2Characteristics of sedimentation and channel adjustment linked to the Three Gorges Reservoir显示文摘Construction of large dams is attractive because of their great benefits in flood control,hydropower generation,water resources utilization,navigation improvement,etc.However,dam construction may bring some negative impacts on sediment transport and channel dynamics adjustments.Due to the effects of recent water and soil conservation projects,sediment retention in the newly constructed large upstream reservoirs,and other factors,the sedimentation in the Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR)is quite different from the amount previously predicted in the demonstration stage.Consequently,based on the measured data,characteristics of sedimentation and the related channel deformation in the TGR were analyzed.The results imply that sediment transport tended to be reduced after the Three Gorges Project(TGP).Sedimentation slowed dramatically after 2013 and indicated obvious seasonal characteristics.Due to the rising water level in the TGR in the flood season,the yearly sediment export ratio(Eratio)was prone to decrease.The water level near the dam site should be reasonably regulated according to the flow discharge to improve the sediment delivery capacity and reduce sedimentation in the TGR,and to try to avoid situations where the flood retention time is close to 444 h.The depositional belt was discontinuous in the TGR and was mainly distributed in the broad reaches,and only slight erosion or deposition occurred in the gorge reaches.Sedimentation in the broad and gorge reaches accounted for 93.8% and 6.2% of the total sedimentation,respectively.The estuarine reach located in the fluctuating backwater area experienced alternate erosion-deposition,with a slight accumulative deposition in the curved reach.Sedimentation mainly occurred in the perennial backwater area.The insight gained in this study can be conducive to directly understanding of large reservoir sedimentation and mechanism of channel adjustment in the reservoir region in the main channel of large river.Xiaoya Tang Sichen Tong Guoxian Huang Guangxiang Xu Xinghua Li Kun Lei Shiming Yao 2021International Journal of Sediment Research2021,36,2:3
3LOWER DOSE OF AMINOGLYCOSIDE OTOTOXIC EXPOSURE CAUSES PRESYNAPTIC ALTERATIONS ASSOICATED WITH HEARING LOSS显示文摘Objective To study presynaptic alternations of cochlear ribbons arising from aminoglycoside ototoxic stimuli in C57BL/6J mice. Methods Animals were injected with low dose gentamicin(100 mg/kg/day) for14 days, From the 14 th to 28 th days, the mice were maintained free of gentamicin treatment. Immunohistochemistry labeling was employed to trace RIBEYE, a major presynaptic componment of ribbon synapses.RIBEYE/CtBP2 expression levels were assessed and compared with hearing threshold shifts. Auditory function was assessed by auditory brainstem responses. The stereocilia of outer hair cells(OHCs) and IHCs was examined by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Results Hearing thresholds were elevated with peak hearing loss observed on the 7th day after gentamicin exposure, followed by improvement after the 7th day.RIBEYE/CtBP2 expression directly correlated with observed hearing threshold shifts. Strikingly, we did not see any obvious changes in stereocilia in both OHCs and IHCs until the 28 th day. Mild changes in stereocilia were only observed in OHCs on the 28 th day. Conclusions These findings indicate that presynapse cochlear ribbons, rather than stereocilia, may be sensitive to aminoglycoside ototoxic exposure in mice cochleae. 4Nitrogen addition and mowing alter drought resistance and recovery of grassland communities显示文摘Nitrogen enrichment and land use are known to influence various ecosystems,but how these anthropogenic changes influence community and ecosystem responses to disturbance remains poorly understood.Here we investigated the effects of increased nitrogen input and mowing on the resistance and recovery of temperate semiarid grassland experiencing a three-year drought.Nitrogen addition increased grassland biomass recovery but decreased structural recovery after drought,whereas annual mowing increased grassland biomass recovery and structural recovery but reduced structural resistance to drought.The treatment effects on community biomass/structural resistance and recovery were largely modulated by the stability of the dominant species and asynchronous dynamics among species,and the community biomass resistance and recovery were also greatly driven by the stability of grasses.Community biomass resistance/recovery in response to drought was positively associated with its corresponding structural stability.Our study provides important experimental evidence that both nitrogen addition and mowing could substantially change grassland stability in both functional and structural aspects.Our findings emphasize the need to study changes across levels of ecological organization for a more complete understanding of ecosystem responses to disturbances under widespread environmental changes.Zhuwen Xu Heyong Liu Yani Meng Jinfei Yin Haiyan Ren Mai-He Li Shan Yang Shiming Tang Yong Jiang Lin Jiang 2023Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,7:2

14Evolution of Asian drying since 30 Ma revealed by clay minerals record in the West Pacific and its tectonic-climatic forcing显示文摘As the second largest dust source on the globe,the tectonic and climatic evolution of continental Asia has an important impact on regional and global climate change.The West Pacific is the main sediment sink for eolian dust transported eastward from the Asian interior.Clay minerals,as the major fine-grained weathering products of continental rocks,can be readily transported by wind or currents over long distances and thus have been widely used in the reconstruction of paleoclimate and weathering history.However,the overall evolutionary tendency and response mechanism of clay mineral records over large spatial and long timescales across Asia remain unclear.Here,two continuous and high-resolution clay mineral records since 30 Ma were reconstructed from sediments at Deep Sea Drilling Program(DSDP)Sites 292 and 296 in the Philippine Sea.Clay minerals and Sr-Nd isotope compositions were used to constrain provenance and reconstruct the drying history of the dust source region since the Oligocene.The results show that the clay-sized detrital sediments in the Philippine Sea are a mixture of Asian eolian dust and volcanic materials from the West Pacific arcs.Based on the clay mineral compositions and eolian flux,we reveal that the Asian interior has been continuously drying since the late Oligocene and that stepwise enhanced aridification occurred at approximately 20,14,7,and 3 Ma.Compared with other regions of the world,the relative contents of illite and chlorite increased more dramatically in Asia during the late Cenozoic,and the inconsistency became more obvious at approximately 20 Ma.Since 3 Ma,illite and chlorite have increased consistently across the globe.Combined with the Asian tectonic and climatic history,we suggest that the increase in illite and chlorite from Asia between 20 and 3 Ma was mainly in response to the uplift of the Himalayan-Tibetan Plateau,whereas after 3 Ma,it was primarily controlled by global cooling driven by the expansion of the Arctic ice sheet.Yi TANG Shiming WAN Debo ZHAO Zhaojie YU Zhaokai XU Jin ZHANG Zehua SONG Mengjun LI Hualong JIN Wenjun JIAO Hongkun DONG Anchun LI 2023Science China Earth Sciences2023,66,6:0
15Origin of the hydrate bound gases in the Juhugeng Sag, Muli Basin, Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The Juhugeng Sag,located in northwest of the Muli Basin,Tibetan Plateau,has been investigated for coal and petroleum resources during the past several decades.There have been successful recoveries of gas hydrates during recent years from the Middle Jurassic Yaojie Formation that offer insight into the origin of the hydrocarbon gases from the complex sag feature.This study examines the organic geochemical and stable carbon isotopic characteristics of shale and coal samples from the Middle Jurassic Yaojie Formation of the Juhugeng Sag,as well as compares with carbon isotopes,gas amounts and components of hydrate-bound gas.A total of 19 samples from surface mining,including 12 samples of black shale and 7 samples of coal,were analysed using a micro-photometer,a gas chromatograph,Rock–Eval and isotope methods.All the shale samples contained 100%type I kerogen,and the random vitrinite reflectance values vary from 0.65%to 1.32%and achieve thermal pyrolysis phase.Isotope values of methane(δ13C ranging from−52.6‰to−39.5‰andδD ranging from−285‰to−227‰)in the hydrate bound gases suggest that the methane originates mainly from thermogenic contributions.It is proposed that ethane from the gas hydrate is thermogenic-produced,and this conjecture is supported by the fact that most of the gas hydrate also contains more than 30%of thermogenic C2+hydrocarbons and is similar to structure II hydrate.Carbon isotope data from the gas hydrates show a positive carbon isotope series(δ13C1<δ13C2<δ13C3),with ethaneδ13C values being lighter than−28.5‰,as high consistency with source rocks from the Jurassic period indicate thermal oil-prone gas.A model of the accumulation of gas hydrate is plotted.However,the gaseous sources of gas hydrates may be a subject for more research.Shiming Liu Furong Tan Ting Huo Shuheng Tang Weixiao Zhao Haide Chao 2020International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2020,7,1:0
16Screening of Extraction Methods for Protein from Potato Tubers显示文摘[Objectives]This study was conducted to screen different extraction methods for protein from potato tubers.[Methods]The bud eye,lateral and pith parts of Qingshu 168 and Kexin 1 were used as test materials,and were extracted by acetone extraction,trichloroacetic acid(TCA)extraction,salt extraction,alcohol extraction and phenol extraction,respectively.The protein contents of different parts were determined by spectrophotometry.A 2-factor randomized block design was used to study the effects of varieties,extraction methods,sampling parts and combinations of different factors on protein content.[Results]The protein contents of different varieties were different,and Qingshu 168 was significantly higher than Kexin 1(P<0.05),reaching 128.0 mg/L.The protein contents obtained by different extraction methods were different.Acetone extraction,salt extraction and TCA extraction showed no significant differences in the protein content,but they were significantly higher than phenol extraction and alcohol extraction(P<0.05).The protein contents obtained by the former three were in the range of153.3-159.7 mg/L.The protein content in the bud eye part of potato tubers was significantly higher than those in the lateral and pith parts(P<0.05),reaching140.7 mg/L.There were significant differences among different combinations of varieties,extraction methods and sampling parts(P<0.05).The comprehensive comparison showed that the salt extraction method was suitable for the bud eye part of Qingshu 168,and the TCA extraction method was suitable for the bud eye part of Kexin No.1.[Conclusions]This study provides a reference for potato protein extraction and further research.Shiming TANG Junmai CAO Yanyun CHEN Yulong MA 2022Agricultural Biotechnology2022,11,3:0

19Cellularmetabolism: A key player in cancer ferroptosis显示文摘Cellular metabolism is the fundamental process by which cells maintain growth and self-renewal.It produces energy,furnishes raw materials,and intermedi-ates for biomolecule synthesis,and modulates enzyme activity to sustain normal cellular functions.Cellular metabolism is the foundation of cellular life processes and plays a regulatory role in various biological functions,including pro-grammed cell death.Ferroptosis is a recently discovered form of iron-dependent programmed cell death.The inhibition of ferroptosis plays a crucial role in tumorigenesis and tumor progression.However,the role of cellular metabolism,particularly glucose and amino acid metabolism,in cancer ferroptosis is not well understood.Here,we reviewed glucose,lipid,amino acid,iron and sele-nium metabolism involvement in cancer cell ferroptosis to elucidate the impact of different metabolic pathways on this process.Additionally,we provided a detailed overview of agents used to induce cancer ferroptosis.We explained that the metabolism of tumor cells plays a crucial role in maintaining intracellu-lar redox homeostasis and that disrupting the normal metabolic processes in these cells renders them more susceptible to iron-induced cell death,resulting in enhanced tumor cell killing.The combination of ferroptosis inducers and cel-lular metabolism inhibitors may be a novel approach to future cancer therapy and an important strategy to advance the development of treatments.Xianjie Jiang Qiu Peng Mingjing Peng Linda Oyang Honghan Wang Qiang Liu Xuemeng Xu Nayiyuan Wu Shiming Tan Wenjuan Yang Yaqian Han Jinguan Lin Longzheng Xia Yanyan Tang Xia Luo Jie Dai Yujuan Zhou Qianjin Liao 2024Cancer Communications2024,44,2:0
20Hypoglycemic effects of naturally processed Polygonum multiflorum extract in KK CgAy/J mice and its mechanism of action显示文摘In 2021,there are approximately 537 million adults ageing 20-79 years affected by diabetes worldwide and the number is rising rapidly,hence it is important to manage and control diabetes mellitus and its associated complications.Food is one of the key factors in preventing and combating diseases such as diabetes.Both as a food and an herbal medicine,Polygonum multiflorum(PM)has been used as an anti-aging tonic,for hair darkening in traditional Chinese medicine for several centuries.The recent research effort of PM has been focused on antioxidant,anti-ageing and anti-tumor properties.In the present study,we utilized the traditional processing of harvested raw PM,and identified several stilbene components and then evaluated the potential anti-diabetic effects of the processed PM extract(PME).PME(0.075%)was given to diabetic mice(KK CgAy/J)in drinking water and after 7 weeks,PME-treated mice had significantly lower glucose levels than mice in the diabetic control group(P<0.01).The mechanism was explored with ELISA and Western blotting and results suggested that the effect was through maintainingβ-cell function.Wenping Tang Jianfeng Zhan Shiming Li Yue Liu Chi-Tang Ho 2022Food Science and Human Wellness2022,11,5:0
