1Ecological fitness of brown planthopper, Nilaparvata lugens (Stål), to rice nutrient management显示文摘Introduction:The brown planthopper(BPH),Nilaparvata lugens(Stål)(Hemiptera:Delphacidae),is a notorious insect pest of rice.Nutrient supplementation can alter plant biochemical compositions which may indirectly affect on ecological fitness parameters of its insect pest.However,few findings are available on nutrient-induced ecological fitness of BPH and relationship of BPH fitness parameters with its host rice plant biochemical contents.Methods:We studied the main and interaction effects of nitrogen(N),phosphorus(P),and potassium(K)inputs on BPH fitness,as measured by the following variables:nymph survival,nymphal duration,adult body weight,and its survival.Brown planthopper fitness parameters were regressed as function of rice plant(Oryza sativa)biochemical composition.A completely randomized design with four replications in a factorial scheme was used considering N,P,and K levels as factors.Results:Nitrogen application to the host rice plants provided greater survival and enhanced body weight of BPH.The nymphal duration was found to decrease with N subsidy that caused shorter generation time of BPH.Nitrogenous compounds N and soluble protein(SP),total free sugar(TFS),and silicon(Si)content in rice plant tissue correlated strongly with all fitness traits of BPH.Nitrogen,SP,and TFS associated positively with BPH survival and body weight,while negatively with nymphal duration.In contrast,Si had negative correlation with BPH survival and body weight,but positive with nymphal duration.Phosphorus supplementation to host plant contributed to increase BPH body weight.Relationships of P with all parameters of BPH were weak except body weight which was highly significant and positive.Interaction between N and P inputs demonstrated significant effect on BPH body weight.Application of K had no significant effect on BPH survival and development.Regression analysis did not detect significant relationship of BPH fitness parameters with plant tissue content of K.Conclusions:The results suggest that BPH ecological fitness characters were improved after N and P fertilization to rice plants which are associated with biochemical content of rice plant.Therefore,N and P inputs should be used judiciously in rice cultivation to keep BPH ecological fitness potential at minimum level.Md.Mamunur Rashid Mahbuba Jahan Khandakar S.Islam Md.Abdul Latif 2017Ecological Processes2017,6,1:0
2Effects of aspect ratio on unsteady solutions through curved duct flow显示文摘The effects of the aspect ratio on unsteady solutions through the curved duct flow are studied numerically by a spectral based computational procedure with a temperature gradient between the vertical sidewalk for the Grashof number 100≤Gr ≤2 000.The outer wall of the duct is heated while the inner wall is cooled and the top and bottom walls are adiabatic.In this paper,unsteady solutions are calculated by the time history analysis of the Nusselt number for the Dean numbers Dn = 100 and Dn = 500and the aspect ratios 1 ≤ 7 ≤ 3.Water is taken as a working fluid(Pr = 7.0).It is found that at Dn = 100,there appears a steady-state solution for small or large Gr.For moderate Gr,however,the steady-state solution turns into the periodic solution if 7 is increased.For Dn = 500,on the other hand,it is analyzed that the steady-state solution turns into the chaotic solution for small and large Gr for any 7 lying in the range.For moderate Gr at Dn = 500,however,the steady-state flow turns into the chaotic flow through the periodic oscillating flow if the aspect ratio is increased.R.N.MONDAL S.ISLAM K.UDDIN A.HOSSAIN 2013Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2013,34,9:0

4Swirling flow and capillary diameter effect on the performance of an active dry powder inhalers显示文摘For patients with lung disease,dry powder inhalers(DPI)are profoundly beneficial.The current study introduces and develops a series of dry powder inhalers(DPIs).A capsule-based(size 0)active DPI was considered.The study aims to investigate whether swirling flow and outlet capillary diameter(dc_out)affect the percentage of emitted doses(ED)released from the capsule.Spiral vanes were added to the capillary inlet to produce a swirling flow.Computational fluid dynamics(CFD)was applied to simulate the problem.The results were compared with previous in vitro and numerical studies to validate the results.Based on the derived results,the small swirl parameter(SP)enhances the secondary flow and recirculation zone.It increases the central jet flow,which increases the ED value by about 5–20%compared to no-swirl flow.However,as the airflow rate increases,the recirculation zone enlarges,vorticities become dominant,and asymmetrical flow patterns emerge.Consequently,ED%drops significantly(more than 50%).As d_(c_out)decreases,the vorticities around the outlet capillary become more potent,which is undesirable.Indeed,the emptying of the capsule does not happen ideally.The research provides a perspective on the device's design and DPI performance.Mohammad Hasan Taheri Nematollah Askari Yaning Feng Malikeh Nabaei Mohammad S.Islam Ali Farnoud Xinguang Cui 2023Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices2023,,2:0
