1Multidimensional Projections for Visual Analysis of Social Networks显示文摘Visual analysis of social networks is usually based on graph drawing algorithms and tools.However,social networks are a special kind of graph in the sense that interpretation of displayed relationships is heavily dependent on context.Context,in its turn,is given by attributes associated with graph elements,such as individual nodes,edges,and groups of edges,as well as by the nature of the connections between individuals.In most systems,attributes of individuals and communities are not taken into consideration during graph layout,except to derive weights for force-based placement strategies.This paper proposes a set of novel tools for displaying and exploring social networks based on attribute and connectivity mappings.These properties are employed to layout nodes on the plane via multidimensional projection techniques.For the attribute mapping,we show that node proximity in the layout corresponds to similarity in attribute,leading to easiness in locating similar groups of nodes.The projection based on connectivity yields an initial placement that forgoes force-based or graph analysis algorithm,reaching a meaningful layout in one pass.When a force algorithm is then applied to this initial mapping,the final layout presents better properties than conventional force-based approaches.Numerical evaluations show a number of advantages of pre-mapping points via projections.User evaluation demonstrates that these tools promote ease of manipulation as well as fast identification of concepts and associations which cannot be easily expressed by conventional graph visualization alone.In order to allow better space usage for complex networks,a graph mapping on the surface of a sphere is also implemented.Rafael Messias Martins Gabriel Faria Andery Henry Heberle Fernando Vieira Paulovich Alneu de Andrade Lopes Helio Pedrini Rosane Minghim 2012Journal of Computer Science & Technology2012,27,4:6
2Emerging agents that target signaling pathways to eradicate colorectal cancer stem cells显示文摘Colorectal cancer(CRC)represents the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide.The modern concept of cancer biology indicates that cancer is formed of a small population of cells called cancer stem cells(CSCs),which present both pluripotency and self-renewal properties.These cells are considered responsible for the progression of the disease,recurrence and tumor resistance.Interestingly,some cell signaling pathways participate in CRC survival,proliferation,and selfrenewal properties,and most of them are dysregulated in CSCs,including the Wingless(Wnt)/β-catenin,Notch,Hedgehog,nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB),Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription(JAK/STAT),peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor(PPAR),phosphatidyl-inositol-3-kinase/Akt/mechanistic target of rapamycin(PI3K/Akt/mTOR),and transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β)/Smad pathways.In this review,we summarize the strategies for eradicating CRC stem cells by modulating these dysregulated pathways,which will contribute to the study of potential therapeutic schemes,combining conventional drugs with CSC-targeting drugs,and allowing better cure rates in anti-CRC therapy.Valdenizia R.Silva Luciano de S.Santos Rosane B.Dias Claudio A.Quadros Daniel P.Bezerra 2021Cancer Communications2021,41,12:3

12Rainfall partitioning in young clonal plantations Eucalyptus species in a subtropical environment,and implications for water and forest management显示文摘Different canopy characteristics of industrial eucalyptus may lead to differences in water evaporation and availability to plants.This study aims to understand rainfall partitioning in a young clonal plantation(age of 2-4.5 years)of three eucalyptus species by relating tree parameters:diameter at breast height,total height,and leaf area index.We measured rainfall,throughfall,stemflow and litter interception,along with the tree parameters.The eucalyptus trees had rainfall interception varying between 22 mm(for 178 mm of rainfall)and 42 mm(for 87 mm of te rainfall),throughfall between 106 mm(for 186 mm of rainfall)and 44 mm(for 74 mm of rainfall),and stemflow between 0.5 mm(for 92 mm of rainfall)and 1.4 mm(for 24 mm of rainfall).For the three species,rainfall interception varied between 12 and 48%,throughfall between 57 and 90%,and stemflow between 0.3 and 5.4%.The coefficient of determination between interception and rainfall was 0.76,indicating interception depends on other variables,possibly including antecedent rainfall,rainfall intensity,and seasonality.Interception decreased with a reduction in leaf area index caused by eucalyptus defoliation.The E.benthamii had 0.75 mm of throughfall per 1 mm of rainfall,whereas in E.dunnii and E saligna,these ratios were 0.71 and 0.68,respectively.Stemflow in E.benthamii and E.dunii had a higher positive relationship with the diameter at breast height of the trees,whereas in E.saligna the highest relationship was with the rainfall.These results contribute to establishing management strategies,such as choosing suitable eucalyptus species to local climate,and to improve the synchronization of crop-demand versus soil-water-supply while maintaining streamflow to fulfill ecological and production needs.Decio Oscar Cardoso Ferreto JoséMiguel Reichert Rosane Barbosa Lopes Cavalcante Raghavan Srinivasan 2021International Soil and Water Conservation Research2021,9,3:1
