6Late Cretaceous biota and the Cretaceous-Paleogene(K--Pg)Boundary in Jiayin of Heilongjiang,China显示文摘An international cooperative study of the Late Cretaceous biota and non-marine strata including the Cretaceous-Paleogene(K--Pg) boundary in Jiayin near the Heilongjiang River,China during 2002-2010,is summarized in this paper. The strata includes the Upper Cretaceous Yong'ancun-,Taipinglinchang-,Yuliang-zi-,and Furao formations,and the Paleocence Wuyun Formation consisting of Baoshantou Member and a Coalbearing Member. Seven palynological assemblages from Santonian to Paleocene are recognized,which is used for definition of the K--Pg boundary. Through the palynological analysis of three drilled boreholes (XHY-2005,2006,2008) in Xiaoheyan of western Jiayin,the K--Pg boundary is defined within 20. 00-20. 05 m in the borehole XHY-2006 (as a standard boundary) which is just between the top of Furao Formation (late Maasterichtian) and the base of Baishantou Member (early Danian) . These new research results are supported by paleo- magnetic,geochemical and other analyses,also. On the other hand,the presence of eight taxa of Maasterichtian dinosaurs (mostly hadrosaurids) have been recognized by the authors; and two mega-plant assemblages from the Yong'ancun Fm (Santonian) to Taipinglinchang Fm (Campanian) are confirmed. These research a-chievements indicate that the Upper Cretaceous-Paleocene in Jiayin can be well correlated to the strata in the neighboring Zeya-Bureja basin,Russia. The K--Pg boundary definited in Jiayin is the first well documented non-marine K--Pg boundary in China. 9Pioneering function of Isl1 in the epigenetic control of cardiomyocyte cell fate显示文摘Generation of widely differing and specialized cell types from a single totipotent zygote involves large-scale transcriptional changes and chromatin reorganization. Pioneer transcription factors play key roles in programming the epigenome and facilitating recruitment of additional regulatory factors during successive cell lineage specification and differentiation steps. Here we show that Isl1 acts as a pioneer factor driving cardiomyocyte lineage commitment by shaping the chromatin landscape of cardiac progenitor cells. Using an Isl1 hypomorphic mouse line which shows congenital heart defects, genome-wide profiling of Isl1 binding together with RNA- and ATAC-sequencing of cardiac progenitor cells and their derivatives, we uncover a regulatory network downstream of Isl1 that orchestrates cardiogenesis. Mechanistically, we show that Isl1 binds to compacted chromatin and works in concert with the Brg1-Baf60c-based SWI/SNF complex to promote permissive cardiac lineage-specific alterations in the chromatin landscape not only of genes with critical functions in cardiac progenitor cells, but also of cardiomyocyte structural genes that are highly expressed when Isl1 itself is no longer present. 10Discovery of the Jiawengmen Stromatolite Assemblage in the Southern Belt of Eastern Kunlun, NW China and Its Significance显示文摘This paper reports a newly discovered Late Mesoproterozoic–Early Neoproterozoic stromatolite assemblage, named here the “Jiawengmen stromatolite assemblage”, represented by a Conophyton-Baicalia association in the Jiawenmen area in the southern belt of the Eastern Kunlun. This stromatolite assemblage is dominated by large-scale conical stromatolites and related elements, i.e., Conophyton garganicus var. inkeni, C. cf. ressoti Menchikov, Jacutophyton cf., Conicodomenia f., which commonly co-exist with elements of the group of Baicalia. This assemblage can be correlated with that of the middle Jixian-middle Qingbaikou System in North and Northwest China, but is different from that in South China. Correlation can also be made with that in the upper horizon of the Middle Riphean-lower horizon of the Upper Riphean in the South Ural Mountains and Siberia of Russia, in North Africa, and in the Alaskan Peninsula of North America. These facts suggest that the Jiawengmen stromatolite assemblage probably colonized during 1300–850 Ma ago. Accordingly, the stromatolite-bearing carbonate rocks are then proposed to correspond to the middle Jixian System-middle Qingbaikou System or the upper Middle Riphean-lower Upper Riphean. Our stromatolite data further suggest that a Precambrian microblock, named the Xialawen microblock here, occurred in the southern belt of Eastern Kunlun, the western part of the Maqên microblock. Similar stromatolite assemblages in the Maqên microblock and those blocks that occurred in North China, Siberia and North Africa point to similar paleogeographic and paleoenvironmental conditions. These microblock and blocks were probably located at low latitudes and on the continental margins of the Rodinian supercontinent, where warm epicontinental seas were favorable to widespread colonization of stromatolites during the Late Mesoproterozoic-Early Neoproterozoic. However, these stromatolite assemblages are quite different from those of the South China block, which is suggestive of different paleogeographic contexts, and probably also of a different tectonic affinity.BIAN Qiantao ZHU Shixing I. 14Hexagonal boron nitride nanosheet for effective ambient N2 fixation to NH3显示文摘Industrial production of NH3 from N2 and H2 significantly relies on Haber-Bosch process,which suffers from high energy consume and CO2 emission.As a sustainable and environmentally-benign alternative process,electrochemical artificial N2 fixation at ambient conditions,however,is highly required efficient electrocatalysts.In this study,we demonstrate that hexagonal boron nitride nanosheet (h-BNNS) is able to electrochemically catalyze N2 to NH3.In acidic solution,h-BNNS catalyst attains a high NH3 formation rate of 22.4 μg·h-1·mg-1cat.and a high Faradic efficiency of 4.7% at-0.75 V vs.reversible hydrogen electrode,with excellent stability and durability.Density functional theory calculations reveal that unsaturated boron at the edge site can activate inert N2 molecule and significantly reduce the energy barrier for NH3 fonmation.Ya Zhang Huitong Du Yongjun Ma Lei Ji Haoran Guo Ziqi Tian Hongyu Chen Hong Huang Guanwei Cui Abdullah M. 16Genesis of the Bianjiadayuan Pb-Zn polymetallic deposit, Inner Mongolia, China:Constraints from in-situ sulfur isotope and trace element geochemistry of pyrite显示文摘The Southern Great Xing’an Range (SGXR) which forms part of the eastern segment of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) is known as one of the most important Cu-Mo-Pb-Zn-Ag-Au metallogenic belts in China,hosting a number of porphyry Mo (Cu),skarn Fe (Sn),epithermal Au-Ag,and hydrothermal veintype Ag-Pb-Zn ore deposits.Here we investigate the Bianjiadayuan hydrothermal vein-type Ag-Pb-Zn ore deposit in the southern part of the SGXR.Porphyry Sn ±Cu ± Mo mineralization is also developed to the west of the Ag-Pb-Zn veins in the ore field.We identify a five-stage mineralization process based on field and petrologic studies including (i) the early porphyry mineralization stage,(ii) main porphyry mineralization stage,(iii) transition mineralization stage,(iv) vein-type mineralization stage and (v) late mineralization stage.Pyrite is the predominant sulfide mineral in all stages except in the late mineralization stage,and we identify corresponding four types of pyrites: Py1 is medium-grained subhedral to euhedral occurring in the early barren quartz vein;Py2 is medium- to fine-grained euhedral pyrite mainly coexisting with molybdenite,chalcopyrite,minor sphalerite and galena;Py3 is fine-grained,subhedral to irregular pyrite and displays cataclastic textures with micro-fractures;Py4 occurs as euhedral microcrystals and forms irregularly shaped aggregate with sphalerite and galena.LA-ICP-MS trace element analyses of pyrite show that Cu,Pb,Zn,Ag,Sn,Cd and Sb are partitioned into pyrite as structurally bound metals or mineral micro/nano-inclusions,whereas Co,Ni,As and Se enter the lattice via isomorphism in all types of pyrite.The Cu,Zn,Ag,Cd concentrations gradually increase from Py1 to Py4,which we correlate with cooling and mixing of ore-forming fluid with meteoric water.Py2 contains the highest contents of Co,Ni,Se,Te and Bi,suggesting high temperature conditions for the porphyry mineralization stage.Ratios of Co/Ni (0.03-10.79,average 2.13) and sulphur isotope composition of sulfide indicate typical hydrothermal origin for pyrites.The δ^34SCDT values of Py1 (0.42‰-1.61‰,average 1.16‰),Py2 (-1.23‰ to 0.82‰,average 0.35‰),Py3 (-0.36‰ to 2.47‰,average 0.97‰),Py4 (2.51‰-3.72‰,average 3.06‰),and other sulfides are consistent with those of typical porphyry deposit (-5‰ to 5‰),indicating that the Pb-Zn polymetallic mineralization in the Bianjiadayuan deposit is genetically linked to the Yanshanian (JurassiceCretaceous) magmatic-hydrothermal events.Variations of d34S values are ascribed to the changes in physical and chemical conditions during the evolution and migration of the ore-forming fluid.We propose that the high Sn content of pyrite in the Bianjiadayuan hydrothermal vein-type PbeZn polymetallic deposit can be used as a possible pathfinder to prospect for Sn mineralization in the surrounding area or deeper level of the ore field in this region.Kai-Rui Song Li Tang Shou-Ting Zhang M. 19Effect of rifampicin pre-and post-treatment on rotenone-induced dopaminergic neuronal apoptosis and alpha-synuclein expression显示文摘BACKGROUND: Rifampicin inhibits the formation of α-synuclein multimer and protects against 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyritine (MPTP)-induced PC12 cell apoptosis.OBJECTIVE: To compare the effect of rifampicin pre-and post-treatment on tyrosine hydroxylase and α-synuclein expression in substantia nigra pars compacta in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease.DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING: A randomized,controlled experiment was performed at the Experimental Animal Center of Sun Yat-sen University North Campus (China) from November 2006 to October 2008.MATERIALS: Rifampicin was purchased from MD,USA;rotenone was purchased from Sigma,USA;mouse anti-rat α-synuclein monoclonal antibody was purchased from B&D,USA;and rabbit anti-rat tyrosine hydroxylase monoclonal antibody was purchased from Chemicon,USA.METHODS: A total of 72 male,Sprague Dawley rats,aged 8 weeks,were randomly assigned to 5 groups: blank control (n = 12),rifampicin (n = 12),rotenone (n = 16),rifampicin pre-treatment (n = 16),and rifampicin post-treatment (n = 16).Parkinson’s disease model rats were established via a subcutaneous injection of rotenone (1.5 mg/kg per day) in the three treatment groups,once a day for 3 successive weeks.Rifampicin (30 mg/kg per day) was intragastrically administered in the rifampicin pre-treatment group 3 days prior to rotenone induction and in the rifampicin post-treatment group 7 days after rotenone induction.Rats were treated with a subcutaneous injection of 1 mL/kg per day sunflower oil in the blank control group and an intragastric injection of 30 mg/kg per day rifampicin in the rifampicin group,once a day for 3 successive weeks in total.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Prior to treatment and in the end of the 3rd week after treatment,the rats were evaluated using the modified neurological severity score.The substantia nigra from the rats was extracted for hematoxylin-eosin staining.Western blot analysis was performed to determine tyrosine hydroxylase and α-synuclein expression.RESULTS: Hematoxylin-eosin staining revealed a significant reduction in the number of substantia nigral neurons in the rotenone group,in addition to neurodegradation,hypopigmentation,and pyknosis.In the rifampicin pre-treatment and post-treatment groups,the number of dopaminergic neurons was significantly increased compared with the rotenone group (P < 0.01),with slight neuronal damage.Compared with the rotenone group,substantia nigral tyrosine hydroxylase expres-sion was significantly increased in the rifampicin pre-treatment and post-treatment groups (P < 0.01),but α-synuclein expression and modified neurological severity scores were significantly decreased (P < 0.01).In addition,the effect of rifampicin in the pre-treatment group was superior to the post-treatment group.There was no significant difference in tyrosine hydroxylase and α-synuclein expression,or in the modified neurological severity scores,between the blank control and rifampicin groups (P > 0.05).CONCLUSION: Rifampicin significantly attenuated neuropathological and behavioral motor deficits induced by rotenone.Moreover,rifampicin enhanced tyrosine hydroxylase expression,but inhibited α-synuclein expression.The effect of rifampicin pre-treatment was superior to rifampicin post-treatment.Yuanlin Sun Guohua Zhang Jie Xu Shiwen Chen Enxiang Tao Changqing Xu M. 20Laser Repair of Steam Turbine Blades(Invited Paper)显示文摘Reliable and efficient power generation is a major global issue due to both political and environmental concerns.Nevertheless many critical components,particularly the blades of the low pressure(LP) side of power generating steam turbines,are subjected to failure due to severe erosion at the leading edges.Since taking machines off-line for maintenance and removal of damaged blade for repair is extremely expensive,increasing the service life of these critical components can offer significant economic and political benefits.Conventional techniques to increase service life include brazing of an erosion shield at the leading edge of the turbine blades,open arc hardfacing,and cladding with erosion resistant materials using gas tungsten,manual metal or plasma transferred arc welding.We have been investigating for the past eight years the potential of laser cladding to deposit a high quality and erosion resistant protection shield on the leading edge of LP blades.Laser cladding offers unique advantages over the conventional techniques.The project to-date has demonstrated the feasibility of in-situ repair of turbine blades in trials conducted at a power station using a fibre delivered Laserline diode laser and a robot.A company(Hardwear Pty.Ltd.) has been established to commercialise the technology and has delivered two commercial contracts.M.
