| 1 | Effect of best management practice implementation on sediment and phosphorus load reductions at subwatershed and watershed scale using SWAT model显示文摘Identification of areas contributing disproportionately high amount of pollutants(i.e.,critical source areas(CSAs)) to streams is important to efficiently and effectively target best management practices(BMPs).Process-based models are commonly used to identify CSAs and evaluate the impact of alternative management practices on pollutant load reductions.The objective of this study was to use the Soil and Watershed Assessment Tool(SWAT) to identify CSAs at the subwatershed level and evaluate the impact of alternative BMPs on sediment and total phosphorus(TP) load reductions in the Pleasant Valley watershed(50 km^2) in South Central Wisconsin(USA).The Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency,percent bias,and coefficient of determination ranged from 0.58 to 0.71,-12.87 to 38.33,and 0.67 to 0.79,respectively,indicating that SWAT was able to predict stream flow,sediment and TP loadings at a monthly time-step with sufficient accuracy.Based on the SWAT simulation results,annual average(2006-2012) subwatershed yield for sediment and TP ranged from 0.06 to 3.14 tons ha^(-1) yr^(-1) and 0.04 to1.9 kg ha^(-1) yr^(-1),respectively.The croplands were the major source ofsediment and TP in this watershed(> 84%).Reduction in sediment and TP loading ranged from 66%to 99%at the subwatershed level after conversion of croplands to Conservation Reserve Program(CRP) grasslands in subwatersheds identified as CSAs.On the other hand,reduction in sediment and TP loading with implementation of no-till practices ranged from only 14%to 25%.At the watershed outlet,sediment and TP loading reduction was< 15%after conversion of croplands to CRP grasslands and implementation of no-till practices because only about 8%of the watershed area was targeted for BMPs and/or resuspension of sediment deposited on the stream bed masked the downstream improvements in water quality. | Jasmeet Lamba Anita M.Thompson K.G.Karthikeyan John C.Panuska Laura W.Good | 2016 | International Journal of Sediment Research2016,31,4: | 3 |
| 2 | Molecularly specific detection of bacterial lipoteichoic acid for diagnosis of prosthetic joint infection of the bone显示文摘Discriminating sterile inflammation from infection, especially in cases of aseptic loosening versus an actual prosthetic joint infection, is challenging and has significant treatment implications. Our goal was to evaluate a novel human monoclonal antibody(mAb) probe directed against the Gram-positive bacterial surface molecule lipoteichoic acid(LTA). Specificity and affinity were assessed in vitro. We then radiolabeled the anti-LTA mAb and evaluated its effectiveness as a diagnostic imaging tool for detecting infection via immuno PET imaging in an in vivo mouse model of prosthetic joint infection(PJI). In vitro and ex vivo binding of the anti-LTA mAb to pathogenic bacteria was measured with Octet, ELISA, and flow cytometry. The in vivo PJI mouse model was assessed using traditional imaging modalities, including positron emission tomography(PET) with [^(18)F]FDG and [^(18)F]Na F as well as X-ray computed tomography(CT), before being evaluated with the zirconium-89-labeled antibody specific for LTA([^(89)Zr]SAC55).The anti-LTA mAb exhibited specific binding in vitro to LTA-expressing bacteria. Results from imaging showed that our model could reliably simulate infection at the surgical site by bioluminescent imaging, conventional PET tracer imaging, and bone morphological changes by CT. One day following injection of both the radiolabeled anti-LTA and isotype control antibodies, the anti-LTA antibody demonstrated significantly greater(P < 0.05) uptake at S. aureus-infected prosthesis sites over either the same antibody at sterile prosthesis sites or of control non-specific antibody at infected prosthesis sites. Taken together, the radiolabeled anti-LTA mAb, [^(89)Zr]SAC55, may serve as a valuable diagnostic molecular imaging probe to help distinguish between sterile inflammation and infection in the setting of PJI. | 13 | A lateral ankle sprain during a lateral backward step in badminton:A case report of a televised injury incident显示文摘Background:This study presents a kinematic analysis of an acute lateral ankle sprain incurred during a televised badminton match.The kinematics of this injury were compared to those of 19 previously reported cases in the published literature.Methods:Four camera views of an acute lateral ankle sprain incurred during a televised badminton match were synchronized and rendered in3-dimensional animation software.A badminton court with known dimensions was built in a virtual environment,and a skeletal model scaled to the inj ured athlete’s height was used for skeletal matching.The ankle joint angle and angular velocity profiles of this acute injury were compared to the summarized findings from 19 previously reported cases in the published literature.Results:At foot strike,the ankle joint was 2° everted,33° plantarflexed,and 18° internally rotated.Maximum inversion of 114° and internal rotation of 69° was achieved at 0.24 s and 0.20 s after foot strike,respectively.After the foot strike,the ankle joint moved from an initial position of plantarflexion to dorsiflexion-from 33° plantarflexion to 53° dorsiflexion(range=86°).Maximum inversion,dorsiflexion,and internal rotation angular velocity were 1262°/s,961°/s,and 677°/s,respectively,at 0.12 s after foot strike.Conclusion:A forefoot landing posture with a plantarflexed and internally rotated ankle joint configuration could incite an acute lateral ankle sprain injury in badminton.Prevention of lateral ankle sprains in badminton should focus on the control and stability of the ankle joint angle during forefoot landings,especially when the athletes perform a combined lateral and backward step. | Daniel T.P.Fong Kam-Ming Mok Isobel M.Thompson Yuehang Wang Wei Shan Mark A.King | 2023 | Journal of Sport and Health Science2023,12,1: | 0 |
