1Terrestrial carbon sinks in China and around the world and their contribution to carbon neutrality显示文摘Enhancing the terrestrial ecosystem carbon sink(referred to as terrestrial C sink) is an important way to slow down the continuous increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide(CO_(2)) concentration and to achieve carbon neutrality target. To better understand the characteristics of terrestrial C sinks and their contribution to carbon neutrality, this review summarizes major progress in terrestrial C budget researches during the past decades, clarifies spatial patterns and drivers of terrestrial C sources and sinks in China and around the world, and examines the role of terrestrial C sinks in achieving carbon neutrality target.According to recent studies, the global terrestrial C sink has been increasing from a source of (-0.2±0.9) Pg C yr^(-1)(1 Pg=1015g)in the 1960s to a sink of (1.9±1.1) Pg C yr^(-1) in the 2010s.By synthesizing the published data,we estimate terrestrial C sink of 0.20–0.25 Pg C yr^(-1) in China during the past decades, and predict it to be 0.15–0.52 Pg C yr^(-1) by 2060.The terrestrial C sinks are mainly located in the mid-and high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, while tropical regions act as a weak C sink or source. The C balance differs much among ecosystem types:forest is the major C sink;shrubland, wetland and farmland soil act as C sinks;and whether the grassland functions as C sink or source remains unclear.Desert might be a C sink, but the magnitude and the associated mechanisms are still controversial.Elevated atmospheric CO_(2) concentration, nitrogen deposition, climate change, and land cover change are the main drivers of terrestrial C sinks, while other factors such as fires and aerosols would also affect ecosystem C balance. The driving factors of terrestrial C sink differ among regions.Elevated CO_(2) concentration and climate change are major drivers of the C sinks in North America and Europe, while afforestation and ecological restoration are additionally important forcing factors of terrestrial C sinks in China. For future studies,we recommend the necessity for intensive and long-term ecosystem C monitoring over broad geographic scale to improve terrestrial biosphere models for accurately evaluating terrestrial C budget and its dynamics under various climate change and policy scenarios.Yuanhe Yang Yue Shi Wenjuan Sun Jinfeng Chang Jianxiao Zhu Leiyi Chen Xin Wang Yanpei Guo Hongtu Zhang Lingfei Yu Shuqing Zhao Kang Xu Jiangling Zhu Haihua Shen Yuanyuan Wang Yunfeng Peng Xia Zhao Xiangping Wang Huifeng Hu Shiping Chen Mei Huang Xuefa Wen Shaopeng Wang Biao Zhu Shuli Niu Zhiyao Tang Lingli Liu Jingyun Fang 2022Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,5:32
2Expression of p53 and C-myc genes and its clinical relevance in the hepatocellular carcinomatous and pericarcinomatous tissues显示文摘AIM: To investigate the possible roles of p53 and C-mycgenes in the primary hepatocellular carcinogenesis and therelationship between the liver hyperplastic nodule(LHN) andhepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS: The expression of p53 and C-myc genes wasdetected immunohist-ochemically in 73 and 60 cases of HCCand pericarcinomatous tissues, respectively .RESULTS: The positive expression of p53 in HCC wassignificantly higher than that in pericarcinomatous tissues(P<0.05). In pericarcinomatous tissues, the p53 expressionwas observed only in LHN, but not in liver cirrhosis (LC) andnormal liver tissues. The positive expression rate of C-mycin HCC or LHN was significantly higher than that in LC ornormal liver tissues (P<0.05 and P<0.01), however, nosignificant difference was found between HCC and LHN(P>0.05). The positive expression rate of p53 and C-myc inHCC was correlated with the histological differentiation, thatin the poorly differentiated was significantly higher than thatin well differentiated samples (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: The overexpression of p53 and C-myc genesmight play a role in the carcinogenesis of HCC; And LHNseems a preneoplastic lesion related to hepatocarcinogenesis; No evidence supports that LC contribute directly to thehepatocarcinogenesis.Zhao-Shan Niu Bo-Kian Li Department of Pathology,Medical College of Qingdao University,Qingdao 266021,Shandong Province,China Mei Wang Department of Foreign languages,Qingdao institute of Architecture and Engineering,Qingdao 266033,Shandong Province,China 2002World Journal of Gastroenterology2002,8,5:30
3Adakite-type sodium-rich rocks in Awulale Mountain of west Tianshan:Significance for the vertical growth of continental crust显示文摘The sodium-rich dacites and albite porphyries of Permian in the Awulale Mountain of west Tianshan have unique chemical and trace element signatures identical to adakite. These intermediate-acidic igneous rocks are characterized by high Na2O, Al2O3 and Sr contents and high Sr/Y and La/Y ratios (>40 and >20, respectively), and low Y and Yb contents, and strong depletion in HREE, and positive Eu anomaly. The (143Nd/144Nd)i is in the range from0.51236 to 0.51248 and the εNd(t) is positive value (+0.79-+3.11); the (87Sr/86Sr)i is in the range from 0.7052 to 0.7054. These Nd and Sr isotopic composition features indicate that the source rocks of these adakite-type rocks are from a weakly depleted mantle, or a depleted mantle, but was contaminated by the crustal materials. These adakite-type rocks were most likely derived from the partial melting of new underplated basaltic rocks under the conditions of amphibo-lite to eclogite transition in the postcollisional environment of North Xinjiang during the PermianXIONG Xiaolin ZHAO Zhenhua BAI Zhenghua MEI Houjun WANG Yixian WANG Qiang XU Jifeng Niu Hecai BAO Zhiwei 2001Chinese Science Bulletin2001,46,10:25
4Altered trends in carbon uptake in China’s terrestrial ecosystems under the enhanced summer monsoon and warming hiatus显示文摘The carbon budgets in terrestrial ecosystems in China are strongly coupled with climate changes.Over the past decade,China has experienced dramatic climate changes characterized by enhanced summer monsoon and decelerated warming. However, the changes in the trends of terrestrial net ecosystem production(NEP)in China under climate changes are not well documented. Here,we used three ecosystem models to simulate the spatiotemporal variations in China's NEP during 1982–2010 and quantify the contribution of the strengthened summer monsoon and warming hiatus to the NEP variations in four distinct climatic regions of the country. Our results revealed a decadal-scale shift in NEP from a downtrend of–5.95 Tg C/yr^2(reduced sink)during 1982–2000 to an uptrend of 14.22 Tg C/yr^2(enhanced sink)during 2000–10.This shift was essentially induced by the strengthened summer monsoon, which stimulated carbon uptake, and the warming hiatus, which lessened the decrease in the NEP trend.Compared to the contribution of 56.3%by the climate effect, atmospheric CO2 concentration and nitrogen deposition had relatively small contributions(8.6 and 11.3%,respectively)to the shift. In conclusion, within the context of the global-warming hiatus, the strengthening of the summer monsoon is a critical climate factor that enhances carbon uptake in China due to the asymmetric response of photosynthesis and respiration. Our study not only revealed the shift in ecosystem carbon sequestration in China in recent decades, but also provides some insight for understanding ecosystem carbon dynamics in other monsoonal areas.Honglin He Shaoqiang Wang Li Zhang Junbang Wang Xiaoli Ren Lei Zhou Shilong Piao Hao Yan Weimin Ju Fengxue Gu Shiyong Yu Yuanhe Yang Miaomiao Wang Zhongen Niu Rcmg Ge Huimin Yan Mei Huang Guoyi Zhou Yongfei Bai Zongqiang Xie Zhiyao Tang Bingfang Wu Leiming Zhang Nianpeng He Qiufeng Wang Guirui Yu 2019National Science Review2019,6,3:24
5Management of hepatocellular carcinoma:Predictive value of immunohistochemical markers for postoperative survival显示文摘Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) accounts for over 90% of all primary liver cancers. With an ever increasing incidence trend year by year,it has become the third most common cause of death from cancer worldwide. Hepatic resection is generally considered to be one of the most effective therapies for HCC patients, however, there is a high risk of recurrence in postoperativeHCC. In clinical practice, there exists an urgent need for valid prognostic markers to identify patients with prognosis, hence the importance of studies on prognostic markers in improving the prediction of HCC prognosis. This review focuses on the most promising immunohistochemical prognostic markers in predicting the postoperative survival of HCC patients.Zhao-Shan Niu Xiao-Jun Niu Mei Wang 2015World Journal of Hepatology2015,7,1:11
6Biomechanical comparison of locking plate and crossing metallic and absorbable screws fixations for intra-articular calcaneal fractures显示文摘The locking plate and percutaneous crossing metallic screws and crossing absorbable screws have been used clinically to treat intra-articular calcaneal fractures, but little is known about the biomechanical differences between them. This study compared the biomechanical stability of calcaneal fractures fixed using a locking plate and crossing screws. Three-dimensional finite-element models of intact and fractured calcanei were developed based on the CT images of a cadaveric sample. Surgeries were simulated on models of Sanders type III calcaneal fractures to produce accurate postoperative models fixed by the three implants. A vertical force was applied to the superior surface of the subtalar joint to simulate the stance phase of a walking gait. This model was validated by an in vitro experiment using the same calcaneal sample. The intact calcaneus showed greater stiffness than the fixation models. Of the three fixations, the locking plate produced the greatest stiffness and the highest von Mises stress peak. The micromotion of the fracture fixated with the locking plate was similar to that of the fracture fixated with the metallic screws but smaller than that fixated with the absorbable screws. Fixation with both plate and crossing screws can be used to treat intra-articular calcaneal fractures. In general, fixation with crossing metallic screws is preferable because it provides sufficient stability with less stress shielding.Ming Ni Duo Wai-Chi Wong Jiong Mei Wenxin Niu Ming Zhang 2016Science China(Life Sciences)2016,59,9:11
7Adakites related to subduc-tion in the northern margin of Junggar arc for the Late Paleozoic:Products of slab melting显示文摘Volcanic rocks with adakitic compositional signature have been recognized in the northern margin of ancient Junggar island arc for the Late Paleozoic. These adakites for the early Devonian from the Tuoranggekudouke Group (D1t) are characteristic of high Sr, Sr/Y and (La/Yb)N but low Y, Yb and HREE. Their compositional characteristics are much similar to those of the typical adakites in the world but distinct from those of the normal arc volcanic rocks from the same Group. We conclude that these adakitic volcanic rocks were produced by slab melting during the early period of Paleoasia-ocean lithosphere subduction. This infers that the Paleoasia Ocean in the north Junggar area began a new subduction process in the early Devonian.Jifeng Xu Houjun Mei Xueyuan Yu Zhenghua Bai Hecai Niu Fanrong Chen Zuoping Zhen Qiang Wang 2001Chinese Science Bulletin2001,46,15:11

9Expression of c-erbB-2 and glutathione S-transferase-pi in hepatocellular carcinoma and its adjacent tissue显示文摘AIM: To investigate the possible role of c-erbB-2 and glutathione S-transferase (GST-Pi) in primary hepatocellular carcinogenesis and the relationship between liver hyperplastic nodule (LHN), liver cirrhosis (LC), and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).METHODS: The expression of c-erbB-2 and GST-Pi was detected immunohistochemically in 41 tissue specimens of HCC and 77 specimens of its adjacent tissue.RESULTS: The positive expression of c-erbB-2 in LHN (28.6%) was significantly higher than that in LC (0%)(P = 0.032<0.05), but no significant difference was seen between HCC and LHN or LC (P>0.05,x2 = 0.002, 3.447).The positive expression of GST-Pi in HCC (89.6%) or LHN (71.1%) was significantly higher than that in LC (22.9%, P<0.001, x2= 49.91, 16.96). There was a significant difference between HCC and LHN (P<0.05,x2= 6.353).CONCLUSION: The c-erbB-2 expression is an early event in the pathogenesis of HCC. GST-Pi may be a marker enzyme for immunohistochemical detection of human HCC and its preneoplastic lesions. LHN seems to be a preneoplastic lesion related to hepatocarcinogenesis.Zhao-Shan Niu Mei Wang 2005World Journal of Gastroenterology2005,11,28:6
10Novel Wx alleles generated by base editing for improvement of rice grain quality显示文摘Amylose content(AC),which is regulated by the Waxy(Wx)gene,is a major indicator of eating and cooking quality(ECQ)in rice(Oryza sativa). Thus far, only a limited number of mutations in the N-terminal domain of Wx were found to have a major impact on the AC of rice grains and no mutations with such effects were reported for other regions of the Wx protein. Here, nucleotide substitutions in the middle region of Wx were generated by adenine and cytosine base editors. The nucleotide substitutions led to changes in 15 amino acid residues of Wx,and a series of novel Wx alleles with ACs of 0.3%-29.43%(wild type with AC of 19.87%)were obtained.Importantly, the waxy~(abe2)allele showed a'soft rice'AC,improved ECQ,favorable appearance, and no undesirable agronomic traits. The transgenes were removed from the waxy~(abe2)progeny,generating a promising breeding material for improving rice grain quality.Xiaorui Huang Fei Su Sheng Huang Fating Mei Xiaomu Niu Changle Ma Hui Zhang Xiaoguo Zhu Jian-Kang Zhu Jinshan Zhang 2021Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2021,63,9:4
11Chinese expert consensus on the management of chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy-associated coagulopathy显示文摘Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell(CAR-T)therapy has greatly improved the disease remission rate and long-term survival rate of patients with relapsed/refractory hematological malignancies.[1-3]Currently,several commercial CAR-T products are available in the market and numerous CAR-T clinical trials have been conducted.Attention should be paid to the safety of CAR-T therapy. The main adverse effects of CAR-T therapy are cytokine release syndrome(CRS)and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome(ICANS).[4]Heng Mei Fangping Chen Yue Han Ming Hou He Huang Xiaojun Huang Yuhua Li Aibin Liang Qifa Liu Ting Niu Jun Peng Wenbin Qian Yongping Song Jianxiang Wang Ying Wang Depei Wu Kailin Xu Linhua Yang Renchi Yang Lei Zhang Liansheng Zhang Xi Zhang Xiaohui Zhang Weili Zhao Weidong Han Yu Hu 2022Chinese Medical Journal2022,,14:4
12Role of phytochemicals in colorectal cancer prevention显示文摘Although the incidence of colorectal cancer(CRC) has been declining in recent decades,it remains a major public health issue as a leading cause of cancer mortality and morbidity worldwide. Prevention is one milestone for this disease. Extensive study has demonstrated that a diet containing fruits, vegetables, and spices has the potential to prevent CRC. The specific constituents in the dietary foods which are responsible for preventing CRC and the possible mechanisms have also been investigated extensively. Various phytochemicals have been identified in fruits, vegetables, and spices which exhibit chemopreventive potential. In this review article, chemopreventive effects of phytochemicals including curcumin, polysaccharides(apple polysaccharides and mushroom glucans),saponins(Paris saponins, ginsenosides and soy saponins),resveratrol, and quercetin on CRC and the mechanisms are discussed. This review proposes the need for more clinical evidence for the effects of phytochemicals against CRC in large trials. The conclusion of the review is that these phytochemicals might be therapeutic candidates in the campaign against CRC.Yu-Hua Li Yin-Bo Niu Yang Sun Feng Zhang Chang-Xu Liu Lei Fan Qi-Bing Mei 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,31:3
13How does conserved dopamine neurotrophic factor protect against and rescue neurodegeneration of PC12 cells?显示文摘Conserved dopamine neurotrophic factor protects and rescues dopaminergic neurodegeneration induced by 6-hydroxydopamine in vivo, but its potential value in treating Parkinson’s disease remains controversial. Here,we used the proteasome inhibitors lactacystin and MG132 to induce neurodegeneration of PC12 cells.Afterwards, conserved dopamine neurotrophic factor was administrated as a therapeutic factor, both pretreatment and posttreatment. Our results showed that(1)conserved dopamine neurotrophic factor enhanced lactacystin/MG132-induced cell viability and morphology, and attenuated alpha-synuclein accumulation in differentiated PC12 cells.(2)Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay showed up-regulated 26S proteasomal activity in MG132-induced PC12 cells after pre-and posttreatment with conserved dopamine neurotrophic factor.Similarly,26S proteasome activity was upregulated in lactacystin-induced PC12 cells pretreated with conserved dopamine neurotrophic factor.(3)With regard proteolytic enzymes(specifically, glutamyl peptide hydrolase, chymotrypsin, and trypsin),glutamyl peptide hydrolase activity was up-regulated in lactacystin/MG132-administered PC12 cells after pre-and posttreatment with conserved dopamine neurotrophic factor. However, upregulation of chymotrypsin activity was only observed in MG132-administered PC12 cells pretreated with conserved dopamine neurotrophic factor. There was no change in trypsin expression. We conclude that conserved dopamine neurotrophic factor develops its neurotrophic effects by modulating proteasomal activities, and thereby protects and rescues PC12 cells against neurodegeneration.Jia-ming Mei Chao-shi Niu 2017Neural Regeneration Research2017,12,7:3
142022 Chinese expert consensus and guidelines on clinical management of toxicity in anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy for B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma显示文摘Adoptive cellular immunotherapy with chimeric antigen receptor(CAR)T cells has emerged as a novel modality for treating relapsed and/or refractory B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma(B-NHL).With increasing approval of CAR T-cell products and advances in CAR T cell therapy,CAR T cells are expected to be used in a growing number of cases. However,CAR T-cell-associated toxicities can be severe or even fatal, thus compromising the survival benefit from this therapy.Standardizing and studying the clinical management of these toxicities are imperative. In contrast to other hematological malignancies, such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia and multiple myeloma,anti-CD19 CAR T-cell-associated toxicities in B-NHL have several distinctive features, most notably local cytokine-release syndrome(CRS).However, previously published guidelines have provided few specific recommendations for the grading and management of toxicities associated with CAR T-cell treatment for B-NHL.Consequently,we developed this consensus for the prevention, recognition, and management of these toxicities,on the basis of published literature regarding the management of anti-CD19 CAR T-cell-associated toxicities and the clinical experience of multiple Chinese institutions. This consensus refines a grading system and classification of CRS in B-NHL and corresponding measures for CRS management, and delineates comprehensive principles and exploratory recommendations for managing anti-CD19 CAR T-cell-associated toxicities in addition to CRS.Ping Li Yang Liu Yun Liang Jian Bo Sujun Gao Yongxian Hu Yu Hu He Huang Xiaojun Huang Hongmei Jing Xiaoyan Ke Jianyong Li Yuhua Li Qifa Liu Peihua Lu Heng Mei Ting Niu Yongping Song Yuqin Song Liping Su Sanfang Tu Jianxiang Wang Depei Wu Zhao Wang Kailin Xu Zhitao Ying Qingming Yang Yajing Zhang Fengxia Shi Bin Zhang Huilai Zhang Xi Zhang Mingfeng Zhao Weili Zhao Xiangyu Zhao Liang Huang Jun Zhu Wenbin Qian Weidong Han Aibin Liang 2023Cancer Biology & Medicine2023,20,2:3
15Fabrication and electrical characteristics of flash-sintered SiO_(2)-doped ZnO-Bi_(2)O_(3)-MnO_(2) varistors显示文摘The dense ZnO-Bi_(2)O_(3)-MnO_(2)(ZBMS)varistors for x=0,1,2,3 wt% were fabricated by flash sintering method under the low temperature of 850℃ within 2 min.The sample temperature was estimated by a black body radiation model in the flash sintering process. The crystalline phase assemblage, density, microstructure, and electrical characteristics of the flash-sintered ZBMS varistors with different SiO_(2)-doped content were investigated.According to the XRD analysis, many secondary phases were detected due to the SiO_(2) doping.Meanwhile, the average grain size decrease with increasing SiO_(2)-doped content. The improved nonlinear characteristics were obtained in SiO_(2)-doped samples, which can be attributed to the ion migration and oxygen absorption induced by the doped SiO_(2).The flash-sintered ZBMS varistor ceramics for x=2 wt% exhibited excellent comprehensive electrical properties, with the nonlinear coefficient of 24.5,the threshold voltage and leakage current of 385 V·mm^(-1 )and 11.8μA,respectively.Pai PENG Yujun DENG Jingpeng NIU Liyi SHI Yunzhu MEI Sanming DU Juan LIU Dong XU 2020Journal of Advanced Ceramics2020,9,6:3
16Heterotopic ossification after arthroscopy for hip impingement syndrome显示文摘Background:Heterotopic ossification(HO)is a known complication of hip arthroscopy. We investigated incidence of HO after hip arthroscopy and determined whether revision for HO improved outcome. Methods:A retrospective study was conducted on 242 patients(140 men and 102 women, mean age:36.2±9.5 years)who underwent hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement(FAI)between January 2016 and January 2018.The average followup period was 22.88±11.74 months(range:11-34 months).Thirteen(5.37%)cases of HO(six men and seven women, five left hips and eight right hips;mean age:37.5±4.7 years)were observed.Among them, four cases with HO with obvious pain symptoms and persistent non-remission underwent revision surgery to remove HO.Monthly follow-up was conducted.Visual analog scale(VAS),modified Harris Hip Score(mHHS),and non-Arthritis Hip Score(NAHS)were evaluated and compared between HO and non-HO patients.Independent sample t test,Mann-Whitney U test and the Chi-square test were used for inter-group comparisons.HO degree was evaluated using Brooker classification.Symptoms and function were evaluated before and after revision. Results:A total of 242 patients were involved in this study.Thirteen cases(5.4%)had imaging evidence of HO.Nine(9/13)were classified as Brooker stageⅠ,three(3/13)Brooker stageⅡ,and one(1/13)Brooker stageⅢ.HO was detected by ultrasonography as early as 3 weeks after operation. After primary surgery, the mHHS of the HO group and non-HO group increased by 13.00(8.50,25.50)and 24.00(14.00,34.50)points(Z=-1.80,P=0.08),NAHS increased by 18.00(9.50,31.50)and 26.00(13.50,36.00)points(Z=-1.34,P=0.18),and VAS decreased by 3.00(2.00,4.00)and 4.00(3.00,4.50)points(Z=-1.55,P=0.12).Average follow-up time after revision was 9.00±2.94 months;mHHS increased by 34.75 points t=-55.23,P<0.01)and NAHS by 28.75 points t=-6.03,P<0.01),and VAS decreased by 4 points t=9.80,P<0.01).HO and non-HO patients were similar for demographic and surgical data, and clinical and functional scores. Conclusion:HO incidence after arthroscopic treatment of FAI is similar to that found in previous studies. Most HO have no effect on clinical symptoms.Patients who undergo revision HO resection show improvement in pain and joint function.Guan-Ying Gao Xin Zhang Ling-Hui Dai Hong-Jie Huang Rui-Qi Wu Xiao-Dong Ju Yu Mei Xing-Yue Niu Jian-Quan Wang Yan Xu 2019Chinese Medical Journal2019,,7:3
17Exome sequencing reveals genetic architecture in patients with isolated or syndromic short stature显示文摘Short stature is among the most common endocrinological disease phenotypes of childhood and may occur as an isolated finding or in conjunction with other clinical manifestations.Although the diagnostic utility of clinical genetic testing in short stature has been implicated, the genetic architecture and the utility of genomic studies such as exome sequencing(ES)in a sizable cohort of patients with short stature have not been investigated systematically. In this study,we recruited 561 individuals with short stature from two centers in China during a 4-year period. We performed ES for all patients and available parents. All patients were retrospectively divided into two groups:an isolated short stature group(group I,n=257)and an apparently syndromic short stature group(group II,n=304).Causal variants were identified in 135 of 561(24.1%)patients.In group I,29 of 257(11.3%)of the patients were solved by variants in 24 genes. In group II,106 of 304(34.9%)patients were solved by variants in 57 genes.Genes involved in fundamental cellularprocess played an important role in the genetic architecture of syndromic short stature.Distinct genetic architectures and pathophysiological processes underlie isolated and syndromic short stature.Xin Fan Sen Zhao Chenxi Yu Di Wu Zihui Yan Lijun Fan Yanning Song Yi Wang Chuan Li Yue Ming Baoheng Gui Yuchen Niu Xiaoxin Li Xinzhuang Yang Shiyu Luo Qiang Zhang Xiuli Zhao Hui Pan Mei Li Weibo Xia Guixing Qiu Pengfei Liu Shuyang Zhang Jianguo Zhang Zhihong Wu James R.Lupski Jennifer E.Posey Shaoke Chen Chunxiu Gong Nan Wu 2021Journal of Genetics and Genomics2021,48,5:2
18The U-box ubiquitin ligase TUD1 promotes brassinosteroid-induced GSK2 degradation in rice显示文摘Brassinosteroids(BRs)are a class of steroid hormones with great potential for use in crop improvement.De-repression is usually one of the key events in hormone signaling. However, how the stability of GSK2,the central negative regulator of BR signaling in rice(Oryza sativa),is regulated by BRs remains elusive. Here,we identify the U-box ubiquitin ligase TUD1 as a GSK2-interacting protein by yeast two-hybrid screening. We show that TUD1 is able to directly interact with GSK2 and ubiquitinate the protein.Phenotypes of the tud1 mutant are highly similar to those of plants with constitutively activated GSK2.Consistent with this finding,GSK2 protein accumulates in the tud1 mutant compared with the wild type.In addition, inhibition of BR synthesis promotes GSK2 accumulation and suppresses TUD1 stability.By contrast,BRs can induce GSK2 degradation but promote TUD1 accumulation.Furthermore, the GSK2 degradation process is largely impaired in tud1 in response to BR.In conclusion, our study demonstrates the role of TUD1 in BR-induced GSK2 degradation, thereby advancing our understanding of a critical step in the BR signaling pathway of rice.Dapu Liu Xiaoxing Zhang Qingliang Li Yunhua Xiao Guoxia Zhang Wenchao Yin Mei Niu Wenjing Meng Nana Dong Jihong Liu Yanzhao Yang Qi Xie Chengcai Chu Hongning Tong 2023Plant Communications2023,4,2:2
19Quercetin prevents bone loss in hindlimb suspension mice via stanniocalcin 1-mediated inhibition of osteoclastogenesis显示文摘Recent studies demonstrate that diet quercetin(Quer)has obvious bone protective effects on ovariectomized rode nts but thus far there is no direct evidenee to support the inhibitory effect of Quer on bone loss caused by long-term unloading. In the present study,we investigated whether Quer could prevent bone loss induced by unloading in mice.Mice were subjected to hindlimb suspension(HLS)and received Quer(25,50,100 mg·kg^-1·day^-1,ig)for 4 weeks. Before euthanasia blood sample was collected;the femurs were harvested and subjected to MicroCT analysis. We showed that Quer administration markedly improved bone microstructure evideneed by dose-dependently reversing the reduction in bone volume per tissue volume, trabecular number, and bone min eral density, and the in crease of trabecular spaci ng in mice with HLS.An alysis of serum markers and bone histometric parameters con firmed that Quer at both middle and high doses sign ificantly decreased bone resorptio n-related markers collagen type I and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase 5b,and in creased bone formati on-related marker procollagen 1 N-termi nal propeptide as compared with HLS group.Treatment with Quer(1,2,5μM)dose-dependently inhibited RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis through promoting the expression of antioxidant hormone stanniocalcin 1(STC1)and decreasing ROS gen erati on;kno ckdow n of STC1 blocked the in hibitory effect of Quer on ROS gen eration.Kno ckdow n of STC1 also sign ificantly promoted osteoclastogenesis in primary osteoclasts. In conclusion,Quer protects bones and prevents unloading-caused bone loss in mice through STC1-mediated inhibition of osteoclastogenesis. The findings suggest that Quer has the potential to prevent and treat off-load bone loss as an alter native supplement.Yin-bo Niu Yuan-yuan Yang Xuan Xiao Yang Sun Yu-mei Zhou Yu-han Zhang Dong Dong Chen-rui Li Xiang-long Wu Yu-hua Li Qi-bing Mei 2020Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2020,41,11:2
20Enlightenment from the COVID-19 Pandemic:The Roles of Environmental Factors in Future Public Health Emergency Response显示文摘The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic is challenging the current public health emergency response systems(PHERSs)of many countries.Although environmental factors, such as those influencing the survival of viruses and their transmission between species including humans, play important roles in PHERSs,little attention has been given to these factors. This study describes and elucidates the roles of environmental factors in future PHERSs.To improve countries’capability to respond to public health emergencies associated with viral infections such as the COVID-19 pandemic,a number of environmental factors should be considered before, during, and after the responses to such emergencies.More specifically,to prevent pandemic outbreaks,we should strengthen environmental and wildlife protection, conduct detailed viral surveillance in animals and hotspots, and improve early-warning systems.During the pandemic,we must study the impacts of environmental factors on viral behaviors, develop control measures to minimize secondary environmental risks, and conduct timely assessments of viral risks and secondary environmental effects with a view to reducing the impacts of the pandemic on human health and on ecosystems. After the pandemic,we should further strengthen surveillance for viruses and the prevention of viral spread, maintain control measures for minimizing secondary environmental risks, develop our capability to scientifically predict pandemics and resurgences, and prepare for the next unexpected resurgence.Meanwhile,we should restore the normal life and production of the public based on the“One Health”concept, that views global human and environmental health as inextricably linked. Our recommendations are essential for improving nations’capability to respond to global public health emergencies.Xiaolei Wang Fengchang Wu Xiaoli Zhao Xiao Zhang Junyu Wang Lin Niu Weigang Liang Kenneth Mei Yee Leung John P.Giesy 2022Engineering2022,8,1:2
