2Breaches of the Baige Barrier Lake: Emergency response and dam breach flood显示文摘This paper documents the emergency response to the breaches of the Baige Barrier Lake. The lake was successively formed by landslides that occurred on October 10 and November 3, 2018 at the provincial border between Sichuan and Tibet in China. The barrier lake created by the '10.10' landslide breached on October 12 and triggered a flood with a peak discharge around 10000 m^3/s. The residual landslide barrier was enhanced by a second landslide on November 3, resulting in a higher barrier with larger flood potential. An overflow channel was excavated in the crest of the barrier to prompt the breach to be triggered at a lower water level. The second breach happened on November 12 with a measured peak discharge of 31000 m^3/s. Nearly 75000 people were evacuated before the two breaches. In order to prevent the downstream dams from possible over-topping, nearly 3.27×10~8 m^3 of the stored volume was released from the Liyuan reservoir 688 km downstream of Baige Barrier Lake. This paper presents the measured hydrographs and the back-analysis results for the '11.03' barrier lake. It is shown that the modern models of dam breach hydraulics can reasonably reproduce the barrier breach hydrographs;however, further studies are needed to define the key parameters which highly influence the calculated results. 4Effect of interaction of refractories with Ni-based superalloy on inclusions during vacuum induction melting显示文摘This study documents laboratory-scale observation of the interactions between the Ni-based superalloy FGH4096 and refractories.Three different crucibles were tested—MgO,Al2O3,and MgO–spinel.We studied the variations in the compositions of the inclusions and the alloy–crucible interface with the reaction time using scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Xray diffraction.The results showed that the MgO and MgO–spinel crucibles form MgO-containing inclusions(Al–Mg oxides and Al–Mg–Ti oxides),whereas the inclusions formed when using the Al2O3 crucible are Al2O3 and Al–Ti oxides.We observed a new MgAl2O4 phase at the inner wall of the MgO crucible,with the alloy melted in the MgO crucible exhibiting fewer inclusions.No new phase occurred at the inner wall of the Al2O3 crucible.We discuss the mechanism of interaction between the refractories and the Ni-based superalloy.Physical erosion was found to predominate in the Al2O3 crucible,whereas dissolution and chemical reactions dominated in the MgO crucible.No reaction was observed between three crucibles and the Ti of the melt although the Ti content(3.8wt%)was higher than that of Al(2.1wt%).Xiao-yong Gao Lin Zhang Xuan-hui Qu Xiao-wei Chen Yi-feng Luan 2020International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2020,27,11:7
5Species Exclusion Between an Invasive and an Indigenous Whitefly on Host Plants with Differential Levels of Suitability显示文摘The whitefly Bemisia tabaci has risen to international prominence since the 1980s due to the rapid spread around the globe by the two species B and Q within this species complex.The invasion of B has often been associated with the displacement of indigenous whiteflies.As the genetic structure of B.tabaci is diverse,more case studies of the competitive relationships between B and indigenous species of the whitefly species complex will help to understand further the mechanisms underlying the invasion of B.We examined the competitive interactions between B and ZHJ2,a widely distributed indigenous whitefly in Asia,on host plants with differential levels of suitability to the two species in the laboratory,and also tested the effect of insecticide application on the competitive relationships.Three species of plants were tested including cotton,a plant showing similar levels of suitability to both species,squash,a plant showing higher suitability to B than to ZHJ2,and kidney bean,a plant showing higher suitability to ZHJ2 than to B.In the case of no insecticide application,B displaced ZHJ2 on cotton,squash,and kidney bean by the 6th,3rd and 10th generation,respectively.With the application of imidacloprid,the displacement of ZHJ2 by B on cotton occurred by the 5th generation.As the displacement progressed,the proportion of B females increased,and the proportion of ZHJ2 females decreased on cotton and squash.In contrast,on kidney bean the proportion of B females remained unchanged while that of ZHJ2 increased.These results show the strong capacity of the invasive B to displace ZHJ2,and indicate that host plants with differential levels of suitability to the two species may affect the speed but not the trend of displacement and insecticide application may accelerate the process of displacement.LUAN Jun-bo XU Jing LIN Ke-ke Myron P Zalucki LIU Shu-sheng 2012Journal of Integrative Agriculture2012,11,2:6
6The Changing Trends of HIV/AIDS in An Ethnic Minority Region of China: Modeling the Epidemic in Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province显示文摘Objective This study was to investigate the HIV current situation in Liangshan prefecture, in order to predict prevalence and transmission trends. Methods Region-specific population, behavior, serosurveillence, and policy/program data (from 1995 to 2010) were gathered from various local and national organizations and applied to the Asian Epidemic Model (AEM) and used to derive estimates of future HIV prevalence, epidemic trends, and outcomes of intervention strategies. Results The AEM projections for 2020 included increased number of people living with HIV (PLHIV; to 136 617), increased HIV prevalence (2.51%), and 8037 deaths from acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in this region. However, the overall HIV incidence rate (per 10 000) was projected to decline from 27 in 2015 to 22 in 2020, largely due to a predicted decrease in HIV infection rate (per 10 000) from 658 in 2013 to 621 in 2020 among intravenous drug users. In contrast, the cases of HIV infection per 10 000 was projected to increase from 420 in 2010 to 503 in 2020 among men who have sex with men, and from 8 in 2010 to 15 in 2020 among the general population. The predominant risk factor for HIV transmission over the next decade in Liangshan was casual sex. Community-based outreach strategies to reduce injected drug use and casual sex, and to promote condom use, were predicted as effective interventions to decrease HIV transmission. 7Developing controllable hypermutable Clostridium cells through manipulating its methyl-directed mismatch repair system显示文摘Development of controllable hypermutable cells can greatly benefit understanding and harnessing microbial evolution.However,there have not been any similar sys-tems developed for Clostridium,an important bacterial genus.Here we report a novel two-step strategy for de-veloping controllable hypermutable cells of Clostridium acetobutylicum,an important and representative indus-trial strain.Firstly,the mutS/L operon essential for methyl-directed mismatch repair(MMR)activity was inactivated from the genome of C.acetobutylicum to generate hy-permutable cells with over 250-fold increased mutation rates.Secondly,a proofreading control system carrying an inducibly expressed mutS/L operon was constructed.The hypermutable cells and the proofreading control system were integrated to form a controllable hypermut-able system SMBMutC,of which the mutation rates can be regulated by the concentration of anhydrotetracycline(aTc).Duplication of the miniPthl-tetR module of the proof-reading control system further signifi cantly expanded the regulatory space of the mutation rates,demonstrating hypermutable Clostridium cells with controllable mutation rates are generated.The developed C.acetobutylicum strain SMBMutC2 showed higher survival capacities than the control strain facing butanol-stress,indicating greatly increased evolvability and adaptability of the controllable hypermutable cells under environmental challenges.Guodong Luan Zhen Cai Fuyu Gong Hongjun Dong Zhao Lin Yanping Zhang Yin Li 2013Protein & Cell2013,4,11:4
8Recent advances in ethanol gas sensors based on metal oxide semiconductor heterojunctions显示文摘Metal oxide semiconductor heterojunctions(MOSHs)can enhance the performance of ethanol gas sen-sors substantially.Ethanol gas sensors based on MOSHs are cost-effective and have excellent sensing response,good selectivity,fast response and recovery,long-term stability or repeatability,a low operating temperature,a facile fabrica-tion process,and versatile applications.This paper reviews the recent advances in gas sensors that are based on MOSHs and the advantages of using them to detect ethanol gas.According to the literature,compared with ethanol gas sen-sors that use single-component sensing materials,the MOSHs exhibit superior performance due to the synergy between the different components,which can amplify the reception and transduction components of the sensor signals.To the best of our knowledge,heterojunctions can be grouped into four main categories as metal oxide/metal oxide,metal oxide/metal sulfide,metal oxide/noble metal,and metal oxide/other materials,including rare-earth metals,g-C_(3)N_(4),and graphene,heterojunctions.The future trends and challenges that would be faced in the development of ethanol gas sensors based on MOSHs are discussed in detail.Finally,critical ideas and thinking regarding the future progress of MOSH-based gas sensors are presented.Ling-Yun Gai Run-Ping Lai Xian-Hui Dong Xing Wu Qiao-Tong Luan Jue Wang Hao-Feng Lin Wen-Hao Ding Guang-Lei Wu Wan-Feng Xie 2022Rare Metals2022,41,6:4
9Combined detection and subclass characteristics analysis of CTCs and CTECs by SE-iFISH in ovarian cancer显示文摘Objective:Hematogenous metastasis is essential for the progression of ovarian cancer(OC),and circulating tumor cells(CTCs)are part of the metastatic cascade.However,the detection rate of CTC is low due to the use of less sensitive detection methods.Therefore,this study aimed to detect CTCs and circulating tumorigenic endothelial cells(CTECs)in patients with OC using subtraction enrichment and immunostaining and fluorescence in situ hybridization(SE-iFISH).Methods:We enrolled a total of 56 subjects,including 20 OC patients and 36 ovarian benign tumor patients.CTCs and CTECs were captured by subtraction enrichment(SE)and counted and classified according to immunofluorescence staining of tumor markers(TMs)carbohydrate antigen 125(CA125)and human epididymis protein 4(HE4)combined with fluorescence in situ hybridization(iFISH)of chromosome 8(Chr8)aneuploidy.The diagnostic value and subtype characteristics of CTCs and CTECs were investigated.Results:The detection rate of CTCs by SE-iFISH was high.Compared with CA125 and HE4,Chr8 aneuploidy was the major identification feature of CTC.CTC counts in OC were statistically higher than those in benign groups.CTC and CTEC with≥pentaploidy were detected in both groups,illustrating the poor diagnostic value of CTC or CTEC.Distributions of triploid and tetraploid CTC subtypes were significantly different,and combined detection of triploid and tetraploid CTCs showed the best diagnostic value.In contrast,the distribution of CTECs in the OC and benign groups had no statistically significant difference.Small CTCs accounted for over 1/3 of the total CTC count.We also found that small CTCs and CTECs primarily comprised triploid cells,while large CTCs and CTECs mainly comprised pentaploidy and beyond.Conclusions:The application of SE-iFISH offered a more comprehensive understanding of heterogeneous CTCs and CTECs in OC.Analysis of subclass characteristics of the CTCs and CTECs according to Chr8 aneuploidy and cell size may broaden their potential clinical utility and deepen mechanistic studies in OC.Hongyan Cheng Shang Wang Wenqing Luan Xue Ye Sha Dou Zhijian Tang Honglan Zhu Peter Ping Lin Yi Li Heng Cui Xiaohong Chang 2021Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2021,33,2:3

11Preparation and Properties of Smart Thermal Control and Radiation Protection Materials for Multi-functional Structure of Small Spacecraft显示文摘Considering the unique properties of small spacecraft,such as light weight,low power-consumption and high heat flux density,a new kind of lightweight boron carbide(B 4 C) radiation-protection coating material was proposed.New techniques for preparing LSMO thermal control coating and B 4 C radiation-protection coating were developed.The sample piece of multi-functional structure was manufactured by using the proposed materials,and a series of performance tests,such as thermal control and radiation-protection behaviors were evaluated.Test results show that:the emissivity of the multi-functional structure varies from 0.42 to 0.86 at 240 K to 353 K and the phase transition temperature is about 260 K.The electron radiation-protection ability of the multi-functional structure is 3.3 times better than that of Al material.The performance index of this multi-functional structure can meet the requirements for space application in on-board electronic equipment.shijie Zhang Xibin Cao Yingqiang Luan Xinxin Ma Xiaohui Lin Xianren Kong 2011Journal of Materials Science & Technology2011,27,10:3

14Identification of Risk Pathways and Functional Modules for Coronary Artery Disease Based on Genome-wide SNP Data显示文摘Coronary artery disease(CAD) is a complex human disease, involving multiple genes and their nonlinear interactions, which often act in a modular fashion. Genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) profiling provides an effective technique to unravel these underlying genetic interplays or their functional involvements for CAD. This study aimed to identify the susceptible pathways and modules for CAD based on SNP omics. First, the Wellcome Trust Case Control Consortium(WTCCC) SNP datasets of CAD and control samples were used to assess the jointeffect of multiple genetic variants at the pathway level, using logistic kernel machine regression model. Then, an expanded genetic network was constructed by integrating statistical gene–gene interactions involved in these susceptible pathways with their protein–protein interaction(PPI)knowledge. Finally, risk functional modules were identified by decomposition of the network. Of 276 KEGG pathways analyzed, 6 pathways were found to have a significant effect on CAD. Other than glycerolipid metabolism, glycosaminoglycan biosynthesis, and cardiac muscle contraction pathways, three pathways related to other diseases were also revealed, including Alzheimer's disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and Huntington's disease. A genetic epistatic network of 95 genes was further constructed using the abovementioned integrative approach. 15Design and Synthesis of Transparent Poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) and Relationship Between Its Phase Construction and Transparency显示文摘A series of transparent ABS(T-ABS) resins were prepared by emulsion in situ suspension polymerization. The influences of the particle size and the content of rubber particles on the transparency of T-ABS resins were studied by varying the size and content of rubber particles in a single model system(rubber particles with a uniform size). The optical properties of T-ABS resins were investigated in a mixed system of SBR/PB particles and a bi-modal particle system(rubber particles with two different sizes, 70 and 400 nm in diameter) of SBR particles. It was found that when the size of the smaller particles(70 nm) in the mixed system of SBR/PB particles was in the range of 50? ?00 nm in diameter, the T-ABS resins showed a better transparency. 16CAS-FGOALS Datasets for the Two Interglacial Epochs of the Holocene and the Last Interglacial in PMIP4显示文摘Two versions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Flexible Global Ocean-Atmosphere-Land System model(CASFGOALS),version f3-L and g3,are used to simulate the two interglacial epochs of the mid-Holocene and the Last Interglacial in phase 4 of the Paleoclimate Modelling Intercomparison Project(PMIP4),which aims to study the impact of changes in orbital parameters on the Earth’s climate.Following the PMIP4 experimental protocols,four simulations for the mid-Holocene and two simulations for the Last Interglacial have been completed,and all the data,including monthly and daily outputs for the atmospheric,oceanic,land and sea-ice components,have been released on the Earth System Grid Federation(ESGF)node.These datasets contribute to PMIP4 and CMIP6(phase 6 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project)by providing the variables necessary for the two interglacial periods.In this paper,the basic information of the CAS-FGOALS models and the protocols for the two interglacials are briefly described,and the datasets are validated using proxy records.Results suggest that the CAS-FGOALS models capture the large-scale changes in the climate system in response to changes in solar insolation during the interglacial epochs,including warming in mid-to-high latitudes,changes in the hydrological cycle,the seasonal variation in the extent of sea ice,and the damping of interannual variabilities in the tropical Pacific.Meanwhile,disagreements within and between the models and the proxy data are also presented.These datasets will help the modeling and the proxy data communities with a better understanding of model performance and biases in paleoclimate simulations.Weipeng ZHENG Yongqiang YU Yihua LUAN Shuwen ZHAO Bian HE Li DONG Mirong SONG Pengfei LIN and Hailong LIU 2020Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2020,37,10:2
17LNP-CpG ODN-adjuvanted varicella-zoster virus glycoprotein E induced comparable levels of immunity with Shingrix^(TM) in VZV-primed mice显示文摘Latent varicella-zoster virus(VZV)may be reactivated to cause herpes zoster,which affects one in three people during their lifetime.The currently available subunit vaccine Shingrix^(TM) is superior to the attenuated vaccine Zostavax®in terms of both safety and efficacy,but the supply of its key adjuvant component QS21 is limited.With ionizable lipid nanoparticles(LNPs)that were recently approved by the FDA for COVID-19 mRNA vaccines as carriers,and oligodeoxynucleotides containing CpG motifs(CpG ODNs)approved by the FDA for a subunit hepatitis B vaccine as immunostimulators,we developed a LNP vaccine encapsulating VZV-glycoprotein E(gE)and CpG ODN,and compared its immunogenicity with Shingrix^(TM) in C57BL/6J mice.The results showed that the LNP vaccine induced comparable levels of gE-specific IgG antibodies to Shingrix^(TM) as determined by enzymelinked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Most importantly,the LNP vaccine induced comparable levels of cellmediated immunity(CMI)that plays decisive roles in the efficacy of zoster vaccines to Shingrix^(TM) in a VZVprimed mouse model that was adopted for preclinical studies of Shingrix^(TM) .Number of IL-2 and IFN-γsecreting splenocytes and proportion of T helper 1(Th1)cytokine-expressing CD4^(+)T cells in LNP-CpG-adjuvanted VZV-gE vaccinated mice were similar to that of Shingrix^(TM) boosted mice.All of the components in this LNP vaccine can be artificially and economically synthesized in large quantities,indicating the potential of LNP-CpGadjuvanted VZV-gE as a more cost-effective zoster vaccine.Ning Luan Han Cao Yunfei Wang Kangyang Lin Cunbao Liu 2022Virologica Sinica2022,37,5:2
18Genetic diversity center of cultivated soybean(Glycine max) in China——New insight and evidence for the diversity center of Chinese cultivated soybean显示文摘Information on the center of genetic diversity of soybean(Glycine max) will be helpful not only for designing efficient strategies for breeding programs, but also for understanding the domestication and origin of this species. Here, we describe an analysis of genetic diversity based on simple-sequence repeat(SSR) variations within a core collection of 2 111 accessions of Chinese soybean landraces. Prior to the diversity assessment, the geographic origin of each accession was mapped. The map was then divided into grids each 2.5° in latitude and 5° in longitude. We found two regions that had higher number of alleles(NA) and greater polymorphic information content(PIC) values than the others. These regions are adjacently located within grid position of 30°–35°N×105°–110°E, which includes the valley of the middle and lower reaches of the Wei River, and the valley of the upper reaches of the Hanjiang River. It was also observed that in many regions, genetic diversity decreased with the increase in distance from the center. Another region, in northern Hebei Province(115°–120°E×40°–42.5°N), was observed having higher diversity than any surrounding regions, indicating that this is a sub-center of soybean diversity.
