1Distribution and ecological risk assessment of some heavy metals in coastal surface sediments along the Red Sea,Egypt显示文摘The ecological risk assessment for Al,Zn,Cu,Ni,V,Pb,Cd,and Hg in surface sediment collected from the Egyptian Red Sea coast was evaluated using the Geo-accumulation Index(I_(geo)).Sediment Enrichment Factor(SEF) and Potential Ecological Risk Index(PERI) methods.The predominant heavy metal,aluminum,showed high concentrations along both of Aqaba Gulf(4378.8 ± 2554.1 μg/g) and southern part of the Red Sea(2972.8 + 1527.5 μg/g).while it recorded the lowest concentration in Suez Gulf(829.7 ± 398.2 μg/g).The determined heavy metal concentrations had the order of Al > Zn >-Ni > V > Pb > Cu > Cd > Hg.The statistical analyses showed some correlations among the heavy metals contents.Several international sediment quality guidelines were used to estimate the quality of the collected sediments.Interestingly,the recorded average heavy metals concentrations were lower than those of the permissible contents for sediment quality guidelines.The Geo-accumulation index calculations(I_(geo)) proved that the investigated region could be classified as an unpolluted area.Sediment Enrichment Factor(K_(SEF)) study showed high values in Suez Gulf region.The single pollution index analysis of heavy metals in the sediments(C^i_f) indicated that Al,Zn,V,and Pb were of natural origin,while Ni,Cd and Hg were seriously affected by human activities.Interestingly,amongst,all the determined heavy metals,Cd and Hg gave moderate ecological risk indicators.Ahmed El Nemr Ghada F.El-Said Azza Khaled Safaa Ragab 2016International Journal of Sediment Research2016,31,2:10
2微波烧结生物医用多孔Ti-23%Nb形状记忆合金的参数优化(英文)显示文摘采用微波烧结法成功制备多孔Ti-23%Nb(摩尔分数)形状记忆合金(SMAs)(不含造孔剂)。研究微波烧结对合金显微组织、相组成、相变温度、力学性能和形状记忆效应的影响。结果表明,烧结时间和温度对合金密度和孔隙度大小的影响较大,在900℃下烧结30 min的Ti-23%Nb SMA具有最小的孔径和最均匀的孔形状。多孔Ti-Nb SMA的显微组织主要含有针状和片状的α'、α和β相,且体积分数随烧结时间和温度不同而变化。由于β相稳定元素的含量较高,因此β相含量最多,而α和α'相的含量较少。900℃烧结30 min的样品呈现最优的极限强度和应变,而1200℃烧结30 min的样品则具有最高的超弹性。这些合金的弹性模量较低,可以避免'应力屏蔽'效应。因此,微波加热可以应用于烧结生物医用Ti合金并提高其力学性能。Mustafa K.IBRAHIM E.HAMZAH Safaa N.SAUD E.M.NAZIM A.BAHADOR 2018Transactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China2018,28,4:5
3Material and regenerative properties of an osteon-mimetic cortical bone-like scaffold显示文摘The objective of this work was to fabricate a rigid,resorbable and osteoconductive scaffold by mimicking the hierarchical structure of the cortical bone.Aligned peptide-functionalize nanofiber microsheets were generated with calcium phosphate(CaP)content similar to that of the natural cortical bone.Next,the CaP-rich fibrous microsheets were wrapped around a microneedle to form a laminated microtube mimicking the structure of an osteon.Then,a set of the osteon-mimetic microtubes were assembled around a solid rod and the assembly was annealed to fuse the microtubes and form a shell.Next,an array of circular microholes were drilled on the outer surface of the shell to generate a cortical bone-like scaffold with an interconnected network of Haversian-and Volkmann-like microcanals.The CaP content,porosity and density of the bone-mimetic microsheets were 240 wt%,8%and 1.9 g/ml,respectively,which were close to that of natural cortical bone.The interconnected network of microcanals in the fused microtubes increased permeability of a model protein in the scaffold.The cortical scaffold induced osteogenesis and vasculogenesis in the absence of bone morphogenetic proteins upon seeding with human mesenchymal stem cells and endothelial colony-forming cells.The localized and timed-release of morphogenetic factors significantly increased the extent of osteogenic and vasculogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells and endothelial colony-forming cells in the cortical scaffold.The cortical bonemimetic nature of the cellular construct provided balanced rigidity,resorption rate,osteoconductivity and nutrient diffusivity to support vascularization and osteogenesis.Danial Barati Ozan Karaman Seyedsina Moeinzadeh Safaa Kader Esmaiel Jabbari 2019Regenerative Biomaterials2019,6,2:5
4Changing dietary n-6:n-3 ratio using different oil sources affects performance,behavior,cytokines mRNA expression and meat fatty acid profile of broiler chickens显示文摘Typical formulated broiler diets are deficient in n-3 poly-unsaturated fatty acids(PUFA) due to widening n-6:n-3 PUFA ratio which could greatly affect performance,immune system of birds and,more importantly,meat quality.This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of modifying dietary n-6:n-3 PUFA ratio from plant and animal oil sources on performance,behavior,cytokine m RNA expression,antioxidative status and meat fatty acid profile of broiler chickens.Birds(n=420) were fed 7 diets enriched with different dietary oil sources and ratios as follows: sunflower oil in control diet(C); fish oil(FO); 1:1 ratio of sunflower oil to FO(C1 FO1); 3:1 ratio of sunflower oil to fish oil(C3 FO1); linseed oil(LO); 1:1 ratio of sunflower oil to linseed oil(C1 LO1); 3:1 ratio of sunflower oil to linseed oil(C3 LO1),resulting in dietary n-6:n-3 ratios of approximately 40:1,1.5:1,4:1,8:1,1:1,2.5:1 and 5:1,respectively.The best final body weight,feed conversion ratio as well as protein efficiency ratio of broilers were recorded in the C1 FO1 and C1 LO1 groups.Compared with the control group,the dressing percentage and breast and thigh yield were highest in the C1 FO1 and C1 LO1 groups.Narrowing the dietary n-6:n-3 ratio increased(P < 0.05) n-3 PUFA content of breast meat.Moreover,the breast meat contents of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid increased(P < 0.05) with increasing dietary FO whereas a-linolenic acid content was higher with LO supplementation.Also,enriching the diets with n-3 PUFA from FO and LO clearly decreased(P < 0.05) serum total cholesterol,triglycerides and very low-density lipoproteins and enhanced antioxidative status.The feeding frequency was decreased(P < 0.05) in the C1 FO1 and C1 LO1 groups.Likewise,n-3 PUFA-enriched diets enhanced the frequency of preening,wing flapping and flightiness.Animal oil source addition,compared to plant oil,to broiler diets enhanced the relative m RNA expression of interferon gamma,interleukin-1 beta,interleukin-2 and interleukin-6 genes,especially at low n-6:n-3 ratios.This study has clearly shown that narrowing n-6:n-3 ratio through the addition of FO or LO improved performance and immune response of broilers and resulted in healthy chicken meat,enriched with long chain n-3 PUFA.Doaa Ibrahim Rania El-Sayed Safaa I.Khater Enas N.Said Shefaa A.M.El-Mandrawy 2018Animal Nutrition2018,,1:5
5Chewing gum for declining ileus and accelerating gastrointestinal recovery after appendectomy显示文摘Objective: Ileus usually occurs after abdominal surgery and is allied with complication and delays recovery. It is hypothesized that chewing gum reduces postoperative ileus by improving early recovery of gastrointestinal function. This study aimed to explore whether chewing gum after appendectomy accelerates the recovery of gastrointestinal function.Methods: Randomized control trial was used in this study. This study was conducted in the General Surgery Department at Zagazig University Hospital. A total of 240 patients undergoing appendectomy were involved in this study; they were divided into the chewing sugar-free gum group(120) and the control group(120). Two tools were utilized in this study. Tool I: Structured Interviewing Schedule: part 1: assessment of personnel characteristics. Part 2: assessment of anthropometric measurements of the studied subjects as well as pre-and intraoperative indicators of them. Tool II: postoperative assessment sheet: assessed postoperative parameters of the intestinal function, occurrence of postoperative ileus, and related symptoms were assessed among studied participants.Results: There were highly significant statistical differences in the time of resumption of gastrointestinal functions and postoperative ileus symptoms between the two groups(P<0.001), which was significantly shorter in the chewing gum group compared to the control group.Conclusions: The use of chewing gum is a useful and cheap method that can be employed to cut down the time to recover and accelerate normalization of gastrointestinal function. 8Effectiveness of hepatitis B virus vaccination program in Egypt:Multicenter national project显示文摘AIM:To assess the effectiveness of hepatitis B virus(HBV) vaccination program among fully vaccinated children.METHODS:A national community based crosssectional study was carried out in 6 governorates representing Egypt. A total of 3600 children aged from 9 mo to 16 years who were fully vaccinated with HBV vaccine during infancy were recruited. Face to face interviews were carried out and sera were evaluated for hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsA g),anti-HBV core antibodies(total) and quantitative detection of hepatitis B surface antibody using enzyme linked immunoassays techniques. Samples positive to HBs Ag/anti-HBV core antibodies were subjected to quantitative HBV-DNA detection by real time polymerase chain reaction with 3.8 IU/L detection limit. RESULTS:Sero-protection was detected among 2059 children(57.2%) with geometric mean titers 75.4 ± 3.6 IU/L compared to 3.1 ± 2.1 IU/L among nonseroprotected children. Multivariate logistic analysis revealed that older age and female gender were the significant predicting variables for having non seroprotective level,with adjusted odds ratio 3.3,9.1and 14.2 among children aged 5 to < 10,10 to < 15 and ≥ 15 years respectively compared to those < 5 years and 1.1 among girls compared to boys with P < 0.01. HBs Ag was positive in 0.11% and breakthrough infection was 0.36% and 0.39% depending on positivity of anti-HBc and DNA detection respectively. The prevalence of HBV infection was significantly higher among children aged ≥ 7 years(0.59%) compared to 0.07% among younger children with odds ratio equal to 8.4(95%CI:1.1-64.2) and P < 0.01.The prevalence was higher among girls(0.48%) than boys(0.29%) with P > 0.05. 11Amination of biochar surface from watermelon peel for toxic chromium removal enhancement显示文摘Watermelon peel residues were used to produce a new biochar by dehydration method.The new biochar has undergone two methods of chemical modification and the effect of this chemical modification on its ability to adsorb Cr(VI)ions from aqueous solution has been investigated.Three biochars,Melon-B,Melon-BO-NH_(2) and Melon-BO-TETA,were made from watermelon peel via dehydration with 50%sulfuric acid to give Melon-B followed by oxidation with ozone and amination using ammonium hydroxide to give Melon-BO-NH_(2) or Triethylenetetramine(TETA)to give Melon-BO-TETA.The prepared biochars were characterized by BET,BJH,SEM,FT-IR,TGA,DSC and EDAX analyses.The highest removal percentage of Cr(VI)ions was 69%for Melon-B,98%for Melon-BO-NH_(2) and 99%for Melon-BO-TETA biochars of 100 mg·L^(−1) Cr(VI)ions initial concentration and 1.0 g·L^(−1) adsorbents dose.The unmodified biochar(Melon-B)and modified biochars(Melon-BO-NH_(2) and Melon-BO-TETA)had maximum adsorption capacities(Q_(m))of 72.46,123.46,and 333.33 mg·g^(−1),respectively.The amination of biochar reduced the pore size of modified biochar,whereas the surface area was enhanced.The obtained data of isotherm models were tested using different error function equations.The Freundlich,Tempkin and Langmuir isotherm models were best fitted to the experimental data of Melon-B,Melon-BO-NH_(2) and Melon-BO-TETA,respectively.The adsorption rate was primarily controlled by pseudo-second–order rate model.Conclusively,the functional groups interactions are important for adsorption mechanisms and expected to control the adsorption process.The adsorption for the Melon-B,Melon-BO-NH_(2) and Melon-BO-TETA could be explained for acid–base interaction and hydrogen bonding interaction.Mohamed A.El-Nemr Ibrahim M.A.Ismail Nabil M.Abdelmonem Ahmed El Nemr Safaa Ragab 2021Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,8:1

17Bedouin farms in the Saint Katherine mountainous area(South Sinai,Egypt)显示文摘This study aims to assess the natural and cultivated plant species in 26 Bedouin farms in Saint Katherine Protectorate(SKP),identify their soil and water characteristics,and assess the suitability of these farms for the cultivation of some wild medicinal plants.The farms were selected to represent wide wadis with deep sand and clay deposits,gorge-like wadis covered with rock fragments of different sizes,spot-like oases,and the Al Q’aa Plain.Using TWINSPAN(two-way indicator species analysis)and DCA(detrended correspondence analysis)techniques,the 26 farms were classified into 5 groups(Ⅰ-Ⅴ)based on their floristic composition of wild plants.These groups reflect an elevation gradient among the farms above sea level from a mean of 119 m to a mean of1,865m.A total of 73 wild species were recorded,with47 in groupⅡ(500-1,000 m)and 25 in group V(>1,700 m).The common target species were Artemisia judaica,Acacia tortilis subsp.raddiana,Origanum syriacum subsp.sinaicum and Varthemia montana(34.6%-26.9%).The cultivated speciesnumbered 25,with 17 in groupⅡ(500-1,000 m) andⅡin groupⅣ(1,500-1,700 m).The common fruit trees were olive,grape,fig,apple,palm,almond,apricot and pomegranate(73.0%-42.3%).Based on the soil characteristics,13 farms belong to soil class 2that describes good soils with moderate limitations,and 12 belong to soil class 3 that describes moderately good soils,which can be used regularly for crops after proper treatment.Kamal H.SHALTOUT Khaled H.EL-HAMDI Safaa A.EL-MASRY Ebrahem M.EID 2019Journal of Mountain Science2019,16,10:1
