| 1 | Adsorption of Mn^(2+) from aqueous solution using Fe and Mn oxide-coated sand显示文摘The adsorption of Mn2+ onto immobilized Mn-oxide and Fe-oxide adsorbent such as manganese oxide-coated sand 1 (MOCS1), manganese oxide-coated sand2 (MOCS2), iron oxide-coated sand2 (IOCS2), and manganese and iron oxide-coated sand (MIOCS)was investigated. The effects of pH (5.5 to 8.0) and temperature (25 to45°C) on the equilibrium capacitywere examined. Equilibrium studies showed that there is a good fitwith both Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm,which indicates surface heterogeneity and monolayer adsorption of the adsorbents. Kineticdata showed high correlationwith the pseudo second-order model,which signifies a chemisorption-controlled mechanism. The activation energies, activation parameters (ΔG*,ΔH*,ΔS*), and thermodynamic parameters (ΔG0 , ΔH0 , ΔS0 ) confirmed that adsorptionwith MIOCSwas endothermic and more spontaneous at higher temperaturewhile an opposite trendwas observed for the other adsorbents. | 2 | Is autoimmune hepatitis a frequent finding among HCV patients with intense interface hepatitis?显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the overlap of autoimmune hepatitis in hepatitis C virus(HCV)-infected patients with intense interface hepatitis.METHODS:Among 1759 patients with hepatitis C submitted to liver biopsy,92(5.2%) presented intense interface hepatitis.These patients were evaluated regarding the presence of antinuclear antibody(ANA),anti-smooth muscle antibody(SMA) and anti-liver/kidney microsomal antibody(LKM-1),levels of γ-globulin and histological findings related to autoimmune hepatitis(plasma cell infiltrate and presence of rosettes).RESULTS:Among patients with hepatitis C and intense interface hepatitis there was a low prevalence of autoantibodies(ANA=12%,SMA=5%,LKM-1=0%) and the median γ-globulin level was within the normal range.Typical histological findings of autoimmune disease were observed in only two cases(2%).After applying the score for diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis,only one patient was classified with a definitive diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis.Since overlap with autoimmune hepatitis was not the explanation for the intense necroinflammatory activity in patients with chronic hepatitis C we sought to identify the variables associated with this finding.The presence of intense interface hepatitis was associated with more advanced age,both at the time of infection and at the time of the biopsy,and higher prevalence of blood transfusion and alcohol abuse.CONCLUSION:Although possible,overlap with autoimmune hepatitis is a very rare association in HCV-infected patients with intense interface hepatitis,an unusual presentation which seems to be related to other host variables. | Rosilene G Badiani Vitória Becker Renata M Perez Carla AL Matos Lara B Lemos Valéria P Lanzoni Luis Eduardo C Andrade Alessandra Dellavance Antonio Eduardo B Silva Maria Lucia G Ferraz | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010，16，29： | 7 |
| 3 | Presacral venous bleeding during mobilization in rectal cancer显示文摘AIM To analyze the anatomy of sacral venous plexus flow, the causes of injuries and the methods for controlling presacral hemorrhage during surgery for rectal cancer.METHODS A review of the databases MEDLINE? and Embase? was conducted, and relevant scientific articles published between January 1960 and June 2016 were examined. The anatomy of the sacrum and its venous plexus, as well as the factors that influence bleeding, the causes of this complication, and its surgical management were defined.RESULTS This is a review of 58 published articles on presacral venous plexus injury during the mobilization of the rectum and on techniques used to treat presacral venous bleeding. Due to the lack of cases published in the literature, there is no consensus on which is the best technique to use if there is presacral bleeding during mobilization in surgery for rectal cancer. | 4 | Altered blood-brain barrier permeability in rats with prehepatic portal hypertension turns to normal when portal pressure is lowered显示文摘AIM: To study the blood-brain barrier integrity in prehe-patic portal hypertensive rats induced by partial portal vein ligation, at 14 and 40 d after ligation when portal pressure is spontaneously normalized. METHODS: Adult male Wistar rats were divided into four groups: GroupⅠ: Sham14d, sham operated; GroupⅡ: PH14d, portal vein stenosis; (both groups were used 14 days after surgery); GroupⅢ: Sham40d, Sham operated and GroupⅣ: PH40d Portal vein stenosis (GroupsⅡandⅣused 40 d after surgery). Plasma ammonia, plasma and cerebrospinal fluid protein and liver enzymes concentrations were determined. Trypan and Evans blue dyes, systemically injected, were investigated in hippocampus to study blood-brain barrier integrity. Portal pressure was periodically recorded. RESULTS: Forty days after stricture, portal pressure was normalized, plasma ammonia was moderately high, and both dyes were absent in central nervous system parenchyma. All other parameters were reestablished. When portal pressure was normalized and ammonia level was lowered, but not normal, the altered integrity of blood-brain barrier becomes reestablished.
