1Primary gastrointestinal lymphoma显示文摘Gastrointestinal tract is the most common extranodal site involved by lymphoma with the majority being non-Hodgkin type.Although lymphoma can involve any part of the gastrointestinal tract,the most frequent sites in order of its occurrence are the stomach followed by small intestine and ileocecal region.Gastrointestinal tract lymphoma is usually secondary to the widespread nodal diseases and primary gastrointestinal tract lymphoma is relatively rare.Gastrointestinal lymphomas are usually not clinically specific and indistinguishable from other benign and malignant conditions.Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is the most common pathological type of gastrointestinal lymphoma in essentially all sites of the gastrointestinal tract,although recently the frequency of other forms has also increased in certain regions of the world.Although some radiological features such as bulky lymph nodes and maintenance of fat plane are more suggestive of lymphoma,they are not specific,thus mandating histopathological analysis for its definitive diagnosis.There has been a tremendous leap in the diagnosis,staging and management of gastrointestinal lymphoma in the last two decades attributed to a better insight into its etiology and molecular aspect as well as the knowledge about its critical signaling pathways.Prasanna Ghimire 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,6:53
2Active learning in materials science with emphasis on adaptive sampling using uncertainties for targeted design显示文摘One of the main challenges in materials discovery is efficiently exploring the vast search space for targeted properties as approaches that rely on trial-and-error are impractical.We review how methods from the information sciences enable us to accelerate the search and discovery of new materials.In particular,active learning allows us to effectively navigate the search space iteratively to identify promising candidates for guiding experiments and computations.The approach relies on the use of uncertainties and making predictions from a surrogate model together with a utility function that prioritizes the decision making process on unexplored data.We discuss several utility functions and demonstrate their use in materials science applications,impacting both experimental and computational research.We summarize by indicating generalizations to multiple properties and multifidelity data,and identify challenges,future directions and opportunities in the emerging field of materials informatics.Turab Lookman Prasanna V.Balachandran Dezhen Xue Ruihao Yuan 2019npj Computational Materials2019,,1:28
3A study on the mixing proportion in groundwater samples by using Piper diagram and Phreeqc model显示文摘Piper (1944) diagram has been the basis for several important interpretations of the hydrogeochemical data. As seen in this diagram, most natural waters contain relatively few dissolved constituents, with cations (metals or bases) and anions (acid radicles) in chemical equilibrium with one another. Apart from the facies representation, the composition of the mixed sample can be identified in terms of the composition of the parental solution. To bring out this advantage of the Piper diagram, a study was conducted in the Kalpakkam region of Tamilnadu, South India. By taking the geology and water table into consideration, two sample locations were selected as parent solution and third one as the mixture sample. All three samples were analyzed for calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), potassium (K), chloride (Cl), sulphate (SO4) and phosphate (PO4) by Ion Chromatograph (Metrohm IC 861). HCO3 was determined by volumetric titration. The Piper diagram shows that parent solutions clustered towards Na-Mg-Ca-HCO3-Cl and Na-HCO3 facies, and the mixing sample belongs to Na-Mg-HCO3 facies. Phreeqc interac-tive (Ver 2.8) along with the original composition of the mixture sample was used to correlate the mixing proportion identified by the Piper diagram.Karmegam U. Chidambaram S. 4Automatic feeding mechanism of a vegetable transplanter显示文摘An automatic feeding mechanism consisting of a timing shaft,an actuating device and a clutch for feeding paper pot seedlings from a horizontal slat type chain conveyor to a horizontal pusher type chain conveyor of a vegetable transplanter,was developed.The slat type chain conveyor carried the pot seedlings in upright orientation in the form of a rectangular array with each linear array of pot seedlings on a slat.The pusher type chain conveyor received a linear array of pot seedlings and delivered them to the seedling drop tube.Feeding of each linear array of pot seedlings to the pusher type conveyor at appropriate times was done using an automatic feeding mechanism.The laboratory evaluation indicated that the feeding rate of 33 to 50 pot seedlings per minute can be achieved with single set of conveyors.The feeding mechanism also worked effectively under actual field conditions with 98%to 99%of all the pot seedlings,which were properly separated and fed for planting when the forward speed of the vegetable transplanter was 0.9 km/h.The feeding mechanism has the general application of singulating rectangular array of items on the slat type chain conveyor in any industry and machine in motion on a level surface.Prasanna Kumar G.V H.Raheman 2012International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2012,5,2:14

6Antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects of Hypsizygus ulmarius polysaccharide on alcoholic liver injury in rats显示文摘Hypsizygus ulmarius polysaccharide(HUP)is a water-soluble polysaccharide obtained by hot water extraction,followed by precipitation and deproteinization.The characteristics of HUP,antioxidant activity and liver protection against alcohol-induced liver damage were studied.Structural characteristics indicate that the HUP is a pyran-type polysaccharide with a molecular weight of 2076 Da.In antioxidant scavenging assay,HUP showed moderate DMPD radical scavenging activity,cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity and inhibitory effect against lipid peroxidation in a dose-dependent manner.Regarding in vivo hepatoprotective activity,compared with the ethanol induction group,pre-treatment of low and high doses of HUP signifi cantly reduced the behaviours of serum enzymes,lowered the levels of hepatic oxidative stress markers,restored the levels of biochemical constituents,enhanced the levels of liver and serum enzymatic antioxidants and non-enzymatic antioxidants,and improved the serum lipid levels of alcohol-intoxicated rats.The hepatoprotective effect of HUP was comparable to positive control silymarin.Besides,HUP pre-treatment signifi cantly normalized the histopathological changes induced by ethanol.The results indicate that HUP could be used as a functional food and may protect the biological system from oxidative stress through its antioxidant activity,thus having a signifi cant protective effect on acute alcoholic liver injury.Sudha Govindan Angu Jayabal Jayasakthi Shanmugam Prasanna Ramani 2021Food Science and Human Wellness2021,10,4:6
7Understanding nutrient build-up on urban road surfaces显示文摘This article discusses the outcomes of a research project on nutrients build-up on urban road surfaces.Nutrient build-up was investigated on road sites belonging to residential,industrial and commercial land use.Collected build-up samples were separated into five particle size ranges and were tested for total nitrogen (TN),total phosphorus (TP) and sub species of nutrients,namely,NO 2- ,NO 3- ,TKN and PO 43-.Multivariate analytical techniques were used to analyse the data and to develop detailed understanding on build- up.Data analysis revealed that the solids loads on urban road surfaces are highly influenced by factors such as land use,antecedent dry period and traffic volume.However,the nutrient build-up process was found to be independent of the type of land use.It was solely dependent on the particle size of solids build-up.Most of the nutrients were associated with the particle size range <150 μm.Therefore,the removal of particles below 150 μm from road surfaces is of importance for the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus from road surface solids build-up.It is also important to consider the difference in the composition of nitrogen and phosphorus build-up in the context of designing effective stormwater quality mitigation strategies.Nandika Prasadani Miguntanna Ashantha Goonetilleke Prasanna Egodowatta Serge Kokot 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,6:5
8Antimicrobial metabolites from marine microorganisms显示文摘Marine ecological niches have recently been described as 'particularly promising' sources for search of new antimicrobials to combat antibiotic-resistant strains of pathogenic microorganisms. Marine organisms are excellent sources for many industrial products, but they are partly explored. Over 30 000 compounds have been isolated from marine sources. Bacteria, fungi, and cyanobacteria obtained from various marine sources secret several industrially useful bioactive compounds, possessing antibacterial, antifungal, and antimycobacterial activities. Sustainable cultivation methods for promising marine organisms and biotechnological processes for selected compounds can be developed, along with the establishment of biosensors for monitoring the target compounds. The semisynthetic modifications of marine-based bioactive compounds produce their new derivatives, structural analogs and mimetics that could serve as novel lead compounds against resistant pathogens. 10胃肠道外周T细胞淋巴瘤CT征象分析显示文摘目的分析胃肠道外周T细胞淋巴瘤(peripheral T-cell lymphomas,PTCLs)CT特征及其与临床病理联系。资料与方法回顾性分析经病理证实的15例胃肠道PTCLs,分析病变部位、数目、形态、强化方式、淋巴结肿大、其他器官受累及并发症等CT征象;并与胃肠道B细胞淋巴瘤CT特点进行比较。结果 15例胃肠道PTCL中胃受累6例,肠道受累(即肠病相关T细胞淋巴瘤,enteropathy-associated T-cell lymphoma,EATL)9例。7例为多发病灶(46.7%),8例为单发病灶(53.3%)。1例EATL表现为息肉型,其余14例表现为管壁增厚型,其中轻度增厚3例,中度增厚10例,显著增厚1例。9例病灶轻度均匀强化,6例病灶轻度不均匀强化。5例伴弥漫性非显著性淋巴结肿大,3例伴局限性非显著性淋巴结肿大。4例合并其他脏器病变,1例并发胃穿孔,5例(5/9,55.6%)并发肠穿孔。9例EATL平均年龄37.1岁,累及结肠5例,回肠1例,回盲部1例,回肠、回盲部同时受累1例,回、结肠同时受累1例;结肠受累共6例(6/9,66.9%)。结论胃肠道PTCLs的CT表现具有一定特征性;与B细胞淋巴瘤相比,PTCLs病变易多发,多为轻中度管壁增厚型;易合并胃肠穿孔;与西方国家比较,国人EATL多见于青年男性,呈结肠易受累的趋势。朱凌 吴光耀 Prasanna Ghimire 徐丽莹 2011临床放射学杂志2011,30,7:4

13Is non-biological treatment of rheumatoid arthritis as good as biologics?显示文摘The management of rheumatoid arthritis(RA) in the past three decades has undergone a paradigm shift from symptomatic relief to a 'treat-to-target' approach. This has been possible through use of various conventional and biologic disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs(DMARDs) which target disease pathogenesis at a molecular level. Cost and infection risk preclude regular use of biologics in resource-constrained settings. 14Role of adsorption behavior on metal build-up in urban road dust显示文摘Metal pollution of stormwater runoff can cause potential toxic impacts on the receiving water environment and human health. Effective pollution mitigation requires accurate stormwater quality modeling. Even though a significant knowledge base exists on the factors influencing metal build-up on urban roads, very limited studies have investigated how metal–particulate interaction influences metal build-up. This study quantitatively assessed the influence of particulate characteristics, together with vehicular traffic and land use, on the build-up of Zn, Cu, Pb, Cr, Ni and Cd on urban roads. The study outcomes revealed that the variability in metal build-up is highly influenced by the variability associated with metal adsorption to particulates. The percentage contribution from particulate properties influencing metal adsorption in the case of < 150 μm size road dust particles was found to be higher(Zn 44%, Cu 52%, Cr 16%, Ni 27% and Cd 45%) when compared to traffic and land use characteristics(Zn 21%, Cu 13%, Cr and Ni <10% and Cd 34%). Similar adsorption behavior was noted for metals associated with > 150 μm size road dust particles. Among different particulate properties influencing metal adsorption, effective cation exchange capacity showed a strong positive relationship with the build-up of Cd compared to other metals,highlighting the potential role of Cd in stormwater quality as a readily available metal. The build-up of metals such as Cr and Ni are highly influenced by metal oxides of Al, Fe and Mn and clay forming minerals, indicating that Cr and Ni are relatively stable in nature.Ayomi Jayarathne Buddhi Wijesiri Prasanna Egodawatta Godwin A. 15p-Coumaric acid ameliorates ethanol-induced kidney injury by inhibiting inflammatory cytokine production and NF-κB signaling in rats显示文摘Objective: To examine the effects of p-coumaric acid on ethanol-induced kidney injury in Swiss Wistar rats.Methods: Ethanol(25% v/v) was used to induce nephrotoxicity in rats. p-Coumaric acid was orally administered at 50, 100, or 200 mg/kg body weight. The levels of oxidative parameters were determined; pro-inflammatory biomarkers were analyzed by Western blotting and apoptotic protein was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. Results: Ethanol treated rats showed decreased levels of antioxidants and aberrant production of pro-inflammatory cytokines(IL-6, IL1β, TNF-α), NF-κB activation and imbalance of proand anti-apoptotic proteins(Bcl-2, Bax, caspase 3). Meanwhile, p-coumaric acid restored antioxidant levels and decreased the levels of inflammatory cytokines, NF-κB, and proapoptotic proteins and increased Bcl-2 expression. 17Rapunzel syndrome:A rare presentation with multiple small intestinal intussusceptions显示文摘Bezoars are usually confined to the stomach which is seen in individuals with psychiatric illness like trichotillomania,trichophagia and gastric dysmotility.Long standing bezoars may extend into the small intestine leading to a condition known as Rapunzel syndrome.Diagnosis can be established by endoscopy,ultrasonography and computed tomography scan.Treatment includes improvement of general condition and removal of bezoar by laparoscopic approach or laparotomy.Psychiatric consultation is necessary to treat and prevent relapse.We report a case of Rapunzel syndrome in a 16-yearold girl with trichotillomania.She presented with history of epigastric mass for three months and recent onset of pain abdomen,vomiting and early satiety.Skiagram of abdomen was showing distended stomach and endoscopy revealed trichobezoar.At laparotomy,stomach was distended with trichobezoar and there were multiple small intestinal intussusceptions.Gastrotomy and manual reduction of intussusceptions with the removal of trichobezoar with its tail was done.Patient recovered completely after the procedure.Bidarahalli Krishna Prasanna Kuppusamy Sasikumar Uppinakudru Gurunandan Gubbi Shamanna Sreenath Vikram Kate 2013World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery2013,5,10:2
