| 1 | The acidic tumor microenvironment: a target for smart cancer nano-theranostics显示文摘The acidic tumor microenvironment(TME), which mainly results from the high glycolytic rate of tumor cells, has been characterized as a hallmark of solid tumors and found to be a pivotal factor participating in tumor progression. Recently, due to the increasing understanding of the acidic TME, it has been shown that the acidic TME could be utilized as a multifaceted target during the design of various pH-responsive nanoscale theranostic platforms for the precise diagnosis and effective treatment of cancers. In this article,we will give a focused overview on the latest progress in utilizing this characteristic acidic TME as the target of nano-theranostics to enable cancer-specific imaging and therapy. | 2 | Liposomes co-loaded with metformin and chlorin e6 modulate tumor hypoxia during enhanced photodynamic therapy显示文摘Though photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been widely used in the non-invasive destruction of solid tumors, the therapeutic efficacy of PDT is often limited by the hypoxic tumor environment. Herein, we report the innovative use of metformin, an oral hypoglycemic agent commonly used in the treatment of type II diabetes, to improve tumor oxygenation, and overcome tumor hypoxia-associated resistance to PDT. In our design, hydrophilic metformin and modified hydrophobic chlorin e6 (HCe6) are co-encapsulated within the inner cavity and outer membrane of liposomes, respectively. Due to the high uptake of liposome nanoparticles by tumors, and the sustained release of metformin, the intravenous administration of metformin (Met)-HCe6-Liposome nanoparticles greatly improves tumor oxygenation in several different tumor models, as revealed by in vivo photoacoustic imaging and ex vivo immunofluorescence staining. Systemic administration of Met-HCe6-Liposomes followed by in vivo PDT achieved significantly improved therapeutic effects compared to that of PDT without metformin. | 3 | Phosphorylated heat shock protein 27 is involved in enhanced heart tolerance to ischemia in short-term type 1 diabetic rats显示文摘Aim: To examine the tolerance of type 1 diabetic hearts to ischemia and reperfusion injury. Myocardial contents of 27-kDa and 70-kDa heat shock proteins (hsp) as well as phosphorylated hsp27 were also determined. Methods: Hearts from hyperglycemic rats 3 weeks after streptozocin injection and age-matched normal rats were subjected to ischemia and reperfusion in vitro. Cardiac function and electrocardiogram were recorded throughout experiments. Myocardial heat shock proteins were detected with Western blot. Results: Despite depressed systolic function at the baseline, diabetic hearts exhibited considerable enhancement in postischemic heart function, manifested by an increase in the maximal rate of left ventricular pressure rise and fall (post-ischemic dp/dtmax and dp/dtmin were 560±117 and -313±68 mmHg/s in control, n=7, 1249±57 and -1204±36 mmHg/s in diabetes, n= 10, P<0.01). Reperfusion ventricular fibrillation in the diabetic group were attenuated compared with controls (1.5±0.3 vs 7.2±2.1 min in control, P<0.01). The increased heart resistance to ischemia in diabetes was associated with hyperglycemia and accompanied by enhanced expression of myocardial phosphorylated hsp27 with normal aortic vessel relaxation. Cardioprotection was abrogated by metabolic correction with insulin and accompanied by phospho-hsp27 reduction. | 4 | Meta analysis of propranolol effects on gastrointestinal hemorrhage in cirrhotic patients显示文摘AIM: To assess the effects of propranolol as compared with placebo on gastrointestinal hemorrhage and total mortality in cirrhotic patients by using meta analysis of 20 published randomized clinical trials.METHODS: A meta analysis of published randomized clinical trials was designed. Published articles were selected for study based on a computerized MEDLINE and a manual search of the bibliographies of relevant articles. Data from 20 relevant studies fulfilling the inclusion criteria were retrieved by means of computerized and manual search.The reported data were extracted on the basis of the intention-to-treat principle, and treatment effects were measured as risk differences between propranolol and placebo. Pooled estimates were computed according to a random-effects model. We evaluated the pooled efficacy of propranolol on the risk of gastrointestinal hemorrhage and the total mortality.RESULTS: A total of 1 859 patients were included in 20trials, 931 in the propranolol groups and 928 as controls.Among the 652 patients with upper gastrointestinal tract hemorrhage, 261 patients were treated with propranolol,and 396 patients were treated with placebo or non-treated.Pooled risk differences of gastrointestinal hemorrhage were -18 % [95 % CI, -25 %, -10 %] in all trials, -11% [95 % CI,-21%, -1%] in primary prevention trials, and -25 %[95 %CI, -39 %, -10 %] in secondary prevention trials. A total of 440 patients died, 188 in propranolol groups and 252 in control groups. In this review, we summarize the recent advances of ink formation, typical scalable applications, and challenging perspectives of screen printing for emerging printed microelectronics. Firstly, we introduce the major mechanism of screen printing and the formation of different organic-and aqueous-based inks by various solvents and binders. | 7 | Optimization of passive solar design and integration of building integrated photovoltaic/thermal(BIPV/T)system in northern housing显示文摘In the Canadian north,the cost of space heating is very high due to the harsh weather,its remoteness,lack of transportation,and dependency on the high cost of fossil fuel imported from the South.Since the North has an abundance of solar energy,significant energy savings with some added construction cost in houses could be achieved by applying high-performance building envelopes and solar design strategies.The objective of this paper is to investigate the potential of both passive and active solar design strategies in improving the energy efficiency of northern housing.Firstly,a reference house representing a typical single-family home in the North is modeled using EnergyPlus,and the key passive design parameters are optimized to minimize life-cycle cost.Then,the air-based building integrated photovoltaic/thermal(BIPV/T)system is applied to the optimized house and integrated with HVAC systems.It is found that optimal passive solar design can reduce the heating energy demand by 42%with an incremental cost of 8%for Yellowknife and by 27%without incurring an incremental cost for Kuujjuaq.Integrating BIPV/T with HVAC systems can reduce the defrost time of heat recovery ventilator(HRV),extend the working hours and improve the COP of air source heat pump(ASHP).The reduction in the total energy consumption is in the range of 1,4%-3.0%by integrating HRV and 0.3%-0.6%by integrating ASHP due to the mis-match of solar availability and heating energy demand.To maximize the utilization of solar energy available,the optimal use of thermal energy recovered from BIPV/T system in northern housing requires further investigation. | Li Ma Hua Ge Lin Wang Liangzhu Wang | 2021 | Building Simulation2021,14,5: | 3 |

| 9 | CaCO3-Assisted Preparation of pH-Responsive Immune-Modulating Nanoparticles for Augmented Chemo-Immunotherapy显示文摘Due to the negative roles of tumor microenvironment(TME)in compromising therapeutic responses of various cancer therapies,it is expected that modulation of TME may be able to enhance the therapeutic responses during cancer treatment.Herein,we develop a concise strategy to prepare pH-responsive nanoparticles via the CaCO3-assisted double emulsion method,thereby enabling effective co-encapsulation of both doxorubicin(DOX),an immunogenic cell death(ICD)inducer,and alkylated NLG919(aNLG919),an inhibitor of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1(IDO1).The obtained DOX/aNLG919-loaded CaCO3 nanoparticles(DNCaNPs)are able to cause effective ICD of cancer cells and at the same time restrict the production of immunosuppressive kynurenine by inhibiting IDO1.Upon intravenous injection,such DNCaNPs show efficient tumor accumulation,improved tumor penetration of therapeutics and neutralization of acidic TME.As a result,those DNCaNPs can elicit effective anti-tumor immune responses featured in increased density of tumor-infiltrating CD8+cytotoxic T cells as well as depletion of immunosuppressive regulatory T cells(Tregs),thus effectively suppressing the growth of subcutaneous CT26 and orthotopic 4T1 tumors on the Balb/c mice through combined chemotherapy&immunotherapy.This study presents a compendious strategy for construction of pH-responsive nanoparticles,endowing significantly enhanced chemo-immunotherapy of cancer by overcoming the immunosuppressive TME. | Yujie Zhu Zhijuan Yang Ziliang Dong Yimou Gong Yu Hao Longlong Tian Xianzhu Yang Zhuang Liu Liangzhu Feng | 2021 | Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,2: | 3 |

| 17 | Low-temperature and high-voltage planar micro-supercapacitors based on anti-freezing hybrid gel electrolyte显示文摘Micro-supercapacitors(MSCs)are considered as highly competitive power sources for miniaturized electronics.However,narrow voltage window and poor anti-freezing properties of MSCs in conventional aqueous electrolytes lead to low energy density and limited environmental adaption.Herein,we report the construction of low-temperature and high-energy-density MSCs based on anti-freezing hybrid gel electrolytes(HGE)through introducing ethylene glycol(EG)additives into aqueous LiCl electrolyte.Since EG partially destroys hydrogen bond network among water molecules,the HGE exhibits maximum electrochemical stability window of 2.7 V and superior anti-freezing features with a glass transition temperature of-62.8℃.Further,the optimized MSCs using activated carbon microelectrodes possess impressive volumetric capacitance of 28.9 F cm^(-3)and energy density of 10.3 mWh cm^(-3)in the voltage of 1.6 V,2.6 times higher than MSCs tested in 1.2 V.Importantly,the MSCs display 68.3%capacitance retention even at-30℃ compared to the value at 25℃,and ultra-long cyclability with 85.7%of initial capacitance after 15,000 times,indicating extraordinary low-temperature performance.Besides,our devices offer favorable flexibility and modular integration.Therefore,this work provides a general strategy of realizing flexible,safe and anti-freezing microscale power sources,holding great potential towards subzero-temperature microelectronic applications. | Manning Chen Xiaoyu Shi Xiaolei Wang Hanqing Liu Sen Wang Caixia Meng Yu Liu Liangzhu Zhang Yuanyuan Zhu Zhong-Shuai Wu | 2022 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2022,31,9: | 1 |
