| 1 | Colonic duplication in an adult mimicking a tumor of pancreas显示文摘Duplications of the alimentary tract are uncommon congenital malformations that can present diagnostic difficulties. We report a rare case of a cystic colonic duplication in a female adult. Preoperative investigations were suggestive of pancreatic tumor. The diagnosis was established based on the histopathological examination of the resected specimen. | 2 | Simulation Tools for a Fiber-Optic Based Structural Health Monitoring System显示文摘Probability of detection(POD)graphics allow for a change from qualitative to quantitative assessment for every damage detection system,and as such it is a main request for conventional non-destructive testing(NDT)techniques.Its availability can greatly help towards the industrialization of the corresponding Structural health monitoring(SHM)system.But having in mind that for SHM systems the sensors are at fixed positions,and the location of a potential damage would change its detectability.Consequently robust simulation tools are required to obtain the model assisted probability of detection(MAPOD)which is needed to validate the SHM system.This tool may also help for the optimization of the sensor distribution,and finally will allow a probabilistic risk management.INDEUS,simulation of ultrasonic waves SHM system,was a main milestone in this direction.This article deals with the simulation tools for a strain based SHM system,using fiber optic sensors(FOS).FOS are essentially strain/temperature sensors,either with multi-point or with distributed sensing.The simulation tool includes the finite element model(FEM)for the original and damaged structure,and algorithms to compare the strain data at the pre-established sensors locations,and from this comparison to extract information about damage occurrence and location.The study has been applied to the structure of an all-composite unmanned aircraft vehicle(UAV)now under construction,designed at Universidad Politecnica de Madrid for the inspection of electrical utilities networks.Distributed sensing optical fibers were internally bonded at the fuselage and wing.Routine inspection is planned to be done with the aircraft at the test bench by imposing known loads.From the acquired strain data,damage occurrence may be calculated as slight deviations from the baselines.This is a fast inspection procedure without requiring trained specialists,and it would allow for detection of hidden damages.Simulation indicates that stringer partial debondings are detected before they become critical,while small delaminations as those produced by barely visible impact damages would require a prohibited number of sensing lines.These simulation tools may easily be applied to any other complex structure,just by changing the FEM models.From these results it is shown how a fiber optic based SHM system may be used as a reliable damage detection procedure. | Alfredo Güemes Antonio Fernandez-Lopez Jaime García-Ramírez Maria Eugenia Reyes-Perez Flor Criado Zurita | 2018 | Transactions of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics2018，35，2： | 2 |
| 3 | Trypanosoma rangeli:growth in mammalian cells in vitro and action of a repositioned drug(17-AAG)and a natural extract(Artemisia sp.essential oil)显示文摘Trypanosoma rangeli and T.cruzi are both parasitic unicellular species that infect humans.Unlike T.cruzi,the causative agent of Chagas disease,T.rangeli is an infective and non-pathogenic parasite for humans,but pathogenic for vectors from the Rhodnius genus.Because both species can coexist in different hosts and overlap their infective cycles but very little is known about the infection of T.rangeli in mammalian cells,we decided to characterize both the development of this parasite in cell culture and the effect of therapeutic agents with potential trypanocidal action on it.We found that T.rangeli exhibits a cycle of infection in Vero cells similar to that for T.cruzi and that the repurposed drug,17-AAG,and the natural extract Artemisia sp.essential oil produce a toxic effect on epimastigotes showing a trypanocidal action from the fifth day of culture.Both treatments also affected the infection of trypomastigotes and reduced the capacity of replication of amastigotes of T.rangeli.Since T.cruzi/T.rangeli coinfection cases have been reported,the finding of drugs with potential activity against both species could be significant in the future.Furthermore,studies of susceptibility of both species to drugs could also help to know the different mechanisms of pathogenicity in humans displayed by T.cruzi that are absent in T.rangeli. | Ana Laura CIMADOR Emeli Luciana GALANTE Lucila Ibel MUNOZ Patricia Silvia ROMANO Antonella Denisse LOSINNO Maria Cristina VANRELL | 2019 | BIOCELL2019，43，1： | 1 |
| 4 | Apoptosis induced by a low-carbohydrate and high-protein diet in rat livers显示文摘AIM: To determine whether high-protein, high-fat, and low-carbohydrate diets can cause lesions in rat livers.METHODS: We randomly divided 20 female Wistar rats into a control diet group and an experimental diet group. Animals in the control group received an AIN-93 M diet, and animals in the experimental group received an Atkins-based diet(59.46% protein, 31.77% fat, and 8.77% carbohydrate). After 8 wk, the rats were anesthetized and exsanguinated for transaminases analysis, and their livers were removed for flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and light microscopy studies. We expressed the data as mean ± standard deviation(sd) assuming unpaired and parametric data; we analyzed differences using the student's t-test. statistical significance was set at P < 0.05.RESULTS: We found that plasma alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. According to flow cytometry, the percentages of nonviable cells were 11.67% ± 1.12% for early apoptosis, 12.07% ± 1.11% for late apoptosis, and 7.11% ± 0.44% for non-apoptotic death in the experimental diet group and 3.73% ± 0.50% for early apoptosis, 5.67% ± 0.72% for late apoptosis, and 3.82% ± 0.28% for non-apoptotic death in the control diet group. The mean percentage of early apoptosis was higher in the experimental diet group than in the control diet group. Immunohistochemistry for autophagy was negative in both groups. sinusoidal dilation around the central vein and small hepatocytes was only observed in the experimental diet group, and fibrosis was not identified by hematoxylin-eosin or Trichrome Masson staining in either group.CONCLUSION: Eight weeks of an experimental diet resulted in cellular and histopathological lesions in rat livers. | 14 | Autoimmune gastritis presenting as iron deficiency anemia in childhood显示文摘AIM: To characterize clinical, laboratorial, and histological profile of pediatric autoimmune gastritis in the setting of unexplained iron deficiency anemia investigation.METHODS: A descriptive, observational study including pediatric patients with a diagnosis of autoimmune gastritis(positive parietal cell antibody and gastric corpus atrophy) established in a 6 year period(2006-2011) in the setting of refractory iron deficiency anemia(refractoriness to oral iron therapy for at least 6 mo and requirement for intravenous iron therapy) investigation, after exclusion of other potentially contributing causes of anemia. Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection and anti-secretory therapy were also excluded. Data were retrospectively collected from clinical files, including: demographic data(age, gender, and ethnic background), past medical history, gastrointestinal symptoms, familial history, laboratorial evaluation(Hb, serum ferritin, serum gastrin, pepsinogen Ⅰ/ pepsinogen Ⅱ, B12 vitamin, intrinsic factor autoantibodies, thyroid autoantibodies, and anti-transglutaminase antibodies), and endoscopic and histological findings(HE, Periodic Acid-Schiff/Alcian blue, gastrin, chromogranin A and immunochemistry analysis for CD3, CD20 and CD68). Descriptive statistical analysis was performed(mean, median, and standard deviation).RESULTS: We report a case-series concerning 3 girls and 2 boys with a mean age of 13.6 ± 2.8 years(3 Caucasian and 2 African). One girl had type Ⅰ diabetes. Familial history was positive in 4/5 cases, respectively for autoimmune thyroiditis(2/5), sarcoidosis(1/5) and multiple myeloma(1/5). Laboratorial evaluation on admission included: Hb: 9.5 ± 0.7 g/d L; serum ferritin: 4.0 ± 0.9 ng/m L; serum gastrin: 393 ± 286 pg/m L; low pepsinogen Ⅰ/ pepsinogen Ⅱ ratio in 1/5 patients; normal vitamin B12 levels(analyzed in 3 patients). Endoscopy findings included: duodenal nodularity(2/5) and gastric fold softening(2/5), and histological evaluation showed corpus atrophic gastritis with lymphocytic infiltration(5/5), patchy oxyntic gland mononuclear cell infiltration(5/5), intestinal and/or pseudo-pyloric metaplasia in corpus mucosa(4/5), and enterochromaffin cell hyperplasia(4/5). Immunochemistry for gastrin on corpus biopsies was negative in all cases. Duodenal histology was normal. All biopsies were negative for H. pylori(Giemsa staining and cultural examination). | 17 | Predicting the aquatic risk of realistic pesticide mixtures to species assemblages in Portuguese river basins显示文摘Although pesticide regulatory tools are mainly based on individual substances, aquatic ecosystems are usually exposed to multiple pesticides from their use on the variety of crops within the catchment of a river. This study estimated the impact of measured pesticide mixtures in surface waters from 2002 and 2008 within three important Portuguese river basins(‘Mondego', ‘Sado' and ‘Tejo') on primary producers, arthropods and fish by toxic pressure calculation. Species sensitivity distributions(SSDs), in combination with mixture toxicity models, were applied. Considering the differences in the responses of the taxonomic groups as well as in the pesticide exposures that these organisms experience, variable acute multi-substance potentially affected fractions(ms PAFs) were obtained. The median msP AF for primary producers and arthropods in surface waters of all river basins exceeded 5%, the cut-off value used in the prospective SSD approach for deriving individual environmental quality standards. A ranking procedure identified various photosystem II inhibiting herbicides, with oxadiazon having the relatively largest toxic effects on primary producers, while the organophosphorus insecticides, chlorfenvinphos and chlorpyrifos, and the organochloride endosulfan had the largest effects on arthropods and fish, respectively.
