Lens Epithelial Cell Proliferation and Cell Density in Human Age-related Cataract显示文摘Purpose: To discuss the potential effect of the lens epithelial cell proliferation inage-related cataract. Methods: In vitro cell proliferation was assayed by MTT method to evaluate the lensepithelial cell density, index, and proliferation capacity in normal lens and all kinds ofage-related cataract. Capsulotomy specimens from all kinds of patients who underwentcataract phacoemulsification extraction surgery were compared with the lens epithelialspecimens from non-cataract lenses of Eye Bank eyes. Results:Lens epithelial cell density of central anterior capsule(LECD) in female normallens was higher than that in male, LECD in nuclear cataract (> NⅢ) was higher thanthat in normal lens, but in the mature cortical cataract, LECD was lower. Mitotic indexof three kinds of age-related cataracts in vivo had no statistical difference, neither didcell proliferation capacity of cultivated cells in vitro. Conclusion: The individual difference of lens epithelial cell density and proliferationcapacity in vivo may be | Xialin Liu, Yizhi Liu, Jianliang Zheng, Qiang Huang, Ruling ZhengZhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences, Guangzhou 510060, China | 2000 | 眼科学报2000,16,3: | 3
Hepatic Ischemia-reperfusion Injury in Mice was Alleviated by Rac1 Inhibition - More Than Just ROS-inhibition显示文摘Background and Aims:Reducing reactive oxygen species(ROS)production has proven an effective way for allevi-ating oxidative stress during ischemia-reperfusion injury(IRI).Moreover, inhibition of Rac1 could reduce ROS pro-duction and prevent oxidative stress injury.Previous stud-ies have suggested a positive interactivation feedback loop between Rac1 and hypoxia-inducible factor(HIF)-1α,the latter being up-regulated early during ischemia. The posi-tive inter-activation between Rac1 and HIF-1αwould ag-gravate ROS production, thereby promoting IRI.This study was designed to verify the effects of Rac1 inhibition on he-patic IRI both at animal and cellular levels and to explore the interaction between Rac1 and HIF-1αduring hepatic IRI.Methods:C57B/6 mice and AML-12 cells were used for the construction of hepatic IRI animal and cell models.Rac1 inhibition was achieved by NSC23766(a specific Rac1 inhibitor).Lentiviral vectors were used for Rac1 knock-down.At designated time points, serum and liver tissues were collected from the mice and treated cells were col-lected for further analysis.Results:NSC23766 treatment significantly alleviated the hepatic IRI in mice, manifesting as lower vacuolation score and less apoptosis cells, lower ROS and serum/liver alanine aminotransferase/aspartate aminotransferase levels, and fewer activated inflammatory cells.IRI of AML-12 was also alleviated by 50μM NSC23766 or Rac1-knockdown,manifesting as reduced cell apoptosis, less extensive interruption of mitochondrial membrane po-tential,down-regulation of apoptosis, and effects on DNA damage-related proteins.Interestingly,Rac1 knockdown also down-regulated the expression level of HIF-1α.Con-clusions:Our study supports a protective effect of Rac1 inhibition on hepatic IRI.Aside from the classic topics of reducing ROS production and oxidative stress, our study showed an interaction between Rac1 and HIF-1αsignaling during hepatic IRI. | Zhilin Sha Yajie Yang Ruling Liu Haili Bao Shaohua Song Junfeng Dong Meng Guo Yuanyu Zhao Hu Liu Guoshan Ding | 2022 | Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology2022,10,1: | 0
Proton beam therapy for locally advanced lung cancer: A review显示文摘Protons interact with human tissue differently than do photons and these differences can be exploited in an attempt to improve the care of lung cancer patients. This review examines proton beam therapy(PBT) as a component of a combined modality program for locally advanced lung cancers. It was specifically written for the non-radiation oncologist who desires greater understanding of this newer treatment modality. This review describes and compares photon(X-ray) radiotherapy(XRT) to PBT. The physical differences of these beams are described and the clinical literature is reviewed. Protons can be used to create treatment plans delivering significantly lower doses of radiation to the adjacent organs at risk(lungs, esophagus, and bone marrow) than photons. Clinically, PBT combined with chemotherapy has resulted in low rates of toxicity comparedto XRT. Early results suggest a possible improvement in survival. The clinical results of proton therapy in lung cancer patients reveal relatively low rates of toxicity and possible survival benefits. One randomized study is being performed and another is planned to clarify the clinical differences in patient outcome for PBT compared to XRT. Along with the development of better systemic therapy, newer forms of radiotherapy such as PBT should positively impact the care of lung cancer patients. This review provides the reader with the current status of this new technology in treating locally advanced lung cancer. | Steven E Schild William G Rule Jonathan B Ashman Sujay A Vora Sameer Keole Aman Anand Wei Liu Martin Bues | 2014 | World Journal of Clinical Oncology2014,5,4: | 0

Recent progress on electro-sorption technology for lithium recovery from aqueous sources显示文摘Lithium is known as the“white petroleum”of the electrification era,and the global demand for lithium grows rapidly with the quick development of new energy industry. The aqueous solutions, such as salt lake brine, underground brine, and seawater, have large lithium reserves, thus this kind of lithium resource has become a research hotspot recently.Compared with other lithium extraction technologies,electro-sorption method shows good prospects for practical applications with advantages in the aspects of efficiency, recovery ratio, cost, and environment.Herein, this review covers recent progress on electro-sorption technology for lithium recovery from aqueous solutions, including the concept illustration, research progress of the applied working electrodes and counter electrodes, and the evaluation indicators of electro-sorption system.Meanwhile, some prospects for the development of this technology are also proposed. We hope this review is beneficial for the construction of high-efficient electrochemical lithium recovery system to achieve an adequate lithium supply in the future. | Qichen Lu Peng Liu Tianyi Zhou Ruling Huang Kexin Zhang Lin Hu Rong Liu Zhibo Ren Jinyi Wang Xiaolong Wang | 2024 | Nano Research2024,17,4: | 0
PVDF-HFP-SN-based gel polymer electrolyte for high-performance lithium-ion batteries显示文摘Gel polymer electrolytes(GPEs)have attracted extensive attention in lithium-ion batteries due to their high security and excellent electrochemical performance. However, their inferior Li-ion transference number, low room-temperature ionic conductivity, and poor long cycle stability raise challenges in practical applications.Herein,a flexible poly(vinylidene fluoride-cohexafluoropropylene)-butanedinitrile(PVDF-HFP-SN)-based GPE(PSGPE)is synthesized successfully by a general immersion precipitation method. The resultant PSGPEs have numerous connecting pores to ensure sufficient space for liquid electrolytes. Moreover, the reduced crystallinity of PVDF-HFP and the high polarity of SN can reduce the energy barrier of Li-ions shuttling between pores. The synergistic effect possesses a high ionic conductivity of 1.35 mS·cm^(-1)at room temperature with a high Li-ion transference number of 0.69.The PVDF-HFP-SN-based GPE is applied in a LiFePO_(4)/graphite battery, which can realize stable cycling performance for 350 cycles and good rate performance at room temperature. These results demonstrate that the novel PSGPE possesses advantage in simplified production process, which can improve the practicability of gel polymer lithium-ion batteries. | Ruling Huang Ruochen Xu Jiangtao Zhang Jiayun Wang Tianyi Zhou Mingyi Liu Xiaolong Wang | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,7: | 0
