One-year clinical study of NeuroR egen scaffold implantation following scar resection in complete chronic spinal cord injury patients显示文摘The objective of this clinical study was to assess the safety and feasibility of the collagen scaffold, Neuro Regen scaffold, one year after scar tissue resection and implantation. Scar tissue is a physical and chemical barrier that prevents neural regeneration. However, identification of scar tissue is still a major challenge. In this study, the nerve electrophysiology method was used to distinguish scar tissue from normal neural tissue, and then different lengths of scars ranging from 0.5–4.5 cm were surgically resected in five complete chronic spinal cord injury(SCI) patients. The NeuroR egen scaffold along with autologous bone marrow mononuclear cells(BMMCs), which have been proven to promote neural regeneration and SCI recovery in animal models, were transplanted into the gap in the spinal cord following scar tissue resection. No obvious adverse effects related to scar resection or Neuro Regen scaffold transplantation were observed immediately after surgery or at the 12-month follow-up. In addition, patients showed partially autonomic nervous function improvement, and the recovery of somatosensory evoked potentials(SSEP) from the lower limbs was also detected. The results indicate that scar resection and Neuro Regen scaffold transplantation could be a promising clinical approach to treating SCI. | Zhifeng Xiao Fengwu Tang Jiaguang Tang Huilin Yang Yannan Zhao Bing Chen Sufang Han Nuo Wang Xing Li Shixiang Cheng Guang Han Changyu Zhao Xiaoxiong Yang Yumei Chen Qin Shi Shuxun Hou Sai Zhang Jianwu Dai | 2016 | Science China(Life Sciences)2016,59,7: | 18
Phacoemulsification with or without goniosynechialysis for angle-closure glaucoma: a global Meta-analysis based on randomized controlled trials显示文摘AIM: To compare the benefits and potential harms of routine phacoemulsification(phaco) alone and combined surgery with goniosynechialysis(GSL) for angle-closure glaucoma(ACG) and coexisting lens opacity, as shown in different randomized controlled trials(RCTs).METHODS: A systematic review was conducted searching several databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, ClinicalTrials.gov from the inception to September 2018 for RCTs with data published on the effects and safety of phaco and intraocular lens implantation combined with GSL or routine cataract surgery alone. Several studies were recruited which reported data at baselines and postoperative follow-up, including the mean values of postoperative intraocular pressure(IOP) and mean numbers of antiglaucoma medications using postoperatively. The numbers of complications happening were also included. Fixedeffect and random-effect models were applied, and the quality of evidence was evaluated.RESULTS: Analysis of the seven included RCTs, with a total number of 321 participants(358 eyes) diagnosed with ACG and cataract, received a solo procedure(phaco group) or a combined surgery(phaco-GSL group) randomly, and follow-up periods ranging from 2 to 12 mo postoperatively. The involved studies showed that the mean value of IOP between the two groups at 3(four studies, one study follow-up at 2 mo postoperative was included), 6, 12 mo postoperative were not significantly different. Only two studies reported the change in IOP value at 12 mo compared with baseline but showed nosignificant differences between the two interventions. Although three studies did not have the significant difference in the number of medications using to reduce IOP at 3 mo postoperatively, two studies reported that the participants using fewer anti-glaucoma medications at 12 mo postoperative in the phaco group than in the phacoGSL surgery group.CONCLUSION: The analysis provides a low to moderatequality evidence that phaco-GSL surgery lead to an equivalent IOP-lowering effect. The phaco-GSL surgery may not help patients to reduce the consumption of antiglaucoma eyedrops in the long period. The results of this analysis suggested that additional GSL may not be necessary for primary angle closure glaucoma(PACG) patients. Further studies, especially RCTs with more participants and longer follow-up time were needed to provide more sufficient data. | Nuo Wang Song-Bai Jia | 2019 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2019,12,5: | 11
Screening of aptamers and their potential application in targeted diagnosis and therapy of liver cancer显示文摘Aptamers are a class of single oligonucleotide molecules(DNA or RNA)that are screened from random DNA or RNA oligonucleotide chain libraries by the systemic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment technology. The selected aptamers are capable of specifically binding to different targeting molecules, which is achieved by the three-dimensional structure of aptamers.Aptamers are similar in function to monoclonal antibodies, and therefore, they are also referred to as'chemical antibodies'.Due to their high affinity and specificity and low immunogenicity, aptamers are topics of intense interest in today's biological targeting research especially in tumor research. They not only have high potential for clinical advances in tumor targeting detection but also are highly promising as targeted tumor drug carriers for use in tumor therapy.Various experimental studies have shown that aptamer-based diagnostic and therapeutic methods for liver cancer have great potential for application. This paper summarizes the structure, characteristics, and screening methods of aptamers and reviews the recent research progress on nucleic acid aptamers in the targeted diagnosis and treatment of liver cancer. | Guo-Qing Zhang Li-Ping Zhong Nuo Yang Yong-Xiang Zhao | 2019 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,26: | 7
Application of next-generation sequencing to screen for pathogenic mutations in 123 unrelated Chinese patients with Marfan syndrome or a related disease显示文摘Marfan syndrome(MFS) is a systemic connective tissue disease principally affecting the ocular, skeletal and cardiovascular systems. This autosomal dominant disorder carries a prevalence of 1:3,000 to 1:5,000. This study aims to define the mutational spectrum of MFS related genes in Chinese patients and to establish genotype-phenotype correlations in MFS. Panel-based targeted next-generation sequencing was used to analyze the FBN1, TGFBR1 and TGFBR2 genes in 123 unrelated Chinese individuals with MFS or a related disease. Genotype-phenotype correlation analyses were performed in mutation-positive patients. The results showed that 97 cases/families(78.9%;97/123) harbor at least one(likely) pathogenic mutation, most of which were in FBN1;four patients had TGFBR1/2 mutations;and one patient harbored a SMAD3 mutation. Three patients had two FBN1 mutations, and all patients showed classical MFS phenotypes. Patients with a dominant negative-FBN1 mutation had a higher prevalence of ectopia lentis(EL). Patients carrying a haploinsufficiency-FBN1 mutation tended to have aortic dissection without EL. This study extends the spectrum of genetic backgrounds of MFS and enriches our knowledge of genotype-phenotype correlations. | Jiacheng Li Chaoxia Lu Wei Wu Yaping Liu Rongrong Wang Nuo Si Xiaolu Meng Shuyang Zhang Xue Zhang | 2019 | Science China(Life Sciences)2019,62,12: | 4

Ocular Surface Characteristics and Impression Cytology in Patients with Active versus Inactive Thyroid Eye Disease显示文摘Purpose:To compare the clinical findings, tear film function and impression cytology between patients with active and inactive Thyroid Eye Disease (TED). Methods:.A total of 56 patients with TED and 30 controls were recruited in this prospective observational cohort study. TED patients were divided into active TED and inactive TED types according to a seven-point modified formulation of the Clinical Activity Score (CAS). All participants underwent full eye examinations including Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) score, tear film break-up time (TBUT), fluorescein staining and Schirmer I test. Thirty nine patients with thyroid-associated orbitopathy.(TAO) received Nelson's grade with conjunctival impression cytology. Proptosis, palpebral fissure width and lagophthalmos were assessed. Results:.Ocular surface parameters including proptosis, palpebral fissure width and lagophthalmos did not differ between active and inactive TED patients(P>0.05). Both active and inactive TED patients obtained higher fluorescein staining scores, lower TBUT scores and significantly lower Schirmer test scores than those of controls (P<0.001 for all). Additionally, the TBUT score was significantly lower and the OSDI score significantly higher in the active TED group compared with those in the inactive TED group (P<0.001 for both). Impression cytology revealed a higher proportion of grade 2-3 changes in the active TED group compared with the inactive TED group(P<0.001). Conclusion:.Orbital inflammation in TED patients may lead to decreased tear film stability and ocular surface squamous metaplasia. | Nuo Xu Danping Huang Huasheng Yang Zhaoguang Lai Quan Luo | 2012 | Eye Science2012,27,2: | 3
Spatial difference features and organization optimization of cities and towns in Tarim River Basin显示文摘This paper analyzes the urban spatial structure of Tarim River Basin from the perspectives of urbanization, urban density, grading scales and spatial evolution patterns, using geographical theories and methods, such as fractal theory, principle component analysis, urbanization imbalance index, urban scale imbalance indicator, and urban spatial interaction. The results show that the urban spatial structure displays balanced distribution in the overall pattern, while an imbalanced distribution in each region. The development of town pattern tends to be gathering to the central towns in the oasis of Tarim River Basin and a development axis has begun to form along the southern Xinjiang railway. Based on the division of urban hinterland, and the development characteristics of oasis economy, this paper puts forward an urban spatial organization model. This model uses 'breakpoint model' and divides Tarim River Basin into five urban clusters: Korla urban cluster, Kuqa urban cluster, Aksu urban cluster, Kashgar urban cluster and Hotan urban cluster. As a conclusion, this article puts forward an overall framework of urban spatial organization in Tarim River Basin: 'one axis, double core, and five groups'. | ChangLong SUN XiaoLei ZHANG Nuo JIN HongRu DU WenWen MA | 2010 | Journal of Arid Land2010,2,1: | 3

Comparison between Xingnaojing Injection(醒脑静注射液)and Naloxone in Treatment of Acute Alcohol Intoxication:An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials显示文摘Objectives:To investigate the effectiveness and safety of Xingnaojing Injection(XNJ,醒脑静注射液)compared with naloxone for the treatment of acute alcohol intoxication(AAI),and provide the latest evidence through evidence-based approach. Methods:Seven electro-databases including Pub Med,EMBASE,Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials,Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure Databases,Chinese Biomedical Literature Database,Chinese Science and Technology Periodical Database(VIP)and Wanfang Database were searched from the inception to January 2018.Randomized controlled trials(RCTs)comparing XNJ with naloxone for patients with AAI and reporting at least one of the below outcomes were included:patients’conscious recovery time, stay length in emergency department, disappearance time of the ataxia symptom, the severity of the symptoms, the blood alcohol content as wel as the adverse events.Methodological quality of included trials was assessed using the risk of bias tool which recommended by the Cochrane Col aboration.Meta-analysis was conducted by Review Manager 5.3 software. Results:Total y 141 trials with 13,901 patients were included in this review,al of them were assessed as unclear or high risk of bias. Results showed that on the basis of routine therapy, standard dose XNJ(10–20 m L)may have similar results with naloxone on the recovery time of consciousness(MD 12 min,95%CI 7.2–17.4 min)and disappearance time of symptoms(MD 6 min,95%CI–13.8–25.8 min)for patients with AAI.Larger dose of XNJ Injection(21–40 m L)may speed up the time(almost 1 h earlier).Combination of XNJ and naloxone seemed superior to the naloxone alone for al the relevant outcomes. The average difference of time in consciousness recovery was 2 h and the number of AAI patients whose consciousness recovery within 1 h was above 50%the combination group than in the control group(RR 1.42,95%CI 1.29 to 1.56).No severe adverse events or adverse reactions of XNJ were reported in the included trials. Conclusions:Low quality of evidence showed XNJ may have equal effect as naloxone and may achieve better effect as add-on intervention with naloxone for patients with AAI.We failed to evaluate the safety of XNJ Injection due to the insufficient evidence in this review. | CAO Hui-juan CHENG Nuo WANG Rui-ting HUANG Xing-yue WU Jia-rui | 2019 | Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine2019,25,12: | 3
On-demand assembly of polymeric nanoparticles for longer-blood-circulation and disassembly in tumor for boosting sonodynamic therapy显示文摘Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) is one of the promising strategies for tumor therapy, but its application is usually hindered by fast clearance in blood-circulation, abnormal tumor microenvironment, and inefficient generation of reactive oxygen species. To solve these problems, we proposed an on-demand assembly-disassembly strategy, where the assembly is favorable for longer-blood-circulation and then the disassembly in tumor is favorable for boosting SDT. Hematoporphyrin monomethyl ether (HMME) as the model of organic sonosensitizers were conjugated with hyaluronic acid (HA). Then HA-HMME was mixed with catalase (CAT) and assembled into polymeric nanoparticles (CAT@HA-HMME NPs) with size of ~80 nm. CAT@HA-HMME NPs exhibit good biocompatibility and a longer blood half-time (t1/2 = 4.17 h) which is obviously longer than that (~0.82 h) of HMME molecules. After HA receptor-mediated endocytosis of cancer cells, CAT@HA-HMME NPs can be cleaved by endogenous hyaluronidase, resulting in the on-demand disassembly in tumor to release HA-HMME molecules and CAT. The CAT catalyzes the endogenous H_(2)O_(2) into O_(2) to relieve the hypoxic microenvironment, and the released HA-HMME exhibits a higher ROS generation ability, greatly boosting SDT for the inhibition of tumor growth. Therefore, the on-demand assembly-disassembly strategy may provide some insight in the design and development of nanoagents for tumor therapy. | Mei Wen Nuo Yu Shiwen Wu Mengmeng Huang Pu Qiu Qian Ren Meifang Zhu Zhigang Chen | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,12: | 2

The mechanism of dentine hypersensitivity:Stimuli-induced directional cation transport through dentinal tubules显示文摘Dentine hypersensitivity is an annoying worldwide disease, yet its mechanism remains unclear. The long-used hydrodynamic theory,a stimuli-induced fluid-flow process, describes the pain processes. However,no experimental evidence supports the statements. Here,we demonstrate that stimuli-induced directional cation transport, rather than fluid-flow,through dentinal tubules actually leads to dentine hypersensitivity. The in vitro/in vivo electro-chemical and electro-neurophysiological approaches reveal the cation current through the nanoconfined negatively charged dentinal tubules coming from external stimuli(pressure,pH,and temperature)on dentin surface and further triggering the nerve impulses causing the dentine hypersensitivity.Furthermore, the cationic-hydrogels blocked dentinal tubules could significantly reduce the stimuli-triggered nerve action potentials and the anionhydrogels counterpart enhances those, supporting the cation-flow transducing dentine hypersensitivity. Therefore, the inspired ion-blocking desensitizing therapies have achieved remarkable pain relief in clinical applications. The proposed mechanism would enrich the basic knowledge of dentistry and further foster breakthrough initiatives in hypersensitivity mitigation and cure. | Nuo Chen Jingjing Deng Shengjie Jiang Xiang-Yu Kong Teng Zhou Kai Zhao Zuohui Xiao Huimin Zheng Weipeng Chen Congcong Zhu Xinyu Liu Liping Wen Yan Wei Xuliang Deng Lei Jiang | 2023 | Nano Research2023,16,1: | 2
Besshi-type mineral systems in the Palaeoproterozoic Bryah Rift-Basin, Capricorn Orogen, Western Australia: Implications for tectonic setting and geodynamic evolution显示文摘In this contribution we use VMS mineral systems in the Bryah rift-basin to constrain the tectonic setting of the widespread mafic and ultramafic magmatism that characterises the rift-basin in question. Two distinct, but temporally closely associated, lithostratigraphic sequences,Narracoota and Karalundi Formations, are discussed. The Karalundi Formation is the main host of VMS mineral systems in the region. The Karalundi Formation consists of turbiditic and immature clastic sediments, which are locally intercalated with basaltic hyaloclastites, dolerites and banded jaspilites. We propose that the basaltic hyaloclastites, dolerites and elastics and jaspilites rocks, form a distinct unit of the Karalundi Formation, named Noonyereena Member. The VMS mineral systems occur near the north-east trendingJenkin Fault and comprise the giant and world-class DeCrussa and the Red Bore deposits. The nature of these deposits and their intimate association with terrigenous clastic rocks and dominantly marine mafic volcanic and subvolcanic rocks,as well as the common development of peperitic margins, are considered indicative of a Besshi-type environment, similar to that of present-day Gulf of California. Our Re-Os age data from a primary pyrite yielded a mean model age of 2012 ± 48 Ma,which coincides(within error) with recent published Re-Os data(Hawke et al.,2015) and confirms the timing of the proposed geodynamic evolution. We propose a geodynamic model that attempts to explain the presence of the Narracoota and Karalundi Formations as the result of mantle plume activity, which began with early uplift of continental crust with intraplate volcanism, followed by early stages of rifting with the deposition of the Karalundi Formation(and Noonyereena Member),which led to the formation of Besshi-type VMS deposits. With on-going mantle plume activity and early stages of continental separation,an oceanic plateau was formed and is now represented by mafic-ultramafic rocks of the Narracoota Formation. | Franco Pirajno Yanjing Chen Nuo Li Chao Li Limin Zhou | 2016 | Geoscience Frontiers2016,7,3: | 2
Keratin 5-Cre-driven deletion of Ncstn in an acne inversa-like mouse model leads to a markedly increased IL-36a and Sprr2 expression显示文摘Familial acne inversa (AI) is an autoinflammatory disorder that affects hair follicles and is caused by loss-of-function mutations in y-secretase component genes. We and other researchers showed that nicastrin (NCSTN) is the most frequently mutated gene in familial AI.In this study,we generated a keratin 5-Cre-driven epidermis-specific Ncstn conditional knockout mutant in mice.We determined that this mutant recapitulated the major phenotypes of AI,including hyperkeratosis of hair follicles and inflammation. In Ncstnflox/flox;K5-Cre mice, the IL-36a expression level markedly increased starting from postnatal day 0 (P0),and this increase occurred much earlier than those of TNF-α,IL-23A,IL-1 3,and TLR4.RNA-Seq analysis indicated that Sprr2d,a member of the small proline-rich protein 2 family,in the skin tissues of the Ncstnflox/flox,;K5-Cre mice was also upregulated on P0.Quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction showed that other Sprr2 genes had a similar expression pattern. Our findings suggested that IL-36a might be a key inflammatory cytokine in the pathophysiology of AI and implicate malfunction of the skin barrier in the pathogenesis of AI. | Jun Yang Lianqing Wang Yingzhi Huang Keqiang Liu Chaoxia Lu Nuo Si Rongrong Wang Yaping Liu Xue Zhang | 2020 | Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,3: | 2
Significance of mitochondrial activity in neurogenesis and neurodegenerative diseases显示文摘Mitochondria play a multidimensional role in the function and the vitality of the neurological system. From the generation of neural stem cells to the maintenance of neurons and their ultimate demise, mitochondria play a critical role in regulating our neural pathways'homeostasis,a task that is critical to our cognitive health and neurological well-being.Mitochondria provide energy via oxidative phosphorylation for the neurotransmission and generation of an action potential along the neuron's axon. This paper will first review and examine the molecular subtleties of the mitochondria's role in neurogenesis and neuron vitality,as well as outlining the impact of defective mitochondria in neural aging. The authors will then summarize neurodegenerative diseases related to either neurogenesis or homeostatic dysfunction.Because of the significant detriment neurodegenerative diseases have on the quality of life,it is essential to understand their etiology and ongoing molecular mechanics. The mitochondrial role in neurogenesis and neuron vitality is essential.Dissecting and understanding this organelle's role in the genesis and homeostasis of neurons should assist in finding pharmaceutical targets for neurodegenerative diseases. | Serra Ozgen Judith Krigman Ruohan Zhang Nuo Sun | 2022 | Neural Regeneration Research2022,17,4: | 2
Research progress on bulk nanobubbles显示文摘There are still fundamental problems lying in the basic research of bulk nanobubbles. Are the bulk nanobubbles reported in the literature nano scale bubbles or contaminants in fact?At present, there is not yet sufficient experimental evidence to show that the bulk nanoparticles are only gas bubbles but not other nano scale contaminants. If they are indeed nanobubbles, what causes the bulk nanobubbles observed in the literature to be much more stable than being predicted by the Epstein-Plesset theory? This paper firstly discusses the contradiction between the traditional theory prediction and the observed lifetime of the bulk nanobubbles, and then discusses whether the so-called nanobubbles are gas aggregates. We review the existing typical models, and the influence of different conditions on the stability of bulk nanobubbles, for paving the road to a clear understanding of the stability mechanism of bulk nanobubbles. In addition, the representative production methods and characterization methods of bulk nanobubbles are discussed in order to offer some guidance to their wide range of commercial applications. | Le Sun Fenghua Zhang Xiaoming Guo Zhengming Qiao Yi Zhu Nuo Jina Yan Cui Weimin Yang | 2022 | Particuology2022,20,1: | 2
