2Additive manufacturing of composite materials and functionally graded structures using selective heat melting technique显示文摘The feasibility of using selective heat melting(SHM) to fabricate composite materials and functionally graded structures was investigated. We report, for the first time, the successful 3 D printing of copper(Cu)-polyethylene(PE) composite,iron(Fe)-polyethylene(PE) composite and functionally graded CuO foams using the SHM technique. It was found that a low feed rate, high airflow rate and high airflow temperature were required for efficient delivery of heat from the emitted hot air to the powder bed,so that the PE binder particles can melt and form dense composites with smooth surfaces. The best mechanical properties were exhibited by composites with 80 vol.% PE,as lower PE concentrations led to deficient binding of the metal particles, while higher PE concentrations meant that very few metal particles were available to strengthen the composite. The strength exhibited by Cu-PE composites was comparable to engineering plastics such as polycarbonate, with the added advantage of being electrically conductive. The average conductivity of the samples,0.152±0.28 S/m,was on par with physically crosslinked graphene assemblies.By subjecting a Cu-PE composite, with Cu concentration graded from 10 vol.% to 30 vol.%,to a high temperature debinding and sintering treatment in air,CuO foam with graded porosity can be obtained. This CuO foam was observed to fail in a layer-by-layer manner under mechanical compression, which is a characteristic of functionally graded materials. Our study shows that, compared to existing 3 D printing techniques,SHM can be cheaper, have wider material compatibility, occupy a smaller footprint and potentially induce less residual stresses in the fabricated parts. Therefore,it could be a valuable complement to current additive manufacturing techniques for fabricating mechanically strong composite materials and functionally graded structures.Kalaimani Markandan Ruijing Lim Pawan Kumar Kanaujia Ian Seetoh Muhammad Raziq bin Mohd Rosdi Zhi Huey Tey Jun Seng Goh Yee Cheong Lam Changquan Lai 2020Journal of Materials Science & Technology2020,47,12:1

4Christian Missions and Navalar Movement in Sri Lanka: A Re-reading显示文摘This paper examines the development of the Navalar Movement and how the Christian missionaries and their works influenced and inspired Arumuga Navalar to be known widely as a leader of the native Saiva-Tamil people in the 19th century. For that, this study traces Arumuga Navalar’s interaction with foreign missionaries and the native-Tamil Christians, especially the opportunities in which he was made to form and lead forward his non-institutionalized movement:Saiva-Tamil Movement in order to reawaken Saivism and also to revive Tamil language and culture in Sri Lanka and South India.Drawing extensively from literature and the Navalar’s writings, the research critically analyzes the inculturation of Navalar and the activities of movement by applying the socio-cultural historical perspective to his journey of life in the hybrid ritualism. This approach provides the focus for the discussion with illustrative examples from the literature and reinterprets the rise and mission of Navalar and how the Movement grew out of the colonial encounter and how it evolved through the years.Further this study will be beneficial to researchers and scholars of Saivism and Christianity religious studies, social and cultural history of Sri Lanka.Markandan Rubavathanan 2021Cultural and Religious Studies2021,9,5:0
5Experimental and numerical analysis on suitability of S-Glass-Carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites for submarine hull显示文摘Suitability of S-Glass/carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite for submarine hull subjected to hydrostatic pressure has been investigated in the present study.Metallic materials have raised concerns owing to their decomposition due to low resistance towards salinity and hence polymer composites have been explored to showcase their mechanical stability to withstand transverse and impact loads. To this end,the mechanical properties of S-Glass/carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite were experimentally investigated and higher specific strength and stiffness of the composite in comparison to many metallic materials used for submarine hull were reported. The obtained experimental values were used for the static and dynamic crash analysis of the bow, stern and foil through Finite Element Analysis(FEA);where depth of travel was varied from sea surface level of 0-7000 m.Submarine assembly was later developed with the optimum shape and thickness of each part.We also report the nonlinear crash analysis upon impact at velocity ranging from 3 to 21 m/s.Besides,kinetic energy, acceleration peak and internal energy in struck submarine revealed that travel depth 1750 m and 3500 m is recommendable, more particularly, crash safety factor of the submarine is found to be within limit when submarine encounters crash at 1750 m.Elango Natarajan Lídio Inacio Freitas M.S.Santhosh Kalaimani Markandan Ammar Abdulaziz Majeed Al-Talib C.S.Hassan 2023Defence Technology(防务技术)2023,19,1:0
