| 1 | Role of Nrf2 in chronic liver disease显示文摘Nuclear erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2) is a central regulator of antioxidative response elements-mediated gene expression. It has a significant role in adaptive responses to oxidative stress by interacting with the antioxidant response element, which induces the expression of a variety of downstream targets aimed at cytoprotection. Previous studies suggested oxidative stress and associated damage could represent a common link between different forms of diseases. Oxidative stress has been implicated in various liver diseases, including viral hepatitis, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease/steatohepatitis, alcoholic liver disease and drug-induced liver injury. Nrf2 activation is initiated by oxidative or electrophilic stress, and aids in the detoxification and elimination of potentially harmful exogenous chemicals and their metabolites. The expression of Nrf2 has been observed throughout human tissue, with high expression in detoxification organs, especially the liver. Thus, Nrf2 may serve as a major regulator of several cellular defense associated pathways by which hepatic cells combat oxidative stress. We review the relevant literature concerning the crucial role of Nrf2 and its signaling pathways against oxidative stress to protect hepatic cell from oxidative damage during development of common chronic liver diseases. | 2 | Throughput Analysis of the IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function Considering Erroneous Channel and Capture Effects显示文摘This paper presents a performance study of the distributed coordination function (DCF) of 802.11 networks considering erroneous channel and capture effects under non-saturated traffic conditions employing a basic access method.The aggregate throughput of a practical wireless local area network (WLAN) strongly depends on the channel conditions.In a real radio environment,the received signal power at the access point from a station is subjected to deterministic path loss,shadowing,and fast multipath fading.The binary exponential backoff (BEB) mechanism of IEEE 802.11 DCF severely suffers from more channel idle time under high bit error rate (BER).To alleviate the low performance of IEEE 802.11 DCF,a new mechanism is introduced,which greatly outperforms the existing methods under a high BER.A multidimensional Markov chain model is used to characterize the behavior of DCF in order to account both non-ideal channel conditions and capture effects. | Ponnusamy Kumar A.Krishnan | 2011 | International Journal of Automation and computing2011,8,2: | 6 |
| 3 | In vitro biofilm formation by uropathogenic Escherichia coli and their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern显示文摘Objective:To detect in vitro biofilm formation of uropathogenic Escherichia coli(E.coli)(UPEC) strains isolated from urine specimens and also to determine their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern using 13 commonly used antibiotics.Methods:The present study comprised of 166 urine specimens collected from tertiary care hospitals in and around Coimbatore.South India. All the specimens were subjected to gram staining,bacterial culture and the E.coli strains were screened for biofilm formation using Tube Method(TM),Congo Red Agar(CRA) and Tissue Culture Plate method(TCP) respectively.Subsequently,the antimicrobial susceptibility test was performed by Kirby Bauer-disk diffusion method for the biofilm and non-biofilm producing E. coli strains.Results:Of the 100(60.2%) E.coli strains,72 strains displayed a biofilm positive phenotype under the optimized conditions in the Tube Method and the strains were classified as highly positive(17,23.6%),moderate positive(19.26.3%) and weakly positive(36.50.0%). similarly under the optimized conditions on Congo Red agar medium,biofilm positive phenotype strains were classified as highly positive(23,23%).moderate positive(37.37%) and weakly positive(40,40%).While in TCP method,the biofilm positive phenotype strains were also classified as highly positive(6.6%),moderate positive(80.80%) and weakly positive(14,14%),it didn’t not correlate well with the tube method for detecting biofilm formation in E.coli.The rates of antibiotic resistance of biofilm producing E.coli were found to be 100%for chloramphenicol and amoxyclav(amoxicillin and clavulanic acid),86%for gentamicin and cefotaxime.84%for ceftazidime,83%for cotrimoxazole and piperacillin/tazobactam,75%for tetracycline and 70% for amikacin,Conclusions:This study reveals the prevalence and antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of biofilm and non-biofilm producing uropathogenic E.coli strains. | Poovendran Ponnusamy Vidhya Natarajan Murugan Sevanan | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,3: | 5 |
| 4 | The effect of leaves extracts of Clitoria ternatea Linn against the fish pathogens显示文摘Objective:To investigate the antimicrobial activity of Clitoria ternatea(C.ternatea) against the fish pathogens viz.,Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P.aeruginosa),Escherichia coli(E.coli),Klebsiella pneumonia(K.pneumonia),Bacillus subtilis(B.subtilis),Aeromonas formican(A.formicans)s, Aeromonas hydrophila(A.hydrophila) and Streptococcus agalactiae(S.agalactiae )isolated from diseased Tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus).Methods:The extracts of C.ternatea was tested against P.aeruginosa,E.coli,K.pneumonia,B.subtilis,A.formicans,A.hydrophila and S.agalactiae by the agar well diffusion method.Results:Different extracts of C.ternatea showed inhibitory effects against P.aeruginosa,E.coli,K.pneumonia,B.subtilis,A.formicans,A.hydrophila and S. agalactiae.Ethyl acetate extracts of C.ternatea showed maximum of zone of inhibition against A. formicans(18 mm),A.hydrophilia(19 mm),B.subtilis(19 mm) and P.aeruginosa(21 mm) next to that ethanol extract of C.ternatea showed A.formicans(18 mm) and E.coli(14 mm) followed by Acetone extract showed maximum zone of inhibition S.agalactiae(19 mm) and K.pneumonia(17 mm).Conclusions:The antimicrobial activities of all the four plant extracts are comparable and their potential as alternative in the treatment of infectious by these microorganisms was present in the fish.Susceptibility testing is conducted on isolates using drugs selected on the basis of their importance to human medicine and use in fish production. | Selvamaleeswaran Ponnusamy Wesely Ebenezer Gnanaraj Johnson Marimuthu Antonisamy Velusamy Selvakumar Jeyakumar Nelson | 2010 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2010,3,9: | 4 |

Diabetes care is expensive with a sizeable amount of available expenditure used for treating the complications of diabetes. A target driven, long-term, multifactorial intervention in patients with type 2 diabetes has been shown to reduce mortality and morbidity.
