1New technologies to investigate the brain-gut axis显示文摘Functional gastrointestinal disorders are commonly encountered in clinical practice, and pain is their commonest presenting symptom. In addition, patients with these disorders often demonstrate a heightened sensitivity to experimental visceral stimulation, termed visceral pain hypersensitivity that is likely to be important in their pathophysiology. Knowledge of how the brain processes sensory information from visceral structures is still in its infancy. However, our understanding has been propelled by technological imaging advances such as functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Positron Emission To-mography, Magnetoencephalography, and Electroen-cephalography (EEG). Numerous human studies have non-invasively demonstrated the complexity involved in functional pain processing, and highlighted a number of subcortical and cortical regions involved. This review will focus on the neurophysiological pathways (primary afferents, spinal and supraspinal transmission), brain- imaging techniques and the influence of endogenous and psychological processes in healthy controls and patients suffering from functional gastrointestinal dis- orders. Special attention will be paid to the newer EEG source analysis techniques. Understanding the pheno- typic differences that determine an individual's response to injurious stimuli could be the key to understanding why some patients develop pain and hyperalgesia in response to inflammation/injury while others do not. 4Modelling of massive particulates for breakwater engineering using coupled FEMDEM and CFD显示文摘The seaward slope of many breakwaters consists of thousands of interlocking units of rock or concrete comprising a massive granular system of large elements each weighing tens of tonnes. The dumped quarry materials in the core are protected by progressively coarser particulates. The outer armour layer of freely placed units is intended to both dissipate wave energy and remain structurally stable as strong flows are drawn in and out of the particulate core. Design guidance on the mass and shape of these units is based on empirical equations derived from scaled physical model tests. The main failure mode for armour layers exposed to severe storms is hydraulic instability where the armour units of concrete or rock are subjected to uplift and drag forces which can in turn lead to rocking, displacement and collisions sufficient to cause breakage of units. Recently invented armour unit designs making up such granular layered system owe much of their success to the desirable emergent properties of interlock and porosity and how these combine with individual unit structural strength and inertial mass. Fundamental understanding of the forces governing such wave-structure interaction remains poor. We use discrete element and combined finite-discrete element methods to model the granular solid skeleton of randomly packed units coupled to a CFD code which resolves the wave dynamics through an interface tracking technique. The CFD code exploits several methods including a compressive advection scheme, node movement, and general mesh optimization. 10A simplified approach to assess seismic stability of tailings dams显示文摘In the zones of high seismic activity, tailings dam should be assessed for the stability against earthquake forces. In the present paper, a simplified method is proposed to compute the factor of safety of tailings dams. The strain-dependent dynamic properties are used to assess the stability of tailings dams under seismic conditions. The effect of foundation soil properties on the seismic stability of tailings dams is studied using the proposed method. For the given input parameters, the factor of safety for lowfrequency input motions is nearly 26% lower than that for high-frequency input excitations. The impedance ratio and the depth of foundation have significant effect on the seismic factor of safety of tailings dams. The results from the proposed method are well compared with the existing pseudo-static method of analysis. 12Seismic passive earth resistance using modified pseudo-dynamic method显示文摘In earthquake prone areas,understanding of the seismic passive earth resistance is very important for the design of different geotechnical earth retaining structures.In this study,the limit equilibrium method is used for estimation of critical seismic passive earth resistance for an inclined wall supporting horizontal cohesionless backfill.A composite failure surface is considered in the present analysis.Seismic forces are computed assuming the backfill soil as a viscoelastic material overlying a rigid stratum and the rigid stratum is subjected to a harmonic shaking.The present method satisfies the boundary conditions.The amplification of acceleration depends on the properties of the backfill soil and on the characteristics of the input motion.The acceleration distribution along the depth of the backfill is found to be nonlinear in nature.The present study shows that the horizontal and vertical acceleration distribution in the backfill soil is not always in-phase for the critical value of the seismic passive earth pressure coefficient.The effect of different parameters on the seismic passive earth pressure is studied in detail.A comparison of the present method with other theories is also presented,which shows the merits of the present study.Anindya Pain Deepankar Choudhury S. 13非结构网格空气质量模式对东亚强沙尘暴的初步模拟研究显示文摘基于中国科学院大气物理研究所自主研发的嵌套网格空气质量数值预报模式(NAQPMS)和英国帝国理工学院应用计算与建模小组(AMCG)研制的有限元流体模式(Fluidity),构建了非结构网格沙尘传输模式(Fluidity-Dust),并模拟再现了2010年3月19-22日东亚强沙尘暴整个暴发、演变的三维立体动态过程,从整体上对这次沙尘事件有了全新的直观认识和了解。通过利用FY-2D卫星沙尘反演资料及MODIS(Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer)卫星反演的气溶胶光学厚度(AOD)资料,可对模拟结果进行整体上对比验证;同时,利用中国9个城市站点的PM10(空气动力学当量直径小于等于10μm的颗粒物,即可吸入颗粒物)地面观测资料以及日本多个站点的激光雷达资料,逐一对比分析了不同地区PM10的时空分布以及沙尘传输经过时的垂直分布情况;并与NAQPMS模式的沙尘模拟结果进行了模式间的对比分析。对比结果均表明:该模式具有较好的模拟能力,能很好地模拟再现整个沙尘暴过程,为今后进一步运用自适应变网格技术以实现对沙尘暴的高精度追踪模拟奠定了基础。不同模式比较是量化模拟不确定性的重要方法。以往沙尘输送模式比较研究表明:起沙量模拟的不确定性是沙尘暴数值模拟的最大不确定来源。本文通过两个具有相同起沙方案的模式对同一沙尘事件的模拟,发现不同的平流方案以及不同的沉降计算也会对沙尘过程模拟产生重要影响。郑捷 王自发 朱江 李杰 FANG F PAIN C C 2016气候与环境研究2016,21,6:2
