Mutagenic and cytotoxic potential of Endosulfan and Lambda-cyhalothrin—In vitro study describing individual and combined effects of pesticides显示文摘Excessive use of pesticides poses increased risks to non target species including humans. In the developing countries, lack of proper awareness about the toxic potential of pesticides makes the farmer more vulnerable to pesticide linked toxicities, which could lead to diverse pathological conditions. The toxic potential of a pesticide could be determined by their ability to induce genetic mutations and cytotoxicity. Hence, determination of genetic mutation and cytotoxicity of each pesticide is unavoidable to legislate health and safety appraisal about pesticides. The objective of current investigation was to determine the genotoxic and cytotoxic potential of Endosulfan(EN) and Lambda-cyhalothrin(LC); individually and in combination. 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide(MTT) assay was utilized to determine cytotoxicity, while two mutant histidine dependent Salmonella strains(TA98, TA100) were used to determine the mutagenicity of EN and LC.Moreover, mutagenicity assay was conducted with and without S9 to evaluate the effects of metabolic activation on mutagenicity. Even though a dose dependent increase in the number of revertant colonies was detected with EN against both bacterial strains, a highly significant(p < 0.05) increase in the mutagenicity was detected in TA98 with S9. In comparison, data obtained from LC revealed less mutagenic potential than EN. Surprisingly, the non-mutagenic individual-concentrations of EN and LC showed dose dependent mutagenicity when combined. Combination of EN and LC synergistically induced mutagenicity both in TA98 and TA100. MTT assay spotlighted comparable dose dependent cytotoxicity effects of both pesticides. Interestingly, the combination of EN and LC produced increased reversion and cytotoxicity at lower doses as compared to each pesticide, concluding that pesticide exposure even at sub-lethal doses can produce cytotoxicity and genetic mutations, which could lead to carcinogenicity.Umber Saleem Sohail Ejaz Muhammad Ashraf Muhammad Ovais Omer Imran Iltaf Zainab Batool Riffat Fatima Msbah Afzal 2014Journal of Environmental Sciences2014,26,7:3

Mental health research in the Arab region in response to the COVID-19 pandemic:a scoping review显示文摘Background The ongoing pandemic has led to a global surge in coronavius disease 2019(COVID-19)-related mental health research. However, most related publications come from Western countries or China, and their findings cannot alwrays be extrapolated to Arabl countries.Aims This study provides a quantitative and qualitative analysis of mental health research pertaining to Arab countries'response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods A scoping review of the World Health Organzation(WHO)C0VID-19 database for publications on mental health was conducted by authors afllated with.Arab istutions, including artides from inception to 24 October 2020.The indluded publications were evaluated for their national distribution, international cllaboration, publication type, and main research themes.Mehological quality analysis of the incuded research studies was performed using the original and mdified versions of the Newcastle Ottawa Scale. Results In total,102 articles were included in this study, averaging 4.6 articles per Arab country. Most of the articles emerged from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,Jordan, and Egypt.A majority of publications demonstrated intermational cllaboration. Most of the publications were original research studies and cross sectional in design. The predominant research theme was examining the pandemic s mental health effects on the general population and healthcare workers.0nly 28.0% of the studies were of high methodologial quality, where as 41.5% were moderate and 30.5% were low in quality. Conclusions Mental health research in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Arab region has quantitative and qualitative shoftfalls.Arab institutions need torespond to the pandemic prompty in order to address the delineated research gap and to generate higher-quality research output.Mohamed Hussein Mahmoud Osman Hassan Ibrahim Hamdy Ezzat Abdelhafez Sami Ouanes Eiman Al-Janahi Yuri Zoghbi Ovais Wadoo 2022General Psychiatry2022,35,2:0
Students' sustainability consciousness with the three dimensions of sustainability:Does the locus of control play a role?显示文摘The persistent environmental problems and the growing difficulty to achieve sustainable development require a re-evaluation of person’ sustainable knowledge, attitude, and behaviour. To go to where we want to go, we must first assess where we are now. The study investigated the level of sustainability consciousness of students in India, and sustainability consciousness was expressed in sustainability knowledge, attitude, and behaviour. Sustainability consciousness was further examined using the three dimensions, such as environment, society, and economy. By drawing the perception map of students and studying the role of the locus of control, the reasons why sustainability knowledge does not appear in sustainability behaviour were analyzed. Quantitative analysis was conducted for a sample of 205 students from higher educational institutions across central India(Madhya Pradesh) from January to March in 2022. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 26 and Smart Partial Least Square(PLS) 3.0. The research revealed that sustainability attitude impacts sustainability behaviour more than sustainability knowledge. The results showed that respondents’ sustainability knowledge is higher than their sustainability attitude and behaviour. Moreover, it was discovered that economic concerns can lead to sustainability behaviour. In order to study respondents’ behaviour regarding sustainability consciousness, the study divided respondents into two groups according to the locus of control: the internal and external locus of control. It was found that most respondents thought whatever happened around them was beyond their control. Further, the locus of control influenced sustainability behaviour in groups with the internal locus of control. The study helps to explain why sustainability knowledge and attitude cannot translate into sustainability behaviour and provides a basis for achieving sustainable development. The conclusions of this study are crucial for governments, educational institutions, and organizations that empower youth to change their behaviour.Durdana OVAIS 2023Regional Sustainability2023,4,1:0
Mental health stigma:the role of dualism, uncertainty, causation and treatability显示文摘INTRODUCTION Public stigma on mental health has been defined as‘the set of negative attitudes and beliefs that motivate individuals to fear, reject, avoid and discriminate against people with mental illness’.1 Stigma causes immense suffering to people with mental disorders across the globe.According to a recent Human Rights Watch report, people with mental health conditions are still shackled in 60 countries.2 Nearly nine out of 10 mental health service users in England have experi-enced discrimination.3 Stigma can be perpet-uated by people in all walks of life, including the family and friends of those with mental disorders, and healthcare professionals, including those working in mental health. The adverse consequences of stigma include shame,self-blame,isolation and discrimi-nation.Javed Latoo Minal Mistry Majid Alabdulla Ovais Wadoo Farida Jan Tariq Munshi Yousaf Iqbal Peter Haddad 2021General Psychiatry2021,34,4:0
噬菌体衣壳纳米颗粒作为病毒感染的多价抑制剂显示文摘In the present time, coronavirus disease COVID-19 has become prevalent across the globe and declared as a pandemic by the world health organization(WHO) [1]. As of now, many vaccines and medicines are in the approval process or at different stages of preclinical investigations to coup with the COVID-19 [2]. Coronavirus has a spike protein, which tends to bind with receptors present in the lung tissues, and that helps in its entry to the cells and replication inside [3]. Therefore, we are in need to design the multivalent nanomaterials, which can act as receptors to bind with spike protein of virus and stop its replication(Fig. 1).Manzar Abbas Muhammad Ovais 陈春英 2020Science Bulletin2020,65,24:0
