| 1 | A review on medicinal importance,pharmacological activity and bioanalytical aspects of beta-carboline alkaloid 'Harmine'显示文摘Harmine,a beta-carboline alkaloid,is widely distributed in the plants,marine creatures,insects, mammalians as well as in human tissues and body fluids.Harmine was originally isolated from seeds of Peganum harmal in 1847 having a core indole structure and a pyridine ring.Harmine has various types of pharmacological activities such as antimicrobial,antifungal,antitumor,cytotoxic, antiplasmodial,antioxidaant,antimutagenic,antigenotoxic and hallucinogenic properties.It acts on gamma-aminobutyric acid type A and monoamine oxidase A or B receptor,enhances insulin sensitivity and also produces vasorelaxant effect.Harmine prevents bone loss by suppressing osteoclastogenesis.The current review gives an overview on pharmacological activity and analytical techniques of harmine,which may be useful for researcheres to explore the hidden potential of harmine and and will also help in developing new drugs for the treatment of various diseases. | K Patel M Gadewar R Tripathi SK Prasad Dinesh Kumar Patel | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2012,2,8: | 17 |
| 2 | Long Term Salinity Stress Reveals Variety Specific Differences in Root Oxidative Stress Response显示文摘Salinity stress induces oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species(ROS):superoxide radicals,hydrogen peroxide(H2O2) and hydroxyl radicals.Activities of both enzymatic and non-enzymatic components of the antioxidant system and related growth parameters were studied in the roots of the salt tolerant rice variety FL478 and the sensitive variety IR29 in response to long term stress(12 d) induced by 50 mmol/L NaCl.The comparative study showed that FL478 maintained higher relative growth rate and lower Na+/K+ in the roots than IR29 due to a higher membrane stability index that effectively exclude Na+.Lower TBARS(thiobarbituric acid reactive substance) content in FL478 roots indicated that its membrane was relatively unaffected by ROS despite high H2O2 content recorded under the salinity stress.Relatively higher superoxide dismutase activity along with a parallel increase in transcript level of superoxide dismutase(Os07g46990) in FL478 indicated that this protein might make a vital contribution to salt stress tolerance.Although the content of ascorbic acid remained unchanged in FL478,the activity of ascorbic peroxidases(APOXs) was reduced comparably in the both varieties.Transcriptomic data showed that a larger number of peroxidase genes were upregulated in FL478 compared to IR29 and several of which might provide engineering targets to improve rice salt tolerance. | Prasad SENADHEERA Shamala TIRIMANNE Frans J M MAATHUIS | 2012 | Rice science2012,19,1: | 3 |

| 6 | Assessment of the diagnostic performance and interobserver variability of endocytoscopy in Barrett's esophagus:A pilot ex-vivo study显示文摘AIM:To investigate a classification of endocytoscopy(ECS)images in Barrett’s esophagus(BE)and evaluate its diagnostic performance and interobserver variability.METHODS:ECS was applied to surveillance endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR)specimens of BE ex-vivo.The mucosal surface of specimen was stained with 1%methylene blue and surveyed with a catheter-type endocytoscope.We selected still images that were most representative of the endoscopically suspect lesion and matched with the final histopathological diagnosis to accomplish accurate correlation.The diagnostic performance and inter-observer variability of the new classification scheme were assessed in a blinded fashion by physicians with expertise in both BE and ECS and inexperienced physicians with no prior exposure to ECS.RESULTS:Three staff physicians and 22 gastroenterology fellows classified eight randomly assigned unknown still ECS pictures(two images per each classification)into one of four histopathologic categories as follows:(1)BEC1-squamous epithelium;(2)BEC2-BE without dysplasia;(3)BEC3-BE with dysplasia;and(4)BEC4-esophageal adenocarcinoma(EAC)in BE.Accuracy of diagnosis in staff physicians and clinical fellows were,respectively,100%and 99.4%for BEC1,95.8%and83.0%for BEC2,91.7%and 83.0%for BEC3,and95.8%and 98.3%for BEC4.Interobserver agreement of the faculty physicians and fellows in classifying each category were 0.932 and 0.897,respectively.CONCLUSION:This is the first study to investigate classification system of ECS in BE.This ex-vivo pilot study demonstrated acceptable diagnostic accuracy and excellent interobserver agreement. | Yutaka Tomizawa Prasad G Iyer Louis M Wongkeesong Navtej S Buttar Lori S Lutzke Tsung-Teh Wu Kenneth K Wang | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,46: | 2 |
