| 1 | A review on completing arsenic biogeochemical cycle: Microbial volatilization of arsines in environment显示文摘Arsenic(As) is ubiquitous in the environment in the carcinogenic inorganic forms, posing risks to human health in many parts of the world. Many microorganisms have evolved a series of mechanisms to cope with inorganic arsenic in their growth media such as transforming As compounds into volatile derivatives. Bio-volatilization of As has been suggested to play an important role in global As biogeochemical cycling, and can also be explored as a potential method for arsenic bioremediation. This review aims to provide an overview of the quality and quantity of As volatilization by fungi, bacteria, microalga and protozoans. Arsenic bio-volatilization is influenced by both biotic and abiotic factors that can be manipulated/elucidated for the purpose of As bioremediation. | 4 | Prognostic factors of primary gastrointestinal stromal tumors: a cohort study based on high-volume centers显示文摘Objective: We aimed to evaluate the clinicopathologic characteristics, immunohistochemical expression and prognostic factors of patients with primary gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs).Methods: Data from 2,570 consecutive GIST patients from four medical centers in China(January2001–December 2015) were reviewed. Survival curves were constructed by the Kaplan-Meier method, and Cox regression models were used to identify independent prognostic factors.Results: Of the included patients, 1,375(53.5%) were male, and the patient age range was 18 to 95(median, 58)years. The tumors were mostly found in the stomach(64.5%), small intestine(25.1%) and colorectal region(5.1%).At the time of diagnosis, the median tumor size was 4.0(range: 0.1–55.0) cm, and the median mitotic index per 50 high power fields(HPFs) was 3(range: 0–254). Of the 2,168 resected patients, 2,009(92.7%) received curative resection. According to the modified National Institutes of Health(NIH) classification, 21.9%, 28.9%, 14.1% and35.1% were very low-, low-, intermediate-and high-risk tumors, respectively. The rate of positivity was 96.4% for c-Kit, 87.1% for CD34, 96.9% for delay of germination 1(DOG-1), 8.0% for S-100, 31.0% for smooth muscle actin(SMA) and 5.1% for desmin. However, the prognostic value of each was limited. Multivariate analysis showed that age, tumor size, mitotic index, tumor site, occurrence of curative resection and postoperative imatinib were independent prognostic factors. Furthermore, we found that high-risk patients benefited significantly from postoperative imatinib(P<0.001), whereas intermediate-risk patients did not(P=0.954).Conclusions: Age, tumor size, mitotic index, tumor site, occurrence of curative resection and postoperative imatinib were independent prognostic factors in patients with GISTs. | 5 | Effect of microbial mediated iron plaque reduction on arsenic mobility in paddy soil显示文摘The potential of microbial mediated iron plaque reduction, and associated arsenic (As) mobility were examined by iron reducing bacteria enriched from As contaminated paddy soil. To our knowledge, this is the first time to report the impact of microbial iron plaque reduction on As mobility. Iron reduction occurred during the inoculation of iron reducing enrichment culture in the treatments with iron plaque and ferrihydrite as the electron acceptors, respectively. The Fe(II) concentration with the treatment of anthraquinone-2, 6-disulfonic acid (AQDS) and iron reducing bacteria increased much faster than the control. Arsenic released from iron plaque with the iron reduction, and a significant correlation between Fe(II) and total As in culture was observed. However, compared with control, the increasing rate of As was inhibited by iron reducing bacteria especially in the presence of AQDS. In addition, the concentrations of As(III) and As(V) in abiotic treatments were higher than those in the biotic treatments at day 30. These results indicated that both microbial and chemical reductions of iron plaque caused As release from iron plaque to aqueous phase, however, microbial iron reduction induced the formation of more crystalline iron minerals, leading to As sequestration. In addition, the presence of AQDS in solution can accelerate the iron reduction, the As release from iron plaque and subsequently the As retention in the crystalline iron mineral. | 10 | Photodegradation of 2-(2-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl) benzotriazole(UV-P) in coastal seawaters: Important role of DOM显示文摘Benzotriazole UV stabilizers (BT-UVs) have attracted concems due to their ubiquitous occurrence in the aquatic environment,and their bioaccumulative and toxic properties.However,little is known about their aquatic environmental degradation behavior.In this study,photodegradation of a representative of BT-UVs,2-(2-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl) benzotriazole (UV-P),was investigated under simulated sunlight irradiation.Results show that UV-P photodegrades slower under neutral conditions (neutral form) than under acidic or alkaline conditions (cationic and anionic forms).Indirect photodegradation is a dominant elimination pathway of UV-P in coastal seawaters.Dissolved organic matter (DOM) from seawaters accelerate the photodegradation rates mainly through excited triplet DOM (3DOM*),and the roles of singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radical are negligible in the matrixes.DOM from seawaters impacted by mariculture exhibits higher steady-state concentration of 3DOM*([3DOM*]) relative to those from pristine seawaters,leading to higher photosensitizing effects on the photodegradation.Halide ions inhibit the DOM-sensitized photodegradation of UV-P by decreasing [3DOM*].Photodegradation half-lives of UV-P are estimated to range from 24.38 to 49.66 hr in field water bodies of the Yellow River estuary.These results are of importance for assessing environmental fate and risk UV-P in coastal water bodies. | Xi Chen Jieqiong Wang Jingwen Chen Chengzhi Zhou Feifei Cui Guoxin Sun | 2019 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2019,31,11: | 6 |
| 11 | Characterization of arsenate transformation and identification of arsenate reductase in a green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii显示文摘Arsenic (As) is a pervasive and ubiquitous environmental toxin that has created catastrophic human health problems world-wide. Chlamydomonas reinhardtii is a unicellular green alga, which exists ubiquitously in freshwater aquatic systems. Arsenic metabolism processes of this alga through arsenate reduction and sequent store and efflux were investigated. When supplied with 10 μmol/L arsenate, arsenic speciation analysis showed that arsenite concentration increased from 5.7 to 15.7 mg/kg dry weight during a 7-day period, accounting for 18%–24% of the total As in alga. When treated with different levels of arsenate (10, 20, 30, 40, 50 μmol/L) for 7 days, the arsenite concentration increased with increasing external arsenate concentrations, the proportion of arsenite was up to 23%–28% of the total As in alga. In efflux experiments, both arsenate and arsenite could be found in the efflux solutions. Additionally, the efflux of arsenate was more than that of arsenite. Furthermore, two arsenate reductase genes of C. reinhardtii (CrACR2s) were cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli strain WC3110 (?arsC) for the first time. The abilities of both CrACR2s genes to complement the arsenate- sensitive strain were examined. CrACR2.1 restored arsenate resistance at 0.8 mmol/L. However, CrACR2.2 showed much less ability to complement. The gene products were demonstrated to reduce arsenate to arsenite in vivo. | 14 | Photocatalytic Activity of Porous Magnesium Oxychloride Cement Combined with AC/TiO2 Composites显示文摘As a decorative material, magnesium oxychloride cement was used as a photocatalyst supporter to purify the pollutants indoors. Due to excellent adsorption properties of activated carbon(AC), the photocatalytic composties, TiO_2/AC, were prepared and introduced into the porous magnesium oxychloride cement(PMOC) substrate to composite a sort of photocatalytic cementitious material(PCM). The optimal composite processes were assessed by gas chromatograph, using toluene as the target. By comparing the perspective of toluene purification and thorough decomposition, it can be found that the optimal mass ratio for TiO_2/AC composites is 4/25, and the heat treatment to TiO_2/AC sample at 350 ℃ can play the optimal synergetic role of adsorbents in photocatalytic process. The synergistic effect of TiO_2, AC and magnesium oxychloride cement(MOC) was also evaluated by gas chromatograph. One-take molding process was adopted to introduce the TiO_2/AC into PMOC substrate, and its optimal mass fraction was 4 wt%, while the appropriate density of substrate was 0.35 g/cm3. Toluene degradation showed that the prepared PCM can degrade pollutants efficiently. The appropriate treatment process of TiO_2/AC, mass of TiO_2/AC, substrate density, and stable pore structure should be coordinated to maximize the adsorption-photodegradation performance. | 18 | Insights into pH-dependent transformation of gibberellic acid in aqueous solution:Transformation pathway,mechanism and toxicity estimation显示文摘Gibberellic acid(GA_(3))is widely used in agriculture and maybe transfer with groundwater flow,which is an endocrine disruptor,but few studies have focused on the transformation pathway and toxicity assessment of GA_(3)and its products.Here,GA_(3)and its transformation products in aqueous solution were identified and quantified by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry hybrid ion trap time-of-flight(LCMS-IT-TOF)and high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC),respectively.The results showed that the half-life of GA_(3)transformation in ultrapure water was 16.1–24.6 days at p H=2.0–8.0,with the lowest half-life occurring at p H=8.0 and highest half-life occurring at p H=3.3.Isomerized gibberellic acid(Iso-GA_(3))and gibberellenic acid(GEA)were the main transformation products with a little hydroxy gibberellic acid(OH-GA_(3)).In North China groundwater,the mass balance of GA_(3)and its products was 76.2%,including Iso-GA_(3)(58%),GEA(7.9%),GA_(3)(7.3%)and OH-GA_(3)(3%)after reaching transformation equilibrium.Using Gaussian 09 for chemical computation,it was found that the transformation mechanism of GA_(3)was dependent upon the bond energy and the stereochemical feature of its molecular structure.GA_(3)always isomerized from theγ-lactone ring due to the lowest bond energy between the oxygen terminus of theγ-lactone ring and A ring.While GA_(3)and its transformation products all had developmental toxicity,the predicated LC 50(96 hr)and LD 50 of the main products of GA_(3)were much lower than those of GA_(3),indicating GA_(3)would be transformed into higher toxicity derivatives in water environments,posing a significant health risk to humans and the environment. | Li Zhang Yajun Sun Zhimin Xu Wenjing Zhang Guoxin Huang Fei Liu Liang Chen | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,6: | 2 |

| 20 | An analysis of major scientific problems and research paths of Gulong shale oil in Daqing Oilfield, NE China显示文摘After the preliminary basic research on the problems encountered during the production period of Gulong shale oil in the Songliao Basin, NE China, and the scientific exploration, the special characteristics of Gulong shale oil in terms of reservoir space, phase distribution, flow pattern, and mineral evolution are proposed. The main results are as follows :(1) The source of organic matter, mechanism of hydrocarbon generation and expulsion, and key factors affecting shale oil abundance;(2) The types and structural characteristics of the reservoir and their contribution to porosity and permeability;(3) The mineral origin and evolution of minerals and their influence on reservoir availability, sensitivity, and compressibility;(4) The rock mechanical characteristics and fracture propagation law of Gulong shale;(5) The shale oil products, phase change law and main control factors of adsorption and desorption conversion of Gulong shale oil;(6) The mechanism of shale oil-liquid, solid-liquid gas interaction and enhanced oil recovery. Three key research suggestions are proposed to realize the large-scale economic utilization of the Gulong shale oil as follows:(1) Deepen research on the mechanism of oil and gas generation and discharge, storage and transportation, to guide the selection of geological sweet spots of shale oil;(2) Deepen research on the compressibility and fracture initiation mechanism to support the selection of engineering sweet spots and optimization of engineering design;(3) Deepen research on the fluid interaction mechanism under reservoir conditions, os us to guide the optimization of development schemes and the selection of EOR technologies.
