Application of high silica zeolite ZSM-5 in a hybrid treatment process based on sequential adsorption and ozonation for VOCs elimination显示文摘In this study,a hydrophobic synthetic zeolite, namely ZSM-5 is chosen as an adsorbent/catalyst for toluene removal.Experimental results showed that toluene adsorption onto ZSM-5 was favourable, following a Langmuir adsorption isotherm model.ZSM-5 zeolite was regenerated using gaseous ozone at low temperature.Adsorbed toluene was oxidised, releasing mainly CO_2 and H_2O.Traces of oxidation by-products such as acetic acid and acetaldehyde were formed and remained adsorbed after the oxidativate regeneration with ozone. After four successive cycles of adsorption/ozonation,the adsorption efficiency was not affected(92%-99%).These results showed that volatile organic compound(VOC)removal by adsorption onto ZSM-5 zeolite followed by ozone regeneration could be used as a promising hybrid process for the control of VOC emissions in terms of efficiency.Hicham Zaitan Marie Hélène Manero Héctor Valdés 2016Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,3:23
Brain-lung crosstalk: Implications for neurocritical care patients显示文摘Major pulmonary disorders may occur after brain injuries as ventilator-associated pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome or neurogenic pulmonary edema. They are key points for the management of brain-injured patients because respiratory failure and mechanical ventilation seem to be a risk factor for increased mortality, poor neurological outcome and longer intensive care unit or hospital length of stay. Brain and lung strongly interact via complex pathways from the brain to the lung but also from the lung to the brain. Several hypotheses have been proposed with a particular interest for the recently described 'double hit' model. Ventilator setting in brain-injured patients with lung injuries has been poorly studied and intensivists are often fearful to use some parts of protective ventilation in patients with brain injury. This review aims to describe the epidemiology and pathophysiology of lung injuries in brain-injured patients, but also the impact of different modalities of mechanical ventilation on the brain in the context of acute brain injury.Ségolène Mrozek Jean-Michel Constantin Thomas Geeraerts 2015World Journal of Critical Care Medicine2015,4,3:20
Accuracy and responses of genomic selection on key traits in apple breeding显示文摘The application of genomic selection in fruit tree crops is expected to enhance breeding eficiency by increasing prediction accuracy, increasing selection intensity and decreasing generation interval. The objectives of this study were to assess the accuracy of prediction and selection response in commercial apple breeding programmes for key traits. The training population comprised 977 individuals derived from 20 pedigreed fllsib families.Historic phenotypic data were available on 10 traits related to productivity and fruit external appearance and genotypic data for 7829 SNPs obtained with an llumina 20K SNP array. From these data,a genome-wide prediction model was built and subsequently used to calculate genomic breeding values of five application fllsib families. The application families had genotypes at 364 SNPs from a dedicated 512 SNP array, and these genotypic data were extended to the high-density level by imputation. These five families were phenotyped for 1 year and their phenotypes were compared to the predicted breeding values.Accuracy of genomic prediction across the 10 traits reached a maximum value of 0.5 and had a median value of 0.19.The accuracies were strongly affected by the phenotypic distribution and heritability of traits. In the largest family, significant selection response was observed for traits with high heritability and symmetric phenotypic distribution.Traits that showed non-significant response often had reduced and skewed phenotypic variation or low heritability.Among the five application families the accuracies were uncorrelated to the degree of relatedness to the training population. The results underline the potential of genomic prediction to accelerate breeding progress in outbred fruit tree crops that still need to overcome long generation intervals and extensive phenotyping costs.Hélène Muranty Michela Troggio Inès Ben Sadok Mehdi Al Rifaï Annemarie Auwerkerken Elisa Banchi Riccardo Velasco Piergiorgio Stevanato W.Eric van de Weg Mario Di Guardo Satish Kumar François Laurens Marco C.A.M.Bink 2015Horticulture Research2015,2,1:14
Intraocular complications of IFN-α and ribavirin therapy in patients with chronic viral hepatitis C显示文摘We report a panel of severe inflammatory and vascular intraocular disorders occurring during interferon-alpha (IFN-α) treatment in eight hepatitis C virus (HCV)-infected patients. These events include three cases of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada like (VKH) disease (an association of panuveitis, retinal detachment, ear and meningeal detachment and skin and hair changes), two cases of central retinal vein occlusion, one case of central retinal artery occlusion, one case of severe hypertensive retinopathy and one case of bilateral ischemic optic neuropathy with severe visual impairment. Rare as they are, such severe ophthalmological complications require a close follow-up of HCV-infected patients under IFN-α treatment with ophthalmological monitoring if any ocular manifestation occurs.Damien Sène Valérie Touitou Bahram Bodaghi David Saadoun Gabriel Perlemuter Nathalie Cassoux Jean-Charles Piette Phuc Le Hoang Patrice Cacoub 2007World Journal of Gastroenterology2007,13,22:5
MicroRNAs as emerging biomarkers and therapeutic targets for pancreatic cancer显示文摘Despite tremendous efforts from scientists and clinicians worldwide, pancreatic adenocarcinoma(PDAC) remains a deadly disease due to the lack of early diagnostic tools and reliable therapeutic approaches. Consequently, a majority of patients(80%) display an advanced disease that results in a low resection rate leading to an overall median survival of less than 6 months. Accordingly, robust markers for the early diagnosis and prognosis of pancreatic cancer, or markers indicative of survival and/or metastatic disease are des-perately needed to help alleviate the dismal prognosis of this cancer. In addition, the discovery of new therapeutic targets is mandatory to design effective treatments. In this review, we will highlight the translational studies demonstrating that microRNAs may soon translate into clinical applications as long-awaited screening tools and therapeutic targets for PDAC.Marion Gayral Sébastien Jo Naima Hanoun Alix Vignolle-Vidoni Hubert Lulka Yannick Delpu Aline Meulle Marlène Dufresne Marine Humeau Maёl Chalret du Rieu Barbara Bournet Janick Sèlves Rosine Guimbaud Nicolas Carrère Louis Buscail Jérome Torrisani Pierre Cordelier 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,32:4
A Rapid and Cost-Effective Method for Genotyping Genome-Edited Animals:A Heteroduplex Mobility Assay Using Microfluidic Capillary Electrophoresis显示文摘The recent emergence and application of engineered endonucleases have led to the development of genome editing tools capable of rapidly implementing various targeted genome editions in a wide range of species. Moreover, these novel tools have become easier to use and have resulted in a great increase of applications.Whilst gene knockout(KO) or knockin(KI) animal models are relatively easy to achieve, there is a bottleneck in the detection and analysis of these mutations.Although several methods exist to detect these targeted mutations,we developed a heteroduplex mobility assay on an automated microfluidic capillary electrophoresis system named HMA-CE in order to accelerate the genotyping process. The HMA-CE method uses a simple PCR amplification of genomic DNA(gDNA) followed by an automated capillary electrophoresis step which reveals a heteroduplexes(HD) signature for each mutation. This allows efficient discrimination of wild-type and genome-edited animals down to the single base pair level.Vanessa Chenouard Lucas Brusselle Jean-Marie Heslan Séverine Remy Séverine Ménoret Claire Usal Laure-Hélène Ouisse Tuan Huy NGuyen Ignacio Anegon Laurent Tesson 2016Journal of Genetics and Genomics2016,43,5:4
Natural polyphenols effects on protein aggregates in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's prion-like diseases显示文摘Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases are the most common neurodegenerative diseases. They are characterized by protein aggregates and so can be considered as prion-like disease. The major components of these deposits are amyloid peptide and tau for Alzheimer's disease, α-synuclein and synphilin-1 for Parkinson's disease. Drugs currently proposed to treat these pathologies do not prevent neurodegenerative processes and are mainly symptomatic therapies. Molecules inducing inhibition of aggregation or disaggregation of these proteins could have beneficial effects, especially if they have other beneficial effects for these diseases. Thus, several natural polyphenols, which have antioxidative, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties, have been largely studied, for their effects on protein aggregates found in these diseases, notably in vitro. In this article, we propose to review the significant papers concerning the role of polyphenols on aggregation and disaggregation of amyloid peptide, tau, α-synuclein, synphilin-1, suggesting that these compounds could be useful in the treatments in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.aline freyssin guylène page bernard fauconneau agnès rioux bilan 2018Neural Regeneration Research2018,13,6:3
Natural stilbenes effects in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease显示文摘Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most frequent neurodegenerative diseases. This pathology is characterized by protein aggregates, mainly constituted by amyloid peptide and tau, leading to neuronal death and cognitive impairments.Drugs currently proposed to treat this pathology do not prevent neurodegenerative processes and are mainly symptomatic therapies. However, stilbenes presenting multiple pharmacological effects could be good potential therapeutic candidates. The aim of this review is to gather the more significant papers among the broad literature on this topic, concerning the beneficial effects of stilbenes (resveratrol derivatives) in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease.Indeed, numerous studies focus on cellular models, but an in vivo approach remains of primary importance since in animals (mice or rats, generally),bioavailability and metabolism are taken into account, which is not the case in in vitro studies.Furthermore, examination of memory ability is feasible in animal models, which strengthens the relevance of a compound with a view to future therapy in humans. This paper is addressed to any researcher who needs to study untested natural stilbenes or who wants to experiment the most effective natural stilbenes in largest animals or in humans. This review shows that resveratrol, the reference polyphenol,is largely studied and seems to have interesting properties on amyloid plaques, and cognitive impairment. However, some resveratrol derivatives such as gnetin C,trans-piceid,or astringin have never been tested on animals.Furthermore, pterostilbene is of particular interest,by its improvement of cognitive disorders and its neuroprotective role.It could be relevant to evaluate this molecule in clinical trials.Aline Freyssin Guylène Page Bernard Fauconneau Agnès Rioux Bilan 2020Neural Regeneration Research2020,15,5:2
