11Anti-arthritic effect of Distemonanthus benthamianus extracts against rheumatoid arthritis in rats显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the anti-arthritic effect of aqueous and methanolic extracts of Distemonanthus benthamianus. Methods:Monoarthritis was induced by an injection of 0.3 mL zymosan A(0.9%NaCl,v/v)in the right posterior knee joints of rats. Then, joint diameter and pain threshold were determined.Polyarthritis was induced by an intracaudal injection of complete Freund’s adjuvant and rats were treated from day 14 post 1st complete Freund’s adjuvant injection until 28 day.The clinical, hematological, biochemical and oxidative stress parameters were evaluated. In addition, histological analysis of the knee joint was perfomed in both tests. Results:The aqueous and methanolic extracts of Distemonanthus benthamianus at a dose of 500 mg/kg ameliorated zymosan A-induced monoarthritis,as evidenced by reduced joint diameter, increased pain threshold,as well as improved joint architecture. In addition, both extracts of Distemonanthus benthamianus markedly increased body weight and pain threshold, while reducing paw edema in polyarthritic rats. They also led to a marked decrease in platelets and white blood cells(P<0.05),as well as a significant increase in red blood cells, hemoglobin and hematocrit(P<0.05).The aqueous and methanolic extracts of Distemonanthus benthamianus significantly reduced alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase activities, while increasing serum protein levels(P<0.05)with no significant variation in creatinine level. Moreover, both extracts increased catalase and glutathione activities(P<0.05),and inhibited malondialdehyde and nitric oxide production(P<0.01 and P<0.001)in the liver and kidneys.Histological analysis of the joints showed that both extracts triggered tissue reparation. Conclusions:Distemonanthus benthamianus could be used as a potential candidate in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.William Yousseu Nana Ernest Allah Hoki Kwenteh Gilbert Ateufack Eric Gonzal Tsafack Stephanie FloreDjuichou Nguemnang Zenab Linda Fagni Njoya Albert Donatien Atsamo Vanessa Mba Matah Marthe CarineFlore Adjouzem Yacine Karelle Madjo Kouam Elvira Ngoufack Azanze Marius Mbiantcha 2022Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2022,12,10:0
12NO-cGMP-K channel-dependent anti-nociceptive activities of methanol stem bark extract of Piptadeniastrum africanum(Mimosaceae) on rats显示文摘Objective: To explore anti-hyperalgesic properties of methanol extract of Piptadeniastrum africanum stem bark(PAME) and it possible action mechanism. Methods: PAME was tested on carrageenan ?induced hyperalgesia using plantar test(thermal) and analgesymeter(mechanical) in rats, on prostaglandin E_2(PGE_2) induced mechanical hyperalgesia and vincristine induced neuropathic pain in rat, both with analgesymeter. Modulators of NO/cG MP/K^+ channel pathway and endogenous opioids receptor antagonists and/or agonists were used to determine the possible action mechanism of PAME. Results: PAME significantly decreased carrageenan induced thermal and mechanical hyperalgesia, as well as PGE_2 induced mechanical hyperalgesia. PAME significantly protected the animals against the installation of neuropathic pain. Anti-nociception activity produced by PAME was significantly blocked in animals pre?treated with all the antagonists(naloxone, NW-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester(L-NAME), methylene blue and glibenclamide). Conclusions: Results of this study reveal that, PAME administrate orally, can induce anti-hyperalgesic action against installation of inflammatory pain as well as neuropathic pain. The mechanism underlying PAME antihyperalgesic effect could probably be associated with an activation of opioid receptors and NO/cG MP/K^+ channel pathway.Mbiantcha Marius Almas Jabeen Ateufack Gilbert Shabana U.Simjee Bomba Tatsinkou Francis Desire Nida Dastagir 2018Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2018,8,3:0
13Mapping tree species distribution in support of China's integrated tree-livestock-crop system显示文摘The primary challenge of the contemporary world is to meet accelerating requirements for food.Limited land, competition between crop and livestock farming and climate change are major challenges.Agroforestry offer a form of sustainable agriculture through the direct provision of food by raising farmers’incomes and through various ecosystem services. The first essential step in adopting agroforestry is the selection of appropriate tree species that fit local climates. In this paper,we mapped 20 fodder trees and important crops in China using the multi-model ensemble and Ecocrop modelling approach.Relying on the intersectional concept of set theory, the fuzzy logic technique was applied to identify regions where candidate trees could be grown with appropriate crops and livestock. The resulting models provide important insights into the climatic suitability of trees and crops and offer knowledge critical to the proper integration of trees with crops and livestock at specific locations. The results offer support for developing appropriate strategies regarding potential land-use within agroforestry systems in order to maximize ecosystem services and the benefits of sustainable agriculture.Model outputs could easily convert into conventional maps with clearly defined boundaries for site-specific planning for tree-crop-livestock integration. The next step for actualizing an integrated system is to investigate specifically what these different species may contribute to the existing farming systems, quantify the benefits and estimate any possible tradeoffs.Sailesh Ranjitkar Dengpan Bu Nani Maiya Sujakhu Marius Gilbert Timothy PRobinson Roeland Kindt Jianchu Xu 2021Circular Agricultural Systems2021,1,1:0
14Modelling changing population distributions:an example of the Kenyan Coast,1979–2009显示文摘Large-scale gridded population datasets are usually produced for the year of input census data using a top-down approach and projected backward and forward in time using national growth rates.Such temporal projections do not include any subnational variation in population distribution trends and ignore changes in geographical covariates such as urban land cover changes.Improved predictions of population distribution changes over time require the use of a limited number of covariates that are time-invariant or temporally explicit. Here we make use of recently released multi-temporal high-resolution global settlement layers, historical census data and latest developments in population distribution modelling methods to reconstruct population distribution changes over 30 years across the Kenyan Coast. We explore the methodological challenges associated with the production of gridded population distribution time-series in data-scarce countries and show that trade-offs have to be found between spatial and temporal resolutions when selecting the best modelling approach.Strategies used to fill data gaps may vary according to the local context and the objective of the study. This work will hopefully serve as a benchmark for future developments of population distribution time-series that are increasingly required for population-at-risk estimations and spatial modelling in various fields.Catherine Linard Caroline W.Kabaria Marius Gilbert Andrew J.Tatem Andrea E.Gaughan Forrest R.Stevens Alessandro Sorichetta Abdisalan M.Noor Robert W.Snow 2017International Journal of Digital Earth2017,10,10:0
