| 1 | Incidence of gallstone disease in Italy:Results from a multicenter,population-based Italian study (the MICOL project)显示文摘AIM:To evaluate gallstone incidence and risk factors in a large population-based study. METHODS: Gallstone incidence and risk factors, were evaluated by structured questionnaire and physical examination, respectively, in 9611 of 11 109 (86.5%) subjects who were gallstone-free at the cross-sectional study. RESULTS: Six centers throughout Italy enrolled 9611 subjects (5477 males, 4134 females, aged 30-79 years), 9517 of whom were included into analysis: 424 subjects (4.4%) had gallstones and 61 (0.6%) had been cholecystectomized yielding a cumulative incidence of 0.67% per year (0.66% in males, 0.81% in females). Increasing age, a high body mass index (BMI), a history of diabetes, peptic ulcer and angina, and low cholesterol and high triglyceride levels were identifi ed as risk factors in men while, in females, the only risk factors were increasing age and a high BMI.Increasing age and pain in the right hypocondrium in men and increasing age in females were identifi ed as predictors of gallstones. Pain in the epigastrium/ right hypocondrium was the only symptom related to gallstones; furthermore, some characteristics of pain (forcing to rest, not relieved by bowel movements) were significantly associated with gallstones. No correlation was found between gallstone characteristics and clinical manifestations, while increasing age in men and increasing age and BMI in females were predictors of pain. | 2 | The plurality effect of topographical irregularities on site seismic response显示文摘Topography can have signifi cant eff ects on seismic ground response during an earthquake because topographic irregularities cause considerable diff erences between the seismic waves emitted by the source and the waves reaching the ground surface. When a seismic motion happens in a topographically irregular area, seismic waves are trapped and refl ected between the topographic features. Therefore, the interaction between topographies can amplify seismic ground response. In order to reveal how interaction between topographies infl uences seismic response, several numerical fi nite element studies have been performed by using the ABAQUS program. The results show that topographic features a greater distance between the seismic source and the site would cause greater seismic motion amplifi cation and is perceptible for the hills far away from the source and the ridges. | 4 | Particle-bound organic and elemental carbons for source identification of PM<0.1μm from biomass combustion显示文摘Atmospheric nanoparticles(PM<0.1μm)are a major cause of environmental problems and also affect health risk.To control and reduce these problems,sources identification of atmospheric particulates is necessary.Combustion of bituminous coal and biomass includ-ing rubber wood,palm kernel,palm fiber,rice stubble,rice straw,maize residue,sugarcane leaves and sugarcane bagasse,which are considered as sources of air quality problems in many countries,was performed.Emissions of particle-bound chemical components includ-ing organic carbon(OC),elemental carbon(EC),water-soluble ions(NH4^(+),Cl^(-),NO_(3)^(-),SO_(4)^(2-)),elements(Ca,K,Mg,Na)and heavy metals(Cd,Cr,Ni,Pb)were investigated.The results re-vealed that PM<0.1μm from all samples was dominated by the OC component(>50%)with minor contribution from EC(3%-12%).The higher fraction of carbonaceous components was found in the particulates with smaller sizes,and lignin content may relate to concentration of pyrolyzed organic carbon(PyOC)resulting in the differences of OC/EC values.PM emit-ted from burning palm fiber and rice stubble showed high values of OC/EC and also high PyOC.Non-carbonaceous components such as Cl^(-),Cr,Ca,Cd,Ni,Na and Mg may be useful as source indicators,but they did not show any correlation with the size of PM. | Hisam Samae Surajit Tekasakul Perapong Tekasakul Worradorn Phairuang Masami Furuuchi Surapa Hongtieab | 2022 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,3: | 2 |
