1Synergistic Effect of Metal Nanoparticles on the Antimicrobial Activities of Antibiotics against Biorecycling Microbes显示文摘Biorecycling microbes,which have critical functionalities in natural cycles,are essential to sustain ecosystem of the earth.Any alterations in these cycles caused by the mutations of microbes could be a potential threat to life on earth.Antibiotics leached from pharmaceutical waste,animal food and agribusiness products are accumulating in the environment.Metal nanoparticles are also accumulating in environment because of their extensive use as biocidal agent in domestic products.Interaction of antibiotics and metal nanoparticles with eco-friendly microorganisms has a potential to alter the ecosystem of the earth.In this article,we have studied the antibacterial activities of silver and copper nanoparticles and their formulations with antibiotics,tetracycline,and kanamycin against biorecycling microbes,Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas fluorescens.Strong synergistic effect of metal nanoparticles on the antimicrobial activities of commercial antibiotics has been observed.Antimicrobial activity of tetracycline improves by 286%–346% and 0%–28% when being tested in the presence of 250 ppm of silver and copper nanoparticles,respectively.For kanamycin,the improvement is 154%–289% for silver and 3%–20% for copper nanoparticles.Irrespective of the antibiotics and tested organisms,synergy is more prominent for silver nanoparticles even at their minimum active concentration(100 ppm).This study demonstrates that the combination of metal nanoparticles with antibiotics could be more fatal to ecosystem than either the metal nanoparticles or the antibiotics alone.Chandni Khurana Purnima Sharma O.E Pandey Bhupendra Chudasama 2016Journal of Materials Science & Technology2016,32,6:5
2Development and evaluation of lafutidine solid dispersion via hot melt extrusion:Investigating drug-polymer miscibility with advanced characterisation显示文摘In current study,immediate release solid dispersion(SD)formulation of antiulcer drug lafutidine(LAFT)was developed using hot melt extrusion(HME)technique.Amphiphilic Soluplusused as a primary solubilizing agent,with different concentrations of selected surfactants like PEG 400,Lutrol F127(LF127),Lutrol F68(LF68)were used to investigate their influence on formulations processing via HME.Prepared amorphous glassy solid dispersion was found to be thermodynamically and physicochemically stable.On the contrary,traces of crystalline LAFT not observed in the extrudates according to differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and Raman spectroscopy.Raman micro spectrometry had the lowest detection limit of LAFT crystals compared with XRD and DSC.Atomic Force microscopy(AFM)studies revealed drugpolymer molecular miscibility and surface interaction at micro level.1HeCOSY NMR spectroscopy confirmed miscibility and interaction between LAFT and Soluplus,with chemical shift drifting and line broadening.MD simulation studies using computational modelling showed intermolecular interaction between molecules.Dissolution rate and solubility of LAFT was enhanced remarkably in developed SD systems.Optimized ratio of polymer and surfactants played crucial role in dissolution rate enhancement of LAFT SD.The obtained results suggested that developed LAFT has promising potential for oral delivery and might be an efficacious approach for enhancing the therapeutic potential of LAFT.Ritesh Fule Purnima Amin 2014Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences2014,9,2:4
3Visualizing Photodynamic Therapy in Transgenic Zebrafish Using Organic Nanoparticles with Aggregation-Induced Emission显示文摘Photodynamic therapy(PDT) employs accumulation of photosensitizers(PSs) in malignant tumor tissue followed by the light-induced generation of cytotoxic reactive oxygen species to kill the tumor cells. The success of PDT depends on optimal PS dosage that is matched with the ideal power of light. This in turn depends on PS accumulation in target tissue and light administration time and period.As theranostic nanomedicine is driven by multifunctional therapeutics that aim to achieve targeted tissue delivery and image-guided therapy, fluorescent PS nanoparticle(NP)accumulation in target tissues can be ascertained through fluorescence imaging to optimize the light dose and administration parameters. In this regard, zebrafish larvae provide a unique transparent in vivo platform to monitor fluorescent PS bio-distribution and their therapeutic efficiency. 4A survey on control issues in renewable energy integration and microgrid显示文摘This paper describes the usefulness of renewable energy throughout the world to generate power. Renewable energy adds a remarkable scope in power system. Renewable energy sources act as the prime mover of a microgrid. The Microgrid is a small network of power system with distributed generation (DG) units connected in parallel. The integration challenges of renewable energy sources and the control of microgrid are described in this paper. The varied nature of DG system produces voltage and frequency deviation. The unknown nature of the load produces un-modeled dynamics. This un-modeled dynamic introduces measurable effects on the performance of the microgrid. This paper investigates the performance of the microgrid against different scenarios. The voltage of the microgrid is controlled by using different controllers and their results are also investigated. 5Comparative response of seedlings of selected native dry tropical and alien invasive species to CO_(2) enrichment显示文摘Global climate change and ongoing plant invasion are the two prominent ecological issues threatening biodiversity world wide.Among invasive species,Lantana camara and Hyptis suaveolens are the two most important invaders in the dry deciduous forest in India.We monitored the growth of these two invasive species and seedlings of four native dry deciduous species(Acacia catechu,Bauhinia variegata,Dalbergia latifolia and Tectona grandis)under ambient(375–395μmol mol^(-1))and elevated CO_(2)(700–750μmol mol^(-1))to study the differential growth response of invasive and native seedlings.Methods Seedlings of all the species were exposed to ambient and elevated CO_(2).After 60 days of exposure,seedlings were harvested and all the growth-related parameters like plant height;biomass of root,stem and leaves;total seedling biomass;R/S ratio;allocation parameters;net assimilation rate(NAR)and relative growth rate(RGR)were determined.Important Findings Biomass,RGR and NAR of all the species increased under elevated CO_(2)but the increase was higher in invasive species and they formed larger seedlings than natives.Therefore under the CO_(2)-enriched future atmosphere,competitive hierarchies could change and may interfere with the species composition of the invaded area.Purnima Raizada Anamika Singh A.S.Raghubanshi 2009Journal of Plant Ecology2009,2,2:2

10Antecedents and sex/gender differences in youth suicidal behavior显示文摘Suicide is the second leading cause of death in youth globally; however, there is uncertainty about how best to intervene. Suicide rates are typically higher in males than females, while the converse is true for suicide attempts. We review this 'gender paradox' in youth, and in particular, the age-dependency of these sex/gender differences and the developmental mechanisms that may explain them. Epidemiologic, genetic,neurodevelopmental and psychopathological research have identified suicidal behaviour risks arising from genetic vulnerabilities and sex/gender differences in early adverse environments, neurodevelopment, mental disorder and their complex interconnections. Further, evolving sex-/gender-defined social expectations and norms have been thought to influence suicide risk. In particular, how youth perceive and cope with threats and losses(including conforming to others' or one's own expectations of sex/gender identity) and adapt to pain(through substance use and helpseeking behaviours). Taken together, considering brain plasticity over the lifespan, these proposed antecedents to youth suicide highlight the importance of interventions that alter early environment(s)(e.g., childhood maltreatment) and/or one's ability to adapt to them. 17Comparative Analysis of Protein-Protein Interactions in Cancer-Associated Genes显示文摘Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) have been widely studied to understand the biological processes or molecular functions associated with different disease systems like cancer. While focused studies on individual cancers have generated valuable information, global and comparative analysis of datasets from different cancer types has not been done. In this work, we carried out bioinformatic analysis of PPIs corresponding to differentially expressed genes from microarrays of various tumor tissues (belonging to bladder, colon, kidney and thyroid cancers) and compared their associated biological processes and molecular functions (based on Gene Ontology terms). We identified a set of processes or functions that are common to all these cancers, as well as those that are specific to only one or partial cancer types. Similarly, protein interaction networks in nucleic acid metabolism were compared to identify the common/specific clusters of proteins across different cancer types. Our results provide a basis for further experimental investigations to study protein interaction networks associated with cancer.
