1The role of dietary fibre in pig production,with a particular emphasis on reproduction显示文摘Fibres from a variety of sources are a common constituent of pig feeds. They provide a means to utilise locallyproduced plant materials which are often a by-product of the food or drink industry. The value of a high fibre diet in terms of producing satiety has long been recognised. However the addition of fibre can reduce feed intake, which is clearly detrimental during stages of the production cycle when nutrient needs are high, for example in growing piglets and during lactation. More recently, fibre has been found to promote novel benefits to pig production systems,particularly given the reduction in antimicrobial use world-wide, concern for the welfare of animals fed a restricted diet and the need to ensure that such systems are more environmentally friendly. For example, inclusion of dietary fibre can alter the gut microbiota in ways that could reduce the need for antibiotics, while controlled addition of certain fibre types may reduce nitrogen losses into the environment and so reduce the environmental cost of pig production.Of particular potential value is the opportunity to use crude fibre concentrates as 'functional' feed additives to improve young pig growth and welfare. Perhaps the greatest opportunity for the use of high fibre diets is to improve the reproductive efficiency of pigs. Increased dietary fibre before mating improves oocyte maturation, prenatal survival and litter size; providing a consumer-acceptable means of increasing the amount of saleable meat produced per sow. The mechanisms responsible for these beneficial effects remain to be elucidated. 2Evaluation of dry eye disease in newly diagnosed anxiety and depression patients using anterior segment optical coherence tomography显示文摘Background:We aimed to evaluate dry eye diseases(DED)in patients with newly diagnosed depression and anxiety patients.Methods:Forty newly diagnosed depression,35 anxiety patients,and 37 controls without any history of taking psychiatric drugs(or before the beginning of psychiatric medication)and topical ophthalmic drop use,were included in the study.All depression and anxiety diagnoses were performed by an experienced psychiatrist.Beck depression and anxiety tests were used to measure disease severity.Tear film break up time(TBUT),Schirmer’s test,Oxford scores and ocular surface disease index(OSDI)were admiinistered to participants.Anterior segment optical coherence tomography was used to measure tear meniscus heights(TMH),tear meniscus depths(TMD)and tear meniscus areas(TMA).Results:In anxiety and depression groups,Schirmer’s test(mm)(7.24±6.02,6.58±4.9 and 18.79±4.9 respectively,p<0.05)and TBUT(s)(5.62±3.1,5.6±3.5 and 13.37±1.7 respectively,p<0.05)were significantly lower than control group.In addition,OSDI and Oxford scores were significantly higher than controls.OSDI scores were 28.01±19,30.43±18.49,14.38±8.14 respectively(p=0.002)and Oxford scores were 1.9±0.7,2.1±0.6 and 0.7±0.4 respectively(p=0.001).TMD,TMH and TMA values were significantly lower in anxiety and depression groups compared with control groups.Correlations between disease inventory scores and dry eye tests were detected.Conclusions:This study showed a relation between DED and newly diagnosed anxiety and depression patients with no history of psychiatric drug use.The presence of correlation between dry eye tests and disease inventory scores strengthens this association.This is an important knowledge that need to be evaluated in these patients before starting psychiatric medication.Mahmut Oğuz Ulusoy Selen Işık-Ulusoy SertaçArgun Kıvanç 2019Eye and Vision2019,6,1:3
3Diagnostic and therapeutic potential of exosomal miRNAs in Alzheimer’s disease显示文摘Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a primary cause of dementia.AD is a neurodegenerative disorder,characterized by synapses loss,extracellular amyloid plaques composed of the amyloid-βpeptide(Aβ)and intracellular aggregates of hyperphosphorylated tau protein.AD is a complex disease linked to multiple interacting factors,both environmental and genetic,which can contribute to the onset and severity of the disease.Longitudinal studies have highlighted several cardiovascular risk factors that can increase the risk of AD.The genetic landscape of AD has changed dramatically in recent decades.Early studies identified mutations in the amyloid precursor protein gene(APP)as well as proteins that are involved in the enzymatic cleavage of APP to toxicβ-amyloid(Aβ),namely presenilin-1 and presnilin-2.However,these mutations were found in familial cases of early-onset AD,while the causes of sporadic late-onset AD are still unknown.The latest advances in Genomewide Association Studies(GWAS),sequencing,and bioinformatics have begun to unravel the complex genetic architecture of the sporadic form of AD.GWAS were able to uncover common variants with high frequency in the population that individually carried low risk(Robinson et al.,2017).The advent of next-generation and thirdgeneration sequencing platforms shows great promise in further unravelling the genetics of AD.Ida Manna Selene De Benedittis Enrico Iaccino Andrea Quattrone Aldo Quattrone 2021Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,11:3
4Modeling aggregate size distribution of eroded sediment resulting from rain-splash and raindrop impacted flow processes显示文摘Soil susceptibility to detachment and transport sub-processes of erosion is generally controled by the aggregate breakdown mechanism. Measuring particle size and aggregation to the estimate erodibility potential of soils is important under erosive rainfall conditions. The Aggregate Size Distribution (ASD) is one of the most important determinants of soil structure along with soil organic matter content for describing the efficiency of applied, sustainable management strategies. This study aimed to compare the performances of three different aggregate size distribution models to predict the characteristic aggregate size parameter (median diameter, D50) for eroded sediment from interrill erosion processes of Rain- Splash Transport (RST) and Raindrop Impacted Flow Transport (RIFT). The ASDs of 1143 collected sediment samples from the RST and RIFT processes were measured and modeled by the Log-normal, Fractal, and Weibull approaches. The D50 value, as a characteristic parameter for aggregate size distributions, derived from the cumulative ASD curve was compared for soils from different land use types and different slope and rainfall intensity conditions. The performance of each model was evaluated using the Mean Square Error (MSE) and Coefficient of Determination (R^2). The Weibull approach was the most accurate model showing the best fit with the lowest MSE values (0.0002 ≤MSE≤ 0.0048) and having the greatest R2 values (0.936≤ R^2≤ 0.998) when compared with the Log-normal and Fractal models. 5Comparisons between glucose analogue 2-deoxy-2-(^(18)F)fluoro-D-glucose and ^(18)F-sodium fluoride positron emission tomography/computed tomography in breast cancer patients with bone lesions显示文摘AIM: To compare 2-deoxy-2-(^(18)F)fluoro-D-glucose(^(18)FFDG) and ^(18)F-sodium(^(18)F-NaF) positron emission tomography/computed tomography(PET/CT) accuracy in breast cancer patients with clinically/radiologically suspected or known bone metastases.METHODS: A total of 45 consecutive patients with breast cancer and the presence or clinical/biochemical or radiological suspicion of bone metastatic disease underwent ^(18)F-FDG and ^(18)F-fluoride PET/CT. Imaging results were compared with histopathology when available, or clinical and radiological follow-up of at least 1 year. For each technique we calculated: Sensitivity(Se), specificity(Sp), overall accuracy, positive and negative predictive values, error rate, and Youden's index. Mc Nemar's χ~2 test was used to test the difference in sensitivity and specificity between the two diagnostic methods. All analyses were computed on a patient basis, and then on a lesion basis, with consideration ofthe density of independent lesions on the coregistered CT(sclerotic, lytic, mixed, no-lesions) and the divergent site of disease(skull, spine, ribs, extremities, pelvis). The impact of adding ^(18)F-Na F PET/CT to the work-up of patients was also measured in terms of change in their management due to ^(18)F-Na F PET/CT findings. RESULTS: The two imaging methods of ^(18)F-FDG and ^(18)F-fluoride PET/CT were significantly different at the patient-based analysis: Accuracy was 86.7% and 84.4%, respectively(Mc Nemar's χ~2 = 6.23, df = 1, P = 0.01). Overall, 244 bone lesions were detected in our analysis. The overall accuracy of the two methods was significantly different at lesion-based analysis(Mc Nemar's χ~2 = 93.4, df = 1, P < 0.0001). In the lesion density-based and site-based analysis, ^(18)F-FDG PET/CT provided more accurate results in the detection of CT-negative metastasis(P < 0.002) and vertebral localizations(P < 0.002); ^(18)F-Na F PET/CT was more accurate in detecting sclerotic(P < 0.005) and rib lesions(P < 0.04). ^(18)F-Na F PET/CT led to a change of management in 3 of the 45 patients(6.6%) by revealing findings that were not detected at ^(18)F-FDG PET/CT. CONCLUSION: ^(18)F-FDG PET/CT is a reliable imaging tool in the detection of bone metastasis in most cases, with a diagnostic accuracy that is slightly, but significantly, superior to that of ^(18)F-Na F PET/CT in the general population of breast cancer patients.
