2Assessing the impact of TB/HIV services integration on TB treatment outcomes and their relevance in TB/HIV monitoring in Ghana显示文摘Background:The impact of the human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)on tuberculosis(TB),and the implications for TB and HIV control,is a public health challenge in Ghana-almost a quarter(23%)of all TB cases were HIV positive in 2010.The integration of TB/HIV services has therefore emerged as an essential component of the national response to TB and HIV.The aim is to reduce fragmentation,improve access,enhance efficiency and improve quality of care.Ghana’s TB/HIV policy comprises three linked sets of activities:effective implementation of the Stop TB Strategy for TB control,improved HIV prevention and care,and the implementation of additional TB/HIV activities.Different models of service delivery with increasing integration of TB/HIV activities are expected to provide greater access to more comprehensive care.The objective of this paper is to assess the impact of TB/HIV integration on TB treatment outcomes and to explore the usefulness of TB treatment outcomes as TB/HIV indicators.Methods:A before-and-after study to observe the introduction of TB/HIV activities into TB programmes in three hospitals with different levels of integration was conducted.Anonymised patient data was collated from TB registers from each facility,and analysed to determine if TB treatment outcomes changed significantly after integration.Results:TB treatment success was 50%(95%CI 49-52)prior to,and 69%(95%CI 65-73)after,integration(Χ243.96,p<0.00).Treatment success increased from 43%to 53%at the one-stop shop(OSS),from 69%to 78%at the partially integrated site(PIS)and substantially from 46%to 78%at the referral site(RS)(Χ264.54;p<0.01).Defaults and cases transferred out reduced from 14.3%and 15.3%prior to integration,to 1.4%and 9.0%after integration,respectively,accounting for a significant increase in treatment success.Death rates remained high at 18%in all cases studied and 25%in HIV-associated cases after integration.Conclusion:TB/HIV integration may improve TB treatment success,but its exact impact is difficult to ascertain due to non-specificity and design limitations.TB mortality may be more useful as an indicator for monitoring TB/HIV activities in Ghana.Gloria Akosua Ansa John D Walley Kamran Siddiqi Xiaolin Wei 2012Infectious Diseases of Poverty2012,1,1:4

4Reconfigurable intelligent surface-aided wireless communications: An overview显示文摘The reconfigurable intelligent surface(RIS)is an emerging technology,which will hopefully bring a new revolution in wireless communications.The RIS technology can be deployed in an indoor/outdoor environment to dynamically manipulate the propagation environment.The RIS consists of a large number of independently controllable passive elements,and these elements are involved in realizing high passive beamforming gain.Different from the conventional active phased antenna array,there is no dedicated radio-frequency(RF)chain installed at the RIS to perform complex signal processing operations.Therefore,it does not incur additional noise while retransmitting the incident wave,which is substantially a unique feature from the conventional wireless communication systems.Taking advantage of its working principle,RIS has been deployed in various practical scenarios.In this tutorial,at first we will review the latest advances in RIS,including the application scenarios such as the system and channel model,the information theoretic analysis,the physical realization and design,key signal processing techniques such as precoding and channel estimation,and prototyping.Finally,we discuss interesting future research problems for the RIS-aided communications.Muhammad Zain Siddiqi Talha Mir 2022Intelligent and Converged Networks2022,3,1:3
5Synthesis and antibacterial studies of ciprofloxacin-metal complexes显示文摘Metal complexes of ciprofloxacin were synthesized to study the effect of the drug on the metals present in the body or metals co-administered as multivitamin therapy. These complexes were then characterized by IR, UV, 1 H NMR, CHN and AA analyses. It was found that the metals coordinated through the β-keto carboxylic group, forming four coordinated complexes having square planar geometry. The effect of the antibacterial activity of these complexes with respect to parent drug was also studied against 14 different Gram + ve and Gram – ve organisms by the disk susceptibility technique. 6Anatomical studies on water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms) under the influence of textile wastewater显示文摘Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms) is a prolific free floating aquatic macrohpyte found in tropical and subtropical parts of the earth. The effects of pollutants from textile wastewater on the anatomy of the plant were studied. Water hyacinth exhibits hydrophytic adaptations which include reduced epidermis cells lacking cuticle in most cases, presence of large air spaces (7~50 μm), reduced vascular tissue and absorbing structures. 7Development of Non-enzymatic Cholesterol Electrochemical Sensor Based on Polyindole/Tungsten Carbide Nanocomposite显示文摘Non-enzymatic electrochemical sensor was developed for estimation of low-level cholesterol.Polyindole/tungsten carbide(PIN/WC)nanocomposite was synthesized and used as an electroactive material to develop low-cost modified stainless steel plate electrode(SSPE).Surface morphology of developed electrode was characterized by scanning electron microscopy.Electrochemical behavior of cholesterol was investigated through electron impedance spectroscopy,potentiodynamic polarization and cyclic voltammetry in 1-M KOH electrolytic solution.The quantification of cholesterol was studied by square wave voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry.The calibration plots between the cholesterol concentration and peak current were in linear relation with limit of detection of 1.23×10^(−6) mol L^(−1).The overall result reveals that developed PIN/WC/SSPE electrode has excellent performance for trace-level cholesterol estimation and can be further employed for cholesterol monitoring in blood serum samples.Shubham Sharma Preeti Joshi Sameena Mehtab Md.Ghulam Haider Zaidi Kavita Singhal Tanveer Irshad Siddiqi 2020Journal of Analysis and Testing2020,4,1:2
