| 4 | Effects of freeze-thaw cycle on engineering properties of loess used as road fills in seasonally frozen ground regions,North China显示文摘Compacted loess is widely used as fills of road embankments in loess regions of northern China.Generally, densely-compacted loess can satisfy the requirements of embankment strength and postconstruction deformation. However, uneven subsidence, pavement cracks and other related damages can affect the integrity of loess subgrade after several years of operation,and even cause some hazards, especially in North China, where the strong freeze-thaw erosion occurs. In this study, cyclic freeze-thaw tests for both densely and loosely compacted loess samples were performed to determine the variation in engineering properties such as volume, void ratio, collapsible settlement,microstructure, and the related mechanisms were addressed. The experimental results showed that an obvious water migration and redistribution occurred within the samples during freeze-thaw cycles. Ice lenses and fissures could be identified in the upper frozen layers of the samples. After freeze-thaw cycles,the dry densities of the upper layers of samples changed significantly due to strong freeze-thaw erosion. The dry densities decreased for the dense sample and increased for the loose sample. It can be found that dense samples become loose, while loose samples became dense with the increasing number of freeze-thaw cycles. Their related void ratios changed reversely. Both void ratios tended to fall into a certain range, which verified the concept of a residual void ratio proposed by Viklander. | 5 | Yiguanjian decoction enhances fetal liver stem/progenitor cell-mediated repair of liver cirrhosis through regulation of macrophage activation state显示文摘AIM To investigate whether Yiguanjian decoction(YGJ) has an anti-liver cirrhotic effect and whether it regulates hepatic stem cell differentiation.METHODS A rat model of liver cirrhosis was established via subcutaneous injection of carbon tetrachloride(CCl4) for8 wk. From the beginning of the ninth week, the rats received 2-acetylaminofluorene(2-AAF) by oral gavage and a DLK-1+ fetal liver stem/progenitor cell(FLSPC)transplant or an FLSPC transplant in combination with YGJ treatment for 4 wk. In vitro, lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-activated macrophages were co-cultured with WB-F344 cells, and the differentiation of WB-F344 cells was observed in the presence and absence of YGJ treatment.RESULTS FLSPC transplantation improved liver function and histopathology, and inhibited the activation of the noncanonical Wnt signaling pathway, while activating the canonical Wnt signaling pathway. | 6 | A transgene-free method for rapid and efficient generation of precisely edited pigs without monoclonal selection显示文摘Gene-edited pigs for agricultural and biomedical applications are typically generated using somatic cell nuclear transfer(SCNT).However, SCNT requires the use of monoclonal cells as donors, and the time-consuming and laborious monoclonal selection process limits the production of large populations of gene-edited animals. Here, we developed a rapid and efficient method named RE-DSRNP(reporter RNA enriched dual-sg RNA/CRISPR-Cas9 ribonucleoproteins) for generating gene-edited donor cells. RE-DSRNP takes advantage of the precise and efficient editing features of dual-sg RNA and the high editing efficiency, low off-target effects, transgene-free nature, and low cytotoxic characteristics of reporter RNA enriched RNPs(CRISPR-Cas9ribonucleoproteins), thus eliminating the need for the selection of monoclonal cells and thereby greatly reducing the generation time of donor cells from 3–4 weeks to 1 week, while also reducing the extent of apoptosis and chromosomal aneuploidy of donor cells. We applied RE-DSRNP to produce cloned pigs bearing a deletion edit of the wild-type p53-induced phosphatase 1(WIP1)gene: among 32 weaned cloned pigs, 31(97%) carried WIP1 edits, and 15(47%) were homozygous for the designed fragment deletion, and no off-target event was detected. The WIP1 knockout(KO) pigs exhibited male reproductive disorders, illustrating the utility of RE-DSRNP for rapidly generating precisely edited animals for functional genomics and disease research. | 10 | High levels of circulating GM-CSF^(+) CD4^(+) T cells are predictive of poor outcomes in sepsis patients: a prospective cohort study显示文摘Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor(GM-CSF),produced by CD4^(+)T cells,has recently been implicated in the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases,such as multiple sclerosis and juvenile arthritis.However,the role of GM-CSF-producing CD4^(+)T cells in sepsis remains unknown.This study reports peripheral changes in GM-CSF-producing CD4^(+)T cells in septic patients and the possible underlying mechanism by which GM-CSF influences the outcome of sepsis.Forty-three septic patients,20 SIRS patients,and 20 healthy controls were enrolled in this study and followed for 28 days to assess mortality.We measured the peripheral frequency of GM-CSF^(+)CD4^(+)T cells and recorded their associated relationship with disease progression.Our data demonstrated that peripheral GM-CSF-producing CD4^(+)T cells were significantly higher in septic patients than in both SIRS patients and healthy controls.These cells exhibit a memory phenotype and impaired IFN-γ-secreting capacity in sepsis patients.Using a receiver operating curve analysis with 8.01%as a cut-off point,the percentage of GM-CSF^(+)CD4^(+)T cells could predict the outcome of septic patients.Combined with the increase in GM-CSF-producing CD4^(+)T cells,inflammatory cytokines IL-1βand IL-6 were also upregulated.Using an in vitro neutrophil model,we found that GM-CSF inhibited C3aR expression,while inducing IL-8 production.Furthermore,this effect was transferrable in plasma from sepsis patients and was attenuated by inhibition of GM-CSF using an anti-GM-CSF antibody.These results indicate that GM-CSF-producing CD4^(+)T cells may serve as a marker of sepsis severity.Thus,targeting GM-CSF overproduction may benefit sepsis patients. | Huihuang Huang Siyu Wang Tianjun Jiang Rong Fan Zheng Zhang Jinsong Mu Ke Li Yonggang Wang Lei Jin Fang Lin Jie Xia Lijian Sun Biao Xu Chengcheng Ji Jing Chen Juan Chang Bo Tu Bing Song Chao Zhang Fu-Sheng Wang Ruonan Xu | 2019 | Cellular & Molecular Immunology2019,16,6: | 6 |

| 12 | A short-term study of corneal collagen cross-linking with hypo-osmolar riboflavin solution in keratoconic corneas显示文摘AIM: To report the 3mo outcomes of collagen crosslinking(CXL) with a hypo-osmolar riboflavin in thin corneas with the thinnest thickness less than 400 μm without epithelium.METHODS: Eight eyes in 6 patients with age 26.2±4.8y were included in the study. All patients underwent CXL using a hypo-osmolar riboflavin solution after its de-epithelization. Best corrected visual acuity, manifest refraction, the thinnest corneal thickness, and endothelial cell density were evaluated before and 3mo after the procedure.RESULTS: The mean thinnest thickness of the cornea was 408.5 ±29.0 μm before treatment and reduced to369.8 ±24.8 μm after the removal of epithelium. With the application of the hypo-osmolar riboflavin solution, the thickness increased to 445.0 ±26.5 μm before CXL and recover to 412.5 ±22.7 μm at 3mo after treatment, P =0.659). Before surgery, the mean K-value of the apex of the keratoconus corneas was 57.6 ±4.0 diopters, and slightly decreased(54.7±4.9 diopters) after surgery(P =0.085). Mean best-corrected visual acuity was 0.55 ±0.23 logarithm of the minimal angle of resolution, and increased to 0.53±0.26 logarithm after surgery(P =0.879).The endothelial cell density was 2706.4 ±201.6 cells/mm2 before treatment, and slightly decreased( 2641. 2 ±218.2 cells/mm2) at last fellow up(P =0.002).CONCLUSION: Corneal collagen cross-linking with a hypo-osmolar riboflavin in thin corneas seems to be a promising treatment. | 14 | Substantial transition to clean household energy mix in rural China显示文摘The household energy mix has significant impacts on human health and climate,as it contributes greatly to many health-and climate-relevant air pollutants.Compared to the well-established urban energy statistical system,the rural household energy statistical system is incomplete and is often associated with high biases.Via a nationwide investigation,this study revealed high contributions to energy supply from coal and biomass fuels in the rural household energy sector,while electricity comprised∼20%.Stacking(the use of multiple sources of energy)is significant,and the average number of energy types was 2.8 per household.Compared to 2012,the consumption of biomass and coals in 2017 decreased by 45%and 12%,respectively,while the gas consumption amount increased by 204%.Increased gas and decreased coal consumptions were mainly in cooking,while decreased biomass was in both cooking(41%)and heating(59%).The time-sharing fraction of electricity and gases(E&G)for daily cooking grew,reaching 69%in 2017,but for space heating,traditional solid fuels were still dominant,with the national average shared fraction of E&G being only 20%.The non-uniform spatial distribution and the non-linear increase in the fraction of E&G indicated challenges to achieving universal access to modern cooking energy by 2030,particularly in less-developed rural and mountainous areas.In some non-typical heating zones,the increased share of E&G for heating was significant and largely driven by income growth,but in typical heating zones,the time-sharing fraction was<5%and was not significantly increased,except in areas with policy intervention.The intervention policy not only led to dramatic increases in the clean energy fraction for heating but also accelerated the clean cooking transition.Higher income,higher education,younger age,less energy/stove stacking and smaller family size positively impacted the clean energy transition. | Guofeng Shen Rui Xiong Yanlin Tian Zhihan Luo Bahabaike Jiangtulu Wenjun Meng Wei Du Jing Meng Yuanchen Chen Bing Xue Bin Wang Yonghong Duan Jia Duo Fenggui Fan Lei Huang Tianzhen Ju Fenggui Liu Shunxin Li Xianli Liu Yungui Li Mu Wang Ying Nan Bo Pan Yanfang Pan Lizhi Wang Eddy Zeng Chao Zhan Yilin Chen Huizhong Shen Hefa Cheng Shu Tao | 2022 | National Science Review2022,9,7: | 4 |
| 15 | Dose-dense paclitaxel plus carboplatin vs.epirubicin and cyclophosphamide with paclitaxel as adjuvant chemotherapy for high-risk triple-negative breast cancer显示文摘Objective:The objective of this open-label,randomized study was to compare dose-dense paclitaxel plus carboplatin(PCdd)with dose-dense epirubicin and cyclophosphamide followed by paclitaxel(ECdd-P)as an adjuvant chemotherapy for early triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC).Methods:We included Chinese patients with high recurrence risk TNBC who underwent primary breast cancer surgery.They were randomly assigned to receive PCdd[paclitaxel 150 mg/m2 on d 1 and carboplatin,the area under the curve,(AUC)=3 on d 2]or ECdd-P(epirubicin 80 mg/m2 divided in 2 d and cyclophosphamide 600 mg/m2 on d 1 for 4 cycles followed by paclitaxel 175 mg/m2 on d 1 for 4 cycles)every 2 weeks with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor(G-CSF)support.The primary endpoint was 3-year disease-free survival(DFS);the secondary endpoints were overall survival(OS)and safety.Results:The intent-to-treat population included 143 patients(70 in the PCdd arm and 73 in the ECdd-P arm).Compared with the ECdd-P arm,the PCdd arm had significantly higher 3-year DFS[93.9%vs.79.1%;hazard ratio(HR)=0.310;95%confidence interval(95%CI),0.137-0.704;log-rank,P=0.005]and OS(98.5%vs.92.9%;HR=0.142;95%CI,0.060-0.825;log-rank,P=0.028).Worse neutropenia(grade 3/4)was found in the ECdd-P than the PCdd arm(47.9%V5.21.4%,P=0.001).Conclusions:PCdd was superior to ECdd-P as an adjuvant chemotherapy for early TNBC with respect to improving the 3-year DFS and OS.PCdd also yielded lower hematological toxicity.Thus,PCdd might be a preferred regimen for early TNBC patients with a high recurrence risk. | Qing Li Jiani Wang Yuxin Mu Tongtong Zhang Ying Han Jiayu Wang Qiao Li Yang Luo Fei Ma Ying Fan Pin Zhang Binghe Xulj | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2020,32,4: | 4 |
| 16 | Malnutrition Increases the Risk of Mortality in Hospitalized Lung Cancer Patients显示文摘Background The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition(GLIM)recently developed a new set of diagnostic criteria for identifying patients with malnutrition.Because the GLIM criteria were only introduced a little over 3 years ago,additional validation and reliability testing are needed in a variety of populations.Methods We performed an observational,multicenter cohort study.From July 2013 to October 2018,lung cancer patients were recruited from the Daping Hospital of Army Medical University and the First Hospital of Jilin University as part of the INSCOC project.Previously-established cut-off values for the calf circumference(CC,male<30 cm,female<29.5 cm)were applied as the reduced muscal mass of phenotypic criteria to establish the GLIM diagnosis.Multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to analyze the association between the GLIM criteria and survival.Results A total of 1219 patients with lung cancer were studied as subjects.Their age was 58.81±9.92 years old,and 820 were male and 399 were female.According to the GLIM diagnostic criteria using the CC as a muscle mass measurement,303 patients(24.9%)were categorized as malnourished,142 patients(23.1%)in the adult group(18≤age<60)and 161 patients(26.7%)in the older group(age≥60 years).The patients with malnutrition had a higher incidence of anemia than the nourished patients(P=0.012).The QLQ-C30 score and KPS score indicating that the malnourished patients had a consistently worse quality of life compared to the nourished group(all P<0.001).The median survival of the malnutrition group was 42(95%CI:34-50)months,which was much shorter than the 62(95%CI:57-66)months in the nourished group(P<0.001).In the adult group,the median survival decreased from 65(95%CI:55-72)months in nourished group to 34(95%CI:25-48)months in the patients with malnutrition(P<0.001).In the older group,it decreased from 61(95%CI:55-67)months to 48(95%CI:39-59)months(P=0.001).A Cox regression analysis showed that GLIM-diagnosed malnutrition was associated with an increased risk of death among adult group(HR=1.670,95%CI:1.29-2.16),older group(HR=1.332,95%CI:1.05-1.69)and overall(HR=1.453,95%CI:1.22-1.72).Conclusion All of these results demonstrate that GLIM-diagnosed malnutrition is associated with a poorer survival for all lung cancer patients,independent of age. | Fei Fei Chong Liang Yu Yin Jie Liu Na Li Jing Guo Yang Fan Meng Yuan Zhang Ling Zhang Xiu Mei He Hong Mei Zhang Mu Li Shi Wei Li Hong Xia Xu | 2022 | Journal of Nutritional Oncology2022,7,1: | 4 |
| 17 | Improvement of Sinter Properties With Ultra Fine-Sized Iron Concentrate by HPRG显示文摘The experiments were conducted on the changes of sintering performance of one kind of ultra fine-sized iron concentrate with or without being processed by high pressure roll grinding(HPRG).The experimental results indicate that the specific surface area increases from 1 723.0 to 2 201.6cm2/g when the iron concentrate is processed by HPRG.The permeability of sintering mix increases and the iron concentrate becomes easy to react with CaO reagent at high temperature.The effect gets intensified when iron concentrate and lime are processed together by HPRG.The further studies indicate that compared with the base case,the sinter quality also gets improved,in which the yield of sinter increases from 67.24%to 69.52%and further to 71.68%,the tumble index(TI)increases from 60.38% to 62.13% and further to 64.45%,and the productivity increases from 1.42to 1.57t/(m2·h)a nd further to 1.62t/(m2·h) when the iron concentrate is processed by HPRG or is processed with lime together.The metallurgical properties of sinter also get improved when the iron concentrate is pretreated by high pressure roll.The results indicate that it is conducive to the increase of sinter quality and productivity when the iron concentrates are processed by HPRG. | FAN Jian-jun QIU Guan-zhou JIANG Tao GUO Yu-feng MU Ke-lang | 2013 | Journal of Iron and Steel Research(International)2013,20,9: | 4 |

| 19 | Discovery of Wolitu Pb-Zn deposit through geochemical prospecting under loess cover in Inner Mongolia, China显示文摘We report the finding of the Wolitu Pb-Zn deposit in Inner Mongolia, China, through a series of geochemical surveys. The Wolitu area, located in the loess-cover area in the Hure Banner, Tongliao City,Inner Mongolia, and neighboring the Horqin Sandy Land to the north, had no previous history of Pb-Zn mining or record of Pb-Zn mineralization. Our study identified a large Pb-Zn anomaly with potential zones of mineralization by stream sediment survey. Random rock sampling reveals limonitization at sporadic outcrops in the gullies. The high concentrations of Pb in the residual debris provided guidelines to fix the position for exploratory trench. Oxidized concealed orebodies were identified by trenching.Blind orebodies in veins hosted within the structural zone between slates and marbles of the upper Carboniferous Shizuizi Formation and the Permian granite were discovered by drilling. It is computed that the ore reserve may reach up to 540,000 tones with Pb grade of 1.27% and Zn of 1.9%.
