| 1 | Combined Applications of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Fertilizers with Manure Increase Maize Yield and Nutrient Uptake via Stimulating Root Growth in a Long-Term Experiment显示文摘Imbalanced application of nitrogen(N) and phosphorus(P) fertilizers can result in reduced crop yield,low nutrient use efficiency,and high loss of nutrients and soil nitrate nitrogen(NO_3^--N) accumulation decreases when N is applied with P and/or manure;however,the effect of applications of N with P and/or manure on root growth and distribution in the soil profile is not fully understood.The aim of this study was to investigate the combined effects of different N and P fertilizer application rates with or without manure on maize(Zea mays L.) yield,N uptake,root growth,apparent N surplus,Olsen-P concentration,and mineral N(N_(min)) accumulation in a fluvo-aquic calcareous soil from a long-term(28-year) experiment.The experiment comprised twelve combinations of chemical N and P fertilizers,either with or without chicken manure,as treatments in four replicates.The yield of maize grain was 82%higher,the N uptake 100%higher,and the N_(min) accumulation 39%lower in the treatments with combined N and P in comparison to N fertilizer only.The maize root length density in the 30-60 cm layer was three times greater in the treatments with N and P fertilizers than with N fertilizer only.Manure addition increased maize yield by 50%and N uptake by 43%,and reduced N_(min)(mostly NO_3^--N) accumulation in the soil by 46%.The long-term application of manure and P fertilizer resulted in significant increases in soil Olsen-P concentration when no N fertilizer was applied.Manure application reduced the apparent N surplus for all treatments.These results suggest that combined N and P fertilizer applications could enhance maize grain yield and nutrient uptake via stimulating root growth,leading to reduced accumulation of potentially leachable NO_3^--N in soil,and manure application was a practical way to improve degraded soils in China and the rest of the world. | WEN Zhihui SHEN Jianbo Martin BLACKWELL LI Haigang ZHAO Bingqiang YUAN Huimin | 2016 | Pedosphere2016,26,1: | 29 |

| 5 | Survival of transplanted neurotrophin-3 expressing human neural stem cells and motor function in a rat model of spinal cord injury显示文摘<正>BACKGROUND:Many methods have been attempted to repair nerves following spinal cord injury, including peripheral nerve transplantation,Schwann cell transplantation,olfactory ensheathing cell transplantation,and embryonic neural tissue transplantation.However,there is a need for improved outcomes. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the repair feasibility for rat spinal cord injury using human neural stem cells(hNSCs) genetically modified by lentivirus to express neurotrophin-3. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:In vitro cell biological experiment and in vivo randomized,controlled, genetic engineering experiment were performed at the Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA and First People's Hospital of Yibin,China from March 2006 to December 2007. MATERIALS:A total of 64 adult,female,Wistar rats were used for the in vivo study.Of them,48 rats were used to establish models of spinal cord hemisection,and were subsequently equally and randomly assigned to model,genetically modified hNSC,and normal hNSC groups.The remaining 16 rats served as normal controls. METHODS:hNSCs were in vitro genetically modified by lentivirus to secrete both green fluorescence protein and neurotrophin-3.Neurotrophin-3 expression was measured by Western blot. Genetically modified hNSC or normal hNSC suspension(5×10~5) was injected into the rat spinal cord following T_(10) spinal cord hemisection.A total of 5μL Dulbecco's-modified Eagle's medium was infused into the rat spinal cord in the model group.Transgene expression and survival of transplanted hNSCs were determined by immunohistochemistry.Motor function was evaluated using the Basso,Beattie,and Bresnahan(BBB) scale. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:The following parameters were measured:expression of neurotrophin-3 produced by genetically modified hNSCs,transgene expression and survival of hNSCs in rats,motor function in rats. RESULTS:hNSCs were successfully genetically modified by lentivirus to stably express neurotrophin-3.The transplanted hNSCs primarily gathered at,or around,the injection site two weeks following transplantation,and gradually migrated towards the surrounding tissue. Transplanted hNSCs were observed 7.0-8.0 mm away from the injection site.In addition,hNSCs were observed 10 weeks after transplantation.At week 4,BBB locomotor scores were significantly greater in the genetically modified hNSC and normal hNSC groups,compared with the model group (P<0.05),and scores were significantly greater in the genetically modified hNSC group compared with the normal hNSC group(P<0.05). | 7 | Lapatinib plus capecitabine in treating HER2-positive advanced breast cancer:efficacy,safety,and biomarker results from Chinese patients显示文摘Overexpression of human epidermal growth factor receptor-2(HER2) in metastatic breast cancer(MBC) is associated with poor prognosis.This single-arm open-label trial(EGF109491;NCT00508274) was designed to confirm the efficacy and safety of lapatinib in combination with capecitabine in 52 heavily pretreated Chinese patients with HER2-positive MBC.The primary endpoint was clinical benefit rate(CBR).Secondary endpoints included progression-free survival(PFS),time to response(TTR),duration of response(DoR),central nervous system(CNS) as first site of relapse,and safety.The results showed that there were 23 patients with partial responses and 7 patients with stable disease,resulting in a CBR of 57.7%.The median PFS was 6.34 months(95% confidence interval,4.93-9.82 months).The median TTR and DoR were 4.07 months(range,0.03-14.78 months) and 6.93 months(range,1.45-9.72 months),respectively.Thirteen(25.0%) patients had new lesions as disease progression.Among them,2(3.8%) patients had CNS disease reported as the first relapse.The most common toxicities were palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia(59.6%),diarrhea(48.1%),rash(48.1%),hyperbilirubinemia(34.6%),and fatigue(30.8%).Exploratory analyses of oncogenic mutations of PIK3CA suggested that of 38 patients providing a tumor sample,baseline PIK3CA mutation status was not associated with CBR(P = 0.639) or PFS(P = 0.989).These data confirm that the lapatinib plus capecitabine combination is an effective and well-tolerated treatment option for Chinese women with heavily pretreated MBC,irrespective of PIK3CA status. | Bing-He Xu Ze-Fei Jiang Daniel Chua Zhi-Min Shao Rong-Cheng Luo Xiao-Jia Wang Dong-Geng Liu Winnie Yeo Shi-Ying Yu Beth Newstat Alka Preston Anne-Marie Martin Hai-Dong Chi Li wang | 2011 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2011,30,5: | 17 |

| 10 | Distribution,function and physiological role of melatonin in the lower gut显示文摘Melatonin is a hormone with endocrine, paracrine andautocrine actions. It is involved in the regulation of multiple functions, including the control of the gastroin-testinal (GI) system under physiological and pathophys-iological conditions. Since the gut contains at least 400times more melatonin than the pineal gland, a reviewof the functional importance of melatonin in the gutseems useful, especially in the context of recent clinicaltrials. Melatonin exerts its physiological effects throughspecific membrane receptors, named melatonin-1 re-ceptor (MT1), MT2 and MT3. These receptors can befound in the gut and their involvement in the regulationof GI motility, inflammation and pain has been reportedin numerous basic and clinical studies. Stable levels ofmelatonin in the lower gut that are unchanged follow-ing a pinealectomy suggest local synthesis and, further more, implicate physiological importance of endogenous melatonin in the GI tract. Presently, only a small number of human studies report possible beneficial and also possible harmful effects of melatonin in case reports and clinical trials. These human studies include patients with lower GI diseases, especially patients with irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer. In this review, we summarize the presently available information on melatonin effects in the lower gut and discuss available in vitro and in vivo data. | 13 | An Important Ornithischian Tracksite in the Early Jurassic of the Shenmu Region,Shaanxi,China显示文摘A large track site with multiple, well-preserved trackways of an Early Jurassic quadrupedal ornithischian dinosaur is the first report of Moyenisauripus-like trackways from Asia, herein named Shenmuichnus youngteilhardorum. The tracks occur in a clastic fluvial sequence in the Fuxian Formation in Shenmu County, Shaanxi Province, which is in the same general region as the discovery site of Sinoichnites,the first dinosaur track reported from China. Based on size and morphology, it is likely that Sinoichnites, which is now lost, also represents an ornithischian. The Shenmuichnus youngteilhardorum trackways show two modes of preservation: the first representing deeper tracks, with sediment rims, results in Deltapodus-like tracks, with indistinct pes digit traces and sub-circular manus traces, the second produces Moyenosauripus-like tracks, with clear tridactyl and pentadactyl digit traces in the pes and manus respectively. Thus the Shenmu trackways play a key role in resolving globally significant ichnotaxonomic problems surrounding the nomenclature of Sinoichnites, Moyenosauripus, Deltapodus and other named (Ravatichnus) and unnamed trackways from Asia, Africa and Europe. In addition they shed important light on the paleogeographical and paleoecological distribution of quadrupedal ornithischians in the Early Mesozoic. The track site has been the focus of a major excavation to transfer the trackways from their original remote location to the new Shenmu Museum, in Shenmu City. | 14 | Solid oxide fuel cell interconnect design optimization considering the thermal stresses显示文摘The mechanical failure of solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC) components may cause cracks with consequences such as gas leakage,structure instability and reduction of cell lifetime.A comprehensive 3D model of the thermal stresses of an anode-supported planar SOFC is presented in this work.The main objective of this paper is to get an interconnect optimized design by evaluating the thermal stresses of an anode-supported SOFC for different designs,which would be a new criterion for interconnect design.The model incorporates the momentum,mass,heat,ion and electron transport,as well as steady-state mechanics.Heat from methane steam reforming and water-gas shift reaction were considered in our model.The results examine the relationship between the interconnect structures and thermal stresses in SOFC at certain mechanical properties.A wider interconnect of the anode side lowers the stress obviously.The simulation results also indicate that thermal stress of coflow design is smaller than that of counterflow,corresponding to the temperature distribution.This study shows that it is possible to design interconnects for an optimum thermal stress performance of the cell. | Min Xu Tingshuai Li Ming Yang Martin Andersson | 2016 | Science Bulletin2016,61,17: | 10 |
| 15 | Chemoprotective effects of curcumin in esophageal epithelial cells exposed to bile acids显示文摘AIM:To investigate the ability of curcumin to counteract the impact of bile acids on gene expression of esophageal epithelial cells.METHODS:An esophageal epithelial cell line(HET1A)was treated with curcumin in the presence of deoxycholic acid.Cell proliferation and viability assays were used to establish an appropriate dose range for curcumin.The combined and individual effects of curcumin and bile acid on cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)and superoxide dismutase(SOD-1 and SOD-2)gene expression were also assessed.RESULTS:Curcumin in a dose range of 10-100μmol/L displayed minimal inhibition of HET-1A cell viability.Deoxycholic acid at a concentration of 200μmol/L caused a 2.4-fold increase in COX-2 gene expression compared to vehicle control.The increased expression of COX-2 induced by deoxycholic acid was partially reversed by the addition of curcumin,and curcumin reduced COX-2 expression 3.3-to 1.3-fold.HET-1A cells exposed to bile acid yielded reduced expression of SOD-1 and SOD-2 genes with the exception that high dose deoxycholic acid at 200μmol/L led to a 3-fold increase in SOD-2 expression.The addition of curcumin treatment partially reversed the bile acid-induced reduction in SOD-1 expression at all concentrations of curcumin tested.CONCLUSION:Curcumin reverses bile acid suppression of gene expression of SOD-1.Curcumin is also able to inhibit bile acid induction of COX-2 gene expression. | Matthew R Bower Harini S Aiyer Robert CG Martin Yan Li | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,33: | 10 |

| 20 | Seasonal Rainfall Forecasts for the Yangtze River Basin of China in Summer 2019 from an Improved Climate Service显示文摘Rainfall forecasts for the summer monsoon season in the Yangtze River basin(YRB) allow decision-makers to plan for possible flooding, which can affect the lives and livelihoods of millions of people. A trial climate service was developed in 2016, producing a prototype seasonal forecast product for use by stakeholders in the region, based on rainfall forecasts directly from a dynamical model. Here, we describe an improved service based on a simple statistical downscaling approach. Through using dynamical forecast of an East Asian summer monsoon(EASM) index, seasonal mean rainfall for the upper and middle/lower reaches of YRB can be forecast separately by use of the statistical downscaling, with significant skills for lead times of up to at least three months. The skill in different sub-basin regions of YRB varies with the target season. The rainfall forecast skill in the middle/lower reaches of YRB is significant in May–June–July(MJJ), and the forecast skill for rainfall in the upper reaches of YRB is significant in June–July–August(JJA). The mean rainfall for the basin as a whole can be skillfully forecast in both MJJ and JJA. The forecasts issued in 2019 gave good guidance for the enhanced rainfall in the MJJ period and the near-average conditions in JJA.
