| 8 | BMI, WC, WHtR, VFI and BFI: Which Indictor is the Most Efficient Screening Index on Type 2 Diabetes in Chinese Community Population显示文摘Objective Obesity is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, many indexes can be used to describes obesity and predict diabetes. This research attempts to identify the best indicator of obesity to screening diabetes in Chinese population. Methods A cross-sectional data of 8121 subjects aged 35-60 years were included in this research belongs to the Diabetes Appropriate Technology Intervention Study. Anthropometric indicators including body weight, height, waist circumferences (WC), body fat index (BFI) and visceral fat index (VFI) and blood biochemical indicators after an overnight fast [fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and triacylglycerol] were measured. BMI (body mass index) and Weight to Height Ratio was calculated. Results Subjects with obesity had a higher risk of physician diagnosed diabetes (OR=2.50, 95% CI 1.83-3.43), new diagnosed diabetes (OR=4.23, 95% CI 2.91-6.15) and pre-diabetes (OR=1.75, 95% CI 1.31-2.34) compared to those with normal Body mass index (BMI). There was a significant trend of increased risk of all diabetes status with increased waist circumference (WC). The waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) yielded the most significant association with new diagnosed diabetes and physician diagnosed diabetes than other indices. Conclusion Central obesity is significantly correlated with diabetes. | 13 | Risk Factors for Lung Cancer in Non-smokers in Xuanwei County of China显示文摘Tobacco smoking and some types of occupational exposures have consistently been considered as important etiologic factors of lung cancer in industrial countrie.At the First World Conference of Lung Cancer(Wyndwer,1983),it was stressed that more attention should be paid to finding out the causes of lung cancer in non-smokers. In Xuanwei County,Yunnan Province,annual lung cancer death rate was 27.7per 100,000 in males,among China's highest,and 25.3per 100,000 in females,the China's highest.The remale's lung cancer death rate in Xuanwei County was even much higher than that of the same period in USA white women(ECACM,1979;Mulvihill,1976),Marked district variation in cancer mortality exists within xuanwei County.The county can be ivided into high-,medium-and low-mortality areas.Over90% of the population are farmers.The local residents traditionally burned three major kinds of fuels:“smoky” coal,“smokeless”coal and “wood”,for heating and cooking.The three lung cancer high mortality areas,including “Chengguan”,“Rongcheng”and “Laibin”communes,mainly burned the “smoky”!coal from Laibin smoky-coal mine.The fuel was burned in a shallow,unventiated fire pit in the floor of the dwelling.Fuel burning in shallow unventialated pits has resulted in high indoor air pollution levels.The concentrations of airborne particles(pm10) inside houses during smoky coal and wood combustion were very high.Indoor concentration of suspended particulates and dichloromethane extractable organics were 244.4mg/m^3 and 17.6mg/m^3 in burning of “smoky”coal;22.2mg/m^3,12.3mg/m^3 for burning wood;and 1.8mg/m^3,0.5mg/m^3 for burning of smokeless coals.Levels of individual polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.including benzo(a)pyrene,were generally highest during burning of smoky coal,intermediate in burning wood,and least in smokeless coal.Women did most household chores.which include starting fire and cooking.Less than 0.2% of females smoked tobacco.The population-based casecontrol study presented here is to evaluate the influence of factors on the occurrence of lung cancer in non-smoking women in Xuanwei County and to supplement the etiologic factors of lung cancer in Xuanwei County. | LAN QING, CHEN WEI, CHEN HONG, AND HE XING-ZHOUInstitute of Environmental Health and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine 29 Nan Wei Road, Beijing 100050, China | 1993 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences1993，6，2： | 13 |

| 15 | Dachaihu decoction ameliorates pancreatic fibrosis by inhibiting macrophage infiltration in chronic pancreatitis显示文摘AIM To explore the role of macrophages in chronic pancreatitis(CP) and the effect of Dachaihu decoction(DCHD) on pancreatic fibrosis in mice.METHODS Kun Ming mice were randomly divided into a control group, CP group, and DCHD group. In the CP and DCHD groups, mice were intraperitoneally injected with 20% L-arginine(3 g/kg twice 1 d/wk for 6 wk). Mice in the DCHD group were administered DCHD intragastrically at a dose of 14 g/kg/d 1 wk after CP induction. At 2 wk, 4 wk and 6 wk post-modeling, the morphology of the pancreas was observed using hematoxylin and eosin, and Masson staining. Interleukin-6(IL-6) serum levels were assayed using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Double immunofluorescence staining was performed to observe the co-expression of F4/80 and IL-6 in the pancreas. Inflammatory factors including monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1), macrophage inflammatory protein-1α(MIP-1α) and IL-6 were determined using real time-polymerase chain reaction. Western blot analysis was used to detect fibronectin levels in the pancreas. RESULTS Compared with the control group, mice with 20% L-arginine-induced CP had obvious macrophage infiltration and a higher level of fibrosis. IL-6 serum concentrations were significantly increased. Double immunofluorescence staining showed that IL-6 and F4/80 were co-expressed in the pancreas. With the administration of DCHD, the infiltration of macrophages and degree of fibrosis in the pancreas were significantly attenuated; IL-6, MCP-1 and MIP-1α m RNA, and fibronectin levels were reduced. CONCLUSION The dominant role of macrophages in the development of CP was mainly related to IL-6 production. In this note, the preparation of seed, the growth of crystal and some problems encountered are reported. The lattice parameters of BIBO are a =7.1203(7)A, b = 4.9948(7)A, c = 6.5077(7)A, β= 105.586(8) ', V=222.93(5)A3, which were determined by BRUKER-P4 four-circle diffractometer. BIBO is biaxial crystal and the relative orientation of (X, Y, Z) with regard to (a, b, c) is: X|| b, (Y, c) =47.2°, (Z, a) = 31.6°, determined by the X-ray analysis combined with polarized microscopy. The second-harmonic-generation (SHG) conversion efficiency of the sample for 1.064 μm light is up to 67.7%. We have also obtained the third harmonic generation (THG) of 1.064 μm, namely, 1.064 μm + 0.532 μn →0.355 μm. | 19 | TaqMan Real-time RT-PCR Assay for Detecting and Differentiating Japanese Encephalitis Virus显示文摘Objective To detect Japanese encephalitis virus(JEV) rapidly and distinguish its genotypes, a TaqMan-based reverse transcriptase quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) detection system was developed.Methods By aligning the full-length sequences of JEV(G1-G5), six sets of highly specific TaqMan real-time RT-PCR primers and probes were designed based on the highly conserved NS1, NS2, and M genes of JEV, which included one set for non-specific JEV detection and five sets for the detection of specific JEV genotypes. Twenty batches of mosquito samples were used to evaluate our quantitative PCR assay.Results With the specific assay, no other flavivirus were detected. The lower limits of detection of the system were 1 pfu/mL for JEV titers and 100 RNA copies/μL. The coefficients of variation of this real-time RT-PCR were all < 2.8%.
