofouling metallic surfaces with nanostructures superimposed on curved micro-riblets were produced via top-down fabrication.According to the attachment theory,these surfaces feature few attachment points for organisms,the nanostructures prevent the attachment of bacteria and algal zoospores,while the micro-riblets prohibit the settlement of macrofoulers.Anodic oxidation was performed to induce superhydrophilicity.It forms a hydration layer on the surface,which physically blocks foulant adsorption along with the anti-biofouling topography.We characterized the surfaces via scanning electron and atomic force microscopy,contact-angle measurement,and wear-resistance testing.The contact angle of the hierarchical structures was less than 1°.Laboratory settlement assays verified that bacterial attachment was dramatically reduced by the nanostructures and/or the hydration layer,attributable to superhydrophilicity.The micro-riblets prohibited the settlement of macrofoulers.Over 77 days of static immersion in the sea during summer,the metallic surface showed significantly less biofouling compared to a surface painted with an anticorrosive coating. | Taekyung Kim Sunmok Kwon Jeehyeon Lee Joon Sang Lee Shinill Kang | 2022 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2022,8,1: | 1 |
| 13 | Massively parallel direct writing of nanoapertures using multi-optical probes and super-resolution near-fields显示文摘Laser direct-writing enables micro and nanoscale patterning,and is thus widely used for cutting-edge research and industrial applications.Various nanolithography methods,such as near-field,plasmonic,and scanning-probe lithography,are gaining increasing attention because they enable fabrication of high-resolution nanopatterns that are much smaller than the wavelength of light.However,conventional methods are limited by low throughput and scalability,and tend to use electron beams or focused-ion beams to create nanostructures.In this study,we developed a procedure for massively parallel direct writing of nanoapertures using a multi-optical probe system and superresolution near-fields.A glass micro-Fresnel zone plate array,which is an ultra-precision far-field optical system,was designed and fabricated as the multi-optical probe system.As a chalcogenide phase-change material(PCM),multiple layers of Sb_(65)Se_(35) were used to generate the super-resolution near-field effect.A nanoaperture was fabricated through direct laser writing on a large-area(200×200mm^(2))multi-layered PCM.A photoresist nanopattern was fabricated on an 8-inch wafer via near-field nanolithography using the developed nanoaperture and an i-line commercial exposure system.Unlike other methods,this technique allows high-throughput large-area nanolithography and overcomes the gap-control issue between the probe array and the patterning surface. | Changsu Park Soobin Hwang Donghyun Kim Nahyun Won Runjia Han Seonghyeon Jeon Wooyoung Shim Jiseok Lim Chulmin Joo Shinill Kang | 2022 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2022,8,5: | 0 |
| 14 | Progenitor cells as remote 'bioreactors': Neuroprotection via modulation of the systemic inflammatory response显示文摘Acute central nervous system(CNS)injuries such as spinal cord injury,traumatic brain injury,autoimmune encephalomyelitis,and ischemic stroke are associ- ated with significant morbidity,mortality,and health care costs worldwide.Preliminary research has shown potential neuroprotection associated with adult tissue derived stem/progenitor cell based therapies.While initial research indicated that engraftment and transdif- ferentiation into neural cells could explain the observed benefit,the exact mechanism remains controversial.A second hypothesis details localized stem/progenitor cell engraftment with alteration of the loco-regional milieu;however,the limited rate of cell engraftment makes this theory less likely.There is a growing amount of pre-clinical data supporting the idea that,after intravenous injection,stem/progenitor cells interact with immuno- logic cells located in organ systems distant to the CNS,thereby altering the systemic immunologic/inflammatory response.Such distant cell'bioreactors'could modulate the observed post-injury pro-inflammatory environment and lead to neuroprotection.In this review,we discuss the current literature detailing the above mechanisms of action for adult stem/progenitor cell based therapies in the CNS. | Peter A Walker Phillip A Letourneau Supinder Bedi Shinil K Shah Fernando Jimenez Charles S Cox Jr | 2011 | World Journal of Stem Cells2011,3,2: | 0 |
