Emerging role of deep learning-based artificial intelligence in tumor pathology显示文摘The development of digital pathology and progression of state-of-the-art algorithms for computer vision have led to increasing interest in the use of artificial intelligence(AI),especially deep learning(DL)-based AI,in tumor pathology. The DL-based algorithms have been developed to conduct all kinds of work involved in tumor pathology, including tumor diagnosis, subtyping, grading, staging, and prognostic prediction,as well as the identification of pathological features, biomarkers and genetic changes. The applications of AI in pathology not only contribute to improve diagnostic accuracy and objectivity but also reduce the workload of pathologists and subsequently enable them to spend additional time on high-level decision-making tasks. In addition,AI is useful for pathologists to meet the requirements of precision oncology. However, there are still some challenges relating to the implementation of AI,including the issues of algorithm validation and interpretability, computing systems, the unbelieving attitude of pathologists, clinicians and patients,as well as regulators and reimbursements.Herein,we present an overview on how AI-based approaches could be integrated into the workflow of pathologists and discuss the challenges and perspectives of the implementation of AI in tumor pathology. | Yahui Jiang Meng Yang Shuhao Wang Xiangchun Li Yan Sun | 2020 | Cancer Communications2020,40,4: | 15
BSA-seq-based identification of a major additive plant height QTL with an effect equivalent to that of Semi-dwarf 1 in a large rice F_(2) population显示文摘Bulked-segregant analysis is a time-and cost-saving strategy for identifying major quantitative trait loci(QTL) in a mapping population. Bulked-segregant analysis combined with whole-genome sequencing(BSA-seq) was performed to rapidly identify QTL for heading date, plant height, and panicle length in a large F_(2) population derived from two landraces: Chuan 7(C7) and Haoboka(HBK). Twenty plants with extremely low or high phenotypic values for the target traits were selected from an F_(2) population of 940 plants to construct low-and high-value bulks. Three pairs of bulks for the three traits were constructed, resulting in six DNA pools. BSA-seq revealed nine QTL: four for heading date, three for plant height, and two for panicle length. These QTL were validated in a random F_(2) population or BC_(4)F_(2) populations. The major novel plant height QTL, qPH8, acting additively with an effect equivalent to that of semi-dwarf 1(sd1), is potentially valuable for hybrid rice breeding. qPH8 controls mainly the elongation of basal internodes. The C7 allele of qPH8 reduces plant height and increases lodging resistance without yield penalty, suggesting a potential role for qPH8 in improving rice plant architecture. | Bo Zhang Feixiang Qi Gang Hu Yikai Yang Li Zhang Jianghu Meng Zhongmin Han Xiangchun Zhou Haiyang Liu Mohammed Ayaad Yongzhong Xing | 2021 | The Crop Journal2021,9,6: | 3
Grafting of thermoresponsive polymer from the surfaceof functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes via atom transfer radical polymerization显示文摘Multiwalled carbon nanotubes were oxidized with concentrated HNO3 and H2SO4 to introduce carbox-ylic groups onto carbon nanotubes surfaces. The oxidized carbon nanotubes were reacted subse-quently with thionyl chloride and 2-Hydroxylethyl-2′-bromoisobutyrate, producing MWNT-based macroinitiators, MWNT-Br, for the atom transfer radical polymerization of (N-isopropylacrylamide). FTIR, XPS, 1H NMR, Raman and TGA were used to characterize the resulting products and to determine the content of the water-soluble poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) chains in the product. The MWNTs grafted with PNIPAM chains have good solubility in distilled water; THF and CHCl3. TEM images of the samples provide direct evidence for the formation of a nanostructure that MWNTs coated with polymer layer. The produced MWNT-g-PNIPAM has a PNIPAM shell, which is very sensitive to the change of temperature. This method would open a door for the fabrication of novel functional carbon nanotube-based nano-materials or nanodevices with designable structure and tailor-made properties. | XU GuoYong XIA Ru WANG Hu MENG XiangChun ZHU QingRen | 2008 | Chinese Science Bulletin2008,53,15: | 2

Translation and Ideology in the Integration of National Literature into World Literature: A Dialogue with Professor Peter Hajdu显示文摘In their dialogue, Peter Hajdu and Meng Xiangchun focus on the integration of national literature into world literature and the roles of translation and ideology in the process. Peter Hajdu's major ideas include: 1) the selection of a foreign piece of literature mostly depends on the target culture's demands, of which the reception of Pet?fi Sándor's 'Liberty and Love' is a good example; 2) it is usual that smaller literary communities translate from another smaller community's literature what already had a success in a major market. Peripheries do not communicate directly, but via a center, and this practice also reinforces the privileged position of the center; 3) the hermeneutic circle may help us understand domestication and foreignization in translation. We understand something strange though the familiar and complete strangeness cannot be understood. Therefore it is theoretically possible that making something more familiar helps one understand its otherness; 4) Readers of translated contemporary Chinese literature tend to be particularly interested in the representation of social reality and political/ideological issues; and 5) Mo Yan's works travel well because they also make use of various Western literary traditions. Meng Xiangchun puts forward a theory that he tentatively terms 'the theory of translation dynamics' or 'translation interactology' and it will focus on how the numerous factors and considerations in translation act on one another within the target/source language and across languages. Within the framework of translation dynamics, he offers a descriptive parallel comparative 7W approach to integrated translation studies by juxtaposing the 7Ws of the original and target texts and identifying/decoding the nexus among these Ws vertically(of both the original text and the target text) and horizontally(within the same text), the 7Ws referring to 'in what context for what who says what to whom in what way with what effect and feedback'. | Xiangchun Meng Peter Hajdu | 2018 | Language and Semiotic Studies2018,4,3: | 1
A Statistical Approach to Annotation in the English Translation of Chinese Classics:A Case Study of the Four English Versions of Fushengliuji显示文摘Annotation in translation is of great value in communicating'the local'to the global readership.Based on our content and function-centered statistics on the 483 notes of the four English versions of Shen Fu’s autobiographical work Fushengliuji,we find that 1)in terms of content, cultural, geographic, historical, and literary references are the most important categories of annotation in the English translation of this work;annotations in the four versions are employed to serve 6 major functions/purposes:to further inform,to facilitate understanding,to avoid misunderstanding,to interpret personally,to cite or allude, and to correct mistakes;2)no correlation can be established between the use of annotation and the reception of the work per se,but it can reflect the translator’s poise and strategy which ultimately affect the reception of the work;and 3)Lin’s version used relatively few notes and relied heavily on paraphrasing,a practice which leads to better accessibility of his translation and at the same time to the possible sacrifice of some culturally and socially significant elements of the original.Black’s translation used notes sparingly, and she was so creative as to rearrange and edit the original text, revealing her approach of radical'reader-centeredness'.Pratt and Chiang’s version and Sanders’version used a large number of notes carrying a sinological mission, revealing their respect for the original and their decision to inform and inspire their readers. We argue that cultural translation, whether aided by annotation or not,is predominantly an art about'glocalism'and that both author-centeredness and reader-centeredness can be reconciled, since ultimately they serve the same'communicative'purpose. | Xiangde Meng Xiangchun Meng | 2020 | Language and Semiotic Studies2020,6,2: | 0
CATALYST DESIGN FOR METHANE DEHYDROGENATION AND BENZENE HYDROGENATION显示文摘Highly active and stable nickel catalyst for dehydrogenation of methane and hydrogenation of benzene is prepared from a precursor with hydrotalcite-like anionic clam structure by coprecipitation. The nickel particles have a narrow size distribution in several nanometers, and have a strong interaction with other components such as Al2O3. This catalyst is highly sensitive to further modification by doping and to reaction condition. On a modified catalyst, benzene hydrogenation to cyclohexane proceeds to complete at 373 K. While on another catalyst, different structured nanocarbons are obtained at moderate temperatures. It is found that the thioresistance of the nickel catalyst in hydrogenation can be improved by doping. | Li Yongdan, Hou Chaopeng, Qin Yuxiang, Meng Xiangchun, Chen Jiuling and Chang Liu (Department of Catalysis Science and Technology School of Chemical Engineering, Tianjin University Tianjin 300072) | 2000 | 化工学报2000,51,S1: | 0
Improved diagnosis of thyroid cancer aided with deep learning applied to sonographic text reports:a retrospective,multi-cohort,diagnostic study显示文摘Objective:Large volume radiological text data have been accumulated since the incorporation of electronic health record(EHR)systems in clinical practice. We aimed to determine whether deep natural language processing algorithms could aid radiologists in improving thyroid cancer diagnosis. Methods:Sonographic EHR data were obtained from the EHR database.Pathological reports were used as the gold standard for diagnosing thyroid cancer. We developed thyroid cancer diagnosis based on natural language processing(THCaDxNLP)to interpret unstructured sonographic text reports for thyroid cancer diagnosis. We used the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUROC)as the primary metric to measure the performance of the THCaDxNLP.We compared the performance of thyroid ultrasound radiologists aided with THCaDxNLP vs.those without THCaDxNLP using 5 independent test sets. Results:We obtained a total number of 788,129 sonographic radiological reports. The number of thyroid sonographic data points was 132,277,18,400 of which were thyroid cancer patients.Among the 5 test sets, the numbers of patients per set were 439,186,82,343,and 171.THCaDxNLP achieved high performance in identifying thyroid cancer patients(the AUROC ranged from 0.857–0.932).Thyroid ultrasound radiologists aided with THCaDxNLP achieved significantly higher performances than those without THCaDxNLP in terms of accuracy(93.8%vs.87.2%;one-sided t-test,adjusted P=0.003),precision(92.5%vs.86.0%;P=0.018),and F1 metric(94.2%vs.86.4%;P=0.007).Conclusions:THCaDxNLP achieved a high AUROC for the identification of thyroid cancer, and improved the accuracy, sensitivity, and precision of thyroid ultrasound radiologists. This warrants further investigation of THCaDxNLP in prospective clinical trials. | Qiang Zhang Sheng Zhang Jianxin Li Yi Pan Jing Zhao Yixing Feng Yanhui Zhao Xiaoqing Wang Zhiming Zheng Xiangming Yang Lixia Liu Chunxin Qin Ke Zhao Xiaonan Liu Caixia Li Liuyang Zhang Chunrui Yang Na Zhuo Hong Zhang Jie Liu Jinglei Gao Xiaoling Di Fanbo Meng Wei Ji Meng Yang Xiaojie Xin Xi Wei Rui Jin Lun Zhang Xudong Wang Fengju Song Xiangqian Zheng Ming Gao Kexin Chen Xiangchun Li | 2022 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2022,19,5: | 0
Micro/nano needles for advanced drug delivery显示文摘Along with the boost of drugs' exploitation, drug delivery has been a common concern among researchers and patients. As an emerging strategy, the micro-and nano-needle(MNN) is a single or an array of micro/nanoneedles,and promises to be a robust technology for efficient, noninvasive and convenient drug delivery. Compared with the conventional injection, MNN can pierce the bio-membranes to transfer cargos without any damage of tissue or nerves. And regarding the topical drug release, MNN is more efficient than oral administration and topical cream.More specifically, microneedle, a powerful technique, has been widely applied in different diseases such as diabetes, anti-obesity and contraception through skin and ocular surface. Correspondingly, many novel microneedles and optimization methods have been developed recently to improve the drug delivery efficacy. Nanoneedle, much smaller than microneedle, can minimize the skin damages caused by the repeated use of microneedles.Nanoneedles with nanoscaled size are usually used to penetrate the cell membrane. And recently many stimulusaided methods like electrical and magnetic force have been invented to deepen penetration and improve transfer effects. The aim of this review is to introduce the recent advances of MNN-based drug delivery, including their types, application locations and diseases, optimization of delivery strategies and future development prospects. | Xiangchun Meng Zeyu Zhan Linlin Li | 2020 | Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2020,30,5: | 0
