| 1 | Seasonal variations and size distributions of water-soluble ions in atmospheric aerosols in Beijing, 2012显示文摘The characteristics of water-soluble ions in airborne particulate matter in Beijing were investigated using ion chromatography. The results showed that the total concentrations of ions were 83.7 ± 48.9 μg/m3 in spring, 54.0 ± 17.0 μg/m3 in summer, 54.1 ± 42.9 μg/m3 in autumn, and 88.8 ± 47.7 μg/m3 in winter, respectively. Furthermore, out of all the ions, NO3-,SO42-and NH4+accounted for 81.2% in spring, 78.5% in summer, 74.6% in autumn, and 76.3%in winter. Mg2+and Ca2+were mainly associated with coarse particles, with a peak that ranged from 5.8 to 9.0 μm. Na+, NH4+and Cl-had a multi-mode distribution with peaks that ranged from 0.43 to 1.1 μm and 4.7 to 9.0 μm. K+, NO3-, and SO42-were mainly associated with fine particles, with a peak that ranged from 0.65 to 2.1 μm. The concentrations of Na+, K+,Mg2+, Ca2+, NH4+, Cl-, NO3-and SO42-were 2.69, 2.32, 1.01, 4.84, 16.9, 11.8, 42.0, and 44.1 μg/m3 in particulate matter(PM) on foggy days, respectively, which were 1.4 to 7.3 times higher than those on clear days. | 6 | Characteristics and formation mechanism of regional haze episodes in the Pearl River Delta of China显示文摘To investigate the characteristics and the specific mechanism of continuous haze,comprehensive measurements were conducted from 15 October to 19 November in the Atmospheric Environment Monitoring Super-Station in Heshan of Guangdong province.Five haze episodes occurred in October and November 2014 in the Pearl River Delta(PRD)region. The meteorological parameters, gas data, chemical compositions, and optical parameters of the aerosols were obtained. Among these events, the second haze episode,with the highest concentration of PM2.5 of 187.51 μg/m^3, was the most severe. NO^3-was always higher than SO_4^(2-), which indicated that motor vehicles played an important role in the haze, even though the oxidation rate from SO_2 to SO_4^(2-)was faster than that of NOXto NO_3^-. The difference between the hourly averages of Na+and K+during the haze episode and clean days was small, implying that straw combustion and sea salt had no significant effect on the occurrence of haze, and the backward trajectories of the air masses also conformed with this result. The air pollutants were difficult to disperse because of the significant decrease in the planetary boundary layer(PBL) height. | 8 | Effects of mild hypothermia on the ROS and expression of caspase-3 m RNA and LC3 of hippocampus nerve cells in rats after cardiopulmonary resuscitation显示文摘BACKGROUND: Cardiac arrest(CA) is a common and serious event in emergency medicine. Despite recent improvements in resuscitation techniques, the survival rate of patients with CA is unchanged. The present study was undertaken to observe the effect of mild hypothermia(MH) on the reactive oxygen species(ROS) and the effect of neurological function and related mechanisms.METHODS: Sixty-five healthy male Sprague Dawley(SD) adult rats were randomly(random number) divided into 2 groups: blank control group(n=5) and CPR group(n=60). CA was induced by asphyxia. The surviving rats were randomly(random number) divided into two groups: normothermia CPR group(NT) and hypothermia CPR group(HT). Normothermia of 37 °C was maintained in the NT group after return of spontaneous circulation(ROSC), hypothermal intervention of 32 °C was carried out in the HT group for 4 hours immediately after ROSC. Both the NT and HT groups were then randomly divided into 2 subgroups 12 hours and 24 hours after ROSC(NT-12, NT-24, HT-12, HT-24 subgroups). During observation, the neurological defi cit scores(NDSs) was recorded, then the bilateral hippocampi were obtained from rats' head, and monoplast suspension of fresh hippocampus tissue was made immediately to determine the level of intracellular ROS by flow cytometry. Transmission electron microscope was used to observe the ultramicro changes of cellular nucleus and mitochondria. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) was used to determine the expression of caspase-3 m RNA, and western-blotting(WB) was used to determine the level of LC3 in frozen hippocampus tissue. Measured data were analyzed with paired sample t test and One-Way ANOVA.RESULTS: Of 60 rats with CA, 44(73%) were successfully resuscitated and 33(55%) survived until the end of the experiment. The NDSs of rats in the NT and HT groups were more signifi cantly reduced than those in the BC group(F=8.107, P<0.05), whereas the NDSs of rats in the HT-12 and HT-24 subgroups were significantly increased in comparison with those NDSs of rats in the NT-12 and NT-24 subgroups, respectively(t=9.692, P<0.001; t=14.374, P<0.001). The ROS in hippocampus nerve cells in the NT and HT groups signifi cantly increased compared to the BC group(F=16.824, P<0.05), whereas the ROS in the HT-12 and HT-24 subgroups significantly reduced compared with that ROS in the NT-12 and NT-24 subgroups, respectively(t=9.836, P<0.001; t=7.499, P<0.001). The expression of caspase-3 m RNA in hippocampus nerve cells in the NT and HT groups were signifi cantly increased compared to the BC group(F=24.527, P<0.05), whereas the expression of caspase-3 m RNA in rats of the HT-12 and HT-24 subgroups was signifi cantly reduced compared to the NT-12 and NT-24 subgroups, respectively(t=6.935, P<0.001; t=4.317, P<0.001). The expression of LC3B-II/I in hippocampus nerve cells of rats in the NT and HT groups signifi cantlyincreased compared to the BC group(F=6.584, P<0.05), whereas the expression of LC3B-II/I in rats of the HT-12 and HT-24 subgroups significantly reduced compared to the NT-12 and NT-24 subgroups, respectively(t=10.836, P<0.001; t=2.653, P=0.02). | 12 | Wall shear stress in portal vein of cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension显示文摘AIM To investigate wall shear stress(WSS) magnitude and distribution in cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension using computational fluid dynamics. METHODS Idealized portal vein(PV) system models were reconstructed with different angles of the PV-splenic vein(SV) and superior mesenteric vein(SMV)-SV. Patient-specific models were created according to enhanced computed tomography images. WSS was simulated by using a finite-element analyzer, regarding the blood as a Newtonian fluid and the vessel as a rigid wall. Analysis was carried out to compare the WSSin the portal hypertension group with that in healthy controls.RESULTS For the idealized models, WSS in the portal hypertension group(0-10 dyn/cm2) was significantly lower than that in the healthy controls(10-20 dyn/cm2), and low WSS area(0-1 dyn/cm2) only occurred in the left wall of the PV in the portal hypertension group. Different angles of PV-SV and SMV-SV had different effects on the magnitude and distribution of WSS, and low WSS area often occurred in smaller PV-SV angle and larger SMV-SV angle. In the patient-specific models, WSS in the cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension(10.13 ± 1.34 dyn/cm2) was also significantly lower than that in the healthy controls(P < 0.05). Low WSS area often occurred in the junction area of SV and SMV into the PV, in the area of the division of PV into left and right PV, and in the outer wall of the curving SV in the control group. A procedure combining particle swarm optimization (PSO) and finite element analysis (FEA) has been proposed. Numerical examples for the reliability design optimization (RDO) of a laminate and a composite cylindrical shell are worked out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method. Then a design for composite pressure vessels is studied. The advantages and necessity of RDO over the conventional equi-strength design are addressed. Examples show that the proposed method has good stability and is efficient in dealing with the probabilistic optimal design of composite structures. | 16 | Identification and expression of the CEP gene family in apple (Malus×domestica)显示文摘Plant peptide hormones play important roles in plant growth and development. Among these hormones, the C-TERMINALLYENCODED PEPTIDE(CEP) belongs to a newly found peptide family that regulates root development in Arabidopsis as well as in other species. However, nothing is known about the CEP genes in apple(Malus×domestica, MdCEP). In this study, a total of 27 apple CEP genes were identified through a genome-wide analysis and were phylogenetically divided into three classes(Ⅰ, Ⅱ and Ⅲ). The predicted MdCEP genes were distributed across 10 of 17 chromosomes with different densities. Next, the gene structures and motif compositions of the MdCEP genes were analyzed. Subsequently, the expression analysis suggested that the MdCEP genes were highly activated in roots and that MdCEP23 may play an important role in regulating the growth and development of roots. Moreover, all of the MdCEP genes were responsive to multiple abiotic stresses, indicating that MdCEP genes may be involved with various aspects of physiological processes in apple. Nearly one-third of MdCEP genes had a significant response to low nitrogen treatment. Most of the MdCEP genes were up-regulated under stress, including mannitol, polyethylene glycol(PEG) and abscisic acid(ABA), suggesting that MdCEP genes may be involved in the drought stress response. | 18 | Analysis of 72 patients with colorectal high-grade neuroendocrine neoplasms from three Chinese hospitals显示文摘BACKGROUND Colorectal high-grade neuroendocrine neoplasms(HGNENs)are rare and constitute less than 1%of all colorectal malignancies.Based on their morphological differentiation and proliferation identity,these neoplasms present heterogeneous clinicopathologic features.Opinions regarding treatment strategies for and improvement of the clinical outcomes of these patients remain controversial.AIM To delineate the clinicopathologic features of and explore the prognostic factors for this rare malignancy.METHODS This observational study reviewed the data of 72 consecutive patients with colorectal HGNENs from three Chinese hospitals between 2000 and 2019.The clinicopathologic characteristics and follow-up data were carefully collected from their medical records,outpatient reexaminations,and telephone interviews.A survival analysis was conducted to evaluate their outcomes and to identify the prognostic factors for this disease.RESULTS According to the latest recommendations for the classification and nomenclature of colorectal HGNENs,61(84.7%)patients in our cohort had poorly differentiated neoplasms,which were categorized as high-grade neuroendocrine carcinomas(HGNECs),and the remaining 11(15.3%)patients had well differentiated neoplasms,which were categorized as high-grade neuroendocrine tumors(HGNETs).Most of the neoplasms(63.9%)were located at the rectum.More than half of the patients(51.4%)presented with distant metastasis at the date of diagnosis.All patients were followed for a median duration of 15.5 mo.In the entire cohort,the median survival time was 31 mo,and the 3-year and 5-year survival rates were 44.3%and 36.3%,respectively.Both the univariate and multivariate analyses demonstrated that increasing age,HGNEC type,and distant metastasis were risk factors for poor clinical outcomes.CONCLUSION Colorectal HGNENs are rare and aggressive malignancies with poor clinical outcomes.However,patients with younger age,good morphological differentiation,and without metastatic disease can have a relatively favorable prognosis. | Zhi-Jie Wang Ke An Rui Li Wei Shen Man-Dula Bao Jin-Hua Tao Jia-Nan Chen Shi-Wen Mei Hai-Yu Shen Yun-Bin Ma Fu-Qiang Zhao Fang-Ze Wei Qian Liu | 2019 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,34: | 5 |
