| 2 | Effects of butternut squash extract on dentate gyrus cell proliferation and spatial learning in male adult rats显示文摘Previous studies reported that some plants,including butternut squash,exert positive effects on the brain.However,few studies have examined the effects of butternut squash on learning,memory,and neurogenesis.This study studied the effects of butternut squash extract on spatial learning and cell proliferation in the dentate gyrus of healthy male rats.Thirty-five male Wistar rats were intrap-eritoneally injected with 0,50,100,200 and 400 mg/kg butternut squash extract once daily for 2 months.After the last administration,rat's spatial memory was studied using the Morris water maze.Finally,rats were sacrificed and hippocampal sections were prepared for light microscopy and bromodeoxyuridine immunohistochemistry studies.The results revealed that escape latency and swim distance decreased in all treatment groups compared with the control rats,and that the number of bromodeoxyuridine-positive cells in the dentate gyrus was significantly increased in the treatment groups compared with the controls.These findings suggest that butternut squash extract improves the learning and memory abilities of male rats,and increases the proliferation of dentate gyrus cells. | Mohsen Marzban Sara Soleimani Asl Hassan Fallah Huseini Mahdi Tondar Samira Choopani Mehdi Mehdizadeh | 2011 | Neural Regeneration Research2011，6，24： | 1 |

| 4 | Larvicidal activity of essential oil and methanol extract of Nepeta menthoides against malaria vector Anopheles stephensi显示文摘Objective:To investigate the larvicidai activity of essential oil and methanol extract of the Nepeta menthoides(N.menthoides) against main malaria vector,Anopheles stephensi(An. stephensi).Methods:The essential oil of planl was obtained by Clevenger type apparatus and the methanol extract was supplied with Percolation method,larvicidai activity was tested by WHO method.Twenty five fourth-instar larvae of An.stephensi were used in the larvicidai assay and four replicates were tested for each concentration.Five different concentrations of the oil and extract were tested for calculation of LC50 and LC50 values.Results:The LC50 and LC90 values were determined by probit analysis.IC50 was 69.5 and 234.3 ppm and LC50 was 175.5 and 419.9 ppm for the extract and essential oil respectively.Conclusions:According to the results of this study methanolic extract of plant exhibited more larvicidai activity than essential oil.This could be useful for investigation of new natural larvicidai compounds. | Khanavi Mahnaz Fallah Alireza Vatandoost Hassan Sedaghat Mahdi Abai Mohammad Reza Hadjiakhoondi Abbas | 2012 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012，5，12： | 0 |
