1Evolution of the South China Sea and monsoon history revealed in deep-sea records显示文摘As the third summary report of ODP Leg 184 to the South China Sea (SCS), this paper discusses the evolution of the East Asian monsoon and the SCS basin. A multi-proxy approach, involving geochemistry, micropaleontology, pollen and other analyses, was adopted for reconstructing the evolutionary history of the East Asian monsoon, which was characterized by a series of paleo-climate events especially at 8, 3.2, 2.2 and 0.4 Ma. The new record indicates similar stages in the development of the East and South Asian monsoons, with an enhanced winter monsoon over East Asia being the major difference. The rich spectrums of monsoon variability from the southern SCS also reveal other characteristic features of the low latitude ocean. Evidence for the evolution of the SCS includes the hemipelagic Oligocene sediments, implying the existence of deep water environments during the early seafloor spreading stage of the SCS basin. The four major unconformities and some remarkable diagenetic features in upper Oligocene deposits indicate the strongest tectonic events in the region. 2China Argo project:progress in China Argo ocean observations and data applications显示文摘This paper reviews the current achievements of the China Argo project. It considers aspects of both the construction of the Argo observing array, float technology, and the quality control and sharing of its data. The developments of associated data products and data applications for use in the fields of ocean, atmosphere, and climate research are discussed, particularly those related to tropical cyclones(typhoons), ocean circulation,mesoscale eddies, turbulence, oceanic heat/salt storage and transportation, water masses, and operational oceanic/atmospheric/climatic forecasts and predictions. 3Different Expression Analysis in Fruit Softening and Ethylene Biosynthetic Pathways in Peaches of Different Flesh Textures显示文摘The aim of our study was to assess differences in the expression of genes involved in fruit softening and ethylene biosynthetic pathways under different temperature storage conditions. Different peach cultivars of ‘Xiacui' and ‘Yumyeong', which are stonyhard, ‘Yinhualu', which is softmelting, ‘Hujing Milu', which is hard-melting, and ‘Baby Gold 6', which is non-melting at 80% ripening, were collected as test materials. The results showed that only slight ethylene production was detected after harvesting of ‘Yumyeong' and ‘Xiacui' under either a room temperature(25 °C) or low temperature(4 °C). The fruit firmness of stonyhard cultivars was retained at a high level under room temperature over time, whereas a low temperature induced ‘Yumyeong' fruit to soften. Quantitative real-time PCR results indicated that the PpACS1 gene was highly expressed in soft-melting, hard-melting and non-melting cultivars; however, expression was extremely low in stonyhard peaches. PpACS2 or PpACS3, however,was not detected in all five cultivars. Interestingly, cold treatment significantly decreased firmness along with endo-PG expression obviously upregulated in ‘Yumyeong', but not in ‘Xiacui' peaches. 4Free vascularized fibular grafting for treatment of old femoral neck fractures显示文摘The internal fixation failure for treatment of femoral neck fracture is mainly due to improper fixation, loss of fixation stability and premature ambulation. Bone nonunion and avascular osteonecrosis of the femoral head caused by the internal fixation failure for femoral neck fracture are always the complex topics in orthopedics. With regard to patients who sustain these complications, total hip arthroplasty is a proper choice for elderly patients, but is not acceptable by young patients. We report nine patients with the failure of internal fixation for femoral neck fracture who were treated with free vascularized fibular grafting and internal fixation with cannulated screw from November 2001 to October 2003. 5Differentiation of embryonic versus adult rat neural stem cells into dopaminergic neurons in vitro显示文摘BACKGROUND:It has been reported that the conversion of neural stem cells into dopaminergic neurons in vitro can be increased through specific cytokine combinations. Such neural stem cell-derived dopaminergic neurons could be used for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. However, little is known about the differences in dopaminergic differentiation between neural stem cells derived from adult and embryonic rats. OBJECTIVE: To study the ability of rat adult and embryonic-derived neural stem cells to differentiate into dopaminergic neurons in vitro. DESIGN: Randomized grouping design. SETTING: Department of Neurosurgery in the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. MATERIALS: This experiment was performed at the Surgical Laboratory in the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou, Guangdong, China) from June to December 2007. Eight, adult, male, Sprague Dawley rats and eight, pregnant, Sprague Dawley rats (embryonic day 14 or 15) were provided by the Experimental Animal Center of Sun Yat-sen University. METHODS: Neural stem cells derived from adult and embryonic rats were respectively cultivated in serum-free culture medium containing epidermal growth factor and basic fibroblast growth factor. After passaging, neural stem cells were differentiated in medium containing interleukin-1α, interleukin-11, human leukemia inhibition factor, and glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor. Six days later, cells were analyzed by immunocytochemistry and flow cytometry. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Alterations in cellular morphology after differentiation of neural stem cells derived from adult and embryonic rats; and percentage of tyrosine hydroxylase-positive neurons in the differentiated cells. RESULTS: Neural stem cells derived from adult and embryonic rats were cultivated in differentiation medium. Six days later, differentiated cells were immunoreactive for tyrosine hydroxylase. The percentage of tyrosine hydroxylase positive neurons was (5.6 ± 2.8)% and (17.8 ± 4.2)% for adult and embryonic cells, respectively, with a significant difference between the groups (P < 0.01). 6Does an extended mediastinal lymphadenectomy improve outcome after R0 resection in lung cancer?显示文摘Objective: This retrospective study was conducted to investigate the impact of more extended mediastinal lymphadenectomy on the outcome of lung cancer patients treated with R0 resection.Methods: During the investigation period, 325 lung cancer cases were enlisted and 278 cases entered the analysis. The patients were divided into Control group(n=116) and Research group(n=162) according to the different extents of mediastinal lymph node clearance at different time periods. Three major parameters were retrospectively assessed to compare the quality of surgical care: extent of lymph node clearance, resection volume, and postoperative recovery process and common complications. Comparison of the outcome between two groups was carried out.Results: Research group showed a significant quality improvement of lymphadenectomy, such as more mediastinal node stations investigated(more than 3 N2 stations investigated: Research group, 90.7% vs. Control group, 55.2%; P=0.001) and more nodes collection(total nodes 26.1±10.0 vs. 19.1±8.3, P=0.000; N2 nodes 15.5±7.2 vs. 9.8±5.6, P=0.000). However, overall survival(OS) and disease-free survival(DFS) were not significantly different either between two groups(5-year OS: Control group, 56.4±4.6% vs. Research group, 62.6±4.3%; P=0.271) or between subgroups from stage I to IIIa. 7Toward Understanding the Extreme Floods over Yangtze River Valley in June−July 2020:Role of Tropical Oceans显示文摘The extreme floods in the Middle/Lower Yangtze River Valley(MLYRV)during June−July 2020 caused more than 170 billion Chinese Yuan direct economic losses.Here,we examine the key features related to this extreme event and explore relative contributions of SST anomalies in different tropical oceans.Our results reveal that the extreme floods over the MLYRV were tightly related to a strong anomalous anticyclone persisting over the western North Pacific,which brought tropical warm moisture northward that converged over the MLYRV.In addition,despite the absence of a strong El Niño in 2019/2020 winter,the mean SST anomaly in the tropical Indian Ocean during June−July 2020 reached its highest value over the last 40 years,and 43%(57%)of it is attributed to the multi-decadal warming trend(interannual variability).Based on the NUIST CFS1.0 model that successfully predicted the wet conditions over the MLYRV in summer 2020 initiated from 1 March 2020(albeit the magnitude of the predicted precipitation was only about one-seventh of the observed),sensitivity experiment results suggest that the warm SST condition in the Indian Ocean played a dominant role in generating the extreme floods,compared to the contributions of SST anomalies in the Maritime Continent,central and eastern equatorial Pacific,and North Atlantic.Furthermore,both the multi-decadal warming trend and the interannual variability of the Indian Ocean SSTs had positive impacts on the extreme floods.Our results imply that the strong multi-decadal warming trend in the Indian Ocean needs to be taken into consideration for the prediction/projection of summer extreme floods over the MLYRV in the future.Shaolei TANG Jing-Jia LUO Jiaying HE Jiye WU Yu ZHOU Wushan YING 2021Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2021,38,12:4

9Ultrafine Sn_(4)P_(3)nanocrystals from chloride reduction on mechanically activated Na surface for sodium/lithium ion batteries显示文摘Nanostructured metal phosphides are very attractive materials in energy storage and conversion,but their applications are severely limited by complicated preparation steps,harsh conditions and large excess of highly toxic phosphorus source.Here we develop a highly efficient one-step method to synthesize Sn_(4)P_(3)nanostructure based on simultaneous reduction of SnCl_(4)and PCl_(3)on mechanically activated Na surface and in situ phosphorization.The low-toxic PCl3 displays a very high phosphorizing efficiency(100%).Furthermore,this simple method is powerful to control phosphide size.Ultrafine Sn_(4)P_(3)nanocrystals(<5 nm)supported on carbon sheets(Sn_(4)P_(3)/C)are obtained,which is due to the unique bottom-up surface-limited reaction.As the anode material for sodium/lithium ion batteries(SIBs/LIBs),the Sn_(4)P_(3)/C shows profound sodiation/lithiation extents,good phase-conversion reversibility,excellent rate performance and long cycling stability,retaining high capacities of 420 mAh/g for SIBs and 760 mAh/g for LIBs even after 400 cycles at 1.0 A/g.Combining simple and efficient preparation,low-toxic and high-efficiency phosphorus source and good control of nanosize,this method is very promising for low-cost and scalable preparation of high-performance Sn_(4)P_(3)anode.Zhiliang Liu Xiangxi Wang Zhuoyan Wu Sungjin Yang Shaolei Yang Shunpeng Chen Xinteng Wu Xinghua Chang Piaoping Yang Jie Zheng Xingguo Li 2020Nano Research2020,13,11:4

11Adjuvant chemotherapy may improve outcome of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer with metastasis of intrapulmonary lymph nodes after systematic dissection of N1 nodes显示文摘Objective: Survival benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy(AC) of patients with intrapulmonary lymph node(IPLN)metastasis(level 12-14) needs investigation.We evaluated the impact of AC on patients whose metastatic nodes were limited to intrapulmonary levels after systematic dissection of N1 nodes.Methods: First,155 consective cases of lung cancer confirmed as pathologic N1 were collected and evaluated.Patients received systematic dissection of N2 and N1 nodes.For patients with IPLN metastasis,survival outcomes were compared between those receiving AC and those not receiving AC.Results: In this group,112 cases(72.3%) had IPLN metastasis and 55 cases(35.5%) had N1 involvement limited to level 13-14 without further disease spread to higher levels.Patients with IPLN involvement had a better prognosis than that of patients with hilar-interlobar involvement.For the intrapulmonary N1 group(level 12-14-positive,level 10-11-negative or unknown,n=112),no survival benefit was found between the AC group and nonAC group [5-year overall survival(OS): 54.6±1.6 vs.50.4±2.4 months,P=0.177].However,76 of 112 cases for whom harvesting of level-10 and level-11 nodes was done did not show cancer involvement in pathology reports(level 12-14-positive,level 10-11 both negative),oncologic outcome was better for patients receiving AC than those not receiving AC in this subgroup(5-year OS: 57.3±1.5 vs.47.1±3.2 months,P=0.002).Conclusions: Oncologic outcome may be improved by AC for patients with involvement of N1 nodes limited to intrapulmonary levels after complete examination of N1 nodes.Xing Wang Shi Yan Yaqi Wang Xiang Li Chao Lyu Yuzhao Wang Jia Wang Shaolei Li Lijian Zhang Yue Yang Nan Wu 2018Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2018,30,6:2
12Geologic,Fluid Inclusion and Stable Isotope Constraints on Mechanisms of Ore Deposition at the Datuanshan Copper Deposit,Middle-Lower Yangtze Valley,Eastern China显示文摘The Datuanshan deposit is one of the largest and most representative stratabound copper deposits in the Tongling area,the largest ore district in the Middle-Lower Yangtze River metallogenic belt.The location of the orebodies is controlled by the interlayer-slipping faults between the Triassic and Permian strata,and all the orebodies are distributed in stratiform shape around the Mesozoic quartz monzodiorite dikes.Based on field evidence and petrographic observations,four mineralization stages in the Datuanshan deposit have been identified:the skarn,early quartz-sulfide,late quartzsulfide and carbonate stages.Chalcopytite is the main copper mineral and mainly formed at the late quartz-sulfide stage.Fluid inclusions at different stages were studied for petrography,microthermometry,laser Raman spectrometry and stable isotopes.Four types of fluid inclusions,including three-phase fluid inclusions(type 1),liquid-rich fluid inclusions(type 2),vapour-rich fluid inclusions(type 3) and pure vapour fluid inclusions(type 4),were observed.The minerals from the skarn,early and late quartz-sulfide stages contain all fluid inclusion types,but only type 2 fluid inclusions were observed at the carbonate stage.Petrographic observations suggest that most of the inclusions studied in this paper are likely primary.The coexistence of different types of fluid inclusions with contrasting homogenization characteristics(to the liquid and vapour phase,respectively) and similar homogenization temperatures(the modes are 440-480℃,380-400℃ and 280-320℃ for the skarn,early and late quartz-sulfide stages,respectively) in the first three stages,strongly suggests that three episodes of fluid boiling occurred during these stages,which is supported by the hydrogen isotope data.Laser Raman spectra identified CH_4 at the skarn and early quartz-sulfide stages.Combined with other geological features,the early ore-forming fluids were inferred to be under a relatively reduced environment.The CO_2 component has been identified at the late quartz-sulfide and carbonate stages,indicating that the late ore-forming fluids were under a relatively oxidized environment,probably as a result of inflow of and mixing with meteoric water.In addition,microthermometric results of fluid inclusions and H-O isotope data mdicate that the ore forming fluids were dominated by magmatic water in the early stages(skarn and early quartz-sulfide stages) and mixed with meteoric water in the late stages(late quartz-sulfide and carbonate stages).The evidence listed above suggests that the chalcopyrite deposition in the Datuanshan deposit probably resulted from the combination of multiepisode fluid boiling and mixing of magmatic and meteoric water.CAO Yi DU Yangsong PANG Zhenshan DU Yilun KOU Shaolei CHEN Linjie GAO Fuping ZHOU Guibi 2015Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2015,89,3:2
13An approach to visual analysis for task flow management显示文摘Efficient management of task flow plays an important role in prediction,planning,control and optimization of tasks.In this paper,according to major indicators to evaluate during task flow management such as time performance,resource allocation efficiency and executory costs we establish a task flow management oriented business model and analyze important operations performed in evaluation,analysis,and optimization of task flow.Based on the business model,in the view of problems from multi-source and heterogeneous data without standardized description,we define a unified data model to give a description for the massive and heterogeneous task flow data.Then we further demonstrate a complex task flow oriented visualization morphology design,with corresponding layout algorithm,and introduce the Focus + Context technique to assist users in analyzing task flows and making accurate decisions.Finally,we develop a task flow management oriented visual analysis prototype system,and apply it into medical process management.Experimental results show that this system can effectively support analysis and evaluation of execution progress,time performance,resource utilization,cost,etc.,which can improve efficiency of the task flow management and contribute to quick and accurate decision-making.TENG DongXing SONG ShaoLei YANG HaiYan MA CuiXia WANG HongAn DAI GuoZhong 2013Science China(Information Sciences)2013,56,5:2

15Using machine learning to improve the accuracy of genomic prediction of reproduction traits in pigs显示文摘Background:Recently,machine learning(ML)has become attractive in genomic prediction,but its superiority in genomic prediction over conventional(ss)GBLUP methods and the choice of optimal ML methods need to be investigated.Results:In this study,2566 Chinese Yorkshire pigs with reproduction trait records were genotyped with the GenoBaits Porcine SNP 50 K and PorcineSNP50 panels.Four ML methods,including support vector regression(SVR),kernel ridge regression(KRR),random forest(RF)and Adaboost.R2 were implemented.Through 20 replicates of fivefold cross-validation(CV)and one prediction for younger individuals,the utility of ML methods in genomic prediction was explored.In CV,compared with genomic BLUP(GBLUP),single-step GBLUP(ssGBLUP)and the Bayesian method BayesHE,ML methods significantly outperformed these conventional methods.ML methods improved the genomic prediction accuracy of GBLUP,ssGBLUP,and BayesHE by 19.3%,15.0% and 20.8%,respectively.In addition,ML methods yielded smaller mean squared error(MSE)and mean absolute error(MAE)in all scenarios.ssGBLUP yielded an improvement of 3.8% on average in accuracy compared to that of GBLUP,and the accuracy of BayesHE was close to that of GBLUP.In genomic prediction of younger individuals,RF and Adaboost.R2_KRR performed better than GBLUP and BayesHE,while ssGBLUP performed comparably with RF,and ssGBLUP yielded slightly higher accuracy and lower MSE than Adaboost.R2_KRR in the prediction of total number of piglets born,while for number of piglets born alive,Adaboost.R2_KRR performed significantly better than ssGBLUP.Among ML methods,Adaboost.R2_KRR consistently performed well in our study.Our findings also demonstrated that optimal hyperparameters are useful for ML methods.After tuning hyperparameters in CV and in predicting genomic outcomes of younger individuals,the average improvement was 14.3% and 21.8% over those using default hyperparameters,respectively.Conclusion:Our findings demonstrated that ML methods had better overall prediction performance than conventional genomic selection methods,and could be new options for genomic prediction.Among ML methods,Adaboost.R2_KRR consistently performed well in our study,and tuning hyperparameters is necessary for ML methods.The optimal hyperparameters depend on the character of traits,datasets etc.Xue Wang Shaolei Shi Guijiang Wang Wenxue Luo Xia Wei Ao Qiu Fei Luo Xiangdong Ding 2022Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2022,13,5:1
