| 1 | Competitive effects of humic acid and wastewater on adsorption of Methylene Blue dye by activated carbon and non-imprinted polymers显示文摘Natural organic matter(NOM), present in natural waters and wastewater, decreases adsorption of micropollutants, increasing treatment costs. This research investigated mechanisms of competition for non-imprinted polymers(NIPs) and activated carbon with humic acid and wastewater. Three different types of activated carbons(Norit PAC 200,Darco KB-M, and Darco S-51) were used for comparison with the NIP. The lower surface area and micropore to mesopore ratio of the NIP led to decreased adsorption capacity in comparison to the activated carbons. In addition, experiments were conducted for single-solute adsorption of Methylene Blue(MB) dye, simultaneous adsorption with humic acid and wastewater, and pre-loading with humic acid and wastewater followed by adsorption of MB dye using NIP and Norit PAC 200. Both the NIP and PAC 200 showed significant decreases of 27% for NIP(p = 0.087) and 29% for PAC 200(p = 0.096) during simultaneous exposure to humic acid and MB dye. There was no corresponding decrease for NIP or PAC 200 pre-loaded with humic acid and then exposed to MB. In fact, for PAC 200, the adsorption capacity of the activated carbon increased when it was pre-loaded with humic acid by 39%(p = 0.0005). For wastewater, the NIP showed no significant increase or decrease in adsorption capacity during either simultaneous exposure or pre-loading. The adsorption capacity of PAC 200 increased by 40%(p = 0.001) for simultaneous exposure to wastewater and MB. | 2 | Treatment of pregnant women with a diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease显示文摘The frequency of diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) has increased in younger populations.For this reason,pregnancy in patients with IBD is a topic of interest,warranting additional focus on disease management during this period.The main objective of this article is to summarize the latest findings and guidelines on the management of potential problems from pregnancy to the breastfeeding stage.Fertility is decreased in patients with active IBD.Disease remission prior to conception will likely decrease the rate of pregnancy-related complications.Most of the drugs used for IBD treatment are safe during both pregnancy and breastfeeding.Two exceptions are methotrexate and thalidomide,which are contraindicated in pregnancy.Antitumor necrosis factor agents are not advised during the third trimester as they exhibit increased transplacental transmission and potentially cause immunosuppression in the fetus.Radiological and endoscopic examinations and surgical interventions should be performed only when absolutely necessary.Surgery increases the fetal mortality rate.The delivery method should be determined with consideration of the disease site and presence of progression or flare up.Treatment planning should be a collaborative effort among the gastroenterologist,obstetrician,colorectal surgeon and patient. | Sule Poturoglu Asli Ciftcibasi Ormeci Ali Erkan Duman | 2016 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pharmacology and Therapeutics2016,7,4: | 2 |
| 3 | Radiological evaluation of patellofemoral instability and possible causes of assessment errors显示文摘Patellofemoral instability(PI)is the disruption of the patella’s relationship with the trochlear groove as a result of abnormal movement of the patella.To identify the presence of PI,conventional radiographs(anteroposterior,lateral,and axial or skyline views),magnetic resonance imaging,and computed tomography are used.In this study,we examined four main instability factors:Trochlear dysplasia,patella alta,tibial tuberosity–trochlear groove distance,and patellar tilt.We also briefly review some of the other assessment methods used in the quantitative and qualitative assessment of the patellofemoral joint,such as patellar size and shape,lateral trochlear inclination,trochlear depth,trochlear angle,and sulcus angle,in cases of PI.In addition,we reviewed the evaluation of coronal alignment,femoral anteversion,and tibial torsion.Possible causes of error that can be made when evaluating these factors are examined.PI is a multi-factorial problem.Many problems affecting bone structure and muscles morphologically and functionally can cause this condition.It is necessary to understand normal anatomy and biomechanics to make more accurate radiological measurements and to identify causes.Knowing the possible causes of measurement errors that may occur during radiological measurements and avoiding these pitfalls can provide a more reliable road map for treatment.This determines whether the disease will be treated medically and with rehabilitation or surgery without causing further complications. | Tugrul Ormeci Ismail Turkten Bayram Ufuk Sakul | 2022 | World Journal of Methodology2022,12,2: | 2 |
