| 1 | Prospective evaluation of point-of-care ultrasound for pre-procedure identification of landmarks versus traditional palpation for lumbar puncture显示文摘BACKGROUND: The objective of this study is to determine if point-of-care ultrasound(POCUS) pre-procedure identification of landmarks can decrease failure rate, reduce procedural time, and decrease the number of needle redirections and reinsertions when performing a lumbar puncture(LP).METHODS: This was a prospective, randomized controlled trial comparing POCUS preprocedure identifi cation of landmarks versus traditional palpation for LP in a cohort of patients in the emergency department and intensive care unit.RESULTS: A total of 158 patients were enrolled. | 5 | Breast cancer therapy by laser-induced Coulomb explosion of gold nanoparticles显示文摘Objective:Laser-induced Coulomb explosion of gold nanoparticles for breast cancer has been studied by nanophotolysis technique.This study aimed to investigate whether laser-induced bubble formation due to Coulomb explosion can provide an effective approach for selective damage of breast cancer with gold nanoparticles.Method:Numerical method involves laser-induced Coulomb explosion of gold nanoparticles.Different parameters related to nanophotolysis such as laser fluence,tumor depth,cluster radius,laser pulse duration,and bubble formation is studied numerically.Numerical simulation was performed using Mat lab.Results:The gold nanoparticles of 10,20,30,40,and 50 nm in radius could penetrate into tumor 1.14,1.155,1.189,1.20 and 1.22 cm in depth respectively.The maximum penetration depth in tumor could be obtained with nanoparticles of 50 nm radius.Short laser pulse of 40 ns with nanoparticles of 10 nm radius could penetrate into tumor 1.14 cm in depth.Bubbles with a radius of 9μm could effectively kill breast cancer cells without damaging healthy ones.The bubble radius increased from 4 to 9μm with an increase in pulse duration in the range of 10 to 30 ns.Conclusions:Gold nanoparticles with increasing radius and bubble formation for selective damage of breast cancer cells are successfully probed.The present calculated results are compared with other experimental findings,and good correlation is found between the present work and previous experimental values.It was demonstrated that bubble formation in tumor may further increase the efficacy of breast cancer treatment. | Muhammad Gul Bahar Ashiq Mohammad Alam Saeed Bashir Ahmad Tahir Noorddin Ibrahim Muhammad Nadeem | 2013 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2013,25,6: | 0 |
| 6 | ROLE OF ACULASER THERAPY IN CEREBRAL PALSY CHILDERN (INITIAL DATA & RESULTS)显示文摘A single, open and non-comparative study was conducted at Anwar Shah’s First C.P. & Paralysis Clinic and Research Center to evaluate the effects of Aculaser (acupoint-laser) Therapy for children suffering from cerebral palsy (CP) of various types. These children were further classified according to their major complaints. Analysis of the data indicated that 11 children with severe spasticity and stiffness all showed marked improvement (100% success rate); of the 8 children with epileptic fits, 6 patients had a significant reduction in the intensity, frequency and duration of epileptic fits, while the rest 2 cases showed no any improvement or aggravation (75% success rate); out of 5 children with cortical blindness, 2 cases showed complete recovery of vision and 3 had marked improvement (40% cure rate); out of 4 children with hearing difficulties, 2 showed marked improvement (50% success rate); out of 14 children with aphasis, 8 showed improvement (57% improvement rate). | 7 | Coagulation abnormalities and their relationship with bleeding manifestations in patients with dengue-A single center observational study显示文摘Objective:To evaluate coagulation abnormalities and their relationship with bleeding manifestations among patients with dengue.Methods:This observational study was conducted on 292 adult dengue patients who were admitted to a tertiary care hospital of Western India from July 2021 to June 2022.Coagulation tests including prothrombin time(PT),international normalized ratio(INR),activated partial thromboplastin time(aPTT),fibrinogen,and D-dimer were performed.Patients were monitored for bleeding manifestations.Results:Coagulation abnormalities were reported in 42.8%of the patients.Overall,prolonged aPTT was the most common coagulation abnormality(40.8%),followed by low fibrinogen(38.7%),raised D-dimer(31.2%),raised INR(26.0%)and prolonged PT(19.2%).Bleeding manifestations were present in 19.9%patients.PT,INR,aPTT and D-dimer levels were significantly higher(P<0.01)and fibrinogen level was significantly lower(P<0.001)in patients with bleeding compared to patients without bleeding.Patients with bleeding had a significantly higher rate of all coagulation abnormalities than patients without bleeding(P<0.01).Conclusions:Patients with bleeding showed a significantly higher frequency of coagulation abnormalities compared to patients without bleeding.Patients with dengue should be assessed for coagulation abnormalities. | Govind R.Patel Indu Thanvi Mohammad Nadeem Rahul Kanwaria | 2023 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2023,16,2: | 0 |
| 8 | Unsteady Flow and Heat Transfer of a Casson Micropolar Nanofluid over a Curved Stretching/Shrinking Surface显示文摘We present the results of an investigation into the behavior of the unsteady flow of a Casson Micropolar nanofluid over a shrinking/stretching curved surface,together with a heat transfer analysis of the same problem.The body force acting perpendicular to the surface wall is in charge of regulating the fluid flow rate.Curvilinear coordinates are used to account for the considered curved geometry and a set of balance equations for mass,momentum,energy and concentration is obtained accordingly.These are turned into ordinary differential equations using a similarity transformation.We show that these equations have dual solutions for a number of different combinations of various parameters.The stability of such solutions is investigated by applying perturbations on the steady states.It is found that high values of the Micropolar and Casson parameters cause the flow to move more slowly.However,when compared to a shrunken surface,a stretched surface produces a greater Micro-rotation flux. | Muhammad A.Sadiq Nadeem Abbas Haitham M.S.Bahaidarah Mohammad Amjad | 2023 | Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing2023,19,2: | 0 |

| 10 | Hepatotoxicity associated with Garcinia cambogia: A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Herbal supplements(HS)for weight loss are perceived to be“safe”and“natural”,as advertised in ads,however,hepatotoxicity can be associated with consumption of some HS.Use of HS may be missed,as the patient may not report these unless specifically asked about these products,since they are often not thought of as medications with potential side effects or interaction potential.CASE SUMMARY We reported a case of a 21-year-old female with morbid obesity who presented with abdominal pain for 1 wk associated with nausea,vomiting,anorexia and myalgias.She denied smoking tobacco,drinking alcohol,usage of illicit drugs,hormonal contraceptives,or energy drinks.There was no significant past medical or family illnesses.Her laboratory workup revealed acute liver failure.The workup for possible etiologies of acute liver failure was unremarkable.She was using a weight loss herbal supplement“Garcinia cambogia”for 4 wks.This case demonstrates the association of acute liver failure with Garcinia cambogia.CONCLUSION Medical reconciliation of HS should be performed in patients with suspected acute liver failure and early discontinuation of HS can prevent further progression of drug induced hepatoxicity. | Muhammad Nadeem Yousaf Fizah S Chaudhary Seyed Mohammad Hodanazari Charmian D Sittambalam | 2019 | World Journal of Hepatology2019,11,11: | 0 |
| 11 | Cd and Hg Mediated Oxidative Stress,Antioxidative Metabolism and Molecular Changes in Soybean(Glycine max L.)显示文摘Cadmium(Cd)and Mercury(Hg)is among the heavy metals most hazardous for plant and human health.Known to induce oxidative stress in plants and disbalance equilibrium in the antioxidant defence system,these metals alter plant growth and cause damage at the cellular and molecular levels.Soybean is an important oilseed crop that is raised in soils often contaminated by Cd and Hg.The comparative studies on the deleterious effect of Cd and Hg and the defence system of antioxidants were not studied earlier in soybean plant.In this study,soybean plants were exposed to Cd(100μM CdCl_(2))and Hg(100μM HgCl_(2))and studied for physiological,biochemical and molecular responses.Both Cd and Hg treatment increased the magnitude of oxidative stress.Activities of antioxidant enzymes were significantly upregulated in response to Cd and Hg stress.Quantitative and qualitative assessment of isolated RNA showed significant differences in RNA under stress.Integrity values of RNA confirmed alterations.Transcript level of the Actin gene,involved in the morphogenesis of plants and also used as referenced gene in expression studies was analyzed using qRT-PCR just to check its stability and response under heavy metal stress.Results showed significant upregulation of the gene in the presence of Cd.It can be concluded that both Cd and Hg caused oxidative damage to plants,and adversely affected the quality of RNA.However,soybean tried to limit the adverse impacts of Cd and Hg stress by elevating the antioxidant system and upregulating Actin gene. | Sheeba Naaz Nadeem Ahmad Asma AAl-Huqail Mohammad Irfan Faheema Khan Mohammad Irfan Qureshi | 2023 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2023,92,6: | 0 |
