Correlation of transient elastography with hepatic venous pressure gradient in patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension: A study of 326 patients from India显示文摘AIM To study the diagnostic accuracy of transient elastography(TE) for detecting clinically significant portal hypertension(CSPH) in Indian patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension.METHODS This retrospective study was conducted at the Institute of Liver, Gastroenterology, and Panceatico-Biliary Sciences, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, on consecutive patients with cirrhosis greater than 15 years of age who underwent hepatic venous pressure gradient(HVPG) and TE from July 2011 to May 2016. Correlation between HVPG and TE was analyzed using the Spearman's correlation test. Receiver operating characteristic ( ROC) curves were prepared for determining the utility of TE in predicting various stages of portal hypertension. The best cut-off value of TE forthe diagnosis of CSPH was obtained using the Youden index.RESULTS The study included 326 patients [median age 52(range 16-90) years; 81% males]. The most common etiology of cirrhosis was cryptogenic(45%) followed by alcohol(34%). The median HVPG was 16.0(range 1.5 to 30.5) mm Hg. Eighty-five percent of patients had CSPH. A significant positive correlation was noted between TE and HVPG(rho 0.361, P < 0.001). The area under ROC curve for TE in predicting CSPH was 0.740(95%CI: 0.662-0.818)(P < 0.01). A cut-off value of TE of 21.6 k Pa best predicted CSPH with a positive predictive value(PPV) of 93%.CONCLUSION TE has a fair positive correlation with HVPG; thus, TE can be used as a non-invasive modality to assess the degree of portal hypertension. A cut-off TE value of 21.6 k Pa identifies CSPH with a PPV of 93%. | Ashish Kumar Noor Muhammad Khan Shrihari Anil Anikhindi Praveen Sharma Naresh Bansal Vikas Singla Anil Arora | 2017 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2017,23,4: | 8
Structural, morphological, Raman, optical, magnetic, and antibacterial characteristics of CeO2 nanostructures显示文摘In this study, CeO_2 nanostructures were synthesized by a soft chemical method. A hydrothermal treatment was observed to lead to an interesting morphological transformation of the nanoparticles into homogeneous microspheres composed of nanosheets with an average thickness of 40 nm. Structural analysis revealed the formation of a single-phase cubic fluorite structure of CeO_2 for both samples. A Raman spectroscopic study confirmed the XRD results and furthermore indicated the presence of a large number of oxygen vacancies in the nanosheets. These oxygen vacancies led to room-temperature ferromagnetism(RTFM) of the CeO_2 nanosheets with enhanced magnetic characteristics. Amazingly, the nanosheets exhibited substantially greater antibacterial activity than the nanoparticles. This greater antibacterial activity was attributed to greater exposure of high-surface-energy polar surfaces and to the presence of oxygen vacancies. | Fazal Abbas Javed Iqbal Tariq Jan Noor Badshah Qaisar Mansoor Muhammad Ismail | 2016 | International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2016,23,1: | 6
Energy optimization in the wake of China Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC)显示文摘The energy crisis has become a significant bottleneck in the country’s economic progress. But to end this age old problem,we have to capitalize on the chance,China Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC)investment provides,to its full potential. This study aims to help Pakistani government in selecting the best set of CPEC energy priority projects to be completed in the first wave of development. The second part of the research guides the small/medium scale industry and business owners to select the best available alternative for tackling the energy shortfall while CPEC projects are in the process of materialization.Forecasting electricity shortfall decrease and its impact on various economic/industrial sectors(like services, industrial, textile and agriculture)is also performed to gauge the effect of CPEC on the economy using linear regression. For decision analysis, the MCDM techniques employed are(AHP)along with(TOPSIS).This research generated a new list of recommended CPEC energy priority projects which are more evenly distributed across the country, catering more,to interest of the country as a whole. We also concluded solar panels to be the best alternative for small scale businesses,as short term solution while CPEC projects are under construction. | Yousaf Ali Zaeem Rasheed Noor Muhammad Salman Yousaf | 2018 | Journal of Control and Decision2018,5,2: | 5
Cancer models in preclinical research:A chronicle review of advancement in effective cancer research显示文摘Cancer is a major stress for public well-being and is the most dreadful disease. The models used in the discovery of cancer treatment are continuously changing and extending toward advanced preclinical studies.Cancer models are either naturally existing or artificially prepared experimental systems that show similar features with human tumors though the heterogeneous nature of the tumor is very familiar. The choice of the most fitting model to best reflect the given tumor system is one of the real difficulties for cancer examination. Therefore, vast studies have been conducted on the cancer models for developing a better understanding of cancer invasion, progression, and early detection. These models give an insight into cancer etiology, molecular basis, host tumor interaction, the role of microenvironment, and tumor heterogeneity in tumor metastasis. These models are also used to predict novel can-cer markers, targeted therapies, and are extremely helpful in drug development. In this review, the potential of cancer models to be used as a platform for drug screening and therapeutic discoveries are highlighted.Although none of the cancer models is regarded as ideal because each is associated with essential caveats that restraint its application yet by bridging the gap between preliminary cancer research and transla-tional medicine. However, they promise a brighter future for cancer treatment. | Humna Sajjad Saiqa Imtiaz Tayyaba Noor Yusra Hasan Siddiqui Anila Sajjad Muhammad Zia | 2021 | Animal Models and Experimental Medicine2021,4,2: | 5
Nitrogen(N) metabolism related enzyme activities, cell uitrastructure and nutrient contents as affected by N level and barley genotype显示文摘Development of the new crop cultivars with high yield under low nitrogen(N) input is a fundamental approach to enhance agricultural sustainability, which is dependent on the exploitation of the elite germplasm. In the present study, four barley genotypes(two Tibetan wild and two cultivated),differing in N use efficiency(NUE),were characterized for their physiological and biochemical responses to different N levels.Higher N levels significantly increased the contents of other essential nutrients(P,K,Ca,Fe,Cu and Mn),and the increase was more obvious for the N-efficient genotypes(ZD9 and XZ149).The observation of ultrastructure showed that chloroplast structure was severely damaged under low nitrogen, and the two high N efficient genotypes were relatively less affected. The activities of the five N metabolism related enzymes,i.e.,nitrate reductase(NR),glutamine synthetase(GS),nitrite reductase(NiR),glutamate synthase(GOGAT) and glutamate dehydrogenase(GDH) all showed the substantial increase with the increased N level in the culture medium. However the increased extent differed among the four genotypes, with the two N efficient genotypes showing more increase in comparison with the other two genotypes with relative N inefficiency(HXRL and XZ56).The current findings showed that a huge difference exists in low N tolerance among barley genotypes, and improvement of some physiological traits(such as enzymes) could be helpful for increasing N utilization efficiency. | Jawad Munawar Shah Syed Asad Hussain Bukhari ZENG Jian-bin QUAN Xiao-yan Essa Ali Noor Muhammad ZHANG Guo-ping | 2017 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2017,16,1: | 4
Mechanisms and molecular approaches for heat tolerance in rice (Oryza sativa L.) under climate change scenario显示文摘Rice, a staple cereal crop in many parts of the world, has been confronted with multiple environmental stresses including high temperature, negatively impacts the booting as well as anthesis growth stages. The situation is further complicated by the changing climatic conditions, resulting in gradual escalation of temperature as well as changing the rainfall pattern and frequency, thus raising a concern of food security worldwide. The situation can be combat by developing rice varieties with excellent genetics with improved morpho-physiological, biochemical, and molecular mechanisms, together can minimize the adverse effects of heat stress. Here, several strategies(encompassing genetic and genomic, and mechanisms involved) for mitigating the impact of high temperature on rice have been discussed. Finally, the utilization of genomic knowledge in augmenting the conventional breeding approaches have been comprehensively elaborated to develop heat tolerant germplasm. | Syed Adeel Zafar Amjad Hameed Muhammad Amjad Nawaz MA Wei Mehmood All Noor Muzammil Hussain Mehboob-ur-Rahman | 2018 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2018,17,4: | 4
Determination of calorie and protein intake among acute and sub-acute traumatic brain injury patients显示文摘Purpose:Malnutrition is a common problem among hospitalized patients, especially among traumatic brain injury(TBI)patients. It is developed from hypermetabolism and the condition may worsen under the circumstance of underfeeding or incompatible dietary management. However, the data of nutrient intake especially calorie and protein among TBI patients were scarce.Hence, this study aimed to determine the calorie and protein intake among acute and sub-acute TBI patients receiving medical nutrition therapy in hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah,Terengganu. Methods:This observational study involved 50 patients recruited from the neurosurgical ward.Method of 24 h dietary recall was utilized and combined with self-administered food diaries for 2-8 days.Food consumptions including calorie intake and protein intake were analyzed using Nutritionist PRO™(Woodinville,USA)and manual calculation based on the Malaysian food composition database(2015).Results:Patients consisted of 56%males and 44%females with the median age of 28.0(IQR=22.8-36.5)years,of which 92%were diagnosed as mild TBI and the remaining(8%)as moderate TBI.The Glasgow coma scale(GCS)was adopted to classify TBI severity with the score 13-15 being mild and 9-12 being moderate. The median length of hospital stay was 2(IQR=2.0e3.3)days.Calorie and protein intake improved significantly from day 1 to discharge day. However, the intake during discharge day was still considered as suboptimal,i.e.75%of calorie requirement, whilst the median protein intake was only 61.3%relative to protein requirement. Moreover, the average percentages of calorie and protein intakes throughout hospitalization were remarkably lower,i.e.52.2%and 41.0%,respectively.Conclusion:Although the calorie and protein intakes had increased from baseline, hospitalized TBI patients were still at a risk to develop malnutrition as the average intakes were considerably low as compared to their requirements.Optimum nutrient intakes especially calorie and protein are crucial to ensure optimum recovery process as well as to minimize risks of infection and complications. | Mohd Ibrahim Abdullah Aryati Ahmad Sharifah Wajihah Wafa Syed Saadun Tarek Wafa Ahmad Zubaidi Abdul Latif Noor Aini Mohd Yusoff Muhammad Khalis Jasmiad Nujaimin Udin Kartini Abdul Karim | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Traumatology2020,23,5: | 3
A review: The beneficial effects and possible mechanisms of aluminum on plant growth in acidic soil显示文摘Aluminum(Al) is the third most abundant element in the earth’s crust and a major factor inhibiting plant growth and reducing crop yield in acidic soil.Although there is substantial research on the phytotoxic effects and the underlying mechanisms of Al by applying Al alone hydroponically, soil is a complex medium containing numerous mineral elements that can interact with Al and other elements and their bioavailability in plants. In this review,we describe the roles of Al in promoting plant growth, enhancing phosphorus availability and efficient use in plants, and alleviating H+,iron, and manganese toxicity in acidic conditions.Furthermore,we discuss the possible mechanisms of enhanced abiotic stress tolerance induced by Al.We also elucidate the role of Al in attracting plant growth promoting rhizo-bacteria(PGPR) and their interactions with plants by increasing organic exudates. | Noor Muhammad Gerald Zvobgo ZHANG Guo-ping | 2019 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2019,18,7: | 3
Alleviation of arsenic toxicity by phosphate is associated with its regulation of detoxification, defense, and transport gene expression in barley显示文摘Arsenic(As) contamination in soils has posed a severe threat to safe crop production. The previous studies showed the antagonism between phosphorus(P) and As in plant growth and As uptake, while the mechanisms of alleviating As toxicity by P is not completely clear. Due to the limiting P condition, it is imperative to understand how low P addition can be used to suppress arsenate As(V) uptake and the subsequent mechanisms involved. Thus in this study we investigated the effect of P addition on As uptake, anti-oxidative enzyme activity, and anti-oxidant content, and the relative expression of transport, defense, and detoxification genes using two barley genotypes differing in As toxicity tolerance. P addition significantly reduced As concentration in plant tissues, and caused the great changes in activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase, glutathione content, and the relative expression of examined genes when the plants of the two barley genotypes were exposed to 100 μmol L^(–1) As, with ZDB160(As-tolerant) being much more affected than ZDB475(As-sensitive). The current results show that P addition can alleviate As toxicity by regulating the expression of As transport, defense, and detoxification genes to a greater extent in As tolerance of barley, suggesting the possibility of controlling As uptake and toxicity by applying low amount of P fertilizers in the As-contaminated soils. | Gerald Zvobgo Jonas Lwalaba Wa Lwalaba Tichaona Sagonda James Mutemachani Mapodzeke Noor Muhammad Imran Haider Shamsi ZHANG Guo-ping | 2019 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2019,18,2: | 2
Boundary Layer Flow over a Curved Surface Imbedded in Porous Medium显示文摘This research is made to visualize the boundary layer flow by a curved stretching sheet embedded in porous medium. The geometry is bended(curved), therefore the curvilinear coordinates are used to model the present problem.Fluid is electrically conducting with the presence of uniform magnetic field. The governing non-linear partial differential equation reduces to non-linear ordinary differential equations by using the dimensionless suitable transformations. The numerical solutions are obtained by using the method bvp4c from MATLAB. The effects of curvature parameter, nondimensional magnetic parameter, and porosity parameter on the velocity field and skin friction coefficient are examined. The skin friction profile enhances with enhancing the values of porosity and magnetic parameter. Comparison of the present results with the existing results in the literature for the flat surface is also given. | Shafiq Ahmad S.Nadeem Noor Muhammad | 2019 | Communications in Theoretical Physics2019,71,3: | 2
Structural, electronic, and optical properties of ZnO_(1-x)Se_x alloys using first-principles calculations显示文摘The structural, electronic, and optical properties of binary ZnO, ZnSe compounds, and their ternary ZnO 1-x Se x alloys are computed using the accurate full potential linearized augmented plane wave plus local orbital (FP-LAPW + lo) method in the rocksalt (B1) and zincblende (B3) crystallographic phases. The electronic band structures, fundamental energy band gaps, and densities of states for ZnO 1-x Se x are evaluated in the range 0 ≤ x ≤ 1 using Wu-Cohen (WC) generalized gradient approximation (GGA) for the exchange-correlation potential. Our calculated results of lattice parameters and bulk modulus reveal a nonlinear variation for pseudo-binary and their ternary alloys in both phases and show a considerable deviation from Vegard's law. It is observed that the predicted lattice parameter and bulk modulus are in good agreement with the available experimental and theoretical data. We establish that the composition dependence of band gap is semi-metallic in B1 phase, while a direct band gap is observed in B3 phase. The calculated density of states is described by taking into account the contribution of Zn 3d, O2p, and Se 4s, and the optical properties are studied in terms of dielectric functions, refractive index, reflectivity, and energy loss function for the B3 phase and are compared with the available experimental data. | Muhammad Rashid Fayyaz Hussain Muhammad Imran S A Ahmad N A Noor M U Sohaib S M Alay-e-Abbas | 2013 | Chinese Physics B2013,22,8: | 2

Fabrication of NiO coated SiO_2 and SiO_2 coated NiO for the removal of Pb^(2+) ions显示文摘We have prepared silica,SiO2coated NiO and NiO coated SiO2by sol-gel method. The physicochemical properties of the desired materials were investigated by surface charge properties, scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy dispersive X-ray(EDX) spectroscopy, surface area measurements and X-ray diffraction(XRD) analyses. The point of zero charge(PZC) of the solid was determined by the salt addition method. In coated materials, two PZC values were noted representing the surface charge of their counterparts. The SEM image of SiO2coated NiO displays a uniform coating of silica on the surface of NiO whereas in case of NiO coated SiO2,a honeycomb like appearance was observed with highly porous structures. In the diffractograms of NiO,the characteristic peaks were suppressed in NiO coated silica however,no diffraction peak could be seen in SiO2coated NiO.Batch adsorption technique was applied for the removal of Pb2+ions from aqueous solution. The sorption trend for Pb2+ions was observed in the order of NiO coated SiO2> SiO2coated NiO > NiO > SiO2.This trend confirms that the coated materials have more sorption capacities than their parent counterparts. | Saba Noor Muhammad Waseem Umer Rashid Muhammad Anis-ur-Rehman Wajid Rehman Khalid Mahmood | 2014 | Chinese Chemical Letters2014,25,5: | 1

Tectonic Imprints of the Hazara Kashmir Syntaxis on the Mesozoic Rocks Exposed in Munda, Mohmand Agency, Northwest Pakistan显示文摘Two well-developed mesoscopic folds, D_2 and D_3, which postdate the middle amphibolite metamorphism, were recognized in the western hinterland zone of Pakistan. NW–SE trending D_2 folds developed during NE–SW horizontal bulk shortening followed by NE–SW trending D_3 folds, which developed during SE–NW shortening. Micro- to mesoscopically the NW–SE trending S2 crenulation cleavage, boudins and mineral stretching lineations are overprinted by D_3. The newly established NW–SE trending micro- to mesoscopic structures in Munda termed D_2, which postdated F_1/F_2, is synchronously developed with F3 structures in the western hinterland zone of Pakistan. We interpret that D_2 and D_3 folds are counterclockwise rotated in the tectonic event that has evolved the Hazara Kashmir Syntaxis after the main phase Indian plate and Kohistan Island Arc collision. Chlorite replacement by biotite in the main matrix crenulation cleavages indicates prograde metamorphism related with D_2. The inclusion of muscovite and biotite in garnet porphyroblasts and the presence of staurolite in these rocks indicate that the Barrovian metamorphic conditions predate D_2 and D_3. We interpret that garnet, staurolite and calcite porphyroblasts grew before D_2 because the well developed S2 crenulation cleavage wraps around these porphyroblasts. | Asghar ALI Umer HABIB Atta Ur REHMAN Noor ZADA Zain Ul ABIDIN Muhammad ISMAIL | 2016 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2016,90,2: | 1
Effects of bismuth on structural and dielectric properties of cobalt-cadmium spinel ferrites fabricated via micro-emulsion route显示文摘Spinel ferrites have a significant role in high-tech applications. In the present work nano-crystalline ferrites having general formula Co0.5Cd0.5BixFe2-xO4 with(x=0.0,0.05,0.1,0.15,0.2,and 0.25)are synthesized via micro-emulsion route.Powder x-ray diffraction(XRD)studies discover the FCC spinel structure.Crystalline size is calculated in a range of 11 nm-15 nm.Lattice parameter calculations are reduced due to its substitution which leads to the exchange of large ionic radius of Fe^3+for small ionic radius of Bi^3+.The x-ray density is analyzed to increase with doping.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)is performed to analyze absorption band spectra. The two absorption bands are observed in a range of 400 cm^-1-600 cm^-1,and they are the characteristic feature of spinel structure.Thermo-gravimetric analysis(TGA)reveals the total weight loss of nearly 1.98%.Dielectric analysis is carried out by impedance analyzer in a frequency span from 1 MHz to 3 GHz by using the Maxwell Wagner model.Dielectric studies reveal the decrease of dielectric parameters. The alternating current(AC)conductivity exhibits a plane behavior in a low frequency range and it increases with the applied frequency increasing. This is attributed to the grain effects in a high frequency range or may be due to the reduction of porosity.Real and imaginary part of impedance show the decreasing trend which corresponds to the grain boundary action. The imaginary modulus shows the occurrence of peak that helps to understand the interfacial polarization.Cole-Cole graph shows a single semicircle which confirms that the conduction mechanism is due to the grain boundaries at low frequency.Dielectric studies reveal the applicability of these ferrites in high frequency equipment, microwave applications, high storage media, and semiconductor devices. | Furhaj Ahmed Sheikh Muhammad Khalid Muhammad Shahzad Shifa H M Noor ul Huda Khan Asghar Sameen Aslam Ayesha Perveen Jalil ur Rehman Muhammad Azhar Khan Zaheer Abbas Gilani | 2019 | Chinese Physics B2019,28,8: | 1
